Hi everyone,
I just got a router today and set it up with a hidden SSID.
I have no problem connecting to broadcasted SSID, but it won't let me connect to this hidden SSID router.
Steps taken:
1. Remembered the SSID
2. Entered the WPA password
What happens next is the Aria just keeps scanning for available wifi. It doesn't connect automatically to the hidden SSID (home). Neither did it allow me to manually connect by clicking on 'home'. Instead, it gave me an option to Forget the network if I click on it.
I noticed there are several threads that belongs in other forums in XDA but none of them answers this question.
Any advice/suggestions? Greatly appreciate it!
Thanks everyone!
Update:
By the way I read a thread that we have to add the device MAC address to the routers' filter. Did that but still won't connect automatically. Neither does it allow me to connect manually.
Clicking on 'home' just gave me the same options:
1. Forget network
2. Change password
If only it would give me a third option:
3. Connect
That would be great!

You did not mention which Aria ROM you are using.
Did you type it exactly the same? Its case sensitive.
I've turned off MAC filtering because some routers have a max that can be in the list, preventing the later ones from connecting. I've had no problems connecting to both my Westell (home) and Netgear (work) routers with hidden SSID's after turning off MAC filtering using stock ROMs (2 & 12)

I've used mac filtering before with a hidden ssid and never had any problems connecting. I'm guessing maybe he typed the ssid wrong. The devices don't care if it's hidden or not. What matters is it it's typed correctly and that it's in range to see it.
Thanks for the enthusiastic response everyone!
Sorry I forgot to mention my ROM. I'm using Liberated R12 here.
I've undertaken all these steps:
1. Case sensitive SSID is correct (all lowercase which is correct)
2. password is 100% correct
3. wifi is in range (sat right next to it) - I'm using D-link router
These happened:
1. Range not found
2. Can't connect manually
So anyway, I've decided to broadcast SSID and password protect it instead. Also removed MAC filtering. No problem now.
However just for future reference, let's get to the bottom of this!
By the way, I noticed that the Aria is receiving weaker signals than the iPod and Blackberry that is also within the same range distance. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks again guys!
Greetings all,
I just purchased the aria and am having a
variation on this problem. I have successfully
gotten my aria to connect to my hidden SSID
network. However, if I leave the range of the
and then return, it will not connect automatically.
If I try to add a network of the correct name, it
will suddenly find my network. I have version
2.1-update1 on my phone and I suspect this to
on the phone end since my wife's phone does not
have this problem and they were purchased at the
same time. Thank you for your time.
Keith
Very well could be your phone. On stock rom and even cm6 I had no problem connecting to a hidden network. It was with the cm7 nightlies that I had to turn SSID broadcasts back on.

Please help, ive had my hd2 for a few days now and have had nothing but problems, might just give it back!
It picks up my home router but simplify wont connect, it just displays a small rotating circle likes it working but nothings happening.
When i remove the settings and retype the key code it keeps saying incorrect code but it isnt,
Anyone any ideas, can i some how reset the wifi settings, its taken me a few days to customize the phone so i dont really want to do a hardwear reset. Ive already a software restset.
Bloody htc!
What protocal are you using on your router? WPA, WEP?
Oh if your using an older Belkin router, I know of about 3-4 models that used to have trouble with WinMo, an update Router flash fixes it though.
Give us some more info on your router etc and Im sure we can help though
Sure your using the right password/key? if it says its wrongs it is probably wrong lol. Maybe try changing it to a more basic password as a test? like "password" and see if it can get connect.

Hi
Calm down. Give some information about your router and the type of security You use.
try these
1. Reset the router once
2. If you use MAc access list on the router then add your device's MAC to the list.
3. If you use N router then in the settings untick N mode protection.
Give more details about the third party software on the hd2 using radios (eg: tomtom, igo, gpstuner like these)
Good luck
HI guys thanks for helping out.
Obvious first - yes the key code is correct i use it on my laptop and iphone.
security mode says WAP-PSK/WPA2-PSK. Its a siemens ive been on the ip server addres and cant see any issues, im on my laptop using the wifi now and its working perfet.
Ive tried everything, changing passwords, settings both on the router and on the phone.
The hd2 is full of really stupid bugs!
Try to hardreset the PPC.
If it won't work, try to update your ROM to the latest available.
If it doesn't want to work, then try to connect to another WiFi without password and see the connection is successful.
If it works with an unprotected WiFi, try to connect to a different router but with protected WiFi.
If it works, then there is a problem with your router and I suggest to update your router's firmware.
funny wifi
the problem wit my hd2 is most of the time it shows wifi connected but i cant surf the internet and sometimes out of the blues it connects to the internet, cant figure out wats happening....
HI kholk, thanks for the help, ill work my way through it and hopefully get it sorted!

Have you found the solution? I can help you my friend i had the same situation
I tried to connect yesterday my hd2 with my router. First it wasnt working aswell. Then i set the next things. Channel 9 (was auto), Encryption AES (was tkip and AES). Network mode is Mixed. Further have you installed Mac Filter? I installed this also. So if i have a connection thats it. I must fill in my macadres from my phone for i get fully connected.
Hi guys thanks all for you help call HTC UK support and their amazing advice was to do a full hard reset!
I really am having a lot of problems with this phone and i cant understand why their have been so many issues?!
Hi guys,
I have the same problem- HD2 shows it is connected, but no access to Internet(other- laptop, SE990 phone is connected and working OK)
For not to write about all, now situation is:
1. On router wrt54g2 temporary disabled wireless security, only mac filtering is on(laptop mac, SE mac, HD2 mac is allowed), router firmware is up to date
2.HD2 is like new after hard reset, no settings is done for connection to home network. HD2 wifi is on, looking for access points and connecting to only one available open network in my area- to my home network and shows it is connected but no access to Internet.
3. In router I can see all connected clients by mac. All 3(lap, SE, HD2) are connected. I use Network Magic software too but it is showing only my laptop and desktop are connected. SE is not connected according NM, but it is working OK.
P.S.
Do not know what else can help you in my problem(maybe some other router setting, but as other devices are connected without problems so maybe it is not important for now)
So only my HD2 can not access WWW
Can You guys help somehow please
I've got a similar problem with an HD2 over here. Wifi does switch on, but it just won't connect to my router. The cirkel that is supposed to show when connecting to a network doesn't show either. I'm using WPA2-AES security, and yes, i did use the proper network key. I haven't tried connecting to other networks/using an alternative encryption method because a lot of other devices will then have to be reconfigured and it's not my own place. My Touch HD and 2 laptop connect to the network without any problems. The only solution I came across until now is doing a hard reset, which I would rather not do... I'm using a stock dutch rom (V1.43). Is it possible that upgrading to the newer 1.48 will solve this problem?
Have you tried removing the wireless security password and trying again? Test to see if maybe you are indeed typing in the password wrong.
Also check your exception list on your router, it might be blocking any other devices coming in.
I have the same problem.. Get the spinning loading circle and thats it.. But if i turn my belkin wires g router running wpa2 off then straight back on again the phone connects fine. But if i then leave my house or disconnect from the network then try and reconnect it wont and have to do the same process again. Luckily im also running a speedtouch 585 modem router which the phone connects fine to.
hey maybe it takes only a WEP key and not WPA as most people have. this is certainly the case as mentioned in the Wifi router article below -
http://www.mobilityminded.com/5438/wi-fi-router-on-htc-hd2-application-overview
Again me
It seems that it is problem with my router. HD2 was able to connect to open wireless a.p. in my town and all sow to my friends router which is using WPA security. So my linksys is not compatible, or i will try some other settings on it, but as other router clients have no problems, i am loosing my hope to have my HD2 connected at home unless i change router. But then another problem- which router will be compatible with all my devices in prise range of 100$
And replying to blackheart2925 my friend is using wpa not wep, i do not know other settings on his router but it is not security problem.
One thing is strange for my HD2 shows it is connected, router shows mac of HD2 among connected clients, but only HD2 do not have access to internet

PROB:
If your HD2 connects to router but you cannot enter any web site, do this:
SOLUTION:
enter your www router settings - wireless - access control - MAC Address Filtering Table ->>>>> add your HD2 MAC adress
enter your www router settings - firewall - access control ->>>>> add your HD2 MAC adress
so, you have to add your MAC adress of HD2 into router TWO TIMES into TWO PLACES!
I had the same problem and..... solved
Hi All,
Just got my new HTC HD2 from Virgin, however I cannot for the life of me seem to connect it to my home WiFi (I've not tried it elsewhere yet).
I've still got my MDA Compact IV here with me and use the same settings as the HD2 and that connects first time no problems, but the HD2 isnt playing ball!
It sees my wireless network at home (full strength) and starts to connect then simply says "Available". No notification of incorrect wireless key etc...reported.
I have used my Compact IV side by side with the HD2 and no issues so I am puzzled as to what I need to do now
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank

I've not enabled MAC address filtering on the router at all, just simple wifi security key access.
Flash a new radio?
(check my sig under hspl flashing guide)
if you are using wep, heres something to try.
routers can be set to three types of wep key
open
open or shared
shared
in my experience if you areset to the middle one, "open or shared" mobile devices can have trouble connecting.try setting it to just "shared"instead.
course it could just be my router but I have seen this behavior in three mobiles including my hd2.
Current router settings is WPA-PSK [TKIP]. I even tried turning off security and got nothing My router is Netgear WGR614v9 - it came with my Virgin broadband deal.
Current ROM version is 1.48.405.2 (71294) WWE and radio version 2.05.51.05.2
Its most annoying that the HD2 on the face of it seems like a really good handset but then I cant get the Wifi connected which most basic handsets have no issues with
Any other possible solutions?
I got the same problem
I have the exact same problem.. Cant connect to my AP with my leo... got no mac secure on, even if i remove my security(WPA/wep or whatever), it will not connect...
I had the same issue when I applied hint 39 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638
Result: couldn't connect to my network with WPA2.
After restoring the parameters everything is OK.
Right finally got it working!
Installed the Touch_X_Wireless_Draft_N_ON.cab cab and then uninstalled it and now it seems to work.
Cab can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=584415
Hope that helps others out too
I had this issue too, could see my home Wifi network, but the device would just say, "Incorrect Network Key". But it was correct!
I now have it working strangely by changing router Security Options to (WPA-PSK + WPA2-PSK)
Connects with no hesitation now!
my advise is disabling WEP password in both HD2 and the router.
it works perfectly.
"Incorrect Network Key" problem
Bro you made my day! I spent whole day to figure out a solution to the exact problem. I wish I had seen your reply before. When I changed my cable modem's setting as suggested and encryption to AES, it worked
Thanks again.

i'm having trouble connecting my dhd to wifi. it can connect but i cant surf to any pages?
can someone help me?
any error message available?
have you tried restarting the router and then try again?
if fails, could you use an terminal emulator to type in ifconfig and check the IP address assigned?
wich encryption are you using to secure the connection?
no the only message i get is when i open a page it says it cannot load it
i tried restarting the router but nothing helps
lets start at the basics and work our way up,
go to settings, wireless en network, and wi-fi settings.
check if Wi-Fi is turned on. if so, look a little bit below this in the wi-fi networks section, does your network SSID show up? any info listed if you check that?
if nothing show's up, try add Wi-FI network.
if all this is working properly. and you still can't go on the internet, we'll move on.
Is this the first time you have used your router?
Try with the security off if that works turn it back on and try again had to do this a few times with some of my old routers.

do you use DHCP? if so, a change in lease time doesn't help? if not, enable DHCP

Does your router filter out unrecognised MAC addresses. I set my router to allow access to only recognised MAC's. Try looking for a MAC Address Filter on your router.
no mac filtering is turned off
Have you assigned manual IP's?
no manualy ip
Check what ip address your phone has should be the same as your router except the last bit eg.
Router 192.168.1.1
Phone 192.168.1.3
If not they can't talk as on different domains.
If they are ok try pinging your phone from your router (if you can) or use your computer

What router are you using?
Hi folks! since tonight i've a problem with my tab, apparently without reasons, it don't connect with my adsl router...
I've reboot tab, reboot router and flashed tas firmware
someone can help me?
Obviously there must be some changes that you don't remember...Have you tried different router? Which authentication method do you use? WEP, WPA? Try changing them?
Had the exact same problem with my Tab. It connected to my Linksys WRT54GS immediately after inputting the key code when I first got it, worked flawlessly for 2-3 days, then just would not connect anymore.
Spent a lot of time with Sprint and Samsung tech support, but they only could offer the "Factory Reset" option, but still were unsure if that would cure it. I have about seven devices that connect through this router - TV, printer, EVO, laptop, etc. and they all were connecting perfectly so I knew it wasn't the router.
Funny thing was, it would always connect to any open wifi I tried ie. Starbucks, etc. It just had problems with my home WAP-WPA secured router.
I set up a static IP on the router and that seemed to work and the Tab would connect again for a day or so, then again lost the ability to connect. I switched back from static IP to the normal config, and for whatever reason, the Tab connected and has been connecting ever since without issue.

Yes! i've tried your suggestion and now it work, thank you so much!
My Wifi connected to my home router perfectly until I flashed the custom rom.
Now it wont work. the phone recognizes my network, then tries to connect but it pauses at the obtaining ip address bit and doesn't connect?
I tried to restart the router. It doesn't work.
I tried to reflash the rom or offical rom (KE7). It doesn't work.
I also tried to delete the file /data/misc/dhcp/dhcp_list, but there are no "dhcp_list" file inside 'dhcp'
Do anyone have another way to solve this problem?
Thanks
Could be a problem with the router, are other devices able to acquire IP addresses from it correctly?
Perhaps you should assign a static IP to see if that makes a difference.
I am on KE7 stock rom with root and had this problem too. It just started yesterday and got stuck at obtaining ip adress. So I switched WIFI off and flight mode on and after some seconds wifi on and flight mode off and it connected. I also noticed that now sometimes when it is in standby it disconnects from the wifi network (but wifi is still ON) and when I wake it up it connects to my network.
Me too, same problem.
If wifi is ruled on "sleep when screen turn off", it don't wake when screen turn on.
It stay on " searching for IP adress...".
For the moment, I'm forced to leave wifi on "never" and I use Juice defender for disabling wifi on screen off.
I really think it's a common pb with SGS 2. May be it will be fixed with 2.3.4.
Same problem. I 'fix' it by turning off wifi then turning it back on and it gets an IP address immediately.
same problem here with a dlink dir-615 router. from time to time the phone can't get an ip, and it only works if i reboot the router. didn't try with another router yet ( well, i connected to a few more but not frequent so i can see if there are problems), but i ordered a new one anyways since the dlink also crushes my battery too.
try posting the brand/model of the router you have problems with, maybe there's some specific ones that are troublesome.
d-link dir-615 here / ke7 stock - rooted
I also have a dlink router. But I get the same problem with a Belkin.
With my first SGS, no problem. I really think it's a specific issue on SGS2.
I'd read in some place that 2.3.4 will fix some wifi problem known for the moment on 2.3.3...
Let's see...
I'm seeing this with both my home router (Netgear WNDR3700) and my office router. Disabling & re-enabling WiFi on the SGS2 solves it -- fortunately, it's easily accessible on the notifications panel.
Same thing with Dlink dir 815.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
Same thing here with Draytek 2820 router, all other devices (PC's Phones, PDA's etc) have no problem. SGS2 however needs WiFi turning off when waking from sleep to get it to obtain an IP address again. However my HD2 also running Gingerbread 2.3.3 works faultlessly.
KF2 seems, for me and some others, fix the problem...
hi
lucky me, i thought im the only 1 having problem with wifi
my problem, same as the others

it will scan again, same thing will happened

im on KF1 using dlink 615

Just got my Galaxy S2 today. Cannot connect to wifi network on G or mixed mode, with or without security - just tries to obtain an IP address. Ridiculous.
Any help ? Quick search on Google doesn't bring up too much. There does seem to be an app called "FXR Wifi" but I don't expect to use that on a brand new phone.
Update: Upgraded my router's firmware (WRT54GS) and it works !
I have the same problem with my SGS 2. I can't connect to an AP - NETGEAR DG834G.
I found a partial solution to use my phone with my AP until I solve the problem. In the Wi-Fi settings menu enter Advanced mod and set the IP address, Gateway, Netmask, DNS1 manualy (by touching <Use static IP>). If you don't know what IPs you have to set for IP address, Gateway, etc. just connect with you laptop or desktop and use the settings from your computer. Just make sure you type a different IP address in your mobile (not the one from your computer - for example in you computer you'll find something like this: 192.168.0.3, you'll have to type in your mobile something like this: 192.168.0.10). The rest of the settings have to be identical.
Good luck!
To solve this "obtaining ip address problem". Set the following manually in the advanced configuration and save it.
1. ip address(your choice).
2. subnet mask(255.255.255.0).
3. default gateway(192.168.1.1).
4. dns servers(8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4)
Note: The above given values are the most commonly used, you change it if you want so.
After entering these values manually(and correctly), it will connect to the networ in 1 or 2 seconds.
like mine SG s2, wifi connects works perfectly at home and friends place,
