Now that visionary is off the market is there an easy way to root just like that? I don't like the idea of plugging in my phone to computer just to root

Was anyone else unable to root their myTouch 4G? I rooted my G2, but when I try to root my myTouch it simply does not work. It never recognizes the insmod /data/local/wpx.ko command so I can't do anything beyond that. G2 worked without a hitch.
I hope there's an easier root method soon.
Did you transfer the files via ADB, or Root Explorer?
I'm glad the devs got us root rather quickly, but personally I'm waiting for a decent ROM and easier method before attempting. I'm happy atm with temp root and freezing apps/bloatware so I don't really see a need to perma-root now. But to each their own, I hope the people who want to root now are able to do so with relative ease. Cheers.
I read in the G2 forum that Visionary is supposed to update tomorrow to include the G2 for Perma Root, might include us as well. Might be worth it to wait a couple days.
OK I don't know this but when I temp root with visionary once and I automatically get a super user icon if it worked now when I did that and set the setting turn fastboot off and the usb thing once I did all that and now I can use any application that has root access on it now when I boot my phone and go to use my root apps it says super user granted and I can still use the root Apps and I don't even have to reroot my phone again so now I'm asking do i have root all the time now cuz I don't have to use visionary again to temp root or permanent root do any one have the same thing.
How much does it cost to use punctuation?
I've tried to decipher what you have asked.
I believe you wonder how a temporary root could be acting as if it were permanent. If that is what you wanted to know, the VISIONary application has a setting for "temp root on boot" -- this will give you temporary root every time you boot the phone. If you disable that setting, and reboot, you will not have root access.
Root access alone is not enough to install custom ROMs, but it is enough to use a number of applications that require root access.
Yea sorry not good in explaining things. okay i see now, I'm still new at this but thank you. for clearing that up for me.
I was able to get my phone to s-off permanently but its not rooted so I assume its partially rooted. When I try to us Rom Manager to install ClockworkMod it tells me the phone is not rooted. Do I have to push the root using ADB? Also to explain I used VISIONary+ version 14 with Astro to root the phone if that helps any. Now, when I try to perm root the phone with VISIONary+ it tells me I have to temp root and when I do that again it just stays in a loop, and doesn't really root it. I was able to get SU privileges in the beginning but not anymore.
I googled this issue but to much information was thrown out there so I do apologize for asking what may be a repeating question
I have the same issue.. I finally got s-off to stick and now i cant perm root plus i am not familiar using adb
Yeah I haven't bothered with pushing perm root with adb only because I want to make sure that this is common. Adb is actually really easy to use. As long as you follow and type the code exactly then all will be great.

for some reason.. whenever I do temp root with visionary or z4... It says its rooting.. then my phone "restarts" does the sprint 4g slaph screen and gets stuck on the big 4G logo...
I ran visionary when I first got the shift(temp root to run titanium backup) but now it's not working. anyone know why?
I tried z4 and visionary+ and it makes my phone run very slow. R ran seepu and saw that the cpu usage at max all the time. My phone got hot.
I want to root for the wifi hotspot but I'm afraid of messing up the perm root and bricking my phone, so temp root would be ideal, but it isn't really working. Am i missing something?
Its pretty hard to brick this phone...

when i was rooting my shift z4 wouldn't work for me at all. it did the exact same thing you're describing, temp root>reboot>no root. visionary worked like a charm both times i've rooted this (i was having second thoughts on keeping it so i flashed it stock one night when i was drunk). anyways, if you follow the instructions line by line and copy/paste the code to adb shell it's a pretty painless process. you can root, backup wimax keys, and install clockwork recovery in a matter of about 20 minutes. everyone is nervous their first time... but it's really not difficult. the biggest problems i had was getting the usb drivers to install correctly (win7 x64) and getting a good copy of visionary. other than that, it's easy.
what i'm really trying to say is, i would suggest just perm rooting your device... with root and titanium you can delete all the crap you don't like (ie. kindle, amazon, nfl or nascar) and it makes it easier to work with. you can also OC/UV the stock rom for an even sweeter experience.
Yup, Perma-rooted. Got help in the Shift IRC, they are very nice ppl.
I was having difficulty with the ordinary Temproot option of Visionary (it kept rebooting and slowing down instead), so I instead tried Temproot on Boot. It worked great just now--I'm hoping it continues to do so.
Visionary and Z4root
I am unable to find this in the Android market, is it safe to search for the .apk's for both and install?
This should get you on the right track...

Perfect! Thanks for the quick reply.
I sometimes have the same problem with both Visionary+ and Z4Root. I also notice, that when it fails to root, the app also disappears.
For me, If I reboot, the app comes back. If I try a second time, it always works.
is there a way to root without computer? im tired of sprint/samsung its suppose to be a known issue so has anyone figured this beast out?
Yes. Use z4root, which you can find here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953
