Google Voice not sending notifications - Droid X General

I use Google voice as my only phone number. Lately, whenever I get a text or a voicemail, it won't notify me. Even if I manually refresh, it still won't notify me. Background data is turned on and I have SMS messages turned off because I don't like getting 2 notifications. If I uninstall and reinstall it, it works fine for a time and then stops working again some time later. If I take out the battery and "hard" reboot, it will send all the messages that have been "hanging" to the phone again. Sometimes, I'll get texts/voicemails that are over a day old and I had no idea they were there.
This makes it where Google voice is pretty much useless to me, especially since I use it partially for work and if I'm missing voicemails, then I'm not servicing my students properly.
Any one else out there have this same problem?

I've had a similar situation with texts -- no notifications. I haven't received any voicemails recently, so I can't comment there. I was glad to be able to avoid having all texts to GV resent as texts to my phone, but I may have to do that, at least temporarily.

Things I've noticed....

Hello, new poster, long time reader. I have searched and haven't found anything exactly pertaining to me...so here it goes...
First observation; When using the instant messengers, windows live, aim and yahoo all sign out randomly. Gtalk stays connected. I've read a post somewhere describing that when you leave a tower and connect to a new tower, disconnects can happen because of how it is setup, including the use of wi-fi and disconnecting from that can cause it to d/c when you switch back to 3g/edge. Well, through my own observation, this is not the case. I have stayed in one spot for most of the day before (my couch) and have had the services disconnect, only using edge. However, Gtalk remains active at all times, even when driving through town. Would anyone be able to explain this to me or help with a solution?
Second observation; A new application came out, Callblocker. This appearantly uses the phones feature to send calls directly to voicemail. I have tried using this feature before on my phone and by sending directly to voicemail, it then procedes to not give any sound. I have read that this is a known issue, however there are people that have used this feature and not had this issue. Is there a fix I don't know of? I currently have a recorded ringtone of silence for these numbers I don't want to take, but that doesn't stop the vibration, nor the inability to use the phone for the duration of the ringing. Help?
Third observation; I have recently been having phone spasms, where certain numbers that have a set ringtone will randomly choose a different ringtone for a different person, (i.e. My wife will get the standard ringtone, my ignores will get my wifes, and a standard will get my ignores...) I found this to be random and non reproduceable. Has anyone heard of this? And if so, is there a fix?
Otherwise this is the best phone I have had and will most likely remain as such! Thank you!
#1 and #2 I'm not familiar with but #3 I'm getting the same behavior. It's annoying.
get hello Im if you need aim. the random disconnects are when you go from 3g to egde and back. the stock Im app sucks balls
the g1 has a built in call blocker. never used it, so i wouldn't be able to comment on if it works or not
I have a few custom tones for certain people and i think they reverted back to my default tone once or twice. never knew why. i just gave up on individual tones.
The thing is, I live in Tucson, there is no 3g, only edge, so I don't see how that could happen. Also, why doesn't the Gtalk disconnect as well? only the other three?
otherwise, thanks for the reply....any other takers?
If you are using the stock/default apps that came with the phone, the Gtalk one is the only one that uses data to send the msgs. The others all use sms's. Id suggest using one of the third party apps for im's.
That may be so, but why would a brief data disconnect cause any of the services to disconnect, and not the one that uses data? As many have said in regards to why they stop.
Also, a third party app may be an alternative, but it doesn't answer the why...
Also, does anyone know about the second two observations?
First off, Google programmed Gtalk, they programmed Android, they programmed the stock IM app. Thus they know how to write the app so that it works properly. They have nothing to do with AIM, Yahoo, MSN, etc. They wrote an app that works to an extent. Since those other IM apps are "competing" with them they have no incentive to "fix" them.
If you want an app that works with AIM or MSN etc then 3rd party is how you will have to go.
I'm sorry, did I offend you in some regard? Google has the source codes for all three of the other instant messenger apps in order to program them for android. So again, your answer doesn't answer the why...
is there a specific instance that they disconnect? Is it really hiccups in the network? if it is hiccups, why do programs that use sms to transmit data intermittently, disconnect when the constant data stream is no longer there.
Now I have tried meebo, it's useless in my opinion, every ten minutes you have to resign in on however many accounts you're using and it may remember your password and user id, but it doesn't care which service you are trying to log into...so it will keep your id and pw in the entry boxes the same, even though you switched from aim to msn.
I have dl'd Hi Msn as well. So far it is the best for msn...pretty interface too.
Now, away from the messengers because there doesn't seem to be a concrete answer besides, "google doesn't care...",;
Does anyone know about the silencing of phone sounds when you press the red phone symbol to cancel an incoming call or when forwarding directly to voicemail? There are programs now that take advantage of these features and people that like them. Am i missing something? How does a program use the forward to voicemail feature, without silencing all sounds? The only "fix" I have found for this is to make a call out, normally voicemail.
Also, so far there are two people who have experienced the random ringtone for assigned ringtone contacts. Any answers? or just a bug? Because this is rather recent.

No voicemail, yet the voicemail icon appears?

Hello,
I am not sure where the issue is, but I decided to ask here prior to calling my provider.. (Fido).
I have visual voice mail plus (don't think that's the issue), and I got the Nexus 4 a few days ago and since then I noticed that the voicemail icon is always there even though I have no voice mails.
I found a workaround, which kind of tells me that the issue is not with fido but with the app.
If I clear data on the phone app, the voicemail icon disappears till I reboot the phone, then its back again...
I tried calling and leaving messages after clearing data, and it works nicely, the icon shows up, I delete vm, it disappears, on reboot..its back again...ugh.
Any ideas? thanks!

Not getting notifications on watch or on phone, driving me crazy!

So lately I have not been getting hangout notifications and it's driving me nuts. I have it paired to my android wear watch and 80% of the time it works fine but other times I get text messages and nothing, no buzz, not even a notification in my task manager letting me know I have a unread message, totally blank. It's not until I go into hangouts and I see the bold text that I know I got a message. Even when not paired to the watch, same thing, no buzz, sound, notificiaon icon, nothing until I open hangouts and see it.
Anyone else having this issue?? Driving me crazy and I already missed plans with friends because of it. Fully stock and on 6.0.1 as of a few days ago and still the problem.
Are you logged into hangouts on another device or computer? Also check to make sure you didn't snooze their notifications.

I had this issue. Try turning off wifi and see if it works. Mine did on cell data only. The messages would come into me on wifi, but I would just not get notified. I did a roll back on it and a re-install and it started working again normally. The first time I had this was on my Nexus 6. This is a LONG running hangouts problem ( various posts out there show it going back to 2012 ).

[HELP] Group messaging (MMS) issues

I want to start off by saying I have 1 or 2 group messages that go on throughout the whole day, every day. When I first got the Verizon S7 edge, I had zero issues for the first three days. All of the sudden, at least once a day, there is an issue receiving and sending group messages. I can't link it to anything specific besides it happening most when the group chat is most active. 11 people in the chat are sending multiple messages at a time and then I'll send a message at the same time and i realize mine is not sending and then I stop receiving everyone else's messages. If I go to the individual participants chat in my texting app, there will be a bunch of messages that are downloading. This has happened to me in the past with other phones, but its usually linked to having bad service at a certain time and simply turning mobile data on and off will fix the issue. I cant link it to anything this time, it happens randomly. It doesn't matter where I am, if I have 1 bar or 4 bars, if wifi is on/off, bluetooth is on/off. The messages eventually start coming in, but I dont know what causes that to happen either. I could restart the phone 4 times before it helps. The only thing I can say is it happens most often when the group chat is most active. I'll also mention that this wasn't an issue in the first 3-5 days of using the phone. Below are the steps I've already taken to try and resolve the issue.
1. Wifi on/off
2. Mobile data on/off
3. Restarting the phone
4. Tried 4 different texting apps - Hangouts, google messenger, samsung messenger, verizon messenger
5. Factory reset
6. New SIM card
7. Swapped the phone out for a brand new one. Issue started again with the new one after 3-5 days.
8. Enabled every app that was disabled
9. Activated/deactivated advanced calling
10. Called Verizon tech support - We replicated the issue and thought it was due to "delete old messages" being turned on in the settings. Tech support thought the phone was trying to delete old messages at the same time I was receiving a bunch of texts and everything would get stuck. Everything seemed fine after changing that, but it happened again a few hours later.
11. I've run out of options
I had the Note 5 before this and had zero issues with that phone and I've never had an Iphone.

Background data/apps restricted despite being disabled

I have an odd issue on the T-mo variant and while it's great for battery life, it's killing my workflow!
This has happened across multiple ROMs and since I've had the phone.
It also seems to be the same in Wifi and Cellular.
After about 5 minutes of turning off the screen, the phone stops getting notification.
For example, with the phone off, I have no Whatsapp messages.
Once I open Whatsapp on the other had, the phone blows up with all sorts of missed messages.
Same is true with other apps.
I use a messaging app, and the user account for the phone actually shows disconnected with the phone off.
It only comes back if I open the app, or after the phone is on about 3-4 minutes.
I have excluded the above apps in optimization, with the same results.
So, who's got ideas?

Im not experiencing the delay but via text as you but I'm definitely getting the lagging Gmail. I click it (sometimes I dont have to) and wham ... 8 emails. It's really become an issue. I do experience the random no reply from a texting every now & then ... It seems to be only non TMobile people it does it with. Like me and someone can be having a lengthy back & forth via text and outta nowhere they won't respond. Someone mentioned using Textra as a fix.
Im rooted on stock rom, T-Mobile with a few minimalistic thing's frozen.
