SD Card can't be read by apps anymore. :( - Droid X General

So i couldn't get the update to the OS all night cause of the 3G outage. So in the morning i DL'd the Droid X Bootstrap app so that i could make a backup before doing the update. I was in my car waiting for it to warm up and figured why not run it now while i have time to kill. I hit the reboot recovery option, and the phone reboots, CRAP, i forgot i had to hit keys to put it into recovery. Oh well i think, no biggie.
Fast forward an hour later i get a call, it doesn't play my normal ringtone, instead plays a stock tone. Odd i think. I go to bed and wake up, my X can't access the SD card anymore. Well apps cant. I can view it in the settings > SD Card. See it's there and the space on it. Can unmount it and re mount it. I can even view the files through Root Explorer. However no other apps can see it. Gallery leaves it blank and if i try to access it it closes the app. Same thing with my media players.
What the hell did i do wrong? and how do i fix this?? I have rebooted 5 times now, pulled the SD card each time and put it back in. Still same issue. Can see it in the phone settings and Root Explorer, just nowhere else. Please help me.
edit: i have never made a back up before, so i have nothing to go back to. Like i said i can view it fine through Root explorer and open files and whatnot on it. But if i try to view the files from my gallery, or camera, or media players...i go nowhere they see nothing.

Try rebooting into recovery, mounts and storage, make sure it says unmount on the sdcard. I saw a droid do this recently

How do I do that? I downloaded the full clockwork recovery app. I say reboot into recovery. It reboots, the status bar gets 1/4 way full then the phone reboots again and loads like it normally should. I never get into clockwork.

Do it with the bootstrap, bootstrap recovery. Then reboot recovery . Also try reflashing clockwork

I thank you VERY much for your help. I got to the storage screen. My SD card only said Mount, so i clicked it to Unmount and rebooted. Still not working right though. I can get to music via the media player, but my playlists are still blank when i look at them, though the names to them are still there. And my gallery refuses to open at all now. Before i could still look at what was on the phones memory...now i get nothing.
THis is just frustrating as ****. Thank you for your help though. It is greatly appreciated. Any other ideas? Can i reflash the gallery app or something?
edit: screw it, just DL'd a new gallery app, will use that instead. It seems to work fine, no clue why the stock one is boinked though. And i guess i will just have to rebuild the playlists. Oh well. My fault for trying to do something without researching. Thank you again for your help.
Now to see if the camera can save to the SD card again or not

Your welcome, glad to help

Can't write to internal memory/uninstall anything

Hi all!
Quite the n00b at this forum, so bare with me. I've tried to search for a solution to my problem, but haven't been able to find any.
My problem started with me having several app crashes, even those native to the phone like the Market app. I guess it happened after I installed several apps, and also a couple of launchers (ADW and LauncherPro). I decided to uninstall several apps to see if I could get the system running without any more apps crashing when using them. What happened though was that the apps I uninstalled just appeared again after doing a reset of the phone... I've tried it several times, and can't seem to get rid of neither the apps nor the launchers.
After this I thought doing a hard reset might solve the issue, but no go. I got an errormsg in the reset, and when the phone started again, all of my data (contacts, sms and such) was deleted, but most apps, and those launchers, was still there.
Would have posted a picture of it, but since I'm "new", I'm not allowed. The msg was:
multicsc : can not acces to /system/csc/XEE/system/
I don't know if the error is related to the uninstalling problem at all though..
What to do?
Have you tried all ways of uninstalling?
Market/ File Manager/ Managing Applications / Edit Menu?
If not sounds like a factory reset may be in order :/ Or even worse you have to format your SD card as a lot of app data gets saved onto it.
I've tried the factory reset as I also wrote, perhaps I shouldn't have called it a "hard reset"
I guess I can try to format the SD card, perhaps the problem lies with the card. Seems strange though that I don't get an error when trying to uninstall the apps from the "Manage applications" menu..
How can i uninstall via File Manager?
Update: Formating SD card did nothing..
No one got any clue? I just got the phone a couple of days ago, and its quite frustrating not being able to use it properly.
Yet another update: Seems I can't delete _anything_ on the phones internal memory, it just pops up again after doing a restart of the phone. I've even connected it to my PC and deleted some files via explorer..
Maybe its time to install a new rom like Samset 1.9b
As it fully wipes and reinstalls the os. If you don't want to do that I recommend you get it repaired or replaced. I find that factory reset sometimes don't actually work but a new rom does.

Thanks alot for answering
I've considered it. But I'm not sure I want to break my warranty which I guess flashing it might do? And also, if thats the case, it would be real bad to flash it/void warranty, just to find out I need to get it repaired anyways. That would suck bigtime..
I can't for the life of me figure out what might be wrong, seeing as NOTHING stucks to the internal memory after a restart of the phone..
Noone that has got any clues on what to do?
New update:
I've tried updating FW to JM2, seemed to go fine. But after update/flashing, I see that I still got the same apps and desktop background and such lying about.. Nothing seems to have been deleted.. And now I also get app errors immediately after starting up the phone. Menus and such seem to work fine.

another update help thread :(

ok, have been unable to update to 4.1.57. Previously, rooted, webtop mod, deleted some att apps (weather and such, nothing crazy).
done so far. undid webtop app by copying 6 backup files to /system/apps. rebooted.
have usb connection set to none. debugging enabled.
i've even removed root! (superoneclick)
still i get the android exclamation point every time i try to update.
also, when i plug in an hdmi cable i no longer get ANY options, not for webtop OR media center
what else am i missing?!
Did you do any sort of Adeo/deodexing file system editing?

Just back up with titanium backup and flash back to a clean 1.26. The webtop mod might have left something behind even if you think you removed it.

i went to try and run the "restore missing apps +all system data" and it listed the "news and weather" apps i deleted along with
Dockprovider
mobile desktop
motorola dock service
all which i never deleted!
is this something i screwed up by not doing the webtop uninstall correctly?
also when i run the batch is says its finished almost instantly....except it didnt do anything! and when i find it in the list the "restore" option isnt there. i KNOW i backed them up too. it says 1 backup available but wont do it.
and no roms or deodoxing(dont even know what it means)
originally when i copied all those files into the system/apps folder it gave me the correct errors and i restarted by holding the power button. just like it says.
i recopied the files thinking maybe i did something wrong, nothing happened this time. i can locate the .apk files in the app folder. and they are all not installed. when i click it and select "install", it says "application not installed'
what am i missing?
also noticed platform lib client is uninstalled and wont install...dont know if related
now ive even tried using the webtopbackup files from the undo thread and putting those into the folder, but still they wont "install"
please help!!
I'm having the exact same problem. No luck yet. I think Im going to flash back to sbf.
I'm pretty certain it has to do with deleting apps from the system partition. Anyone know how to fix this? Reinstall apps?
Honestly, you should just save yourself the headache and SBF to 1.2.6, Then update to 1.5.7 from there. If you have anything important to back up, just do that first.
Ok ok. An I gibbs have to re install all my apps?

I remember something like if you use SBF, flash counter goes up and your warranty is voided, is this true?
I don't recall reading anything about that. The 1.2.6 flash is the official stock build that shipped with the AT&T version of the Atrix, so in the absolute worst case scenario, say you don't know anything about it. Ignorance is bliss after all. Also, since we do have the sbf as a recovery, warranty would only be necessary if something in the hardware were to go wrong.

[Q] Log Files

I'm having an ongoing issue with my MT4G running CM7.1 where it will randomly reboot and take a day or two to stabilize again.
The issue is that whenever it is rebooted, whether randomly or on purpose, it just starts freezing after boot. It loads to the home screen, sometimes even runs for a few minutes then it freezes, forcing me to pop the battery and reboot. This then continues for a whole day sometimes two before it stays up and working. Then about a week or so later it will reboot randomly and the cycle repeats.
I'm trying to find a way to view any logs that might help me figure out what is doing this. I believe it may have something to do with the SD-EXT because if I unmount the SD card before reboot, it powers up fine to all of the internal default stuff. If I then mount the SD card after it is booted it finds all external apps fine. It does not find anything on the SD-EXT though. I use S2E for the SD-EXT and everything has been fine for months now. I'm guessing it is some app that is installed to SD-EXT but need to figure out which.
So I was wondering if there is an app out there or any way to view all of the log files even after a reboot. I looked into LogThis, neat little app btw, but it does not log if there is a reboot and obviously if the phone is rebooting I do not have time to run the app. :-/
Is there some way to do a dump file upon reboot or crash? Anything, please. Thank you!
If you can duplicate the reboot at will, run logcat through adb. When it reboots export the logcat to a text file.

more detail, please... what's the command in adb to do this?
I can just do a reboot myself, and then when it comes back up it will start doing the crashing cycle again. Will this log method get all of that?
I honestly would rather not reboot myself as I just got it back today after a 2-day loop. If I hook it up after it reboots on it's own again, will this still work to show me what happens when it freezes?

As this runs externally it catches pretty much everything. You cannot solve the problem until you identify its cause. Its up to you.

Thanks. I will give it a try, but my daughter is travelling this weekend so I need my phone on and don't want to chance not being able to get it back. I will check out your suggestion after. Thanks!
OK, so I finally got around to trying your logcat suggestion and I now have several very very long detailed log files saved on the desktop. I don't suppose there's a guide for newbs out there telling me how to read these darn things and figure out what's going wrong, is there?

4.4.2 - Issues after update? SD Card Write fix?

Hi, I just wondered if anyone else is having issues after the Kit Kat update? Maybe we could start a list here.... I'm on the stock recovery and not rooted (and have been since day one). If you add issues, please could you tell everybody whether or not you're rooted etc.
1.Can't write files so MicroSD card using file manager apps (but I can do it if I connect the Note to a PC in MTP mode, then drag and drop files from internal to external storage
2. MC3 doesn't work - this one may bring about the end of civilisation as we know. No really, it might.
3. Stuttering when playing movies over HDMI to a TV (this was present in 4.3 too, but not 4.2.2)
4. Options to use auto-correct, double tap of the space bar etc when a hardware keyboard is connected do not work (this extra menu only appears when your keyboard is connected).
5. Various slow downs and pauses.
6. Battery life, as mentioned by foxxorrrorororors (approximate spelling)
7. GPS - still pretty bad for me, even with GPS Test....
Anybody else got the same, or perhaps other issues?
*UPDATE* I just tried a full factory reset and the microSD card write issue remains. You also can't write files to an external USB drive either. Clearly Nvidia doesn't have a very thorough procedure for testing these updates before pushing them to our devices. Muppets.
**UPDATE** If you are rooted, the tutorial in this thread fixes the write to SD card problem as far as I can tell http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2617921
1. jup, vlc cant access sdcard either - seems they changed something here.
2. na
3. na
4. na, using swiftkey
5. not yet
6. maybe, time will show
7. jup

cars10k, thanks for responding - do you mean MC3 does work for your, or that you haven't tried it? Sorry if I'm being a bit dumb
Writing to Sd card was killed by Samsung in their KitKat update - apparently the permissions are set wrong in platform.xml. I don't know if this is the case for us. I can't even use Helium Backup to write to the MicroSd card. Darn.

Yeah, I use it daily too. Really frustrating. I'm tempted to cut my nose off to spite my face and just take the tablet back to Currys. There's no point Nvidia throwing out updates with newer versions of android and extra features if they break basic stuff in the process (USB OTG hard drive unmounting being one example of something that was broken by the 4.3 update).

Do you mean like the whole tablet becomes unresponsive at times? You can't even get to the home screen or turn the screen off? Then after anything from 30 second to 2 minutes it just comes alive again? I was experiencing that even before the update - with very few apps installed (same as my Sammy 7.7 which never froze). I've reset to factory and haven't had it again... Yet...

Here's a thread about how to solve the problem of not being able to write to the SD card. You need to root first though unfortunately. On the plus side there's absolutely no reason why Nvidia Shouldn't push a fix out very quickly if they are paying attention.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2617921
After rooting I used ES File Explorer. Before you can do anything, in ES File explorer turn on Root Explorer in the side menu by tapping the button next to that entry, then tap on the Root Explorer text itself to enter the options menu for root access. In the menu that pops up tap "Mount R/W" and press the radio button to mount "/system" as RW, then press ok. After that you can follow the instructions to edit the Platform.xml as laid out in the link above. I used ES File Explorer's in built text editor to do this. After you've made the changes to platform.xml, you to set the correct permissions for the file, again using ES File Explorer (long press platform.xml, press the menu button in the bottom right hand corner, then tap properties) change the permissions to rw-r-r-. That should be it, in theory you can now write files to external storage.

Google's KitKat is supposed to be restrictive on allowing apps to be installed to sdcard1, but you maybe able to trick installs using symbolic linked folders.

Wiping dalvik cache isn't an option in the stock recovery on Kit Kat. I just looked a few mins ago. Wiping cache is there and I used it, but it still isn't solving the slow booting/loading time.

That's fine, I'm not going bother with rooting, I'm rolling back to stock 4.3. This whole kit kat update left a really sour taste in my mouth and rooting the tablet just to put in a dirty hack to fix it is ugly, IMHO. The fix isn't even guaranteed to solve it completely as others have expressed other issues. At least with 4.3, I know I didn't have much problems with it, and I need my sdcard for hosting files (25GB worth) for an app that putting them in the cloud isn't workable when I can't access them on the road or at places sans wifi.

Agreed. While I think Nvidia have done a great job at pushing out updates in a timely manner, the quality of those updates has been poor. Each time they have added some useful features, they have also either introduced new bugs or failed to fix existing bugs. On the one hand, I want the latest update due to the game mapper functionally and the fact that they fixed the bug regarding unmounting external hard drives (which they introduced in 4.3), but i don't want to have to employ a workaround to use my microSD card or an external hard drive freely. It's such a shame as this device has so much potential. I don't think I'll be buying the next Nvidia device.
To roll back to 4.3 involved installing unsigned drivers on my PC (a real no no) and unlocking the boot loader (which means my warranty is now void). What a stupid end user experience Nvidia and Google have created between them. At a time when I want to move away from rooting my device and flashing custom recoveries and ROMs they are actually making doing so more and more of a necessity. If I'm going to have to keep tinkering with my devices to get them to function in the way I want, then I would like a better OS that does less dodgy stuff with my data and is truly open....

Can't copy to root internal memory, gallery doesn't display pictures and can't downlo

I have searched this place properly but I haven't come across anyone that has really addressed the issues I am having right now. And just to explain things better, this post might be quite long. I want to make things easier for anyone that's trying to help. Let's get to it then.
Initially I installed cm11 using twrp but I didn't like the interface of cm11 so I decided to go for pa. But I encountered a problem. I couldn't find the pa zip I copied to my root sdcard memory. So I formatted the system and data using cwm. Was able to find it in the legacy folder or something. Then I flashed pa to my phone. It worked fine and I loved it instantly. Runs smoothly except for these little things that are driving me insane.
1) I could copy data immediately after installing but hours later I can not copy data(pic, songs, etc). From computer to internal memory anymore( I don't have an external sdcard). Even if I reboot the phone still doesn't work.
2)Gallery also works initially but stops working later.it shows the amount of pictures but I can't view anything.
3)I use apps like zedge and mp3 download. I can't download any music or ring tones from these apps. Although I could still download pictures from zedge.
4)lastly,my screen sensitivity quite higher than usual but I can live with this.
5) oh and I tried to take a screenshot but it says( can't capture, memory in use)

This has happened on my nexus 7 and nexus 5. It isn't a ROM problem. It is a problem with permissions and timestamps on the storage. The only way I know to fully fix it is to flash back to stock using fastboot (not sure if oppo offers this), and reflash recovery and then reflash ROM
#stayparanoid
I tried flashing back to stock bit always fails, I don't know why. Here are the steps I followed.
* flash oppo recovery from the terminal to my and press volume up key+power button.
* this works, cause when next I boot into recovery I find the oppo recovery rom there.
*next, copy the original oppo zip to the root folder.
*wipe cache
*install from sdcard but always fails.
Someone should help please.
