Help me get a Stable Non Sense setup actually work - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hey guys.. I've been running DarkStone for a while now, it ran perfect in most ways. Other than Very frequent Data Dropouts and some screen freezing occasionally. Other than that. it was perfect.
Would I be able to run DarkStone's Latest, and update the kernel to Hastarin's 8.5.1 oldcam or whatever? cuz from what I understand Hastarin's latest kernel has fixed data dropout's as well as screen freezing issues.
I'm now running BiffMod 1.3.1 and it's stock 2.2.1 with CM6.1 RC2 added to it. It would be ABSOLUTELY perfect for what I want, but I'm having the robot voice, and some sound issues like music doesn't sound right. And I can't dial any numbers. the thing freezes... I don't know a lot about Android on the HD2, and how to change all the kernels and all that.
Basically I want a Non Sense Build with some CM6 included and have it run stable.. Thats what I'm looking for. DarkStone was almost perfect.

Have you tried HD2ONE? Honestly I've tried several CM6 builds and they generally are very stable. Your issue might be deeper than the builds, I have heard people have lots of problems with class 10 cards.

I'm using phiredrops Cm6 build with the 8.5.1 old can kernel... I have no issues.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App

is there any release that have fixed the screen freezes. thats the only thing that bothers me much... at times when there is a call, the screen does not lighten up and u seem there isnt any call if mobile is on mute

Yes guys...
I got DarkStone and put Hastarin's 8.5.1 oldcam, and his newest HaRet that all come in his kernel download into the Darkstone.. so far BUTTER smooth
This might just be what I needed. It's sound is great, not a single screen freeze or data dropout since last night.. This is perfect! oh and I'm using the stock 16GB class 2 that came with the HD2. but I do have a Wintec 16GB class 10 coming tomorrow I'll replace it with

phone double posted. sorry

Best Cyanogen Mod Based (non-sense) Build?

I don't much care for Sense, as do allot of users, which is I'm sure why there's an increase in CM based android builds.
I haven't tested all of these builds yet, but I'm downloading them now. I know the original ShubCRAFT works great, but hasn't been updated in a while, leading to Warrenb to re-cook it to add the new kernel with Wifi Tethering support, amongst other things.
I've been using for about a week now, the HyperDroid build, which has been amazing, though I've gotten occasional touchscreen freezes, causing reboots. But I can confirm data to work amazingly, in addition to the wifi tethering.
ShubCRAFT 1.5 (RMNET/PPP)
Warrenb's Re-Build of ShubCRAFT 1.5 version 1.2a (RMNET/PPP) - Wifi Tethering
Bansters 1.2a - Wifi tethering
HyperDroid 1.1 - Wifi Tethering
Post your experience with the various non-sense based CM builds, along with any builds I might have missed.
There is allot of general discussion on each individual build, but as each build changes so much from day to day, especially with kernel changes, it's hard to determine which is currently the best and most stable build for HD2. I personally prefer the CM builds as they have the additional settings (long press app number, and mostly the status bar tweaks with the battery/dBm indicator without having to install any additional apps or have them in the background running, taking up bar space with additional batteries).
shubCRAFT is my favorite. I've tried the others, but it feels most like stock CM6 to me and everything just works. I do wish there were other builds based on the nightly CM builds... But oh well!
Dan
For whatever reason I stick with shubcraft. Maybe its a loyalty thing but I feel like Im missing something whenever I am on a different rom. Also aslong as I dont tinker everything works out rather well I actually am starting to feel I have a real android phone and not just a port.

I agree, it feels just like my nexus one.
I just downloaded Bangsters.....
USB Mass Storage/Tethering/Hotspot!!
I'd say it has the most features to date of all the builds.
But I wonder if the USB Mass Storage is working correctly 100%?
I know in other builds it's been disabled because of data corruption....
Did they just turn it back on or was that issue resolved?
Bangsters the best looking but shubcraft has the killer battery life using Energy ROM so far.
REVISION: Hyperdroid is becoming my personal favorite!
I'm using bangsters and gotta say I'm never going back to sense.

Shubcraft for sure.
I've tried them all, and Shubcraft is the most stable one out there (at least for me!) . Next to that, i took my phone from the charger yesterday morning and i still have 51 percent left (with SetCPU).
That is with internet, messaging, theming and email every now and then
Definitely Shubcraft, many congrats and thanks to its developers.
Htcclays SuperHD2
I like shubCRAFT but then i recently switched to Hyperdroid, and so far? I LOVE IT!
ive tried them all and for me me, its definitely hyperdroid!
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Well as far as builds go htcclays 1.2 is flawless no sod slow wake ups and everything works
Sent from my Htcclay's SuperHD2 using XDA App
Htcclay all the way... no freezes, great battery life. Its my day to day is now.
Sent from my Htcclay's SuperHD2 using XDA App
Haven't tried the others, but hyperdroid v1.1 was good (no crashes, and a very few problems) and now the v 1.2 is even better, high frame rate and very fluid (1845 in quadrant)
I voted shubcraft because I've been using it daily since 1.4.
I just last night tried out hyperdroid and bangsters. Both of the used the really high res look which I like. I ended up liking bangsters more because launcherpro and adw were built in. Performance seemed about equal.
Its hard to give a preference if you just try them out like I did. They need long term use for a better evaluation. I wish one build was clearly superior to make this decision easier.
Stuck with bangsters as shubcraft hasn't been updated in a while.
mccm. good loking.
Switched to JDMS since shubcraft & hyperdroid are discontinued, and it's the best I've found thus far.
Been using Bangsters 1.5 and have been happy with it, even have it down to 0-3ma during standby. He's been slow to update lately though, as he had some IRL things goin on.
I was going to try Shubcraft, but then noticed it got discontinued, and didn't notice WarrenB's version, so I'll give that a try instead.
I did have some issues when transfering a large file (+500mb) to the card while the phone was running, and the system just didn't want to work right until I deleted that file, so not sure if the usb mass storage is working 100%. Perhaps there's a file size limit for "working".
HyperDroid is the first ROM that works stable, and I can actually use for more than a few hours.
Thus my vote is for HyperDroid.

[Q] Is there a build with no dropped 3G, no SOD and no touchscreen pauses?

Is there a build with no dropped 3G, no SOD and no touchscreen pauses?
I absolutely love Mattc's build and all the effort everyone has put into them, especially the kernel devs. I think it's incredible these work as well as they do and I'm using the mattc Evo Leo version as my every day OS....
I ask this question because mattc Leo + Froyo with Sense seems to have the screen pause and occasional SOD. I switched to the new mattc's EvoLeo which fixed the pause and SOD completely, but now my 3G dropps randomely. Usually when I'm using it heavily, it drops once every 15 minutes or so, but I've gone hourse without a drop as well..... Anyhow, I was just hoping there was a build, that fixes these or a tweak or kernal replacement that fixes these...
Also, The Evo Leo build is so stable that I don't see any reason why you would bother booting from NAND. Boot once from Windows Mobile and stay in Android as long as you want.... Its nice to, at least, have the option to boot WM... Maybe there are other reasons to put Android on the NAND?
Thanks,

lol not yet so far
yes there is more infor here
I've been using the following setup and it works very well for daily use (no SOD etc)
mdeejay Froyo Sense v. 2.2 with kernel from hastarin, v4.1
radio 2.14.50.04
winrom artemis 34.5 (not that i think it matters)
hspl3
Just be careful how you use SetCPU/ATK Froyo and other applications that interfere with the OS since this isn't a device with Android at it's core.
Oh, as for SetCPU, I set 384MHz min/max, userspace, while screen is off and I get ~5-6 mAh consumption while screen is in standby with WiFi off and about 60mAh with it on. I know it's not the lowest freq but it should be a good trade-off since my phone wakes up very fast.
OMG there totally is! I can't believe you haven't found that post! I also can't believe all of these other devs haven't found that post and copied the solution too! Lucky me that I found this next to the pot of gold at the end of this rainbow sitting next too Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny.
I have one!
Mdeejay 3.1 Desire HD
Nothing to say....smooth and fast....no drops on 3G or everything else.
the only issue is the camera.
With everyone using a different WinMo ROM, radio, hspl (maybe), and even some hardware differences, it's impossible to say.
I just played with different builds until I found one that works for me. Currently running HyperDroid 1.6
Phiredrop Skinny EVO has been perfect!
I used the beta version for days with no problems and now have the 1.1 version and it is perfecto!

u got a link to this build?
i use hyperdroid 1.5 stockified is almost perfect, i have minimal issues. the only major for me is that it uses rmnet instead of ppp. ppplease?
RmNet builds work for practically everybody with no dropped connections. Touchscreen pauses have not been completely eliminated yet, but they can be almost completely eliminated in regular use by either disabling the G-Sensor, or disabling home-screen orientation through ADWLauncher or LauncherPro.
PPP builds still drop connections for many people. A common workaround is to enable/disable airplane mode to soft-reset the connection.
EVO-based kernels use PPP. Nexus-One kernels use RmNet. Therefore, to avoid dropped mobile connections, use any Nexus-One based build.
Since you like MattC's builds, the last build of his that was RmNet based was 1.7. If you don't have a copy of it saved, you can download it here: (RapidShare link) http://rapidshare.com/files/416256755/mattcfroyosense1.7rmnet.zip
Personally, I am using HyperDroid 1.6 This build uses RmNet and is quite reliable. I've used it with Radios 2.12 and 2.14, with the VBN WM Rom, and have not experienced any SoDs, dropped 3g, or touchscreen freezes. Links are still on the front page of this forum.
Bangster v1.4 (self-modified)
#hastarin r6 kernel
#vbndroid winmo rom
#2.14 radio with hspl3
#stock 16g sdcard formatted with 32k cluster size
RESULT
#only 3mA batery usage during standby with wifi off!!
#great data speed and no dropped connection using PPP.
#no SOD, robot voice touchscreen freezes whatsoever.
#no issues with bluetooth
#802.11n Wifi with hastarin r6 kernel
#great graphic performance with darkstones graphic tweaks(included in hastarin kernel)
Hope this helps.

Using Radio 2.12
Been using for more than a week and no SOD, 3G works fine.
I did a lot of trial & error with different WM Roms and Android builds and this has been the most stable choice for me.
You may wanna play with this one too:
# [BUILD][29.09.2010][FroyoStone Sense - V3.1][Kernel: darkstone]
darkstone's in the same league as mattc so this may turn out to be one of the perfect ones hopefully!.
Installed it over mattc leoevo 1.1 (due to data issues) and been running it with no issues so far..btw i have only tested data both wifi and cellular n some other stuff therefore the rest will still have to be checked out.
I second the phiremod build, definitely is a daily rom for me. I used to get SODs from every rom until I started using his.
I have very good usage with MIUI beta4 and mdeejay 1.5evo . These 2 roms are close to perfect , no screen freeze, no drop 3G, no touch screen issues, no sod
I am on stock rom 1.66 asian rom and radio 2.12
Of these 2 miui is best and fantastic fast very stable . Only issue is the ipone like ui. It's additional features is way ahead of htc desire hd new sense which I tested too.
Change Radio and HSPL

I've been using this build too. It's BEAUTIFULLY smooth and works just fine.
Also, I believe (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) the SOD's have more to do with radio and hspl than anything. I was using a 2.08 radio and hspl 2 and I was getting SOD all of the time. As soon as I upgraded to 2.12 radio (and now 2.14) as well as hspl3 I have not had SOD once. During this process I was using the same Android and WM builds, so it seems it was the radio and hspl.
Im new to all this and still experimenting.
So far Hyperdroid 1.6 is doing the best job for me. I have had a few issues with 3G here and there, And getting this Touchscreen freeze problem a couple of times a day..
I am running
Latest Chuckyrom
Radio 2.14
8gb Sandisk Class 6 SDcard formatted 32kb cluster size
I am wondering how much influence windows mobile rom has on these android builds? I am happy with hyperdroid 1.6, without going rom flash crazy if someone could recommend a base windows mobile that plays well with this I will give it a whirl.

Yeah, I'm with pack21 on this build - it's been great on my combo (see sig'), but I do however suffer from occasional data drops. It's great for daily use otherwise!
As for a link, that's a bit tricky seeing as the thread containing it was 'lost' when xda suffered it's server issues the other day. It was only up for about 24 hours, and I've not seen a link for it reproduced since. It would be worth your while searching for it though - I think you'll find it would be worth the hassle!
Thanks everyone (except maybe robkoehler) for your very helpful feedback. I was wondering if maybe some people had gotten a version of mattc to work without screen pauses or data drops, but it sounds that hasn't really happened.
I hope I can find Mdeejay 3.1 Desire HD because it sounds like thats a good one to try....
I've been using HSPL2, do you guys really think I'd have better luck with HSPL3? I just hate to mess with HSPL because ... it seems like the most risky thing we have to do to our phones...
I really appreciate the advice and I'll continue to monitor this thread for any more feedback.

[Q] Need recommendations for Sense and Cyan based builds

So I desperately miss Hyperdroid and Shubcraft for their Sense and Cyanogen builds but I need more stable builds with newer updates on stability, battery drain, wi-fi, LED, GPS, etc. What builds do you find to be the most complete to date and which kernels and tweaks are you all using?
I'm not looking for perfection or a lot of detail, I just don't have a lot of time to test all of the different builds lately with my schedule and was hoping for some suggestions. For now it looks like HD2ONE for Cyanogen based and MDJ for Sense based seem to be the most complete but I keep running into little snags here or there.
Anyone have any recommendations? I know they are all great and I love working with all the different builds. Just wondering what seems to be the magic combination of build + kernel + tweaks (if any) that you have found. I'll figure out the rest.
Thank you for any input you can provide.
So here's what I'm thinking would work for me
Non-Sense
NexusHD2-FRG83D V1.7 PPP with Hastarin 8.5.1
Sense
MDJ Froyo HD 4.3 with included MDJ S7.5HD
Cyanogen Based
HD2ONE 0.3.3 PPP with Hastarin 8.5.1
Guess these 3 seem to be the best for what I'm looking for. I am not sure what the best kernels are for each but I'll keep messing with them. Anyone have any suggestions on what I may experience that I should know about or why I should use the oldcam vs regular, which ones really need to be OC'd or whatever?
Thanks and sorry for being so vague. I wish I had more time to mess with this and I just got spoiled with Hyperdroid and Shubcraft till they fled the scene to go work on improving their minds and making a difference in this world with their talents instead of working on Android builds all day. How selfish! /s
Non Sense: JDMS 1.6
Fastest build i've ever used and stable too, just try not to customize it much. :3
Sense: Mdeejay froyoHD 4.3
Well it's not the best, i'd prefer his revolution build over it cuz it's faster, but since mdeejay hasn't updated that build in a month and seems more focused on his hd build, the froyoHD will get better over time
Cyan: HyperDroid
It's the best cyanogen mod i've ever used, but it hasn't been update in a month so iunno.
Overall i prefer the JDMS 1.6 build best, stable and fast (quadrant score of 2300+ for me without overclocking the cpu). I'm having some problems with music skipping on it and it turning on party shuffling and itself randomly at time, but i suspect it's the winmo rom causing the problems since windows media player pops up randomly too when i use the winmo rom.

Thank you for the response. I know this is like saying "what's the best flavor of ice cream out there?" But we watch the Food Network for the same reasons. We sometimes just look for ideas.
So yes, I liked JDMS a lot but I just noticed the nightly builds of HD2ONE and it is rocking so I'm going to stick with that over JDMS or Hyperdroid. I'm pegging 1900s in quadrant and it seems like everything is working. I'll need to spin it for a day to make sure. I like it enough that I'm not going to use NexusHD as my daily any longer but of course I will still mess around with it as it's a very nice build. I would like to find MDJs CM nightly's wherever they are.
So I totally agree with MDJ4.3 for my sense build. I had to install setcpu and rock it all the way up to get the same quadrant scores but it was needed as it was a little laggy otherwise. Everything seems great in there too. I think the bluetooth audio controls aren't working in it if I'm not mistaken but I can deal without that... again, will spin it for a day or two.
So yeah, I hope that helps anyone else. I know the best method is just trying all of them out and seeing what happens. I'm sure there are others that may sway me but everyone here is so awesome that I'm sure it will only get better... as soon as Gingerbread drops, I'll be messing around with new ones again. Love this phone until some true innovative phones drop, I'm wicked happy as always.
Thanks again!
how about between Darkstone/MCCM FroyoSense 3.4 or MDJ Sense 2.4 as sense builds?
personally I havent tried the non sense and cyan.
i also have tried MIUI builds (Iphone interface) which still is in development however very fast and very responsive... just that I didnt want my HD2 to look like an Iphone, which defeats its whole point

[Q] Best Android build like FroyoSense

I verry liked the FroyoSense build from Darkstone en later MCCM. But there was a conflict between MCCM and ???..
But wich Android build is almost the same as the FroyoSense build? And also verry good too use?
I'm finding Evo Carbon Remix V0.5 Features by motoman234 to be very stable and bug-free. I've only had BSOD a couple of times and I'm able to use it on a daily basis. Here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=839410
sooo... what's wrong with froyostone 3.2 then? I use it on a daily basis and it's rock solid, great batt life and quite fast too. the only thing I change is kernel, every time hastarin give us something new... everything works.... I don't really get it.

I can't speak for anyone else, but the EVO build is the only one I've used so far that doesn't constantly freeze up on me. Granted, I haven't messed around much with changing just the kernel which may have minimized the BSOD problems. I also prefer the very polished look of this build and it's enhanced animations, ect. Just personal preference.
yeah... I was reffering really to op's post. if he liked froyostone, then why fix what's working ok?
Its been awhile since I used froyostone but it was an excellent build as darkstone is awesome. I currently use mdj froyo HD 4.4 for my daily sense build. It can seem laggy but responds well to a 422/1500 setcpu setting. Up to you but can't find a flaw about it. Good luck

The most stable Android build? Less bugs, not laggy?

Hey all,
i wanted to know which build you prefer and which build the most stable one is. im searching for a version with less bugs. i want a non laggy version. can somebody help?
the ram versions are far away from being stable right?
what about the hd versions? have they much bugs?
I love to know this too. I want stable and not care much of nice animation. i think you will get different answer because i don't think anyone know what the best out there. You will have to try different one to see which one work for you best. Every single one out there will the different issue you might run into? The good thing are alot of developer actively working on these rom for FREE. That really nice of them. I really appreciate all the hard work.
The common response to this question is that it's really about personal preference at this point. There may be some small features not working in each build but I can't say that any of them have any particular major flaws unless it's a "work in progress" build like Gingerbread MyTouch4G or whatever. I recommend bookmarking this http://android.hd2roms.com/ and get a better idea of the different Roms and see which are staying updated or w/e. I like to have 2 types of Roms, a Stock-like or Cyanogen-based and a Sense-themed. Of these types, I have found the following to be particularly good for me:
- Cyanogen-based: HD2ONE (all though he is not developing any longer, this one should be solid for a long time.. my personal favorite) - JDMS (could easily replace HD2ONE for me if JDMS stays in the game and keeps new Cyanogen builds rotating in and doing the testing\tweaking for us)
- Sense-themed: MDJ Froyo HD (I'm most impressed with MDJ's commitment to keeping his roms up to date. Sense based are often bulky so I have to overclock them a tad but MDJ compensates by undervolting nicely)
- Stock-like: Darkstone SuperRam (I may be biased for Darkstone's builds but this one loads super quick) - NexusHD2 (Solid and Slick... nothing wrong with this one)
- Experimental: MDJ Gingerbread (Really looking forward to the last couple things to get ironed out on this build)
So yeah, there are 6 right there that I use. Which one I use the most is kinda hard to say. I currently bounce between HD2ONE and MDJ FroyoHD. I use Excellar boot loader and just customize my Rom names and just reboot in each and play/test them all for speed/stability/functionality at my leisure. I just load up my card like this and figure out what works for me the most:
/HD2ONE
/MDJFroyoHD
/SuperRAM
/JDMS
/NexusHD2
Bottom-Line... all of them are excellent, have fun and try each on. And don't be afraid to try something new. A lot of new guys are trying to get their stuff out there for us and need testers and feedback to help them perfect it. Sorry for being long winded, there really is no simple answer. They are all good!
For me its MDJ Revolution HD v.1.2 with hastarin 8.6 kernel
Its apsolutly fast, stable and good looking. I have tried almoust all versions and this one is definitly winner for me.
I vote for option A - Try them all and see which one you like best.
Mdeejay Sense Clean 2.3 build as posted in Mdeejay thread by Hastarin. It has Hastarin kernel 8.53b included but you can update to 8.6. It's totally stable and I haven't found anything to replace it.
