Kies is showing a newer Froyo update today than the one we got in November.
The official O2 UK Froyo was PDA: JP5, PHONE: JP3, CSC: JP3
The new Kies update is showing PDA: JP6, PHONE: JP3, CSC: JP3
Has anyone tried this yet, and what's changed? Is there anything to be gained from JP6 over JP5?
Just spotted this this morning. Upgraded and will report back later. I may be some time...
Can you let us know if this is 2.2.1? Ta!
It's not 2.2.1, the phone still shows 2.2 as the version. It does seem to have solved some lags I was experiencing in email and calendar applications. That's about it so far.
Just discovered the notification volume is now separate from call volume, which I thought was a 2.2.1 feature?

Nope, always been separate (well on all the 2.1 and 2.2 ROMS ive used).
Shame it isnt 2.2.1 (JPU based), its a really good ROM, bar the browser niggles...
OK. You can now enter alphanumeric postcodes in contacts, which I couldn't do before.
Any GPS improvement ?
I haven't noticed any difference in GPS but I never had a problem before.
Just noticed I now have HTML support in the email app, which I'm sure I never had before.

Don't know if anyone has reported this yet. Froyo is now available to O2 UK customers with branded handsets like me. Just upgraded from JM1 via Kies after months of waiting. So far so good.
Details:
PDA: I9000ADJP5
Phone: I9000ADJP3
CSC: I9000UJP3
great. can you check if you can put UK postcodes into the contracts address, and see if the Gallery sensor drains the battery. use *#*#4636#*#* to get into battery stats
When it came out on vodofone on monday, so many people had problems with kies it was un believable. Going by the vodafone forum we're talking 10's of 000's
And why does a company the size of samsung only have one server location for the whole world??
I wish all o2 customers good luck!

I just upgraded to this and it's great. I had previously used the reg hack to upgrade to JPO and suffered lag problems and found Exchange on the default email app to be unusable.
Now, on JP5 and there are no lags and the email app is working fine. GPS lock is faster too.

I am JPO as well, might give this a whirl, i need to make sure that the speedmod kernel works with this first.
JP3 for the phone and CSC, isnt that an older Froyo release?

I did the reg hack to put JPO onto my o2 branded handset. Is it really worth putting on the offical o2 rom on, is it really that different speed wise?
can you check your sensor battery usage after opening the gallery and see if it constantly uses the sensor even after the gallery has been closed for a while.
use *#*#4636#*#*

I thought i would just put it on to try it (no data or settings were wiped), i have just rooted it and i am gonna put the speedmod kernel on shortly, then i'll test it for a few days.
Looks like the sensor is constantly being used, opened it up to check history a few times and the time has gone up every time, even with gallery closed.
After initially running better JP5 has rapidly deteriorated, with lags and force closes, including system force close, which I've never seen before. Seriously thinking of reverting to JPO
I have disabled notifications and all lags and force closes have disappeared. Sad really but it dies appear to be the most problematic aspect of Android and has always been erratic. Previously Facebook and Twiiter
Finally it's out !! yaaa
but why I can't see the information of my old FW and the new one ?
I think Samsung's servers are Choking haha
I hope I can upgrade at midnight when no one is upgrading
I upgraded yesterday via Kies. Worked fine, no problems.
I'm finding the performance is good, no lag, no hangs etc There are new icons and new options such as turning off packet data which is very handy when you are in a location that has poor 3G signal.
Overall after a day I would say there is no drama but I'll have to wait a while to see if there is any real improvements.
BTW I've got a boggo standard handset that is O2 branded.
Cheers
Just done the O2 firmware update (can't do any other firmware flash due to 3 button combo not working) and all want well........[bold]BUT[/bold] the GPS no longer works properly.
While on 2.1, it was excellent, but now it's slow at getting locks and most of the time my position is way off.
Can't be a hardware issue because it was great on 2.1.
How do we fix this (not having the 3 button combo restricts me from a lot of other options)?

Just checked mine it does not allow UK postcodes the tag is "Zip Code" and only allows Numeric values and Yes the Gallary sensory is the higest of the barrery usage under history.
Like many after installing 2.2 I had to do s factory reset. I had speed issues and my email client would stop responding and force close after update.

download GPS Status & Toolbox from the market and run it.
See if it makes a difference
Been running O2 froyo since yesterday and its good. Battery is fine. Was lagging until I removed task killer, now ok. GPS is better but still not great. Overall thumbs up.
I have just upgraded via the reg patch from JPU. No issues other than the lock screen stops working after about half an hour. So when I press the button to switch the phone back on it goes bacl to the last screen with no lock screen
I have cleared cache in download mode and turned the phone on and off but again after half an hour I get the same issue the lock screen stops working
I have tried both with the normal slide and the pattern
Any ideas
Probably needs a factory reset - that sorts most errors like this kind.
I updated today via kies (reghack, XXJPU) and I don't have any problems... so maybe an application that make a problem?
The first time I flashed I changed the product code back from KOR to XEU. I think Kies caused this for some reason. Second time I flashed with odin (much more reliable!) and it's fine. However, the first time I experienced horrible battery drain. As for now, I'm keeping an eye on it.
I'm also missing the Pure Calendar Widget from the market unless it's been pulled. Tried all sorts to find that again but it's not there.
Overall, JPX is the slickest and best running firmware I've used on my SGS so far.
My only complaint is that my SGS really struggles with battery drain on XXJPX stock. JPU was very good (but was buggy).. Prefer JPX but without the battery drain.
I've cleared the battery stats etc, as well..
I had some problems with frozen accelerometer but after a Factory reset it worked again.
I flashed to JPX (from JPU) and I have this weird bug where my phone still thinks it's connected to the USB. has anybody else experienced this?
Also, my quadrant score isn't nearly as high as it used to be when I had JPU.
Sooooo, good morning....
Now I see that there is again a new firmware out... JPY... maybe they found a problem whit the battary drain....
greetings from croatia

So... Do you recommend upgrading on kies to 2.2.1
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
Hi Guys,
I've upgraded yesterday from XPU to XPX - all done with Odin - Kies doesn't recognize my phone despite of any recommended procedures. Stuff it don't need ballast.
I've have had some troubles with XPU: changing my country code from DV2 (Vodafone D2, Germany) to KOR - I had have to edit /efs/ndata.bin, battery drops to 98% just after removing phone from charger, instability with some apps ...
But now after some reboots without factory reset my phone and I are happy. Best firmware ever seen.
Cheers - and Seasons Greetings from merry old Germany ;-)
Chris
Yes definately although there is a new firmware out!!!

On the stock kernel?
Just got notification.
BMC JL2 avail via Kies. FYI
But that is kinda old news.
I9000M darkyV10.rc5.3 darkcore2.1 UGKC1 BMC
Seems unlikely to be JL2 since KC1 has been out for a while.
I think that was just a not updated web page you saw...
I got the same SMS from Bell. But I'm already in JVB.
My bad.. KC1 confirmed.

Yep, It's just KC1. Jeez, Bell is some slack notifying people whaaaa.... Doesn't surprise me tho that's for sure.

If you got the Update a couple months back, there is nothing new. Bell is just slack as hell notifying their customers that their is an update is all.
I re-installed Kies to see what that text was all about. And after installing was notified that I didn't download the latest version... right... ok, update, and...
Yeah, no new firmware.
By the way, I know GPS issues are all over the place, but anyone here go from working great with the last firmware to hardly usable with KC1?
bull$hit waste of time message from Bell, wasted time getting Kies updated to find out its nothing... damn.

It all depends on when you got the phone. I think it was oct 2010 where Samsung updated the gps inside the SGS to a properly functioning one. My gps is fine on KC1.
A friend of mine had problems after a month or so of owning his S2.
The phone would turn itself on when it was meant to be off, would launch the voice app all the time, home button would return the phone to the desktop clock screen.
The device went in for repair with O2 (in the UK). They sent it back saying it needed a software reflash.
Now since having the phone back for a few days th battery life is much much worse than before.
yesterday lasted approx 4 ish hours with normal use (wifi, bluetooth. gps all off... few calls, browsing, downloading a few apps).
Took off charge this morning at 8.30am at 11:30 it was on 64%.
Phone software details etc are:
kernal 2.6.35.7-i9100xwke1-cl181974
build is g bread xwke1
Can anyone shed any light on what could be the problem?
One problem. He has a mac, so is unable to access a PC to do any updates via KIES etc... so any info on ways around this would be good too.
KE1 is old and buggy, he should have something around KF2-KF4 depending what is available for your country.
In sweden over-the-air update started to work a few days ago, maybe it is the same in UK? Then just enter the settings->about menu and update from there.
O2 UK latest firmware just been updated on the Kies server to KF3 v 2.3.3

apparently it isnt compatible with the S2
how do you update the kies?
sorry im terrible with these things
think im still on the 1st one as dont recall updating it!
No indication of what it is, but it took quite a while to install. Does anyone have any information on this? I couldn't find anything at the Samsung USA site.
Got the update too. It mentions a new market available with the update.

Seems to have cured the wi-fi reconnection lag on my tab that came with the last firmware update.
Haven't seen any other differences yet.
OTA did not work for me. Updating with Kies, as I type.
I updated ota without issue. Also did not lose root, or at least apps that need root and super user still work the same. Seems smother but isn't that always the way. Hopefully browser will not crash like before, will see. Oh, and blazing fast, of course ;-)
installed, only thing I see different is market 3.4.4. This update did introduce the wifi reconnect problem that I have not had before this update. Sorry now I did it, will have to recoinoiter my position since the wifi bug is now included in this rom

Mate, it Can't be Truth! especially part with root remaining after flashing stock ROM.
Me too
Well, this update seems to have fixed the Wifi problems that came with the last update... It all seems quicker and tighter.
Sorry, I was wrong. After the tab has been asleep for awhile, Wifi has about a minute lag before kicking in. Same as before the update.

Did it just appear when you were connected to WiFi as an OTA update? Mine is still stuck on slow laggy 3.1 and have no idea how to get it to do a manual check for an OTA update?? I plugged it into Kies and it said it was up to date?

M

Mine is a US purchased P7510 - that's why I have been able to update it.
On the downside- the wi-fi reconnection lag has re-appeared after a couple of days. By that I mean - after the tab goes to sleep and is woken up by pressing the power button, it can take up to 30 seconds to reconnect to my wi-fi. If I go to settings and turn off wi-fi and then turn it back on again, it will reconnect in about 2 seconds. Weird ... but true ...
Stock Gallery performance seems a lot better to me.
Zooming large images is much faster and sharper.
btw. I didn't loose my root either
using galaxy tab 10.1 3g as a gt-p7500 phone voice call
I am using rooted galaxy tab 10.1 3g gt-p7500 with ICS ANDROID 4.
There is no phone voice call feature. How can I enable this
I noticed mild stuttering while flashvideoplayback. Was not there on KMN. Anyone else? Videoperformance decreases with every update ...

When I click on my market icon I get application not installed after this update. The icon looks different but doesn't launch anything.
Nevermind, it was just the icon for old market. Deleted then added the app shortcut again and it works.
Anything specific we should know regarding this update?
