I've been trying all day to get my epic updated to froyo but during recovery installation I keep gettin a message saying E:error in sdcard/update.zip. I've seen a guy on youtube do it and I'm using the same download and did the same steps. It was successful for him. Any help is appreciated
Have you tried searching the forums here? We have at least 2 threads going on about how to install.

Ok trying the method right now. What is the PDA slot? and how does it flash on the device? Do you need root?

Nope
Download the stock TAR file
Put the TAR file in ODIN under PDA
Plug phone in and it should get recognized
Hit start
Cross fingers

The pda slot is a slot in odin...bottom right quarter of the screen....that's wher u put the file, I don't think you need root but I could be wrong

Ownagemaximus: better read a little more about Odin. You don't need root, only to get into download mode. And a word of advice, don't flash anything in the "phone" part. At least it isn't good for us over in fascinate land.

Hello!
I've tried to flash 2.2 on my Epic 4. Everything did like it was supposed to be only problem is I didn't like it. So, I'm doing the restore from my previous Backup.
Do I need to wipe it before restore? I'm asking because I did once without wipe and it is not booting. Doing some sound and showing me Samsung.com. Nothing else.
Please, help me guys.
Thank you!
I think you are ging to have to odin back to 2.1 then restore. I could be wrong.

You are correct. Nandroid does not back up your kernal or modem so you will have to odin both of those. Here is a link to the instructions:
Flash to stock

Np man, I had the same thing happen to me first time I tried flashing dk28. Tried booting a backup and got to just where you are hehe
One more question.
If I want to flash just modem (dk28 as example) and then flash some custom rom what files I need for it? I mean just for a DK28 modem? Can you give me right link for it? There is so many and I got lost.
once you have the dk28 modem flashed you can flash any froyo rom you want. just make sure it isn't a rom with ext4 unless you do that whole process.
Trying to install viper rom on my epic and when I'm in clockwork recovery mode it gives me this error:
E:/ Cant open / cache/ recovery/log
What does this mean? What can i do to resolve this. I keep getting errors when I try to install the rom.
I believe you are in the wrong version of clockwork. For the latest viperRom the cwm needs to be Orange 3.0.0.5
Reroot your phone with one click and try again. It appears your phone has lost root. If that doesn't work their are posts in the viper rom thread that describe a process of going back to stock and working your way to viper rom 4.02b. Another alternative is if you haven't flashed viper rom 4.01 first you might try that.

Dont think that is the problem I cant install any ROM s right now including the stock ROM.
Reflash one click root. It will reinstall clockwork for you and that might fix your issue. If not you might have to use odin to go back to stock. The links for this stuff is in the sticky above.

What v. are you trying to install? Is it ext4? what color is the text (v. #) in cwm?

Yeah you need to instal the dk28 modem first. In the epic sticky their is a version of dk28 froyo that you can flash through odin. Try that and then one click root and then instal viper rom.

i need help to im stuck in clockwork 3.0.0 and my fone wont turn on can somebody help
For those wanting to revert from the leaked RUU, you can use this.
http://www.multiupload.com/Y9LP6S6WSP
Firmware: 1.12.605.6
Radio: 1.16.00.0223
31478f109a56be3eb7068d97a7e9b11b PG05IMG_stock.zip
Check md5sum, rename as PG05IMG.zip and flash through the bootloader.
You will keep s-off, root, update to newest (as of today) clockwork recovery and restore the rest to factory settings. Will wipe your phone.
Some people are reporting random reboots on the newest leak RUU, so it may be a trade of. Better battery, or less random reboots.
Thanks Jcase, been looking for this.

I'm not rooted and want to stay that way. If I use this to revert to the original stock thunderbolt Rom will it be a stock unrooted version? And do I flash this like I flashed the unrooted RUU? If that isn't he case could you post a RUU that would be unrooted and signed so I can flash it. I woils appreciate this a lot
Thank you! I had my nandroid backup, but this is peace of mind.
Just to be clear, flashing this (from recovery, right?) will downgrade the radio and reinstall stock ROM but keep root?
Curious, if I flash an older back up in CWM with the older radio, does this replace the new radio, or must I still reflash the old radio?

if you are unrooted, then this rom is not for you I believe, you need original signed version of this rom that is somewhere in this forum. You need the 605.6 ruu that is signed and untouched. To flash this you have to have s-off already and be rooted as far as I know.
There is a obligatory radio thread that has just the older radio if you just wanna go back to the radio. But the RUU you flash in bootloader is the total package radio+software.

So, I have the original signed ruu... .but can't use it to revert, I get:
"Main version is older!
Update Fail!
Press <POWER> to reboot."
How do I get around this and go back to stock for an unrooted phone?
Will this put hboot back on my phone?

Download the downgrade.zip here:
http://www.multiupload.com/EH2U0B1JYG
Download the original RUU here:
http://www.multiupload.com/JWLPZAS15T
Rename and flash the downgrade (PG05IMG) in hboot wait for homescreen to load skip setup. Delete Downgrade.zip and place stock RUU on SD and rename to PG05IMG.flash in Hboot and back to stock.
I am not responsible for you bricking your phone.

Hey i've soft bricked my n7000..
basically i just need to know what exactly to do now, kernels etc
ideally id like to be running Midnote 3.3
anyone kind enough to reply with help would be seriously appreciated!
Maybe if you gave some more information on what how when and why ?
Nobody can help you on a 'hey i lost my car can someone tell me where on this planet i parked this morning?'
Agree on above poster. We need to know what rom uou were flashing from, by what method, and the issue now.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Fair enough was thinking there was a straight forward fix, as in just flash this and do this etc..
i was running Midnote 2.1, i was on LP1 and tried to flash Midnote 3.3 using CWM.. it wasn't flashing as i couldn't see the .zip rom at all..
i then done a few factory wipes and basically just wiped the davlik and cache and tried any options in CWM
The issue now is that when i boot im stuck at the samsung splash screen..
I can boot into recovery and into cwm..
And what exactly happends now ?
dead black screen ?
Samsung logo blocked ?
PC odin doesn't connect ?
Can you enter CWM recovery ?
Can you enter boot recovery ?
I think you better try and flash a safe GB kernel and rom first
Then do a full wipe, then flash whatever you like.
You can best flash through PC odin for the stock GB

Stuck at Samsung logo
Can enter CWM and recovery, odin works as far as i can tell
I would suggest trying to flash a stock gb rom via pc odin. If you get stuck at the factory.fs stage you may well be superbricked because of the cwm recoveries and wipes on lpy.
There are a few threads on sorting out a problematic emmc section. But we'll get to that afyer youve tried this.

Check out dr ketans thread in the stickies of d3velopment section. Theres loaf of info there. Its pretty straight forward if you flash initially to an older rom for your region. Take a look itll make sense promise.

Lads i seriously appreciate this.. if i get my note back up n running i'll be delighted!
so if when i flash this stock gb rom using Odin i don't need a kernel at all right?
again these must be frustrating questions but your really helping me out here

No, you just place the .tar file in Odin in the PDA section.

nope you dont need a kernel when flashing stock GB rom
but 1st keep ur fingers crossed and pray that you get through the ODIN installation method
copy the GB rom file in ODIN folder and open ODIN and click on PDA and select the downloaded GB ROM file and press START
You legends! the stock gb rom worked perfect...
now comes the slightly trickier part.. loading the Midnote 3.3 rom
anyone using this rom? 2.1 was great!
whats the safest way to flash this, kernel wise etc?
thanks again lads
also, now that im back on the stock gb rom.. do i need to root again????
i tried getting into cwm and it brought me into android recovery mode ( still had install zip from sd option)

Yes, you will need to root it if you didn't flash a GB pre-rooted ROM.
And I think the CWM.zip file is on drketan's thread.
Guys im running midnote rom fine BUT it keeps vibrating every 5-8 seconds........................
EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING.. any ideas!???
