You shouldn't need to change your modem but make sure you flash a kernel that is for 2.1 (Eclair) or else your phone won't boot.
How to get to DK modem?
I have a rooted epic 2.1 and used one click root 2.5
I want to use quantum v1.5 dk17 rom [warp speed edition].
what are the steps to get there and make everything work properly?
how do i get to DK17?
What modem am I on?
I read some where on how to find what modem a user is running, but I cannot find the reply that contained the quote again. Been reading so much and been flipping to so many pages got confused where that quote was located.
I looked at my phone info and i do see "eclair" somewhere in the screen.
So what kernels are compatible with eclair?
Anyone?
thankS!!
Edit: since rooted I have installed titanium backup and wifi tether. not sure if that makes a difference.
Go to shizos new epic rom 2.0.1 dk17 thread and on the first post he has instructions to get everything installed. You will need to download the dk17 extended though and have odin to do it

Hello fellow XDA members. I'm in need of a little guidance. I currently have (please see title of thread) and I'm looking to flash the DK28 Froyo either through update.zip or Odin. If I'm correct when I flash this I will lose root? Will I also lose my kernel, or will that DK28 zip/tar file come with it's own kernel? If it does come with it's own kernel I wouldn't need to do anything but flash or update.zip the DK28 file correct? Or would I need to take my Phoenix kernel off? If so where do I find the stock kernel. I've searched and searched and sorry if I'm not seeing it and if someone could provide a link to it that would be great. If I do not need to do this and just go straight from what I have to DK28 that would be even better. The reason for me wanting to do this is that I have lost most but not all faith in Samsung/Sprint whoever is in charge of the 2.2 update (but that's for another argument not in here). If someone could please help that would be fantastic. Your help is always appreciated with me.
Thanks
Tom

You don't need the pit file just put the tar file under PDA and make sure only auto reboot is checked

I suggest you check the wiki. You will find odin + pit, the proper dk28, & good instructions.

Why go to dk28 when there is ec05 out? Try to flash a rom based on ec05. Also viper synergy is based on eb13 at the moment. Going g to dk28 is not a good idea. It was a test build. To many bugs compared to the builds we have now with the custom kernels

nice i wasnt sure if you could use the old roms on new software
Wiki has all the information that is needed.
Yes u can odin to anything at any time.
Some roms can run on higher modems than there built for (a dk28 rom on ec05 modem).
U really only to odin modems for upgrading, rom zips contain the rest.

Hey Guys,
Iam trying to flash my samsung vibrant to a new ROM. But what if I wont like it and want to go back to an original firmware my phone came with? I tried searching answers but there are multiple ones and I cant understand it so figured I ask here. Can I somehow backup my current version or download it so I can go back to just stock firmware that the phone came out the box?
Thanks for your help
You can make a back up with rom manager or you can learn to odin back to stock. Check the stickies or search for more info.

thanks, tried rom manager but cant get it to backup need to look into odin backup
Odin doesn't do backups, you can flash back your stock Froyo rom using it though.
Search in here how to flash back to stock throthroug odin so u can download the proper ROM

In order to make a backup, you need to be rooted, in order to root you need to have an update.zip file on your phone in order for the file to work you need to be on 2.1 firmware, you can probably find the file stickied in the development section, or q/a section.

Odin is the ticket. It doesn't do a backup - it restores your phone to it's fresh out of the box state. There are 2 files you need, but they're easy to find.
But blaqr0d is going to be right - once you start flashing you will only want to go back to stock if you encounter a problem.
Here's a vid I think is very helpful.
OP, please read my stickies in my signature. You will learn a lot and not waste others time.

I currently own a rooted Samsung Galaxy s 4g (SGH-T959V) running Gingerbread with ClockWorkMod v5.0.2.7 Voodoo lag fix.
I am getting pretty frustrated with the fact that I am running froyo because I can not get most of the apps I want. Plus, the Gingerbread homescreen is so slow and just looks weird. So I want to upgrade to kit kat. But I hear I have to upgrade CWM, and I have no idea how to do that.
If someone could give me the links to all the kernels and steps to do so it would be much appreciated.
Thank You!

There is like...literally no possible way you are running Froyo. It hasn't been developed in like 3 years.
As for links to all KitKat stuff, there is a search feature that will guide you to all that you need.
One problem bro, I really am running froyo and I have searched it but couldn't find anything for my device. Please if you do know where to find it it would save me a TON of time if you would just tell me.

Dud I am so sorry. You are right. I double checked my frimware and it says 2.3.6 so you aee right it is Gingerbread.

Do you know how to flash a one click? If you don't know how to flash one follow lumin's guide, except use the one click .jar file I linked below instead of the one he says to use in his guide. (Note the one click won't contain the bootloaders so skip that step when you get to it)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21953878&postcount=2
I have a one click that's only bhundven's blastoff v2.5 kernel. If you're already on gingerbread this will install the blue CWM v5 for you that will allow you to flash a kitkat rom.

I recommend the cm11 (kitkat 4.4.3) builds Ive been pushing out. You can find them here, make sure you grab the latest ones (they all have dates):
