New video of GPS Restore App - Vibrant General

CareAce.net just posted a video of a Samsung Epic (2.1), Captivate (2.2), and Continuum (2.1) running side-by-side, and then an install of the Restore App on the Captivate.

Android 2.2 for Hero

dose any one think there will be a port of 2.2 standard build to the Hero as this would be a good thing as it has flash & jit built in.

I don't think so..
I don't believe that HTC will invest money and time to develop it..
I doubt HTC would invest in a port anyway.. But I sure see some chance of the Legend being updated and this rom being portable by some rom genius to the Hero, why not?
Assuming there are any Hero's existing at the time an actual update to 2.2 will be available for the Legend
Ofcourse. This doesn't need to be done by HTC.
We've seen many ports for the Hero. We had 1.6 and then 2.1 ported to the Hero, before the Legend roms were even leaked. Just recently the MyTouch Slide (HTC Espresso) has been ported to the Hero, so I don't see why we won't see 2.2 (Froyo) on the Hero.
It's not only down to porting it from the Legend, we could see a port from a new device, not yet released.
There's no point waiting for HTC to officially release 2.1 or 2.2. The custom roms on here are a better option and to be honest, I don't think I'll even update to the official 2.1 release when it eventually comes out, because Sense on the MyTouch Slide port is far better. Obviously I will if they update to this new version of Sense, but I doubt they'll do that.
But yes, I'm confident we will see Froyo on the Hero, not officially from HTC however.
wtf is this!2.2?They sureley havent finished 2.1 yet!
@bonesy

I think minor updates like 2.2 should be easily possible after the HTC Hero gets the OTA Update possibility during the 2.1 update.
I don't think that HTC needs to put in much ressources for minor updates.
At least this is what i expect, because if EVERY minor update is handled like the 2.1 one with long delays, then many people will think twice before getting an HTC device. But only time will tell...
from what i read it would have to be custom 2.2 as it will have jit built in and the sense ui is not compatable yet. also woulnt 2.1 drivers be easyer to port to 2.2 than 1.5 to 2.1.

I don't think the hero will be able to keep up enough to run 2.2.
Since it has flash 10.1 and the hero isn't powerful enough to run it. Maybe a cleaned out version.
i dont mind about flash as i wouldnt use it for videos as android has a youtube app for most the videos i watch would be ok for other flash stuff but i know what you mean about speed but the hero as standard came with htc flash and thhat worked ok

Well, in my humble opinion, with some overcloacking, and jit, i think we could think about running 2.2, so in my opinion yes, there is a possibility, the problem is to get a 2.2 kernel source...
I'd love getting 2.2 on my Hero, with all the auto-updating and individual stock program updates automatically being pushed to your device.
There will be no 2.2 for Heros ... and Google (not HTC) is the reason for this. For Froyo they will upgrade the kernel from 2.6.29 (used for Android 1.6,2.0,2.1) to 2.6.3x and no one at HTC will take the effort to update the drivers for the Hero. There will be minor bug fixes for the 2.1 Hero release, but no major upgrade in future.
Google sucks, HTC sucks and if they keep it this way, Android fragmentation will suck even more.

How does using the latest kernel (with bug fixes, and many new features) make it google's fault. It's HTC who won't be bothered to update drivers etc (to be fair on them, the hero is an old handset for them and there's no point for them to do it)
Whatever bugs are in the kernel, Google already fixed/patched them for the Android 2.6.29 kernel. The kernel adaption they are doing are minor (power management, OpenBinder, etc.). So there is no real reason to upgrade that often. They kept the kernel stable for 3 version and now they are breaking compatibility again - why?
Look at MontaVista, Windriver and many others that do embedded Linux and guess how often they update kernels? However I agree with you that Heros will possibly not be able to run Froyo properly anyhow, so why bother with them? Overall it is a frustrating experience - but don't get me wrong here, despite this update odysee I am more than happy with my Android powered device and my next one will be Android again. Maybe not from HTC, and maybe I will not be awaiting any updates that eagerly again but let's see what comes next.
The chances of getting 2.2 are practically none. As has been stated, 2.2 will be using an upgraded kernel from 2.1. The only reason we have 2.1 ROM's at the moment is because there was a hacked leaked kernel from HTC (which is why it is buggy and has poor battery life), so unless HTC actually commit to an official release for the hero, even the geniuses here at XDA wouldn't be able to get 2.2 running on our Hero's.

Froyo (Official) has been leaked for Captivate, our turn soon?

I don't know if this is a repost or noted some other place but Official Froyo has been leaked for Captivate here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797282
Here is some more info : http://emuneee.com/2010/10/froyo-on-the-samsung-galaxy-s-captivate/

I have no idea how we can get this for our Galaxy S as our machines are quite different (not as crippled) but if someone has the balls then by all means go ahead just don't blame me for any problems
I'll leave you guys to talk about this as I don't know anymore then you guys.
Edit Edit: Don't install this! Breaks ****
Can a mod please close this thread, Thanks

this is great news...
i hope the update for our sgs is also on the way...

Correct. Given that Wireless AP and USB tethering features are still in the firmware, there is no way it will be the official release. But it is a nice leak that Captivate owners desperately needed because of the difference in hardware than generic i9000 phones. Captivate can't use i9000 Froyo ROMs without hack it first (screen rotations are different and buttons also mapped differently) and vice versa.

Stock Gingerbread ROM?

I know this info is probably all over, but my searches come up with a lot of mixed results, and I tend not to trust software I download off a random Google hit.
Are there any straight-up stock Gingerbread ROMs for the Evo that work and are stable? (Broken 4G is alright, but I want all non-phone hardware to work.)
Savaged rom or omgb
Sent from my EVO 3D. Yes I work with Sprint.
isnt CM7 pretty much stock ? i know they add ADW but its 99% stock
The closest thing you'll find is CyanogenMod 7. It works fairly well, has WiMAX, HDMI, GPS is spotty (there's workarounds for it), and has a crapton of customizations available.
I use CM7 + a flashable mod that takes out some CM apps like the file explorer and adds in the stock launcher. That's as close to stock 2.3 plus you get 4G and HDMI.

Well if you want bare bones stock then OMFGB is the only stock 2.3 Tom I know of. It can be found here http://t3hh4xx0r.com/projects-2/projects/omfgb-4/nightly-builds
But if you should know that CM7 will have to most features that are currently working for the evo. All AOSP roms are not specifically written for the evo, therefore new code has to be written in order for it to properly work. That is why it takes some time for them to get all features implemented.
I say give CM7 a shot. Stock 2.3 with many extra tweaks and mods.
Alright.
Does anyone know if the Savaged-Zen kernel works with the OMGB ROM?
Stock as in all AOSP stock? Or stock as in I just bought this phone from Sprint and it has Gingerbread out of the box stock?
CM7 is the closest you going to get to the first one. The second one doesn't exist. The only carrier with an official Gingerbread install is T-Mobile with the Nexus phones.
kommydroid gb build is pure stock, with stock launcher, no 4g though, no special anything just stock as raw can get
No cm is not even close to stock... Salvage is the closest thing that is activley deved on xda.

Dell Streak 5 With GingerStreak 2.4.4 or Latest Official Build? What Do You Think?

I have two streaks one with the last original official update I think 3.51 with superuser and the latest clockwork recovery. I really enjoy this version because it is extremely stable, plays movies, syncs contacts, and a number of other things.
I flashed my other streak with gingerstreak 2.4.4 and I love the experience and the feel and the keyboard with the custom kernel so I can use setcpu with ofcourse all the fun twists. Unfourtanely it is not nearly as stable as an official release like for instance playing HD Movies via MX Player has its struggles.
Basically my question is is there an official rom from dell with gingerbread 2.4.4 that works? And how do you install it. I found one and the size was about 1.54 mb that did not work plus I think that file was to small. For example is this file an official update? Steak_406_19940_14_pkg ? I read the wiki page and I thought it said in fact there were official updates to the streak up to 2.4.4 maybe in another region or carrier. I would like to install an official gingerbread release and then add superuser with clockword. I believe that would be a nice setup.
Or if there is a way streakmod 2.4.4 cannot be so buggy or if there was a way to watch HD movies on it without the custom kernel freaking out that would be nice as well. I guess you cannot have your cake and eat it to. Either custom gadgets and speed or stable and slow and movies just... Not both...
Also I would like to play movies from my streak via the dock through HDMI with mx player or mobo player not the stock player if anyone knows how to do that.

there are other Rome
telling stable
PowerROM or DSC would be a better choice than StreakDroid right about now. Both are actively worked on while development on StreakDroid has stalled with DJ Steve looking into porting ICS. I would encourage you to read the threads in development regarding these ROMs as well as the other Gingerbread ROMs available. I'm sure you'll find one suited to your tastes.
