Our phone is the same as the Incredible so by picking it your essentially picking the EVO as well. I would say Verizon probably pays for more advertising on their site then Sprint does.

As far as I know, the epic still hasn't received froyo. Not to mention it feels like a cheap chinese toy. They can have the screen. I did a side by side video comparison with my buddy's epic and while the colors are far more vibrant, the picture on mine seemed a lot sharper. There still isn't an Android phone out that I'd rather own.

The EVO is better then the incredible in many ways,
-Front facing camera
-Battery has more mAH
-Kickstand
-4g
Giz has realy gone downhill fast imo
I wont go to that website much now, even reading other articles I attempt to define the individuals that they were written for and I dont think it matches their fanbase, I like to think its a geeky technofile type website but they cater to average joe/soccer mom types that I doubt know the website exists
Seriously? You guys are hating on them for not choosing the EVO? Personally, I would take the Samsung screen over the EVO any day. The EVO is definitely not my favorite Android phone (that would be the Nexus One), but it does get the job done. Even running other ROMs, the EVO (aside from 4G and the ginormous screen) doesn't quite compare to many other Androids out there, at least one of which was made by HTC. What I think they gave people is the best of the touchscreens and keyboard selections. Not that I condone their choices...I personally hate proprietary Samsung almost as much as I hate gimmicky Motorola...but to each their own.
Never underestimate the power of a bought off impartial review. Any analysis can be skewed by giving more importance to the strong points of the entry you want to win.
Personally I prefer 2.2 over iridescence, function over form.
I had an epic. Yes its a nice phone and all but I got tired of the bulk due to the keyboard. It is very fast and has a great screen. Well I traded the epic for an evo and so far the evo is just as fast. The sceen colors are not as vibrant but the evo screen is sharper. All in all both are great phones but I prefer the evo.

Epic...ok whatever...
but INCREDIBLE???? WTH??? Its the same as the EVO but less of a phone. Do not understand.
Bleh who cares what they say. I dont really care, I have already chosen the phone fore me.
There are some pros and cons that make the Epic good, especially the hardware.
I just love how the EVO beat all those phones in the CNet Prizefight and is the undefeated so far.

Here's a simple little Python script which describes how Gizmodo makes their articles:
Code:
If brand == "Apple":
print("IT'S AWESOME! GO BUY IT NOW! SELL YOUR SOUL, SELL YOUR KIDNEYS, JUST GET IT!")
elif brand == "Samsung":
print("It's OK.")
elif type == "device":
print("Meh. Here's a half-assed review we extrapolated from spending five minutes with it at Best Buy, and Wikipedia/the manufacturer's website.")
else:
print("Here's what our basement monkey wrote in ten minutes after Googling various keywords that may or may not be related, and the other twenty dozen tech blogs which also came out with an article about the same thing a day before we did.")
opinions are like a$$holes, everybody has one! Who really cares what Giz or Engadget think. You like your Evo, I like my Evo, and devs obviously like their/our Evos. That's all that really matters.
At least they aren't as bad as ign

Compared the EVO next to the new iphone... and they dimmed the screen almost all the way. Ummm... How are you doing anyone a favor by comparing a dimmed phone to a phone on full brightness? At that screen size, I think they are going for a fictional effect with their screen pixel count. I highly doubt its THAT much better than the EVO... You can only see so many pixels..

yeah im not really surprised either!
yea im not surprised by there botched review of one sided bull crap. regardless of the resolution on the iphone the EVO has much more goign for it in my book mainly not At&t and of course Android!
lol engadget, I wonder how much they got paid to make the iphone look better. Also, I bet it just slipped their mind that the evo supports flash and the iphone doesn't.
Isn't engadget and AOL company, that should say enough about them to not always trust their reviews.
LOL...whiners...why do you care about engadget...focus on what you know you like
Engadget had a positive review for the Evo 4G
from what i read engadget is really favorable towards anything apple/iphone.
Even though i think the new iphone is great, the evo seems to inch ahead with better features.
I did a review of the Evo earlier today and tried to get people to understand that the iPhone is an awesome phone, but limited by the network. With AT&T supporting it, you are going to be very limited. In my opinion what makes the Evo so great...is the network. Without the network the Evo would be another smart phone with a slick UI.

in all fairness engadget usually isnt that bad, although i agree that that comparison pic of the iphone left a bad taste in my mouth.
also, engadget does have an apple free version for those that really hate apple
Engadget has always favored Apple. They always seem to throw slick little comments after a what seems to be a good review to kind of downplay the article.

and for what it's worth, while they tend to favor the iphone (mostly topolsky) engadget's reviews of android phones are typically spot on. if anything they seem to have an excessive hardon for webOS.
in any case engadget for news and ars for editorials kick the **** out of gizmodo
I like Engadget, but they are biased. Look at how many IPhone articles they had after the announcement. I believe it held 5 headlines/stories on the front page alone. Silly.
yea.. I would agree that engadget is full of apple fan boys
in a comparison chart I saw that it advertised the iphone as having wireless n capability.. I thought I read on here that the EVO has that too, but the current software doesn't support it.. maybe froyo will?
wow, engadgets coverage of the iphone 4 keynote was ridiculous. they posted all the info in one post, then broke every piece into 10 different posts so that apple fanboys can read that many more headlines.
Hey guys, I am a launch day Evo user. I really loved my phone but I lost it after some time. I went back to my Pre back up phone for a little while.
Last week Best Buy had the Epic for $125 with 2 year upgrade so I thought I'd try it. Well here I sit with the Epic and honestly I'm not impressed with the 4 rom options I have. I feel like the Evo had impeccable support and a great community. The Epic just seems like a joke.
Well now I have a brand new evo and a week old epic. Which should I keep? TIA

I didn't mention that I love the Epic screen and the HD video decoding.
I wouldn't base your decision on the 4 ROM options currently available for the Epic. I would guess the dev community is waiting for Froyo to get down to serious business. Having said that, the dev community for the Evo is going to give you a lot more options even in the long run. If that's your primary distinguishing factor, the Evo should be your choice, but I would expect the dev community to pick it up for the Epic after Froyo is released.
Samsungs support sucks plain and simple. Case in point, the Froyo debacle. We're right around the corner for Gingerbread and Samsungs top phone line still doesnt have a current OS. If its taken this long to get froyo imagine how long it'll take to get Gingerbread. Theyre always one step behind.
Yes the screen on that phone is ridiculous and Id love to have it but Id rather have a better OS and access to new apps. Let alone the dev community for the EVO is HUGE and one of the best Samsung dev's is running an EVO and building for it.
I have said this before and now I'm saying it again because my opinion hasn't changed. The EPIC has a fantastic looking display. But it feels cheap. Now someone once didn't know what cheap feels like. So when your walking around in Vegas and a smoking hot prostitute walks up and says she is $2,000 and you pick the lady in the alley for $50 bucks that is what cheap feels like. It also felt awkward to me for some reason. If I had a choice it would be the EVO.
Well, since you seem to be basing your decision on what the people here say... I say, go with the EVO.
But in reality, it's up to your own personal preference.
If customization is what your looking for, of course the evo. U could deal without hd decoding and if u want a pretty display just turn ur brightness all the way up lol. I love my Evo thats why u should continue to rock wit. Best HTC phone out.

Was it just me? When I went to the Sprint store to compare the Evo to the Epic in person, I thought the Evo screen looked better. To me, the Epic had oversaturated colors, and I could see a dot-matrix like dithering effect on the SuperAMOLED screen.
It was most noticeable when browsing the web on the Epic; when I looked at the grey parts of the UI of the browser, I saw little dots and dithering everywhere.
Even though the scrolling and video was noticeably smoother on the Epic, the dithering of the screen bothered me so much that I bought the Evo.
I don't like the epics look just seems like a girl phone.

The sAMOLED screen used on the Epic is far from amazing. It has a blueish hue all over like it came straight out of planet pandora(Avatar). And text isn't anywhere as crisp as the evo.. Look closely and you can see thousands of small dots all over the screen.
Colors are nice but unnatural and over-saturated.
sAMOLED = Overrated marketing gimmick

Not so entirely accurate but we all have our own opinions on the subject the sAMOLED screen is nicer but it lacks a high enough pixel count to make it worth anything I work at sprint and I play with the epic all day and when I go home im not upset that I have an EVO its only 64000 colors compared to 16000000 but im not butthurt when I have hdmi out bad ass roms and as much support as I could ever need

What do you expect. They make toaster ovens, refrigerators, washing machines..... and phones. I'd say, from a support standpoint, they're probably stretched a little thin.
The galaxy s series of phones are going to receive the update directly to gingerbread most likely bypassing froyo where the EVO will not receive a second major update to gingerbread it happens only once in the lifetime of an android phone having said that; the EVO is better. STILL.

I would definately agree with everyone except one thing. The new Nexus S is confirmed to be a Samsung device. Once this happens there is going to be a flurry of developers working on the Samsung... So as far as community support and customization I think the Samsung could be there shortly with this new Nexus...
When I saw a picture of the Nexus S, I thought, what a ugly phone. Then, I saw that it's made by Samsung, nothing against Samsung but to me their phones are cheap The phone doesn't deserve the Nexus name. IMO HTC makes the best phones. I have three friends that have Galaxy S's, and their always asking me for my N1, to use my navigation, and make phone calls, because they're always losing their signal, and their GPS is screwy, plus they have ****ty battery life, so they live on their chargers. I keep telling them to root, but they want me to do it for them, I stopped rooting peoples phones who refuse to educate themselves about rooting, because they're always calling you with problems, because they don't understand. Another thing, I was thinking about buying the Evo, but my friend has it and the resolution is crap, the colors are dull, almost to the point of transparency, I think HTC focused too much on having the biggest screen, so I won't be buying that crap, I thought that all the high-end android devices after the N1 would blow us out, but have done nothing except confirm that I made the right choice with my Sexy Nexy, so we'll be together a little while longer. I thought the N2 would go in the direction of the Desire look, that's a classy phone, that has a professional look for older gents like myself, I'm very disappointed that Google gave Samsung the contract.

hmm yeah that will be it. so samsungs crappy build is no longer a concern.
the "ill never buy a samdung" brigade have scuttled back under there rocks.
Is it possible its something as simple as google wanting to continue use of a amoled screen capable phone for dev. phone purposes? I mean thats one of the main interest points ive noticed when anyone sees my N1. Everyone says "wow the screen is so crisp". Seeing how samsung took amoled away from everyone else just kind of makes sense on googles part if that be the case.
Nothing against HTC, they make great phones but i just wonder if use of amoled is more paramount than most give credit for. Look at it this way, all phone makers can more or less make the same kind of phones hardware wise. Only difference being is samsungs ability to use amoled. Just a thought , nothing more.
i read on here that HTC said the N1 would be thier first and last phone designed for a non carrier and that is why google had to go else where. I'd have prefered motorola, but samsung is an ok 2nd choice. HTC would obviously have been my first but they are out of the question. All i really care about is vanilla android with updates from google, a nice sized screen, good hardware, and a nice design.
the nexus S has all of the above minus the nice design...but it has helped me realize that the design weights a lot more in my purchasing decision than I had previously thought. I dont see myself buying a nexus s if it looks like the leaks orion processor or not

Is it lacking somewhere for you, what would've been the extra or different push to pry the old EVO from you?
I have to admit, I've gotten a bit comfortable now with the MikG 2.1 3.0 update but its making this EVO easier to sell for me towards getting it.
I'm in the same boat as you. I feel the whole 3D thing is a phase that won't last. 3D got big in the 50s then faded out now its back. It will fade again. I also don't like all the new hardware buttons.
I would honestly like to see an EVO 2. Same basic design (except the poke out camera) yet with better hardware. I really love everything about this phone. I used to sell phones so I've had them all and haven't ever been happy. This phone really struck every chord with me. I got mine on release date and swapped for a 004 and its the longest I've ever had the same style phone. I plan to hold on to it untill something comes out that really fits the bill.
I will play with an EVO 3D though

I want to see if they launch any dual cores greater than 1.2 ghz before the the end of the year. Realistically 1ghz is perfect for what I use my phone for but might as well go all out lol. Ill just use my evo until I figure it out but im not getting evo 3D.
I will be getting this phone.

2. It has a great design and I actually like that its a bit taller and slim.

There are a few selling points to this phone that help lift it, theoretically, over the Evo. My largest concern is the same concern that plagued the Evo, however:
Battery life.
I understand that you can activate 3D at whim, but I'm more interested in the effect Sense 3 has on battery, and how much those dual 1.2s will actually help. Ultimately, I'd need to see reviews before I even give this a look. Until then, SGS II is more on my radar than anything else.
Something else that comes to mind is it's lack of access to the PlayStation Store (or w/e it's called.) I know it's obvious that HTC doesn't have access to itbut I'm a gamer at heart and once they put out a HDMI-mirroring device with PS1 titles I'll probably blow a load, and all of the money in my wallet. (emulators don't count... unless they run on HDMI at decent speeds.)

After using a Sense 3.0 rom im not so sure that the battery life is going to improve as compared to being a little bit better for what youre getting. Every Sense 3.0 rom ive run has killed the battery amazingly fast. I think they had to make the battery bigger because if they didnt, with as much of a memory hog as the rom would be the battery probably wouldve been even worse than the Evo.
I was all about this phone for the longest time until I started seeing some of the reviews for it. Its just another evo, with some extra bells and whistles. I love my evo, of course, but to shell out money for another one a year before my upgrade, I don't see it happening. Plus I can live without a 3D screen. I guess we'll see in a few weeks.
Would the dual-core processor help battery life or hurt it? I can see it one of two ways, the processor doesnt have to work as hard, OR the battery has to power A DUAL-CORE PROCESSOR.
Meh,not that impressed.I think i'll pass.
SGS2 here i come!

It looks like it is a cheap version of the other HTC phones with a gimmick screen. I was seriously tempted by it, but I am hearing other news that it is a decent phone that feels cheap compared to the predecessor...Dont get me wrong, i hate the plastic on the Nexus S, but, for a "flagship" phone, plastic optics sound crappy.

I wouldn't speak to build quality until you can hold one, to engadget anything short of the iphone is a giant piece of crap to them.

Oh really? they gave great reviews of the Galaxy S2 + Sensation
Don't be pissed because they're bashing on HTC.
We as Android users make fun of Apple fan boys. But all in honesty, there are some Android fanboys too who stick to HTC, Samsung, and so on. I'm a victim of this, I prefer Samsung devices.
Surprising, I'll go check them out. I typically don't read engadget reviews unless someone posts one.

I'd post them but reviews for other phones aren't relevant.

For a handset with such a broad range of standout features and specs, the Galaxy S II is remarkably easy to summarize. It's the best Android smartphone yet, but more importantly, it might well be the best smartphone, period. Of course, a 4.3-inch screen size won't suit everyone, no matter how stupendously thin the device that carries it may be, and we also can't say for sure that the Galaxy S II would justify a long-term iOS user foresaking his investment into one ecosystem and making the leap to another. Nonetheless, if you're asking us what smartphone to buy today, unconstrained by such externalities, the Galaxy S II would be the clear choice. Sometimes it's just as simple as that.

That doesn't seem too biased whatsoever. Yes, they had a harsh review on the HTC EVO 3D but honestly, I'll have to agree with them. The "3D" phone doesn't attract me and the specs don't either.

Fanbois always complain, but to be honest, Apple does a lot right with their stuff and, generally, the praise is warranted. For the majority of people Android is "different" and not as comfortable as the dead simple Apple solution...
I am more amazed that the EVO3D was so mediocre in so many areas. People ***** about the Nexus S lacking 720p video, single core, etc...but the phone "just works" without needing all the gimmicks.
i know most benchmarks are meaningless, but i am sure the Dual Core push is due to ****ty coding on Sense/TW/Blur...My Nexus S crushes my wife's Epic and they are virtually the same core hardware.

The Dual core push is "bad" because they're running on software that is not yet optimized for Dual Core processors. The only things optimized for dual cores are Honeycomb and the upcoming Ice Cream Sandwich. But even then, Quadrant isn't optimized for Dual Cores. So like you said, Benchmarks mean nothing.
Also, they're running on Android 2.2 for the most part! LoL
That rubber will be peeling off after a couple months. Booo htc!

That review doesn't surprise me at all. It will be a pile of crap phone. Watch...

Man I pr-ordered the evo 3d at best buy last week and unrooted my nexus but man I cant let this thing go. I love this phone and I told my gf last night that imma stick with the ns4g. This phone feels good to own and I can't go to sense from aosp. I keep looking at the evo3d and it just looks ugly and gimmicky. I wish sprint got the sensation instead...

Even though the photon is gonna be locked down it will be a way better dual core device. I would wait on that instead of buying the 3D

It will, but having a locked bootloader kills it. Not interested.

Nope, it won't. A lot of random hate for HTC in this thread considering how poorly Samsung phones have been compared to HTC.

This is the only Samsung phone I've had luck with. I'm 50/50 on swapping for the evo 3d. HTC phones tend to be heavy and for me that really kills it.
