I have to choose either epic or evo tomorrow, and would like the epic cause of the screen quality and the video quality.. but the evo has sense and i simply cant live without it..my question is would there anytime soon be a sense port to the epic? cause i would love to have the best of both worlds.. i dont want no alternative widgets ect..i want sense on that amazin amoled screen...
If I can remember there was a team of people trying to port it, but haven't heard from then in awhile

It's being worked on right now. by 2 devs, 2 good devs, who will most likely have it done a few days after the official froyo release.
Sense? Are you serious? Just go get an EVO cause if your buying an Epic to put Sense on it you could be waiting forever. And also the Epic is to nice a phone to ruin it with Sense.

get the EVO, we don't need another "krazie" in here posting in the wrong section.
OP reported as belonging in the general section.
If you want Sense, just get an Evo. No port will function 100% like official Sense from HTC. Personally, I hate all these customized launchers from manufacturers (Sense, Touchwiz, etc.) as they're slow and laggy, and I just use LauncherPro (ADW is great as well).

Fck sense I had it on mts3gs and its nothing special, how about porting Xperia X10 Rachel or Acer Breeze ui they look way better and offer way more functionality,i even like our Epic's Twiz better than sence.
Yeahh i was just trying to get the thread over with. i hate stupid questoins
I thought I would miss sense when coming from the touch pro 2 to the epic. Boy was I wrong.. sense is so slow in comparison to the eic running launcher pro or adw.. sense has sme cool features but nothing that you can't download or add with launcher pro.. but if you really want 100% sense go with the evo.. I'm sure either way you won't be dissapointed

I personaly like sense and hate touchwiz however owning both an evo (wife) and epic (myself) I can tell you performance/battery/screen...etc wise the epic is a better phone. I miss sense as well but nothing you can't be without. Get the epic!
thanks to everybody who gave me positive feedback. to all the rude people making smart comments, i would like to cuss you guys out but im going to be an adult about the situation. with that being said, Im going to get the evo..simply because I believe the camera will be modded by developers..i have seen the youtube videos and all and have been blown away by the epics quality as far as audio and video camera..but i simply cant live without sense..the calender and peep widget and email widget have me in love

What you like isn't really relevant to the OP.
Check out this thread and the video. Had the guy fooled into thinking it's SenseUI but it's actually just a theme and widgets. Take a quick look at it, you might just find it suites your taste.
+1 for adw
Sense is aright, but really....on the epic...
I hate TW myself. So went with adw and never looked back! My roomie has adw on his evo and would never go back to sense.

+1 to the Launcherpro comment. The widgets are just as nice, if not better because of the better speed.
I don't believe there is a email widget though... the Samsung email application is simple enough and handles emails like a dream though, the exchange calendars sync right up to, AND the launcherpro widget can pull in everything even from the Samsung calendar app. It's fairly nice.
It's really all about personal preference, I'd pick based on the pros and cons of each that aren't software related, because even if the official sense never makes it to the epic there are alternatives that will do the same thing, look just as good, and be faster and easier on the battery. At the heart of Android lies Linux.. and like anything Linux you can customize to your hearts content.
The Epic trounces the Evo in terms of performance, the evo has a bigger screen but the epics is higher quality, battery life is better on the epic, the evo gets faster updates but the epic in theory might get them longer with the superior hardware, the epic has a pretty good hardware keyboard the evo has an awesome touch screen keyboard (which can be installed on the epic), epic 3D performance is outstanding while the Evo's is so-so but not bad, the evo's build quality seems better and the epic feels less solid due to its keyboard slider (you will have that tiny tiny amount of play in the screen even closed like most slider phones have). List goes on and on. You can't go wrong with either really.
Just watched that video of "pseudo sense" hilarious.....
you can get anything you want, to look like anything you want for android. You just gotta be persistent. If you like the Hardware of the Epic, go with the epic. You might get tired of Sense.
I have the Epic and the Evo.. Rocked the Evo for a week and a half and went back to the Epic. Just better quality screen and got bored of Sense.
I been using Go Launcher on the epic and I like it better than Launcher Pro may wanna try it out its free and uses less memory.

Touch wiz 3.0 is looking great. Its getting very good reviews. I don't have any experience with earlier versions though.
Been big fan off sense long time, and last samsung i did not like the Touchwiz, but now on Sgs with 3.0 i like it quite alot, and was fast as hell in begining but have slow down a litle bit now after a week use with more apps and stuff. But other then that it looks very nice and working great. With a task killer it helps speed it upp tho
Sounds like a bunch of baseless garbage. TouchWiz 3.0 looks extremely nice.
Again, ths isnt touchwiz 2, its touchwiz 3. Touchwiz 3 is fine and so far I havent seen one person or review who have said they dont like it, not one.

I think it's fine! the app menu is very good. The only problem are the lack of a few widgets compared to sense. But they can be produced or downloaded from the market.
I'll give it a shot I guess. Someone's porting it to the Nexus, so I'll try it there. Obviously we need at least 2.2 though.
I guess I just don't trust Samsung after the Behold 2 debacle.

I am a HUGE fan of TouchWiz 3.0! TouchWiz sucked really bad on my i8910, but I gave touchwiz a try on the SGS and it's a great introduction to Android.
It basically marries some of the good features of the iphone with Android. I like it.
youtube.com/watch?v=xAqZ5Hk96QY&feature=player_embedded
LOOKS BAD ASS! best UI ive seen on any android phone.
People are so quick to bash Touchwiz 3.0 without even knowing what it is.
Its a completely different beast from Touchwiz 2.0.
Id take it over Sense UI, ive had Sense for over a hero on my HTC Hero.
That look awesome, i wonder where is this build came from.
Maybe some one could get hold so we can try it too.
Its a Froyo and doesn't look like a same UI we are using now on Éclair.
Yeah they somehow got the samsung widgets to work, with launcherpro, it looks fantastic though, and from the video, galaxy is handling it like a champ. that GPU does wonders for the live wallpaper.
plus im a big music head, Samsungs music player is far superior to any other music player available on android.
My bad i thought its a Froyo
Id also love to know how he is running a launcher over touchwiz....looks awesome.
you just download launcherpro off the market place....
people are all stressing about this touchwiz 3.0 and saying they dont want the galaxy because of the touchwiz....
you can easily replace it....i dunno what the big deal is about it.
Plus touchwiz adds a lotta other cool features besides the home.
but i heard running a launcher stops touchwiz from running? or was i mis informed?
Now I know they don't have 4G but everything works with Sense. Can we get this ported?

Is it really nessecary? Ava-FroyoV2 already has Sense and everything but BT and 4G working. I would expect it to be more work to port this than just have Ava fix BT and have basically the same.
Given the similarities between the Evo and Inc, the 2.2 update should be right around the corner. Also remember that Verizon is notorious for long testing before a software update.
Having said that, I'm sure a Dev will figure out a way to port this over.
But we already have CyanogenMod with everything but 4G working.

The advantage of using the Incredible's 2.2 over the current 2.2 Sense that we have is that it will work better with what we have. The other one we have is for the Desire. So, for instance, the camera may work better. If it has a newer kernel we may be able to use that, etc. So, yeah, I'd say it would be worth porting over. Either way, I'm sticking with CM6 as I have missed Cyanogen since my days with the G1.
Well I suppose we'll have to wait again for the new kernel's source code, hopefully it doesn't take as long this time.
There is more issues with that rom then those listed, for example exchange doesn't setup correctly

I would like to see a port of it. I like the Stock look with the speed under the hood.
Is it an unpopular opinion to actually like SenseUI around here? I vastly prefer Sense over the stock UI, TouchWiz and MotoBlur.
Unfortunately, since CyanogenMod has just about everything working, the only real improvements for the EVO that could be pulled out of the Droid Incredible's code is the FM radio, assuming they're even the same chip(which, without doing some research, I highly doubt).
From what I have seen and played with Sense is pretty nice, but I really like the look/feel of ADW.Launcher and Stock apps myself.
To each their own.
Although an official HTC Release of 2.2 would be interesting to see performance wise.
I like sense as well but I am not married to it, but I don't see why all the hate

Sense has some really good apps like music and email. Don't argue with me about music app. It is by far the smoothest and streamed lined music player for android. Even froyo music is a piece of crap. Google really need to work on the music players for Android. iPhone and.most likely the Zune based Windows Mobile 7 music player are/will be vastly superior.

Sense isn't bad, but it's not as useful for me. There are maybe one or two widgets that I'd like to have, but with all the other bulkiness it's not worth it. Like the 3 button dock. I'd much rather have the ADW where I can put 4 shortcuts plus the drawer. Once I tried CM6, I don't think I can go back to Sense.
It's all about preference.
The only thing I liked about Sense was the Mail/Exchange app. At least it gave me the option to select and delete multiple items at a time. With the current e-mail app (Froyo) i have to "tick" each e-mail, kinda tedious when you have over a hundren e-mails you want to delete at a time.
I don't plan on flashing a 2.2 rom until I know 4g works. I'd rather be able to use the service I'm paying for.

Sense is just a pretty pointless bit of eyecandy that vastly slows down updates received by HTC phones. It is completely tangled up in the OS, and it just slows things down and provides very limited customization due to its closed-source nature. AOSP Android is extremely fast and smooth, and you are free to add all of the eyecandy and additional apps you want.

While I do agree with you, I really wish there were Marketplace equivalents of some of the HTC widgets (Email, Bookmarks, and NewsReader in particular). Pure Messenger is the closest I've found to the HTC email widget but after spending an inordinate amount of time trying to get it set up the way I like, I gave up. And, don't get me started on my K9/Exchange integration issues.
And, I'm a geek! I can only imagine the frustration the average non-techie, Android owner without a Sense phone goes through.

Well final-damn-ly, somebody without their head stuck up their ass realizes this lol. But really, they did a good job with the widgets and to me are worth more than the hassles i have to put up with. And don't forget copy/paste; stock google's is the most godawful take on copypasta i've ever seen. While I've gotten used to launcher pro plus, returning back to sense would definitely be a welcome home for me.
I agree that Sense, although a resource hog, has the best widgets. Just wish I could use wiimote.

I am ready to root my Epic. Not sure where to begin though. Any suggestions? I have been using the Evo and I really love it. My best phone hands down prior to getting the Epic. I don't know if it is because it is newer, but I want to make the Epic my primary device.I like the Sense UI though(love those scrollable widgets). If I root the Epic will I be able to customize it and give it a more of a Sense feel that I am used to? Also, I know it is personal preference regarding which phone you use, especially with Android, but is there anything other than Sense (and Froyo for now) that I will lose going with the Epic over the Evo?
Thanks guys
I am new to this site, but I hear all the time about the cool stuff you guys do. So, I came here to get my hands dirty and really get into this thing called Android.
Well, I may not know much since I am new to Android, but I did get some hands on with The Epic and I didn't really like it. ( I own a Evo ) What I didn't like from the Epic was the UI. For me HTC Sense is way better. Aside from that, the Epic does not support FLASH at the moment. One of the other things you will miss out is the 8MP camera on the Evo. I don't know about you but I take a lot of pictures and that matters to me. Other than that I can't really think of anything else.
Well i came from the hero which has sense, and my dad has the evo, so i am really familiar with sense ui. Sense ui is very visually appealing and i liked it very much. You can get a lot of the look and feel of sense by using beautiful widgets, which has the htc flip clock and weather animations. If u want sense ui lock screen get widget locker. Some great things about touchwiz are that u can toggle 4g wifi bluetooth from the notification pull down. Launcher pro plus has some sense style scrollable widgets as well. if u wanna see what my epic looks like with these apps u can see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=771597&page=3 and scroll to my post. Try out the epic and hopefully u will like it, roms are coming soon too.
Hey,
Thanks for replying. I hear what you are saying. And it is really a tough decision. I would keep both and then switch it up every now and then. I just paid for the Epic, it only cost me 200 at Best buy, but I also just bought the 360 Halo Reach Edition, so I have to get some of that back somewhere.I will miss Sense and Froyo, but hopefully, one day soon the Epic will get Froyo. As far as the pictures go, I am finding that I am becoming preferable to the Epic's camera over the Evo, especially for video recording.
yes I love those toggles in the notification bar. Personally, I don't mind Touchwiz all that much. Yea, iot is coloirful and everything, but they have some real good things regarding user interface going on there. If I can get some of those scollable widgets, like sense's news widget, the weather/clock widget with animation, I would be good. What about root? Are there some good ROM's out there for the Epic, that will make it worth the risk?
Thanks guys
That' s sweet. Is that the Epic?
After using HTC Magic for 1.5 years I'm seriously considering getting a new phone. My two main options are Nexus S and DHD.
How are your phones treating you guys? Would you recommend going with a DHD or the S?
Sent from my Gingerbread on Sapphire using Tapatalk
You asking this in the Desire HD forum, what kind of answer do you expect?
Go with the Desire HD of course lol
I've thought about grabbing a nexus but there it's just too little going on in their development thread to make me want to. I'm wondering if, in these challenging economic times, a lot of devs are sticking with the nexus one. After all the nexus s is only a small jump ahead in spec.
The worst thing about the nexus s is that there are no sense roms. I've come to the conclusion that sense is just better. I mean vanilla aosp doesn't even include a fm radio and this is 2011. What are you thinking Google?
Someone swyped my idea.
By using default Sense as your launcher you gain two things:
1. HTC Widgets
2. General integrity with your phone UI
Main downsides of Sense:
1. Application space in home screen dock, you cannot add any application to Sense dock
2. Missing eye candy: e.g. home screen transition effects
3. General smoothness. Sense is actually very unsmooth. You might not realize this if you haven't used LauncherPro, which is the smoothest launcher at the moment
Only real thing I lose by not using Sense are HTC widgets. But I've found a corresponding replacement for every HTC widget I want. Even the lovely "Sync All" widget.
So basically if you look at the pros and cons of Sense UI, it really makes me laugh when people say "Sense just makes sense"

Funny you say that. I find launcher pro to be slow and a bit buggy at times. Everytime I have flashed a aosp rom, I have always gone back to stock HTC sense. I find it better and has a nice UI and integration.
As for the question, having asked in the desire HD forum, your going to get a biuased lean towards the desire hd of course. Having said that desire HD ftw .
A few weeks ago I was due an upgrade so was in a similar position - DHD, Nexus S or Galaxy S. On paper each one had things I liked so I did a few weeks worth of reading reviews, checking out videos, checking them out in a shop, looking at development progress on XDA etc.
In the end I went for the DHD, mainly down to:
1/ Build quality. HTC build some very nice phones, the DHD being no exception. It has a nice weight to it and feels like the expensive piece of equipment that it is. The SGS and Nexus S on the otherhand, felt like cheap iPhone copies. Really quite plasticy and flimsy looking.
2/ Sense UI. It's what sold me on HTC phones in the 1st place and I love how it integrates with the phone. I've always dabbled with other ROMs and launchers but in the end I'm back on Sense. It's not perfect but using a custom ROM like Android Revolution HD you can get it super smooth and if transition animations are your thing then you can add those too... along with most other mods and customisations.
3/ RFS, GPS issues and lag. Go check the SGS section for details.
4/ Samsung seem to release phones and then stop supporting them, whereas HTC seem to be a little bit better at this.
That's probably as unbiased as I can be... so go buy a DHD and well see you back here soon
The NS has got week specs..... its just a N1 with a samoled screen and a SGS inside lol

Haha... no worries, it's easily done.
If I had a £1 for every post I've misread I could buy us all a new DHD
Tbh Sense was the thing that got me sold on HTC phones in the beginning, now after 3 different HTC phones and more experience with flashin and other apps I defenatly cant say i have not found any better launcher app than ADW EX, its so many custom ways to use it, including expanding number of apps on homescreen, dock layout of choice etc, the best is if you get yourself Beautiful widgets or simular and other cool stuff, you can match HTC widgets easy, the thing i miss is really the deep integration with the apps and OS none other has managed.
DHD without a doubt. I find HTC kit extremely reliable. I think the nexus S looks too plasticy.
I had 4 nexus s phones and all had faults... in the end I gave up and got a wonderful HD.. best move ever... The nexus s is the sexiest phone in the world, but performance wise it isn't a scratch on the HD. Of my 4 nexus s, 3 had weird colour changes on the screen due to the curved glass and one had really poor wifi, the weird colours was strange, one had a piss green hue, and another had a purple haze, not at all like the cool blue of the Samsung galaxy s. But my 4 phones was from the first batch The DHD is a 9/10 and the nexus s is a 7/10. And the 7 points is because its the prettiest phone in the whole universe

spb are working on mobile shell for android, i got my beta testers email the other day i think this could be the first sence beater
Coming from HTC Desire & HTC Desire HD to Samsung Galaxy S 2, there is only one think i realize. Whatever HTC lacks in hardware, it more than makes up for it in software. HTC Sync works flawlessly. You want to convert into usb? no problem. Integration with contacts? works out of the box. I am stuck here for at least 2 hrs trying to make my new mobile to sync with Kies, with no luck. Before it turned into a USB, now not even that. (and yes i know about the debugging option). Same with software, linking is not as efficient, TW not as customizable, resulting in downloading 3rd party apps to do the things that you took for granted with HTC. So far, excluding hardware, I am really disappointed with my new purchase :/
I also came across from a Desire - HTC Sync was a pile of crap, just like Kies when it's not working. When Kies works, it's waay better, not that I bother using that either - everything just syncs to my Google account(s).
As for Sense vs TW, I admit the contacts linking/integration is far better in Sense, but as for one being more "customisable" than the other, nonsense - neither interface is particularly customisable, other than widgets, which I think you're referring to. Sense had some nice ones included, but TW has too. The only one I miss from Sense is the combined clock/weather one, but you can get something which looks almost as good using the digital clock and Accuweather widgets.
That's what I first though when I exchanged my desire for a galaxy s about a year ago. You'll get used to and when you do, you will start to appreciate how good the galaxy s2 is in the other areas.
I did miss sence after switching but now I don't look back especially with the super amoled screen!
i had a desire and desire z
hate sense
i love the new touchwiz. not even using go launcher any more

i actually prefer go launcher to any of them but sense ui for me is just annoying overkill with a few nice weather animations
if i wanted sense ui i would have bought the sensastion but i wanted a phone that was based on power not one based on a pretty o/s that is a resource hog
why not stop neing disapointed and just sell the sgs2 and buy a sensation?? job done you can then be a happy person again

I had sense on my Nexus One and while I tried it for a while I simply found it to be too heavily modded. Obviously it works for some but TW has been a pleasant, more stock experience so far (Coming from launcher pro). If I ever go back to HTC I'll be making sure an AOSP based rom is available before hand
Sense is something like UI overhaul of whole android. You may like it, but it is not android experience at all (except you can launch android apps).
TW is also too heavy for me, but except weird mail app it leaves android logic in place.
Black fact is, that you will have hard times to find anyone calling himself a "touchwiz hater", but you can definitely find a lot of Sense haters (take a look on any HTC related forum).
This makes your argumentation problematic and thereby very subjective, but I understand that not everyone have same feeling about HTC -> Sammy migration as me.
//
Edit
Because we are on android, you can try other UI called MIUI. I found it really nice and polished. There are some features I don't like, but its worth try IMO.

Some devs are working on a sense but there is very little progress yet but I am with you coming from a Desire running a Sense 2.1-3.0 mix, TW is quite a disappointment
I always had an HTC before my GS2, and I definitely prefer TouchWiz.
+1

Ill b happy with sense 2.1. Not 3. I don't care what sensation owners tell you, rooted or not, the sensation lags worse than my aging og droid.
Meh... TW4 is okay. Pretty standard rom. Not too heavily modified like Sense, but not too bare like stock, just in the middle. Firstly,I love Sense's eye candy . I'm not a big fan of TW4. Using MIUI and that was the best thing I've ever done.

Sensation may lag, but the evo 3D is speed demon. I love sense so much, its so clean and useful for me. I love the notification bar layout, the polished widgets, the awesome text selection quick look up utility, and just how everything is so intergrated.
I had the epic 4g galaxy S phone and i hated it. Touchwiz on it was absolutely awful for me. Such an ugly ui on froyo.
Now with that said,i am still going to be switching to sprints version of the galaxy s2 come September 16th in hopes that touchwiz has improved since its last iteration.
Sense and TouchWiz both are very nice imho. Sense is SO integrated and clean and a perfected shot at a well made Android experience. TouchWiz is also nice, and I love TW 4.0. I have the launcher for whenever I feel like having a TouchWiz... touch... (lol) to my phone. Sense's widgets, themed overlay, etc., make it a very good experience. But WAY too heavy and cumbersome.
And whoever said Sensations lag... you must be extremely dense. Both the Sensation and EVO 3D are so blazing fast it's unbelievable. And on AOSP ROMs? I hit 4500 on quad easy. Sense is what makes the phone lag, not the phone itself.
