Streaming through Orb - Xoom General

While I haven't gotten the official orb app to work I have been able to use the androrb app, problem being so far the quality of the playback sucks. I did try the same video via Amazon's streaming service and it came out quite well, so is it just a matter of updating the software to support the better device, I should note that when I steamed the Sam AP through my phone it looked OK, granted a smaller screen.
Any thoughts appreciated.
Just to let anyone who is interested know might must say I have been quite impressed with the Bluetooth stereo output of the Xoom, it has been fantastic, and another bright spot has been audio streaming from my home PC with audio galaxy.

I love Orb. Never use the App for it because it sucks! The web client rocks for my Xoom! And now that we have flash, video looks even better than the default stream. Mycast.Orb.com
settings<stream<flash
you will find that this is the best for Orb, don't even know why they have an app

How to force high res youtube on 3G

I wanted to see if anyone has been able to have by default high res youtube playback on 3g connection. I know that the youtube app will play higher resolution over wifi but on my old htc devices I was able to stream high definition over 3g.
I'm also intersted in this.

any other word on this. Will there have to be ann app for it. It sux having to watch the awful quality.
this reminds me of the my old iPhone3g,,,, it sucks having to watch youtube in that kind of resolution,,, and with the phone not supporting flash yet... there is no other option
Bump again for this topic. I'm surprised it's not talked about more.
I just came from a Samsung Captivate and it has an option to run video in HD. It took a little longer to load the film, but was well worth it!

Yes, just people with HTC devices are able to watch HQ videos...
That sucks! I would have just gotten the HTC Surround if it didn't look so cheap and have such bad reviews.
We can only hope that either MS or a developer can come up with some software to fix this... as I wouldn't see this as being a hardware issue.
Buy a "RealTube" app, works fine on any handset.

Great movie player!!

I've been looking for a good movie player and found a app called Vital Player..it works great.try it out!! Works better than rock player and qq player to me.
The reviews complain about proper support for mp4, m4v and mkv. What is your experience?
I personally have played 720p mp4 videos on it with no problem.I will try it a bit more when I get home but so far it works great!
It doesn't play sound using my 720p mkv movies.
played sound on my handbrake-encoded 720p .mkv file but no picture...
I got an idea, I'll put my xoom on top of yours and we'll get sound AND video!
You have to slide your finger up or down the right side for sound & sliding your finger on the left side adjusts brightness. It's pretty neat.I love it so far & my movies look far better using this app than the stock player

Sound is at 100%, its the same problem as with the native player.
have problems playing back sound with MP4 video and switching it to software decoding doesnt help play anything back.
I use total video converter to do all my videos.I don`t know if that has anything to do with it.I`m watching Descent 2 now on it with no problem.Sorry that it doesn't work for you all.I tried. :-(
Ill stick with rockplayer seems to work best for me
i found vplayer to be outstanding. Plays anything. ..however since I got my zoom it has stopped working. Dev said he would work a fix. As a side note the app has a lot of negative reviews due to the fact he started charging for the app. Not fair to humbug any means.
Have you been able to make it work on xoom?

The mating of Xoom tablets is strictly forbidden by Motorola and the laws of nature.
On the bright side, you may end up with an Atrix...

Until we get a Tegra 2 and/or OpenMAX accelerated application everything is going to be half ass. I hope someone who knows how to code has a XOOM. I tried reading a basic book and I got lost. Coding isn't my cup of tea. I keep telling myself someone will cone through for us before I can figure it out myself.
I just don't get it ..Vital Player works perfect on mine..It even has a Setting especially for the Xoom so i dont see why it work for you all..I also see that there are 2 version of Vital player ..1 is called vital player neon..that one didnt work for me.I'll be buying the full version of Vital player because it plays the files rockplayer & qqplayer wouldnt play for me.
Please keep it on topic. Thank you.
I've downloaded and tried all the players on the market and still have the best all around playback with Rockplayer Universal (from the rockplayer website).
I use DVDFab to convert easily and fast, and Act 1 video player on device

3.1 update - flash streaming now works ok?

Hi guys
I had a xoom but sold it (long story). Seeing that 3.1 seems to fix so many of the issue i'm considering jumping back but would have a short question.
Does viewing / streaming flash movies in 720 now work or is it still extremely choppy? I do not mean in the youtube app, but in the browser from sites such as e.g. project free tv online. This (and the frequent fcs in the browser and market) was the main reason i got rid of my xoom, because i would like to use it (also) to stream tv shows while exercising on the indoor bike :-b
Otherwise great device!
Thanks, and happy xooming

I haven't had any FC's yet, second day on 3.1, I must say I'm very pleased.
Sry, I have no idea about flash playback.
Pirated high profile video will still be just as choppy on any tegra 2 device.

forgive my naivity, but what do you mean with pirated? i did not know that projct free tv is illegal (seriously).
then let's talk about other sites, such as e.g. ted.com or the media libraries of our official tv channels (sf.tv, ard.de, 3sat.de etc.), they all were not watchable at all, so choppy :-(

I was being tounge-in-cheek as I don't care if its pirated... but most people complain about 720p videos not working when they have torrented it as most pirated TV shows and movies use high profile.
High profile playback is a hardware issue. Overall flash video is much better.

ok, thanks for the clarification(s) guys!
I tried Ted.com and it works great.

merci beaucoup!
Video seems to work OK. Flash playback is pretty good. Movies on the other hand are hit or miss. 720p seems to need an overclock to play nice on my xoom.

I've yet to receive the 3.1 update, still on 3.0.1, but I can assure you 720p videos work just fine, you just have to play nice with your encodes.
I'm on 3.1, I was able to watch some 720p videos on you tube in the browser. Depending on the amount of motion or what have you they sometimes lagged out but generally it was fine. I watched the "big buck" demo and it was pretty smooth.

Droid-X as a webcam

i know there are all kinds of apps that do this but can someone tell me one where i can get audio and video and it be in sync and not super delayed?
i would like the highest res video i can get with still getting 30fps
i can use usb cord to my pc that dont bother me.
i will use whatever method that needs to be done.
everything i tried so far = fail
im running latest nightly CM7
my home wifi router dont do wireless-n (only b/g)
anyhow i would really love to use the droid-x as a real webcam with video and AUDIO that is in sync and somewhere close to 30fps and not a 5 second delay
thanks
I looked for something maybe 6 months ago to make the DX a decent webcam, but I gave up. I found that the apps with audio support lagged too much, while the apps that played back smoothly had no audio support. Best bet, buy a better webcam for you computer.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
we know the DX can record at 30fps at 720P in good lighting.
wonder why we cant get a good stream at 480P with audio in sync?
someone probably just hasnt figured out how to do it yet.

Allshare Cast, worst 60€ spent ever!

I bought my Note 10.1 not long ago and after i played around a lot, rooted it and made it a german Note (it came from switzerland, no software updates available).
I thought, i can connect a mouse, a keyboard, USB drives .. but to get a video signal to my monitor, i would need the HDMI adapter for 18€ (which is much for a port that is native on most android tablets) which would block out USB devices OR i would buy the Allshare cast for 60€, which is wireless. I even planned to use it as windows alternative. Anyway, there are not much reviews about it that match my opinion after i used it for 15 minutes.
Out of the box, everything is great. I connect it to my 27" Asus PC screen (i was surprised they incuded a HDMI cable!), it starts by itself - huh, no separate switch to turn it off? No, there is not. It's always on. At least the LED doesn't shine as bright as the sun.
After that, i connected the Note 10.1 with it. I recorded for you what happens next:
Yup, that's right. Every Multiwindow availability disappears. From that point, it was almost certain i would send it back. But that's still not everything, i have ~15-20 FPS when scrolling through my homescreens and app drawer! Also there is ~0,1 - 0,2s of lag between the Note's screen and my Asus. I think videos work fine, i had only Simpsons on the Note and i can't really tell the FPS by that.
And the last part: The image quality is lousy. My 27" has only FullHD which is approximately half the DPI of the Note 10.1. But it has artefacts (it kind of compresses the colors i think; i tried to make pictures but you can't really see anything on it) which makes the image look so bad that i could instantly decide that i would send it back.
Probably i made someone the decision easier whether to buy it or not. I will buy the HDMI cable, have a look at the image quality and if it's worth it (and only then) i will keep it and probably buy a bluetooth keyboard + mouse so i can try again to use it as desktop replacement.

I use the AllShare Cast dongle a lot; especially when I'm traveling. It performs pretty well but the weaker the Wi-Fi connection the more latency is introduced. I have no problems using the web or watching videos on hotel TVs when I'm traveling with good performance about 90% of the time. I've used the HTC Media Link HD dongle which does the same thing the Samsung dongle does. There's far less latency between the device and the dongle on Samsung's solution, it's easier to connect, and the HTC dongle has no on or off switch either.

AllShare Cast uses a lot of resources on the device. I'm guessing that's why they disabled multiview which also uses a lot of resources on the device.

Here are two clips of video playing via AllShare. The first is Hulu the second is YouTube. That means the device is downloading content via Wi-Fi and then projecting it out again via Wi-Fi to the dongle which is a lot more resource intensive than just playing local content. You’ll see the videos (both HD) play with no problem. I haven't had any issues (provided the Wi-Fi signal's decent) watching video from any number of sources. There's an update for the dongle in Play. Have you applied it?
Hmm, I also have the AllShare Cast dongle and I connect it with a Sony Bravia tv with excellent result, granted I limit its usage to playing locally stored video content but I have played some YouTube videos as well in HD mode with superb picture quality. I sit too far away from the tv to use it as an alternate screen but I suppose it might be possible.

Yes, the update is installed. i didn't mean to compare the dongle to the HTC one, it's just that for my expectations the dongle did really bad. For pure multimedia purpose it would be not as bad as i experienced (the helicopter demo video ran smoothly), but i couldn't do anything to get higher FPS in android. I could even neglect the lag and a BIT of the bad image quality.
If i would only want to watch videos on the TV streamed with the Note, the Allcast Dongle would do fine but then i could use the HDMI cable, too - a bit less comfy, but 40€ cheaper than the dongle.
The dongle however is a lot more convenient than a cable. You can walk around with your tablet or sit quite a distance from the screen.

hilarious! why would I want LESS multi-tasking capability on a BIGGER screen?
