OK, so my contacts are out of control. I have been sync'ing my contacts with Google, and now somehow I've ended up with a TON of duplicates. I would love to get a pristine copy of all my contacts and then just save it and then restore it everytime I flash a new ROM, but I don't know what is the best way to do that. I do have Tibu, but I've always run into problems trying to restore my contacts with Tibu after flashing a new ROM. I'm looking for advice from you guys on what is the best app to delete all my duplicates and then the best way to save and restore a perfect copy of my contacts when flashing new ROMs. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have all my contacts on my Google account, that way I don't have to worry about backing them up. Then they are simply pushed to my phone when I punch in my google credentials. You might need to manage your google contacts on the computer.. it will be a lot easier. Log into gmail on the computer, and then in the upper left you can get into all your contacts. From there you can use Find and Manage Duplicates, import CSV files etc. If some contacts are only on your phone, you might need to export them as a CSV file and import them on your computer.
Once you get this in order, you don't have to worry about backing/restoring contacts on tibu etc, it'll just push directly to your phone after signing in.
Try Going into your contacts app, select the menu button and click contacts to view. It might be showing contacts that are on your phone and contacts that are on your google account.

So I just used geekfor.me prekitchen program for its auto-rooter ability and rooted my phone to recovery img 1.2.3... worked successfully and then did a nandroid backup...
But what now?
1. Should I upgrade to recovery img1.5.2 file? Does it matter and why?
2. Where is the nandroid backup saved? Is it on the phone and where on the phone?
3. Do I lose my contacts if I install a rom such as Fresh 1.1?
TIA
You should not loose your contacts...and I would Update to img1.5.2 ... because is newer?
and the nandroid should be on your SDCARD if I am not mistaken
All of what is said above is true, and updating to fresh1.1 shouldnt erase ANYTHING ON THE PHONE. it will only update the Operating System Files
How do I back up my contacts from now on... I had to completely input them manually which was a pain in the ass.
Also... so since I installed fresh1.1... what cool things can I continue to do to the phone?
As for backing up your contacts, if you synced with a gmail account, and if you saved your contacts type as Google, they automatically get backed up to your gmail account, if I understand the system correctly.

Correct, but it is a hell of a lot easier to enter all the contact info at Gmail page rather than on the phone. At least you have a nice big screen and keyboard then. Then those contacts get pushed to the phone.
I'm sorry if this was answered somewhere but I did a few searches and couldn't find anything. I just rooted my Incredible and did a nandroid backup and when into recovery and did a wipe and loaded up a custom rom. Everything seemed to work fine but I went into my contacts and only my google contacts were there. Do I need to export my contacts to my sd card so I can import them back in again in the custom rom? I guess I just thought titanium backup would do this but any answer would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
your phone contacts are managed by verizon not google...so what I did was exported all my contacts on from vzw.com/backupassistant (you export it a .csv file) and then import that into google. From now on, you should defintiely save all contacts to google, especially since developers are having issue with vzw backup asst...
I've been flashing and enjoying all the different roms. I backed up my phone from a few days ago via clockwork recovery and one version has all of the contacts that I need, but when I restore the data after a new flash, not only do I get the contacts I want, but also other things that I don't want to restore.
So for now, I just want to bring over the contacts file that I backed up, and none of the other data. I tried google sync but it only brings over the email addresses, but not the phone numbers of my contact. I tried Titanium Backup, but it did the same thing. I tried Android Backup app, but it won't restore what I backed up.
Where can I find the specific contacts file and what is the best way to back it up and restore it?
This isn't a direct answer to your question however the simplest and most foolproof way is to go into contacts and export the list. You can take that file and import it into your gmail contacts (the option is there). After that you can move the email addresses to another folder within your gmail contacts. (They'll still be just as easily accessed when emailing) After that when you do gmail sync it will always bring back just the phone numbers. Then it's as easy and adding that acccount within your rom. Hope this helps....

worked! Thanks so much.
Hey guys, I rooted last night and removed a lot of the bloatware but now I find that I can't sync my contacts with their names on facebook. It just lists under my facebook account 0 contacts. any help would be appreciated
thank you
stock facebook app in market doesn't sync your contacts with facebook.. its obv not bloatware if you want to use it. either push facebook for mytouch back on or get one of the facebook sync apps in the market to resync them
The stock Facebook app does sync with your contacts in stock Google ROMs, it just does do it in Sense ROMs (or at least the "MySense" version, not sure about normal Sense).
Hopefully you moved the files and didn't delete them. Just move them back. If you deleted them, you just learned a lesson. You made a nandroid backup before you started deleting system stuff, right? Flash the nandroid backup. No nandroid? Lesson learned again.System restore then. Oh, wait. System restore won't put back files you deleted if you're rooted. My bad. You could be SOL unless someone sends you the files you need. There's a nandroid of a fresh install on the forums. That might be your best bet.

I've searched in vain for an answer to this. I'm running the new Virtuous Affinity v2.05.0. I keep my contacts synced with T-Mobile rather than putting them in Gmail. I want to get my contacts synced back to the phone. When I go to add that account (Settings > Accounts & Sync > Add an Account), there is no T-Mobile account type option. Can someone tell me the name of the .APK I need to install to get the T-Mobile account type back? I have a copy of the rooted stock v2.3.4 ROM so I can get any of the included .APKs.
Thanks.

Asked this months ago as most custom roms have it removed...you can flash the rooted stock and let your contacts re sync, then use an app that backs up contacts and then restore them whenever you flash another rom...if you read the thread I linked, there its a way to pull the contacts out of the my tmobile website so you can import them into google. Once your contacts are in google, you won't have to worry about it as long as you own an android phone
