Ok so I flashed my girlfriends phone with Axura 2.1 and ran into problems. I have since ODIN'd about 3 times and reflashed different roms with the same results. I have narrowed it down and tested on my phone. What is happening is when I go to restore contacts I will start getting force close on not only contacts but swype and google framework as well. I was able to place her contacts backup in my titanium folder and produce the same results. I was able to back out of this also by deleting her contacts backup and restoring my own, no force close.
At this point all I want to do is retrieve the contact info. I am able to open the contacts.db file and view in wordpad but it's all over the place and huge. The contacts don't line up with there info. Is there another way to open this file and view this info in a properly formatted way so that I can copy over the info?
You might try attacking the problem from a different angle. All your contacts "should be" synced to your Google account. If so, why not just log into GMail on your computer? Click "Contacts" on the left and then export them as a .vcf (VCard format). You can later import them straight from that exported file on the phone itself using the import/export selection from the contacts app menu.
Yeah unfortunately she never synced her contacts with her google account and they were only saved on the phone. I strictley have mine saved to google just for this reason.

I had the same thing happen to me, but only after trying to restore a titanium backup of my contacts, that was made while running stock jk6, to a jk2 rom. I don't what the difference is between the two, perhaps framework, dialer, contacts app, all of the above or none. I keep my contacts on my sim card as a backup, so for me they were easily restored. Have you tried to reflash axura then restore contacts to that rom since that was the source rom the backup was made from? If it works, then export contacts to sim, sd, or both.

I'll give that a try. Actually the source was stock JK6 and now it's Axura

That makes perfect sense, as the stock jk6 is what did it to me too. I would go back to that one temporarily while you try to retrieve her contacts. Good luck.

Thanks I've been going back and forth all day with this. Flash back to JK6 stock saved contacts both to SIM and Google re-flashed Axura and not a single force close. Worked like a charm, thanks again.
Glad it worked

I've been flashing and enjoying all the different roms. I backed up my phone from a few days ago via clockwork recovery and one version has all of the contacts that I need, but when I restore the data after a new flash, not only do I get the contacts I want, but also other things that I don't want to restore.
So for now, I just want to bring over the contacts file that I backed up, and none of the other data. I tried google sync but it only brings over the email addresses, but not the phone numbers of my contact. I tried Titanium Backup, but it did the same thing. I tried Android Backup app, but it won't restore what I backed up.
Where can I find the specific contacts file and what is the best way to back it up and restore it?
This isn't a direct answer to your question however the simplest and most foolproof way is to go into contacts and export the list. You can take that file and import it into your gmail contacts (the option is there). After that you can move the email addresses to another folder within your gmail contacts. (They'll still be just as easily accessed when emailing) After that when you do gmail sync it will always bring back just the phone numbers. Then it's as easy and adding that acccount within your rom. Hope this helps....

When you log into google it should automatically sync your apps and contacts.
Added Gmail still no luck

They only other way would be going back via backup and syncing your stuff with google..you made a backup before installing Liberty right?

Yes I did will try that
I had the same problem when I flashed Liberty. The way I got around it was by flashing back to my previous ROM, backed up my apps and data with Titanium Backup, and performed and Export of my contacts (found in the menu options while in the Contacts app).
Flashed Liberty again, Imported my contacts (also found in the Contacts menu), and performed a Batch Restore with Titanium Backup.
I've been in love ever since.

At first glance of this I thought your SD card wasn't being recognized...
But that wouldn't make sense because of the fact that you were able to restore your apps from your SD card.
Check your SD card for a file named 00001.vcf in your SD's root. If you can't find it, then the Export wasn't successful.
Since you already have your APPs back, I would suggest you make a Backup of that in the case that you wanted to try it again. If you do try it again, then make sure that (after you export, but before restoring Liberty) you check your SD card for that file (00001.vcf). If it exported succesfully, then restore Liberty and Import.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
You could simply back up your contacts with mybackup pro and restore them after flashing the rom
Ok... just installed the Aura rom. Nice... but also just realized that my contacts were mostly stored on Blur... not Google. Used ROM Manager to backup my previous stock ROM. Is there a file anywhere in the backups that can be used to restore the contacts from Blur or something like that? Or do i have to go the route of installing the Aura ROM that still has the Blur accounts stuff?
edit: nevermind. getting too late, and need my contacts, so i just downloaded the Accounts version of Aura and installed that.
Not 100% sure how it works, but I'm pretty sure that the Motoblur website has your contacts synced up there. I think you can download them as a csv and then import to Google or whatever.

OK, so my contacts are out of control. I have been sync'ing my contacts with Google, and now somehow I've ended up with a TON of duplicates. I would love to get a pristine copy of all my contacts and then just save it and then restore it everytime I flash a new ROM, but I don't know what is the best way to do that. I do have Tibu, but I've always run into problems trying to restore my contacts with Tibu after flashing a new ROM. I'm looking for advice from you guys on what is the best app to delete all my duplicates and then the best way to save and restore a perfect copy of my contacts when flashing new ROMs. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have all my contacts on my Google account, that way I don't have to worry about backing them up. Then they are simply pushed to my phone when I punch in my google credentials. You might need to manage your google contacts on the computer.. it will be a lot easier. Log into gmail on the computer, and then in the upper left you can get into all your contacts. From there you can use Find and Manage Duplicates, import CSV files etc. If some contacts are only on your phone, you might need to export them as a CSV file and import them on your computer.
Once you get this in order, you don't have to worry about backing/restoring contacts on tibu etc, it'll just push directly to your phone after signing in.
Try Going into your contacts app, select the menu button and click contacts to view. It might be showing contacts that are on your phone and contacts that are on your google account.
hi guys, I made a backup of my buddies phone with philz recovery. Then I flashed it but the contacts did not sync and i forgot to back those up. So I went to restore the back up and upon booting up all the apps crash. Like I cant do anything, all i get is a black screen with "has suddenly stopped working"
I have no idea whats going on. I flashed phone back to stock and rooted it and am trying to use nandroid manager to go to the Com.contacts folder and extract/copy it but to no prevail. The contacts in this case are very important.
What's going on? What can I do to get the contacts out? Or why the heck wont the backup work? It's like it got corrupted even though it did say it backed up just fine with no errors. Thanks!
You can use Titanium Backup to extract data from nandroids.......you have to pay for the app.....but it is one of the most useful apps a rooted phone user can get.

Just thought id add a note here, the stock contacts app has the ability to backup/restore contacts, just go to your contacts and go to settings<contacts then there should be an import/backup option.

after a long tedious day I managed to succeed... I got the backup onto my pc, combined the couple .a-e files into one, and went into where the contacts2.db is, I then copied that to phone, and used a file explorer with root, copied and pasted it in the old place and walla... I converted contacts to google account as to "device" only and now they are finally actually being maintained by google sync.
I know that you can just import/export a contact list and I should of done that in the first place as it'd of saved me literally hours of work... But I thought that google automatically synced the contacts and that it wasnt that you had to change them over to google.
At least I guess the contact issue is solved. I still have no idea why the backup was having the apps crash. so It's good i made one to extract the file from but on the otherhand. It's useless in the sense i cannot boot it up.
