soooo i was unrooted 1.5 stock hero rom, then the official leak came out so i upgraded to that, is there anyway i can root now?
The RUU police didn't get here in time for this one...
You'll have to wait for a 2.1 exploit to be discovered.

thanks, it's alright though, 2.1 is great. The only things i wish it had were lwp and friendstream, but i can cope. I guess i'll just wait.
So you have 2.1 RUU ? Then you cannot root.
haha yeah i bit the dust,
i don't think i'm missing out on that much seeing as i tried rooting before and it never worked

hrm a new user must have posted and then deleted.
i did try to use the kitchen, it would get up to the point where it would go into recovery mode then just stay stuck at the HTC logo recovery screen, also when i was doing it it says pre-kitchen has identified that you are not running a stock sprint rom, even though i was completely stock 1.5.
My question is if I have a rooted vibrant to I get the OTA Froyo 2.2 upgrade? After the upgrade my phone would probably be unrooted or lockdown again. What about all the stock apps that I took off would that still be off? I'll say yes but I'm not sure. One last question. What about all the software that I need root to run would that be gone or not usable? and if those are paid software I would have to buy those again. Sorry for all the questions, I'm very new to android I got my phone 3 days ago.
Thank You,
Denyson
Ok let see if I could help u out here. 1st of all u dont have to root to get 2.2 it come from t-mobile. If u root u would still get an ota froyo update if u didnt change the kenel, but it will unroot it. 2nd u might have a problem from the update since u take some of the bloatware off. 3rd all the paying app that u pay will b in ur maket if it get reset and u dont have to pay it again. And if root app then u have to root it again or it wouldnt work. Hope that help

dont worry about 2.2. Were never getting it
You got the phone three days ago, you rooted and removed apps?! I'm proud of you =)
I would think that it might be best to go back to stock before you installed the OTA myself.
Definitely do a nandroid backup though....and maybe a titanium backup too..

Thanks tructo that does help. my kernel still the same stock. I'm a bit worry about the stock apps problem part. Also I hope we do get it Froyo 2.2 upgrade. and I hope that we can root that version also.
Would a factory reset put it back to stock? With the stock apps and all? but if we can not root Froyo 2.2. I don't want it. I'll stay where I'm now. I love that one click lag fix, battery could be better but all in all is a great phone.
I dont think u can do factory reset unless u do nandroid bacj up b4 u took it out. But the best thing to do is use odin back to stock. Dont worry about u cant root with 2.2. There is alway a way. The dev for this fone is great and it seem to me that samsung doesnt try to stop us fron rooting. That y it so siple to root it in the first place. And use titanium back up, it save all the app for u
P.s: for the battery problem I use bionix fusion rom in the develope section it great

I need to figure out how to backup roms? I install rom manager but when I was backing up it hang on the linux.ex2 file. I think thats because I have the one click lag fix in place. I need to read more about this. I would love to backup my rom so I can get it back in case something goes wrong.

+1 to what tructo said about the factory backup. You need to have had a nandroid backup already in place to do that.
Make sure you've got the latest ClockworkMod in place and also click on "Problems?" at the bottom of ROM Manager to get the latest BusyBox then try and do a ROM Backup.
As for being able to root 2.2, I'm pretty sure it won't be a problem =)

Thanks guys this is a great resource.
Do you guys think that the battery life is so short because of the one click lag fix? After 8 hours I'm down to 15% battery.
My brother used odin to back to stock and he still did not get the JI6 ota update yet and it was supposed to be rolled out until October 31.

No the battery drain is not because of the oclf. The problem is from the update ji6

i thought about this too.. because before OCLF was available for J16, my battery was even better. now that i have the lag fix.. i cant seem to make the battery last over 20 hours.. tops is 18 hours only sometimes just 14 or 15.. ughh
but im not sure though, it's probably coz i have my screen brightness at 20%??
just wanted to enjoy the screen, it wouldn't be the same experience if it was completely dimmed out.. LOL

This is the first time I would have to agree with smashpunks. We will get Froyo 2.2, when everyone else is already running Gingerbread 2.3.
Samsung truly provided they can't be depended upon.
What was it that the ever so eloquent Bush was trying to say?
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. NO MORE Samsung products for me. Well okay maybe I'll take a sneak peak at the Samsung Galaxy S2/Nexus 2.
Hey Denuding! How did u so quickly learn how to root and get rid of the bloatware? I've had my vibrant for two months and the only thing I knew was installing launcher pro. And do u know if u can remove touchwiz? And make it go to stock android look. I'm a complete nub and I don't yet understand all the terms like ota, rom, flash, kernal and stuff like that. Can u help me out? Thanks!

Starting to think that a well. Even if we get it, they'll be 4 or 5 months behind htc and motorola. Too late and really it's unacceptable.
Is there anyway to revert gingerbread back to froyo until the devs can root it? There has got to be a way. Need my net back

Yes, you can but it's a pain in the butt. Go to this thread and then download the original stock firmware. Make sure USB debugging is turned on also.
To install the file you need to have HTC Sync installed and running. Double-click the file and it should recognize the phone and start installing after some input from you.
If you get a USB error, try booting into the bootloader and installing the exe in the same manner.
I just did this last night because I was in the same situation. It works.
Now you can re-root.

I think everyone that ran the factory upgrade has tried this and you seem to be the only one that it has worked for. It goes through the motions then you get error 140 or 170 i think: Bootloader version error. Please get the correct rom update utility and try again

When I upgraded to the gingerbread stock ROM I used this link and chose the "no hboot included" option. Maybe that saved me.

It's still the same update. Whether I installed it through an OTA update or from the bootloader doesn't matter.
You guys can get into the bootloader right? Take one of those modified "official" updates, rename it to PG06IMG.zip and flash it from the bootloader. Then do my first post and flash to Froyo so you can root again. May be worth a shot.

I posted the same link in the beginning of this thread.
Unless you have an engineering bootloader, like after you rooted, you can only flash an an un modified pg0610.zip from htc. So any one who took an over the air update is SOL on that front. Best hope now is that the evo 3d root can be applied here

Anyway, for some weird reason, pulled it out just to charge the battery, and it requested to do an update (since it was connected via wifi), it tried and got stuck (praise the Lord) and Im just now reading this realizing I almost just GOOFED UP BIG TIME. So, wanted to take the time to thank the OP for this post which made me aware of the fact that I would be SOL if I had've upgrade and to prevent me from upgrading. THANKS!!!

I was able to downgrade from a stock 2.3.3 GB 2.16 Hboot S-ON to 2.2 Froyo 2.10 Hboot S-Off. The PC36IMG.zip does wipe the phone but... where should I upload it to for everyone to test?
I am going to test a rooted stock rom next. Here is the ROM I am testing w/ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133379 (no dice on odexed. gonna try de-odexed next)
Here is the link to image: (still uploading to multiupload)
Dropbox: http://db.tt/iEGT0Ge
**WARNING** We are still getting to the bottom of why this worked for me. Do not flash this without knowing what you are doing. You can brick your phone if things go badly.
You can upload it to a dropbox, megaupload, ect. Though you are going to need to provide in detail what you did, how you came across it, and what's going to happen, because people are gona be skeptical.

ok ...a free hosting site would do, link it back here, but after soooo many people trolling here recently i am....skeptical to believe this.....but whas so special about this pcimg then? did YOU make it? your post is very vague about it

also, correct me if im wrong, unless this pcimg somehow has been embedded with htcs keys , i really dont see how it can throw our 2.3.3 s-on phones into S-off past the bootloader, since it simply will not install anything any other way, im not holding my breath much but i hope im wrong
so I came across it on the forums first night I got the EVO back from Sprint w 2.3.3 on the system. I dont recall the thread unfortunetely because I sorta gave up on the idea. Basically I was going to attempt a downgrade but everyone was saying it wouldnt work etc. So I just found it on the memory card and ran it. The only reason I even remembered it was on there was when I went to check which bootloader I had.. 2.16 S-ON. I thought damn it, then the fastboot found an image. I thought sure why not couldnt hurt... It is the full RUU one where everything is wiped and the phone reboots in the middle. Sure enough it came back w 2.10 hboot S-off! No need to take my word for it, please verify. I dont know why it worked other then it has. Still havent been able to flash any ROMs just yet.
so did i. thats why i posted. please verify.

Again, this has been discussed at least 50 times in the last month. You cannot downgrade without root. And you cannot root 2.3 yet.
