[Q] Bought a Desire Z got a T-Mo G2 - G2 and Desire Z General

Hello,
The strangest thing happened to me, I was looking for a HTC Desire Z for a good price and I found a store selling from eBay for 489.99€ (no send fees), that's pretty cheap here in Spain (I've seen it for around 530€ on most sites) but the store was pretty well rated and I'm Kind of impatient . So I bought it on Saturday and got yesterday (Tuesday) that's only 2 week days. I was really happy and all but when i turned it on I noticed something really weird, there was no Sense. I looked at the box and it was a T-Mobile G2 and indeed the phone has a big "G2" written on the back and "T-Mobile" on the front. Then I started getting scared because I red here that T-Mobile's GSM network isn't the same as Europe's you can call but no data connection. But when I turned it on and set up the apn it worked perfectly (I'd say even faster than my nexus). So I said what the hell, rooted it (took me some time lol), and installed Cyanogen (Great work, I'm donating again after christmas ).
So here are my questions: Has this happened to anyone else? Is T-Mo's network the same as Europe's? oh, on another topic, didn't the G2 had 4Gb internal memory, why do I only have 1,2Gb usable memory?

It has four gigs just not for user use.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App

what does the other 3gb are for? the nexus has only 512mbs and you still have 192 mbs free

search or go the Q&A section and go about 8 topics down to find the answer.

you're right, sorry, but i'm still curious about t-mobile's and europes gsm networks

it could've been a G2 Housing but the hardware could be Desire Z who knows

Yes, the networks are different. You've definitely got a G2 there, not what was advertised. See this thread about the network thing :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=854971

Some countries have and use the same frequency as T-Mobile USA's 3G freq so I'm guessing you got lucky and it worked.
I remember I couldn't wait until I went to Turkey to use my iPhone 3G with their 3G network on VodaFone TR. Couldn't even use 3G here in America on my iPhone haha.

The US version of the Vision supports 1700 OR 1900 UP, 2100 DOWN. Tmobile (US), Wind (Canada), Mobilicity (Canada), and Videotron (Quebec) are the only networks that I'm aware of using 1700 UP. Most of europe uses 1900 UP, 2100 DOWN.
As for GSM though (2G), its pretty much all compatible.

Telstra 850 version working in USA on 3G

Hi
I stuck my neck out and purchased a Touch HD telstra version from a company in australia. It just came in today and it appears to be working well on the 3G band of ATT. I have the H in the signal bar and DSL report speed test 934 kbs. More to follow.
see this: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NPV2LJDG
This is awesome news...please keep us updated and also tell us where you got it from?
Thanks.

WOW, thats compared to my E connection in Chicago that tested at 150K and WIFI at 1100K.
Ouch, I might shed a tear. I'm definitally jelous of 3g in US. Stuck on roughly 230kbps on E with tmobile. Though paying $10 for unlimited data and 200 msgs is nice compared to the move to At&t. Im =( nonetheless, but congrats to you
BTW, anyone know if its a change in hardware or software (like in diamond) that adds the frequency?

Just done the same thing here. Great to hear that you are having success!! thanks for letting us know.
Have you put a new ROM on the thing yet Dutty or something else?
Is the telstra customisation as bad as we have been hearing?
Cheers,
Awesome, please let us know where you got it from. Also, if you don't mind, how much was it with shipping and how long did it take to get.

Took 4 days, should have been 3 but customs held it up--needed a form filled out that I was using it for "testing" (I guess because its not FCC approved). Seller was great.
So far so good, flashed it and testing out some new roms.
3G works fine.
Getting used to the big screen and few buttons(had a polaris).
Damn, this is some amazing news if true....
I just recently got an Xperia X1a, but the HTC Touch HD was definitely my first choice. But the 3G thing was a deal-breaker for me since I really wanted something that was speedy on the browsing.
I absolutely love my X1 but this is making me wonder if I should return it....
MAN, I hope this is just a myth, lol!
How sweet it is
$826 plus shipping is a considerable amount. It doesn't surprise me that the OP is able to get 3G. I wonder where the user is located. It might make a difference if everybody will get 3G in the United States. I wish there was some kind of map / key that would identify where the 850 / 1900 3G signals were at in North America. Congrats on having 3G with the HD in the United States. I am quite jealous I must say.
I am in north Florida.
BTW saw some posts about bluetooth skips.
Using Dutty 1.9 rom and pocket player, perfect sound with a 64 bitpool even with internet usage. Kept the stock radio.

Really? That doesn't surprise you? All the threads I've read in the past were talking about how disappointing it was to not get 3G in the U.S. with the HD. And how it was most likely a hardware issue (although that is still up for debate). Most people were even skeptical about the Aussie version.
I think if you were to hit up an AT&T wireless store, they could show you which areas have the 3G signals, they did for me. Although I'm not sure if they'd be able to specify if it's an 850 signal area.

Exactly. I know where all the 3G areas are in the US they just won't be able to tell me on what frequency.
The Xperia works on the 1900mhz signal only and gets 3G in some areas. That's why I was not surprised.

Ahh, I see I see.
I got a big fat H with a box around it on my Xperia (HSDPA I think), which I was told by another poster is actually a lil faster than 3G.
So does that mean my area has only 1900mhz signal? Or not necessarily...
I'm really considering returning my Xperia now hahahah
Anyone can tell what make the different from the T8285 and T8282, both of them have the same hardware.....how can the T8285 support 3G, i use my T8282 to flash the telstra rom but still cant get the 3G even the model name have changed to T8285. I still dont believe that is the hardware issue

Telstra T8285 fro EBAY AU Unlocked?
I have been tempted to order it on Ebay as well. It will be my first purchase on Ebay.... From what I can see the Telstra T8285 is the one I want and It says it's unlocked. I plan to pop my AT&T SIM card in and expect it to work on the 850 3g band. Am I missing anything else?? I'm pretty sure the folks who have already bought one have got it from the same source in AU. If I get the nerve to do this I will be selling my T8282.
Thanks

Using the Omni 2 with T-Mobile?

I’ve done a lot of research on other websites but I can’t seem to find much about using the Omni 2 with T-mobile on XDA. I was going to buy an unlocked version of the Omni 2 on Ebay and use it with my T-Mobile account. I previously had a Touch Pro 2, but I’m sick of it.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
i'm assuming you mean t-mobile in the US? i'm using one with them for about 2 months without any problems so far, granted t-mobile's 3g band is 1700mhz so i don't have 3g speeds, which is fine with me since i don't have a data plan anyways (i use wifi where i can). was a little tricky setting up the mms settings to receive pictures full size though. either way i don't have any complaints, other than the fact i won't be able to use their 3g network.
i have an I8000L from canada btw, which means the 3g bands are 850/1900mhz which at&t uses, so i'm thinking of switching to them since i'm not on contract with t-mobile anymore, so i can take advantage of their 3g.
hope that helps a little. just noticed you posted this almost a month ago so maybe you already made a decision..
I am using an Omnia II in the UK (through resellers, because T-Mobile didn't have this handset). And 3G is fine where I am, no trouble with that here.

[Q] Mytouch 4G Stuck on 2G

First of all, New User, First thread
I bought an HTCH Glacier (Mytouch 4G) last week it arrived yesterday, bought the unlock phone and was able to get my SIM working with this phone. Loving it!
I live in Dominican Republic and my Carrier is Orange Dominicana. I typed all the APN settings and my Phone connects, BUT ONLY TO 2G. It just shows a "2G" Icon, really bad news because I was really looking forward on using it as a WIFI Hotspot.
Ive googled and looked everywhere. Tried to put it on WCDMA only, but its goes back automatically to its WCDMA/GSM Auto option. Checked all over the *#*#4636#*#* config tab. Nothing.
Is there something I am missing, does T-Mobile blocks 3G availability for countries which are not US?
Please help me out with this...
Thanks in advance
Dan

tmobile has nothing to do with your 3g/4g speed.
You should have checked your carrier's HSPDA's bands before you bought the mytouch. Tmobile's bands HSPDA bands are 1700/2100
Orange HSPDA is i believe 900. It is not compatible with the US mytouch 4g which only runs with 1700/2100. I believe the UK version supports 900 which is used with ORANGE.
Thanks a lot Teo032. Received yesterday and like ponsting it on Auction!!! Too bad...
I thougth it would work as the specs showed in GSMARENA specifies it supports 3G @ 900 MHZ

yeah that sucks, i think there was another post that says the official tmobile site and htc site said that only 1700/2100 was hspa compatible where as 900 band is probably the international version.
Wait. I was just checking a local auction site here in DR. There was an HTC Mytouch 4G being sold (Well it was sold already). I started talking with the seller and he told me his phone's 3G worked with Orange Dominicana...
That got me like: " What!? "
I got a 3G sim card, I used to have a BIS data plan (Which ive tested on HTC sensation, Samsung Galaxys and The Samsung Galaxy Tab. They all worked with the 3g. Also tested and Iphone/smartphone data plan. Nothing
I'll give it a try until friday, testing other configurations...
If not suceeded. What good phones are around that DO SURE work with Orange Dominicana ?

Dude we are having the exact same problem, i just threw it away to a friend who likes to do all kinda cool thing to cell phone to see if he could brick it or overclock the band which i don't think he will do
@ SNAKEEYEPTY. Are you from Dominican Republic?
It seems we are missing some configuration.... I'll go next sat to an Orange Office and see what they can do. I hadnt gone cuz I know customer service here sucks... I just dont trust those guys... but I gotta give it a try...
If your friend find something out, let me know... I am kinda loving this phone... but if this feature cant be enabled... Goodbye to it.

naaaa no updates..
we need someone to unlock, underclock or overclock the antenna to a 850mhz/900mhz and the rest of the bands, it is possible, but stupidly hard to accomplish...
No, it's not possible. Analog and digital radio filters, DSP and other parts are VERY different from your average computer (actually, they're so different that it's like saying sky is different from ground). It's not "overclock" or "underclock", and has nothing to do with "clock". Band isn't clock rate. And even the physical antenna properties might need to be changed for band changes.
If I remember right, all the MSM8255-based phones are dual band, most running 900/2100. MT4G runs 1700/2100 instead. If my assumption is correct and the change isn't physical on the board in one of the external components, but only SW - then you might be able to make it work with 900 MHz band instead of 1700. If not - then there's no chance.
So, I would be able to make it work... By far, no luck
Guys @ customer service told me I needed another data plan, specially for smarthphones... I tried that already with a friends SIM. No luck.
I hadnt sold it cuz Im 80% sure it works on 900 mhz. GSM arena says it, and most of T-Mobile phones supports this freq.
Obviously, GSM Arena was proven wrong.
AT&T bought Tmobil, so what does this mean for those with tmobil exclusive band like us?? are att will keep using 1700/2100 for the next 10 years or should we send them our cellphone for a replacement??? what should we do??? just wondering....
I'm pretty sure the at&t/T-Mobile merger didn't go through. It was ruled 'not in the public interest', though they still had the option to go to trial. Last I read, at&t was withdrawing ...

Hi everyone, does anyone know if this issue was resolved? I live in Lima, Peru and have the same problem with HTC Mytouch 4G. Did someone find a way to make it work with 900 mhz?
Thanks!
Hmm, I'll have to check this out when I fly back down for Christmas break, lmao. I know when I bring down T-Mobile phones they all work on Orange (my prefered carrier and OPs carrier). No reason why 3G or HSPA+ shouldn't work. I'd probably have to check around the large cities because outside those large cities such as San Cristobal which is close to Santo Domingo, you'd fall back on GPRS/EDGE.
P.S.- If I check this out, It would be around Valverde Mao in the north, close to Santiago and Puerto Plata, but if I get the chance to visit my cousins in San Cristobal, I'll check down there too, lmao.

Unlocked on T-Mobile

There seems to be some confusion about this phone working on T-Mobile 4g
YES THE PHONE WORKS!! however if you want 4g you need to be in a 1900 refarmed area and yes LTE works as well.
I live in Katy, Texas which is a suburb of Houston which is a 1900 refarmed area. Phone works perfectly fine. I didn't have to do any set up. Basically just like a tmo phone. I haven't noticed LTE yet. It switches from 3g to H. Runs just as fast as my nexus 4 and one s. Just thought I would drop this info, hopefully it helped someone.

I would like to confirm that the Unlocked 32GB HTC One works perfectly in Phoenix, AZ as well. We're another 1900MHz refarm, and I've spotted LTE in some areas as well. Don't be afraid to grab this from HTC rather than dealing with T-Mobile's shinanigans and bloatware.
I'm in the boston area, which is also refarmed. pretty much same experience as op. all the set up was automatic.
the only thing different is indoors, sitting at my desk which is 3 feet from the window, my phone switches between E, 3g, and H every few minutes like it cant get a stable connection.
havent gone outdoors yet.
Speedtest during H connection was: 104ms ping, 5.13Mbps down, 2.07Mbps up
this is comparable to my g2 speedtests

Working faster than my galaxy nexus around chicagoland, only problem is that I cant no longer tether even with the mod UAstring but If I switch back to the galaxy nexus everything works fine. We need to fix this issue ASAP
I live in SD, our refarm is kind of strange and this is the first time I've ever used it(only used primarily tmobile phones for last 10 years). The one thing I will say is that it in SD it seems every other tower has been refarmed, as I will keep going in and out of HSPA. This was seen as I was driving around on the freeway(not texting but checking service). Another thing is that I can be on a tower that has been refarmed, go into a building, and have it revert to edge from HSPA outside. And then when I take a couple steps outside the building it works again.
Also I was wondering if anyone else has handcut their sim to microsim? I'm hoping that may be the issue, and if I get an official tmobile microsim it will be fine. Otherwise the refarm is superb when it works, getting about 10 Mbps down with my handcut(from diagram) sim
Houston Area
The Developer Edition work fine in Houston area. However, the data speed is jumpy. My Note 2 LTE speed stay above 15 MBS all the time but the One LTE will go from 5 MBS to 20 MBS. H+ on the one is not stable at all. Tmo agent told me to call back in a week for more info. If someone find out a way to optimize the Dev edition on Tmo radio please let me know.

New to the htc one but what is the tmo radio required for? Since it already works unlocked?
If I'm not mistaking it's 1700/1900/LTE out of the box the unlocked one doesn't have 1700 enabled. I'm sure a dev will eventually get it done. If you want 3g/4g data then you need to be in a 1900 refarmed area.

The ATT/dev ones are 850/1900/2100MHz UMTS; band 4 (AWS) is the only UMTS band that uses 1700MHz at all.
I wouldn't count on getting AWS enabled on the dev version. It is very likely that the allowed bands are configured in hardware as has generally been the case on MDM9x15 devices.

The unlocked version is strictly worse from a 3G standpoint but might have a couple of extra LTE frequencies (not 100% sure on that one, tmo version definitely is bands 4/17 only). AFAIK the only other place AWS is at all likely to matter is Canada, but assuming tmo will unlock your One there is no frequency advantage to getting the unlocked version from HTC--I think it's $5 cheaper.
If you travel internationally then that's a huge advantage.. but I'm sure tmobile will unlock your phone, if you ask. I purchased the unlocked version because I didn't wanna deal with my uncle (account holder) nor tmobile. Plus there wasnt any information about tmobiles release at the time, I so I hopped on the unlocked version.

I'm shipping this phone back to HTC, I was thinking of buying T-Mobiles HTC One Branded phone that includes the AWS 1700mhz Band, but I don't like the fact that its only a 32GB. I'm going to miss this phone. Ohh well S4 is around the corner maybe I could give Sammy a shot.

Just the way non T-Mobile phones work in San Diego. I have the same exact issues with my one x. Compared to T-Mobile phones the data connection is extremely unreliable constantly switching and dropping ESPECIALLY inside. Same thing with my wife's unlocked iPhone on T-Mobile.

[Q] Verizon LG G2 to T-mobile LTE?

I have read a lot already on this site about my issue just wanted to clear up a few unanswered questions.
I am looking to switch from Verizon to t-mobile because of prices and terrible reception where I'm living in Riverside Ca. So I know that I can simply put in a t-mobile sim and change to the correct gsm settings and get cell reception (correct me if I'm wrong) but what about getting LTE from t-mobile? I have looked to see if the new 700 mhz band covers here and Ventura County Ca. (where I am when I'm not in Riverside) and it does so I should get LTE without having to put in a custom Rom, correct?
I'm a novice when coming to roms (plus a failed attempt) so i would like to avoid them as much as I can. Will do it if I have to though... All about saving $$$$
Thanks for the replies.

I know what your saying about saving $$$ phones these days are almost the half of a old car/price of a motorcycle.
If your Verizon phone is not simlocked and also has support for the LTE bands which T-Mobile is using then it's possible to get LTE working without the need to buy another phone. If it's mentioned on internet on multiple sites that the G2 supports that LTE band then you can get it without a custom rom.
In my eyes it's possible to have working LTE from T-Mobile on your verizon phone, but to be 100% sure I would contact Verizon support about your question.
I also had many fail attempts with custom roms first but after you get how it works, you can flash anything as smooth as butter:good:
you could also wait for a VS980 G2 user who had the same issue as you but I think that it would take you more time awaiting for a reaction from somebody since not many people are browsing the Q&A section.

I found this on another thread:
"I just switched from a Verizon Galaxy Note 2 to the G2 since all I can get from it with t-mobile is H+ speeds (about 4mbs-6mbs). I inserted the t-mobile sim into the verizon g2 and it automatically switched to global mode and I then went in to edit the apn settings to fast.t-mobile.com. 4G LTE is working just fine on stock rom kitkat update (I'm in L.A. suburb). Speeds range from 15mbs to 30mbs+ depending on where I am in the city. Here are some screenshots"
This guy is pretty much in my area and sounds like he did not do anything other switch in a t-mobile sim...

I will DM him to get some more insight.
Thanks for your reply.
I'm using my droid mini on tmobile and am getting LTE speeds. You should see them if you're in an area where the network was refarmed to 1900mhz
Keep in mind the fastest speeds you will see is 21Mbps unless you swap for the Tmobile Verizon which goes up to 42Mbps and higher.
