I posted a while ago saying that I had installed Slingplayer mobile on the HD in order that I could view security cameras which for me worked out superbly.
Another feature of the slingplayer is that it contains a freeview box as well......so connected to an aerial gives you full freeview on the HD.
This feature is excellent and the phone when connected to either 3g or H signal gives and excellent picture and allows full viewing....Ok so you may not want to watch TV on it all the time but it is very good and well worth a look.

I used to sell Slingboxes and the associated kit and have to say was impressed with the quality of streams and the options available, but why pay for it unless you have to. For the cost of Sling I have to say Orb wins for me.

I just played around with an HD2 at one of my local T-Mobile stores. I was very impressed. That screen is amazing and everything that I played with was so fast and smooth. I was wondering about the Transformers videos. I didn't get to dig into it too much to try to figure this out on my own. What format are the videos? I assume they have the video player built into it since it plays without any other UI just open it up and play pause etc. I was blown away with how fast you were able to seek to different spots on the video, no buffer/delay time at all. Is that a result thanks to the speedy processor or a great player or both? It would be nice to be able to encode movies and build in the player like that for other movies, or mod that player to be able to choose from a list videos?
I have not used a WinMo phone for a while, the last one I owned was a Shadow (Juno) so this is a big change. After playing with it I am very very tempted to go buy. I would be 100% sold if they had Android working on it and I could dual boot. Either way it is an awesome phone!
Those Transformers movies are mp4 encoded. What's happening is the phone is using the HTC stock video player from the albums. It's the only thing that properly uses hardware acceleration that I have seen, the quickness you see when moving around the slider in the movie is really processor based. The TP2 always takes a second or two to find your spot when doing that.
Very nice, so if I encode with MP4 as I can expect the same results as transformers is getting with the stock media player? TMPMP/Coreplayer , was always the "best" media player as far as I knew back in the day. It probably supports more codecs but are there any performance upgrades that you could expect from using that program over the stock video player?
Where can i get CorePlayer?
via Google: Coreplayer: http://coreplayer.com/
It is for sale on that site. It is a great media player for windows media devices.

I think spending $30 bucks on an app is a lil expensive.

Coreplayer is currently not dealing very well with MP4 video files. The best way to play them back is via Windows Media Player of HTC Album player. MP4 currently offers the best quality and performance in video for the modern HTC WM/WP devices.

Is it possible to get coreplayer for free?
So I'm waiting for my hdmi cable to come from monoprice, and I'm getting kind of anxious. I was just curious if anybody converted 720p videos and played them on a large hdtv, and how it worked out. Was there smooth playback, was there an audio delay, is the quality what you expected? Also, how are games displayed? I saw a video of someone playing angry birds on the Evo but the frame rate was pretty bad.
I got my HDMI cable yesterday. I haven't tried converting any videos and playing them on my 46 inch HD TV, but I did stream a TWiT TV video on the Xoom and mirrored it on the TV. It looked really good. The sound synced up fine, but it carries the audio on the HDMI so I had to turn up the volume on my TV to hear it. I think I'll either have to route the audio out on my TV to my stereo or I'll have to send the headphone jack of the Xoom to my stereo.
Since the Xoom screen has a vertical resolution of 800 pixels and the HDMI out is running at 720, some of the top and bottom of the screen gets cut off. If you are playing a 720 video that shouldn't be an issue though.
I'll try playing Angry Birds on it and see how the frame rate looks. I didn't notice any degredation in the frame rate though while I was playing around with it yesterday.
After playing with it for an hour or so I was pretty happy with the way it looked. I'm waiting for Flash so I can see how Netflix mirrored to my TV looks. Now you've got me wondering though. I'm going to RIP a DVD and see how it looks mirrored to my TV from the Xoom.

Netflix doesn't use flash though so it won't do you any good unless you're using an app like Playon.
I used it last night. (no 720p source)
Mainly on the Youtube app and got some issues.
Now the cable I got was 15' from amazon, but who knows how good it is.
I'm connecting it to a 27" PC monitor that has been wonky with my cable box (I think its the cable box's issue)
But that said, it restarted my Xoom 3 times. Videos would play fine and then freeze, with the tap to restart message. Audio would be out of sync for awhile, and then catch up, or freeze. Im thinking it might be the app though, I don't have any other media on it to play though. When it was working, the quality was great (other than the HQ youtube) menus looked sharp, sound was perfect.
Ill try and move some 720p Community episodes over tonight and see how they look.
+1 for community.
Hopefully it is just the youtube app, it seems a lot of people either hit or miss with that. I don't know, since day one, I have had what I would consider a relatively low amount of force closes (maybe 1-2 per day) with random stuff here or there, but some people talk about it like they can't use it at all. The 1-2 is with several hours of various usage per day, and the force close is usually when trying to open an app, not even when I'm doing anything important. I never had any wiggling on the upper half of the Palm Pre from a release day launch, never had any issues with the Evo Maybe I'm just lucky.
I bet my Xoom explodes tonight.
converting a 720p movie on my xoom tonight and trying it out..
also youtube has massive problems to begin with soo, naturally the mirroring was horrible

I have Despicable Me, 720p version, on my Xoom, plugged it in with the Micro HDMI to My 50" Samsung - looked great I thought. Mouthing I slightly off, but thats how it is on my Xoom to so no changes with that. I also played Mario Cart with the N64 App and the Wiimote hooked up. Worked great!
I have Avatar, Startrek & Transformers 2 on my device played them all via HDMI using the Rock Player app and it was perfect sound was in sync and no lag.
Played Nes & Snes and both were great too. Web browsing was also very solid.
Only one issue and that was the YouTube app. Its an app issue not tablet or HDMI... that app is unstable at best usually anyways and Google needs to update it.

Playon is the plan. Works great on my Samsung Epic that I rooted and installed Froyo on.
I made a video for this.

P.S. Oh and if you liked it please like, comment, and subscribe as I am in the process of trying to become a youtube partner so I can help off set the cost of buying all my gadgets, and hopefully eventually start giving the stuff I review away to my viewers. Thanks
Edit: Just wanted to say that the TV in the video is a 55" 1080p TV.

I have the same problem with the YouTube app when on wifi and no hdmi. I have not tried too much on wireless since I don't want to burn through my cap but the few I tried worked better. Regardless I am inclined to say it is the app and not the HDMI out.

Screw you tube for now it's loaded with glitches. I just uploaded a 720 p mad men episode flawless.. sound is a little crappy doubt but not unsynced

I've been looking for a good movie player and found a app called Vital Player..it works great.try it out!! Works better than rock player and qq player to me.
The reviews complain about proper support for mp4, m4v and mkv. What is your experience?
I personally have played 720p mp4 videos on it with no problem.I will try it a bit more when I get home but so far it works great!
It doesn't play sound using my 720p mkv movies.
played sound on my handbrake-encoded 720p .mkv file but no picture...
I got an idea, I'll put my xoom on top of yours and we'll get sound AND video!
You have to slide your finger up or down the right side for sound & sliding your finger on the left side adjusts brightness. It's pretty neat.I love it so far & my movies look far better using this app than the stock player

Sound is at 100%, its the same problem as with the native player.
have problems playing back sound with MP4 video and switching it to software decoding doesnt help play anything back.
I use total video converter to do all my videos.I don`t know if that has anything to do with it.I`m watching Descent 2 now on it with no problem.Sorry that it doesn't work for you all.I tried. :-(
Ill stick with rockplayer seems to work best for me
i found vplayer to be outstanding. Plays anything. ..however since I got my zoom it has stopped working. Dev said he would work a fix. As a side note the app has a lot of negative reviews due to the fact he started charging for the app. Not fair to humbug any means.
Have you been able to make it work on xoom?

The mating of Xoom tablets is strictly forbidden by Motorola and the laws of nature.
On the bright side, you may end up with an Atrix...

Until we get a Tegra 2 and/or OpenMAX accelerated application everything is going to be half ass. I hope someone who knows how to code has a XOOM. I tried reading a basic book and I got lost. Coding isn't my cup of tea. I keep telling myself someone will cone through for us before I can figure it out myself.
I just don't get it ..Vital Player works perfect on mine..It even has a Setting especially for the Xoom so i dont see why it work for you all..I also see that there are 2 version of Vital player ..1 is called vital player neon..that one didnt work for me.I'll be buying the full version of Vital player because it plays the files rockplayer & qqplayer wouldnt play for me.
Please keep it on topic. Thank you.
I've downloaded and tried all the players on the market and still have the best all around playback with Rockplayer Universal (from the rockplayer website).
I use DVDFab to convert easily and fast, and Act 1 video player on device
While I haven't gotten the official orb app to work I have been able to use the androrb app, problem being so far the quality of the playback sucks. I did try the same video via Amazon's streaming service and it came out quite well, so is it just a matter of updating the software to support the better device, I should note that when I steamed the Sam AP through my phone it looked OK, granted a smaller screen.
Any thoughts appreciated.
Just to let anyone who is interested know might must say I have been quite impressed with the Bluetooth stereo output of the Xoom, it has been fantastic, and another bright spot has been audio streaming from my home PC with audio galaxy.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
have you tried the differnet output settings in the web client? i do that on my dx.
try setting it to each of the three settings under stream.
i cant try it yet as i dont have a xoom...........yet.

I love Orb. Never use the App for it because it sucks! The web client rocks for my Xoom! And now that we have flash, video looks even better than the default stream. Mycast.Orb.com
settings<stream<flash
you will find that this is the best for Orb, don't even know why they have an app
