Have you tried it? I tried and didn't work. That only enable data network not fixing Mobile AP. Actually when i run Mobile AP, all my device can connect to Samsung but when i want to browsing internet using my device it show no internet connection. This problem appear after I upgrade to Froyo before i upgrade using Eclair is no problem.
Its working on all firmware i have tried.
It also work on my kernel.
So it must be your phone that has wrong settings or corrupt program.
Or its the speedmod kernel you use.

Yes I have tried it, Mobile AP should be improved to enable data mode, but if I do it manually I get full internet access on the connected device, you should check your APN settings and make sure you can browse on the SGS using data mode, if that works, I see no reason you cannot get mobile AP to work after.
I have the same issue on my captivate, i can connect to the phone but have no internet access.

You must edit DNS address on your computer if you connect your phone with your computer. I tried and have no problem now.
Why would i have to edit any settings on my computer when connecting to a mobile access point? You scan for open ap's, connect and it should work.

I put my provider DNS address. Maybe you can ask your provider
SOLVED!
Finally solved!
If your computer is able to connect to your SGS Mobile AP, but has no internet access, you are probably using a proxy server.
The proxy should be configured both in the phone APN, and in the computer internet settings. Make sure the same proxy from your phone is input into you computer, under Internet Options > Connections > Lan Settings.
Also, it seems that all Froyo roms affect DNS' ability to translate proxy hostnames into IP addresses.
In plain English, the proxy on your computer should be input as 74.125.79.104 rather than www.google.com (dummy example).
You can find the IP address of any hostname using http://www.selfseo.com/find_ip_address_of_a_website.php
Hope this helps.

Hi all, i managed to connect my XDA II to Activesync successfully and everything synchronize perfect.
i am just having hard time to make my XDA II Connect to the internet using the Activesync connection.
i went to options --> Rules ---> pass through , i have 2 choices here in connections 1. work and 2. internet !!! i wonder what they mean, any way i tried both and was not able to connect to the internet. do i need to make any changes to my XDA II Connections!!!
thanks for your help
I believe in your Connections in XDA II, you need to select my network card connects to Internet and select the Internet option in pass thru settings in ActiveSync
adapter!!!
ok i selected the the network card conects to: "The internet"
what about the other section. the adapter to modify, which one i should select!! i have 4 choices here:
1. NE2000
2. L2TP
3. ASYNCmAC
4. PPTP
My understanding is that you don't need to worry about those 4 adapters to get pass through to work. The most important thing is that both the pc passthrough connection and the Xda ii network card connection are the same. I.e. they are either both set to "Work", or both set to "The Internet". I use the "work" setting
i think i will break this stupid device :x , i tried both "work" and "the internet" non of them worked for me. and when i go to my XDA II Device and i change my network card to connect to work and click ok and check it again, it appear going back to the internet selection!!!! my PC is connected 24h/day to the internet through ADSL and i can't make this thing to use it

Are your ISP using Proxy server?, if yes configure proxy setting in your XDAII device.
I was able to surf the internet using both pass through options .
I had this problem and in the end I found that if I enabled a public proxy:
212.42.175.155 port 80
then the XDA would connect to the internet through active sync.
i can't get my xdaii to activesync, just keeps coming up as guest? It synced OK the first time... now just guest only. any suggestions.
Try removing xda from cradle, delete partnership in activesync and then reconnect to establish a new partnership.
A complete removal/restore of activesyn may also work but is more tedious. Make sure it is the latest version also.

Yes abo_khaleel , my ISP is using Proxy server. Where exactly in XDA II i can configure the proxy server. i mean in the network card section. I know when i make a GPRS or data connection i can see Proxy settings there but with the activesync i can't see it.

Not sure about xda2, since I have I-mate, but:
After conneting thought activesync, click signal signal strength icon (on the top of the screen), then click settings, this will open connections settings, then click: edit my proxy server. if you have more one than connection, try them one by one.
I was just wondering....
why would u want to on the internet on ur XDA via activesync?...isnt ur PC online already?...i just dont see the point just seems like if u were to buy a microwave that needs to be put in the hot oven to work...or is just me?????????? :?:

i can see your point but my XDA II is connected to my PC using bluetooth and since it is a feature that i can use while i am every where at home why not having it , i mean i don't have to sit all days at my desk to do my internet work, i can use the net even when i have boring friends visiting me

hello...iam trying to connect my wizard to my PC using WIFI so i can use the internet connection of the PC on my Wizard.....iam able to connect the PC and WIZARD and even access files on the PC using the WIZARD....iam using a ad-hoc connection as my PC is equipped with a wireless network card (dont have a router unfortunately)....both the Wizard and PC are assigned static IPs(when i use DHCP on the Wizard it just refuses to pick up an IP address).....the issue iam having is i simply cant access the internet through the PC even though INTERNET CONNECTION SHARING is enabled on my PC and i know a netwrok connection between the PC and WIZARD has been established because both devices can ping each other...am i missing something???....thanks in advance for any help
do you have a firewall? you could try turning it off for a few mins see if thats causing problems.
if it is the firewall you can usually add the card as trusted.
i know norton stops all sort of things it shouldnt.
not using any firewall.....anything else ? what about connection settings on the WIZARD ?

That can be the problem. Do you have connections setup? If I remember correctly, you need at lest one setting setup. Who is your carrier? You can find cab files in this forum to make it very easy for you.
Please don't kill me but I want to know
HOW to make use WiFi instead of network on browsers and mail, once I connect?
once you connect you to a wifi network it should be just like using wifi on your computer.
a more specific question or example may allow someone to help you more.
The phone uses Wifi where possible by default. However as my push mail is running over the Vodafone Internet APN I have found some occasions where my browsing session wasn't using Wifi.
So I created my own homepage which tells me the IP address I'm on and works out if it's my wifi router or the Vodafone Internet. It also has all my bookmarks, which is a better than the built in solution from Opera.
If you aren't using the GPRS all day, try NoData which can block all GPRS usage.

Aha, the old friend from MySymbian
Well I'll try that NoData but good to hear X1 wants to use it by default (when connected). I don't use any push messages.
It's a Vodafone ROM thing. if you flash to another ROM it will work fine.
WiFi problem
No man, I have a Vodafone UK Xperia. problem with Wifi initially, then I've ROM it to the generic UK version...now it connects to Wifi but I cannot browse anything with it. The pages don't load and status keeps saying 'loading...' but nothing happens and after a min or so, a message saying that I have to check my internet connection...not connected!

Then you have your Wifi settings incorrect.
How come u say my Wifi settings are incorrect? How can I correct it? In wat way? my laptop etc connects to the Wifi fine...and the phone as well...but it just that the phone doesnt seem to load anything from internet when I'm connected.
First Check if you used the correct Key for your wifi if thats fine then ....
I've never had this problem with the xperia but I have had with other windows mobile phones it was probable because of older versions of windows mobile, if wifi is connected fine go to Settings -> Connections Tab -> Connections -> Advanced Tab -> Select Networks, then select My Network for both drop downs.

Because you are unable to surf the internet, which points to either the settings entered incorrectly (normally when using WEP) or your router needs a firmware upgrade.
Ok here's a complete answer to my question
HOW to make X1 to connect to WiFi ONLY:
Install NoData (thanks for tip!!!)
Turn this on to NOT transfer any network data.
All the browsers I tried (Opera Mini 4.2, Opera Mobile 9.5)
automatically connect by WiFi, so it's great.
Email NOT. But it's enough to
go to email account settings and in advanced server settings instead of your providers network
choose "The Internet".
Violaa, the email account also connects through WiFi.
Hope that helps somebody
Where do i get no data please
There's one topic here called no data cab file!!
Just find it and it's there!
i got problems with my fritzbox 7270, too.
but i solved it.
just set the 802 adaptor manual to your wifi settings.
free ip adress in your segment, gateway, nameserver.
i think its a dhcp problem, with my 7270.

sorry for my bad english
2) if Ur wifi has no proxy , in wifi list, tap and hold on ur network , then EDIT , and then set this: connect to WORK (defaul is INTERNET)
i had a similar problem, turns out i got a wrong ip address assigned to my device you should check and see what ip address you get and if thats not correct set it manually to something that will work.

I've got a similar problem now that I didn't before a recent hard reset. It's assigning 192.168.1.1 on every router I've tried and I have no internet. Internet is working on each router at each location via a pc both wired and wireless so I assume its an IP problem. Any ideas?
EDIT:
Sorry, found the reply in another thread. Incase anyone is interested:

Hi,
My hero used to work great until I got a new router (Netgear WNR2000). Since then, I cant access the Android market and other apps that require net. Are there any ports I should open on the router?
Thanks.
Have you updated the settings on your hero to match your router?
You will find them on the bottom of it(router).
Hope this helps.
Try setting the router to g only, rather then g and n. Worked for me.

which settings do you mean?
Does your Hero connect to the router?
If not you may be using the wrong Wi-Fi password (for example that of your former router).
Use a browser and enter the IP 192.168.0.1 for router setup in order to change it.
Also if possible disable Hi-speed Wi-Fi (N).
If your Hero is connected to the router then check ADSL settings - usually bad username/password - (always using the routers web interface) as you may not be connected to the internet.

Thanks for all the replies.
The thing is, I can check my email, surf the net etc... but none of the Android things work... market, widgets that require internet access

Sounds like the router is suppressing protocol/socket types, ie, permitting 8080 but not other sockets.
Also, try turning on DMZ.
I have exactly the same router and the same problem. My hero works fine with all routers except the one I own.
