[Q] Wifi problem - Desire HD General

i'm having trouble connecting my dhd to wifi. it can connect but i cant surf to any pages?
can someone help me?

any error message available?
have you tried restarting the router and then try again?
if fails, could you use an terminal emulator to type in ifconfig and check the IP address assigned?
wich encryption are you using to secure the connection?

no the only message i get is when i open a page it says it cannot load it

i tried restarting the router but nothing helps

lets start at the basics and work our way up,
go to settings, wireless en network, and wi-fi settings.
check if Wi-Fi is turned on. if so, look a little bit below this in the wi-fi networks section, does your network SSID show up? any info listed if you check that?
if nothing show's up, try add Wi-FI network.
if all this is working properly. and you still can't go on the internet, we'll move on.

Is this the first time you have used your router?
Try with the security off if that works turn it back on and try again had to do this a few times with some of my old routers.

i'm not totally a noob
i activated wifi and saw my ssid, i entered my wep-key and tried to connect. it receives my ipadress (it says it) and then says its connected...

i use this router more then a year and with other phones it was never a problem.
only with this phone.
last phones were SGS and dell streak now this one and problem.

Have you tried turning off security?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

yes i tried it without security but still nothing

do you use DHCP? if so, a change in lease time doesn't help? if not, enable DHCP
what about other networks? do they work?
(switch bands to another supported wifi band, if you use N, try G???)

a friend said that dhcp should be disabled?

It gives out the up address to all your equipment and should be on

i tried turning it on but still nothing

Does your router filter out unrecognised MAC addresses. I set my router to allow access to only recognised MAC's. Try looking for a MAC Address Filter on your router.

no mac filtering is turned off

Have you assigned manual IP's?

no manualy ip

Check what ip address your phone has should be the same as your router except the last bit eg.
Router 192.168.1.1
Phone 192.168.1.3
If not they can't talk as on different domains.
If they are ok try pinging your phone from your router (if you can) or use your computer

WI-FI Problem

Hi All,
i switch wi-fi on and the phone find the access point and connect to it. But it doesn't navigate to the net or market or anything else. Otherwise if I use the 3G it works perfectly. Just try to initialize it twice. Same problem.
Some suggestions?

Hmmm, could be a multitude of different things. A few questions:
1 Are you rooted?
2 What security settings do you have on your router?
3 Have you ever been able to connect to the web thru your router?
Answer them and I will try to help.

Hi MrZak,
1) phone is not rooted, unboxed 16 hours ago;
3) I always use the router with a mac and a pc on windows xp
2) I do have some doubt about the router (it's a cisco linksys). Even iPad has several connection problem BUT, i tried a different router last night (3Com) and it doesn't work too while iPad works fine.
Firstly, update the phone from:
Settings / About Phone / System Software Updates
If that doesn't help, try a factory reset.
Also, when you go into your router settings is the phone showing up under devices?

It could be a simple IP problem. Try with static address and see if you can access your LAN and internet.

It doesn't work BUT... I tried with the 3com router this morning doing a simple "restore default" in browser web. It worked. I tried to do the same at home with the Cisco Linksys router and... it doesn't work. Could it be the router?

Can you please try to put a static address and ping it from the local network. Preferably ping it from a computer that is connected to the router via cable rather than wireless. If you can ping it, the problem is definately with the router. Also please check if you have MAC security enabled on the router. If you do, you'll have to add the DHD's MAC address to the table.
EDIT: Or you can try to install ping from the market and see if you can ping your router.

I installed the pinger from the market. Anything to ping. It states "WIFI network may block outgoing ping request". Simply WiFi on the phone doesn't work . Any suggestion?

Try connecting through an unsecured network like some coffee's hotspot and if it still doesn't work, it's faulty. Until then, it's more likely to be your network setup.
Edit: just read your previous posts again. You say that it worked with the 3Com router, so it's not a problem with the phone. Check the security settings on the Cisco router. Check if it's using AAA/RADIUS server, MAC table, etc. The fact that it connects but no traffic passes through is symptomatic to a security problem, not a hardware one.

I had exactly the same problem, turned out it was my bt hub, a quick restore to defaults on my hub sorted the problem out.

Sorry for the late reply, yes reset the router

Set up your devices ip manually I get this a lot because dhcp keeps assigning the same addresses to different devices

[Q] Tab vs wifi [Solved]

Hi folks! since tonight i've a problem with my tab, apparently without reasons, it don't connect with my adsl router...
I've reboot tab, reboot router and flashed tas firmware
someone can help me?
Obviously there must be some changes that you don't remember...Have you tried different router? Which authentication method do you use? WEP, WPA? Try changing them?
Had the exact same problem with my Tab. It connected to my Linksys WRT54GS immediately after inputting the key code when I first got it, worked flawlessly for 2-3 days, then just would not connect anymore.
Spent a lot of time with Sprint and Samsung tech support, but they only could offer the "Factory Reset" option, but still were unsure if that would cure it. I have about seven devices that connect through this router - TV, printer, EVO, laptop, etc. and they all were connecting perfectly so I knew it wasn't the router.
Funny thing was, it would always connect to any open wifi I tried ie. Starbucks, etc. It just had problems with my home WAP-WPA secured router.
I set up a static IP on the router and that seemed to work and the Tab would connect again for a day or so, then again lost the ability to connect. I switched back from static IP to the normal config, and for whatever reason, the Tab connected and has been connecting ever since without issue.
If it keeps cycling through Connecting and Obtaining IP Address when you try to connect then try deleting the file /data/misc/dhcp/dhcp_list

Wi-fi problem connecting

Ok so I can connect to my home network just fine.. its a wireless netgear. Then I go to my fathers house and I try to connect to his network and it says authenticating... rendering... disabled! Then in the wireless network list it says the network is "disabled, secured...". Same thing happened with the neighbors wifi. Something I'm missing? I know the password is right so its not that... and I'm almost cretin its not the router ..
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
just a random thought, have you checked that the mac adress filtering isnt enabled on your fathers router and neighbor. like i said just random and maybe something to look at,,,
I dont think so because their lap top connects just fine
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
okay, but they might have their router settup to allow the lap top and block all others. give it a check in the router settings, or i have come across some routers that just needed to be power cycled/rebooted and phone connected fine afterwards,, maybe give that a try.
Well since i set up both their networks i know that that is not the case. In any event I will try to power cycle the router.

Wifi obtaining ip address....

My Wifi connected to my home router perfectly until I flashed the custom rom.
Now it wont work. the phone recognizes my network, then tries to connect but it pauses at the obtaining ip address bit and doesn't connect?
I tried to restart the router. It doesn't work.
I tried to reflash the rom or offical rom (KE7). It doesn't work.
I also tried to delete the file /data/misc/dhcp/dhcp_list, but there are no "dhcp_list" file inside 'dhcp'
Do anyone have another way to solve this problem?
Thanks
Could be a problem with the router, are other devices able to acquire IP addresses from it correctly?
Perhaps you should assign a static IP to see if that makes a difference.
I am on KE7 stock rom with root and had this problem too. It just started yesterday and got stuck at obtaining ip adress. So I switched WIFI off and flight mode on and after some seconds wifi on and flight mode off and it connected. I also noticed that now sometimes when it is in standby it disconnects from the wifi network (but wifi is still ON) and when I wake it up it connects to my network.
Me too, same problem.
If wifi is ruled on "sleep when screen turn off", it don't wake when screen turn on.
It stay on " searching for IP adress...".
For the moment, I'm forced to leave wifi on "never" and I use Juice defender for disabling wifi on screen off.
I really think it's a common pb with SGS 2. May be it will be fixed with 2.3.4.
Same problem. I 'fix' it by turning off wifi then turning it back on and it gets an IP address immediately.
same problem here with a dlink dir-615 router. from time to time the phone can't get an ip, and it only works if i reboot the router. didn't try with another router yet ( well, i connected to a few more but not frequent so i can see if there are problems), but i ordered a new one anyways since the dlink also crushes my battery too.
try posting the brand/model of the router you have problems with, maybe there's some specific ones that are troublesome.
d-link dir-615 here / ke7 stock - rooted
I also have a dlink router. But I get the same problem with a Belkin.
With my first SGS, no problem. I really think it's a specific issue on SGS2.
I'd read in some place that 2.3.4 will fix some wifi problem known for the moment on 2.3.3...
Let's see...
I'm seeing this with both my home router (Netgear WNDR3700) and my office router. Disabling & re-enabling WiFi on the SGS2 solves it -- fortunately, it's easily accessible on the notifications panel.
Same thing with Dlink dir 815.

Same thing here with Draytek 2820 router, all other devices (PC's Phones, PDA's etc) have no problem. SGS2 however needs WiFi turning off when waking from sleep to get it to obtain an IP address again. However my HD2 also running Gingerbread 2.3.3 works faultlessly.
KF2 seems, for me and some others, fix the problem...
hi
lucky me, i thought im the only 1 having problem with wifi
my problem, same as the others
the wifi try to connect (obtaining IP) and then disconnected
it will scan again, same thing will happened
try with all type of protocols, wifi b,g,n wep, wpa, no passwd
results still same
try to connect wifi at my office, results also the same
im on KF1 using dlink 615
hopefully someone can help us
tq
Just got my Galaxy S2 today. Cannot connect to wifi network on G or mixed mode, with or without security - just tries to obtain an IP address. Ridiculous.
Any help ? Quick search on Google doesn't bring up too much. There does seem to be an app called "FXR Wifi" but I don't expect to use that on a brand new phone.
Update: Upgraded my router's firmware (WRT54GS) and it works !
I have the same problem with my SGS 2. I can't connect to an AP - NETGEAR DG834G.
I found a partial solution to use my phone with my AP until I solve the problem. In the Wi-Fi settings menu enter Advanced mod and set the IP address, Gateway, Netmask, DNS1 manualy (by touching <Use static IP>). If you don't know what IPs you have to set for IP address, Gateway, etc. just connect with you laptop or desktop and use the settings from your computer. Just make sure you type a different IP address in your mobile (not the one from your computer - for example in you computer you'll find something like this: 192.168.0.3, you'll have to type in your mobile something like this: 192.168.0.10). The rest of the settings have to be identical.
Good luck!
To solve this "obtaining ip address problem". Set the following manually in the advanced configuration and save it.
1. ip address(your choice).
2. subnet mask(255.255.255.0).
3. default gateway(192.168.1.1).
4. dns servers(8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4)
Note: The above given values are the most commonly used, you change it if you want so.
After entering these values manually(and correctly), it will connect to the networ in 1 or 2 seconds.
like mine SG s2, wifi connects works perfectly at home and friends place,
but stucks at obtaining ipaddress for wifi, at the mall and college, ( where it needs first login page for authentication) ( or to agree user terms and regulation),
any idea, how to fix this issue.
Thanks
mine also does this where it doesn't get an ip. Reboot your router or just disable and re-enable the access point feature on the router and it should work without having to reboot it

but at university?college or mall, we dont have access to router.
any other idea to fix this
Thanks

Expected it is not any Hardware issue, it seems your pb is related to your PW. try desabling it from your router (just a short time for test) or go to a free wifi place to check.
Also keyboard issue, do you use the standard one?
good luck

Had this issue before with a bunch of Samsung phones turns out I had so many devices trying to use the same IP address set up by my router. I had to reset my router and assign each device its own IP address.

May also need to check the routers settings for maximum allowed wireless devices, or maximum dhcp users.

The obvious thing in your router configuration is that connections are being restricted to a list of hardware mac addresses.

The obvious is that jour Nexus 7 is not working properly, I had exactly the same behaviour tested many changes on my wifi settings, teathering from my phone...=> went back to the shop for an exchange and the new one was working perfectly
