Hi all,
Now that you can grab the official 2.2 ROM (thanks devs!!), what would you class the main reasons for running it, over something like Azure, which we've had for some time?
Please list your reasons here, as I really can't see the need to change from Azure?! This is what I can think of...
- For Sense
- For Radio (FM, etc)
- For working WiFi
Root can void warranty?

During the last month and a half I have used Azure, CM nighlies and CM 6.1 RC1. Today I flashed the official 2.2 ROM update. I was very impressed by CM because of its speed and smoothness, especially CM 6.1RC1. The benchmark tests give almost identical results. Having in mind that CM is using the old .29 kernel I think it will get higher performance levels with the new .32 kernel. The only things I really miss on CM is the Sense dialer and the Sense weather widget. I really cannot tell which is better. The more ROMs available the better! I think it will be great if someone could implement dual-boot for the Legend
The obvious one being sense - I love it.
Working FM Radio, GPS, and Bluetooth (unlike most custom 2.2's I've used recently)
Working Market Place
Live wallpapers as standard
Better Radio (improved reception and wifi)
Ability to move programs to SD card without reformatting (a2sd)
Oh and the only program I used to root for is already built in - Flashlight! - its much better than any variants I've used before (3 light brightness settings etc).
oh and more HTC sensey widgets available too and WIFI hotspot program built in as standard
and I prefer the standard HTC keyboard instead of the bogstandard android one
Freedom of choice, ain't it great!
I like sense, I like not having to reformat my sd card to move apps. I tried launcher pro plus (bought it) and adw, bought beautiful widgets expecting more from it but was disappointed.

Couldn't agree more. Also, having your wifi work is kinda nice.
Wifi is working loads better now, the new drivers are awesome.
I am actually not that impressed with the 2.2 update but I wasn`t expecting too much either.
The WiFi reception is great of course and a major plus. The camera is also very smooth and overall speed is superior to the old kernel. The list of official Froyo only features I need ends here though.
On the other hand...
- I don't mind reformating my SD Card to use App2SD
- I am not enough into FB or Twitter to "need" the Sense widgets
- Never used the FM radio before rooting and probably never will
- Already replaced the official keyboard with SlideIt
- I really hate not being able to clean up my app drawer
- The Froyo dock is ugly and lacks usability. LauncherPro and ADW are way better.
- I have freshly cleaned windows and my neck is flexible enough to check the weather myself. If I am already standing outside in the rain, I don't need my phone to tell me that my haircut is in danger.
- The flip clock is way too dominant for my taste. I prefer TypoClock's purity
- Pure Calendar Widget > HTC Calendar Widget
- Barnacle Wifi Tether works just fine. No urgent neccessity for the the official Hotspot feature. Other then that I don't mind using the USB cable to tether if I am already carrying the laptop with me. Wouldn't know who else to tether for anyways.
- No homescreen rotation with the official ROM
- I don't need 3 different settings for the flashlight. The one coming with Cyanogen is good enough. Just let there be light.
- CyanogenMod can be customized and has a lot of useful setting that you can't change with the official Froyo
Of course I am happy that we finally received the update but only to see the new kernel and radio (and maybe some other Froyo goodies) in one of the next CM releases.

-Offcial = stable. There will be no "not working/won't fix" list. It uses newest drivers, CM is still far behind.
-Everything in Sense is chained : Contacts ~ Facebook/Twitter/Flickr ~ Gallery ~ Calendar/Agenda ~ Clock/Weather
- Official Froyo Quadrant's pts = Azure's pts (800~900)
- And ofcourse, the infamous FM Radio rocks!
My biggest reason to use an official is Sense. I love the Clock widgets because I have several timezones to keep track of, and I love them to all be visible on my first home screen. I can see the time where I am in the status bar, my home in the USA, and for my girlfriend in Qatar. I could never find another app as good as HTC's clock when I was using CM-based ROMs.
The fact that whitetigerdk and Paul had the official ROM rooted in less than 24 hours after release gave me no reason not to move from Gratiend.
I like the stock ROM for few things. Have currently loaded Vodafone based ROM and no issues so far.
- Stable exchange connectivity (email APK in other custom ROMS stops working after couple of send/receive (push) - have tried almost everything. Maybe MoDoCo rom was kind of stable, but again it was based on the stock ROM.
- Wi-Fi tethering is perfect
- FM Radio
Finnally a stable and official rom
Yeah the main thing for me was getting exchange email working nicely.
Push mail (exchange) working fine on you guys' official froyo? I still find CM RC1 email apps to be better for my exchange push mail.
And actually one of the thing I missed the most from RC1 is notification power widget.
Official v.s. Custom
Hi,
I enjoy using the official rom because the GPS, FM Radio, Bluetooth, Wifi work. I use the FM Radio quite often. I prefer sense of the stock interface, everything just works nicely and fits in perfectly.
Regards
Remeez
My answer is short and simple: i won't switch to stock Froyo ROM no mather what happens
Now i'm running CM6.1 RC and extremely satisfied with. The only thing i'm missing is flash support.

I realised that stock HTC rom is better.
Androot STILL WORKS for softroots and give me the flexibility to do all i need to do with root access. (take snaps, clean cache, titanium backup, etc).
So while my country hasn't actually received the updates, i am looking forward to it.
True right now stock Froyo might be better. But when the cyanogenmod guys release gingerbread, that would be better.
The thing is that developers are always faster than HTC. Plus this might be the last update from HTC. Then stock will be far less than good enough.

Your speech sounds like pro linuxers over everything... maybe you don't need any goodies in your
Phone, so please buy a 3210 nokia then... weather in time widget is fun, useful sometimes and why not, we love to see our phones doing some eye candy. The way everything is linked is simply amazing... and maybe you don't use any social features.... but today people who want a smarphone is for social uses mainly.
Maybe a cell phone doesn't need radio feature 'per se ' but if the phone has, a why don't use it?? I'm sure more people than you think buy this phone because the radio....
Since I have my legend i install every rom was released and I loved them, but sense interface even tough if it swallow a lot of resources is a very good interface for a cell phone and it's copied in a lot of apps or widgets.... maybe your intention is not to be rude but you sound soooo rough....
Peace and long life for android...

Hi all,
I am now running on Oxygen 2.0.1 and am wondering if I can get Timescape working? I have tried to follow the instruction below (which is not designed for Desire) but that did not work except for the Digital Clock.

I am currently running on a modded Arc Launcher that gives me 7 homescreens.
Any ideas to make it work for all AOSP Rom (and possibly Sense ROM although the Sense themselves are pretty impressive already)?
Well.... working great on HD ported ROM (like InsertCoin or RCSMix).
Thanks for the links
I'd like to see this in a Desire rom..looks awesome, especially with the HTC clock.
I've tried with GingerVillain and works very well.
Hello. I tried the cyanogen 7 RC3. It is my first custom ROM I flashed...it is ok, the battery last double the time it last with stock sense rom. GPS still had problems but with a different radio things changed a lot....I could manage to get the fix in 10 seconds with GPS status.
I don't know why, but last days I couldn't get the fix anymore...rebooting, and so on...didn't help. Changing rom would help me see if the GPS gets a better fix or not.
Second reason I want to try a new rom is the contact management, calendar, facebook photo sync. These 3 things aren't really too well made on cyanogen...the contact list doesn't look as good as the sense one. Same thing for the calendar and the sync of the contacts with the various 'accounts' (google, facebook, SIM). I would like a rom with sense although it will be difficult to abandon the cyanogen gallery....which looks fantastic.
I am going to flash the MIUI to give it a try (just see what happens). But what rom could you suggest? Maybe with SENSE in it?
I don't find the interface important...I mean the interface is the last thing for me in a rom, I know I would always stick do ADW launcher EX for the home screens....what I find important is the rest (battery life, gps fix, contact and calendar management, photo gallery and camera).
I know sometimes some features can be replaced by 3rd party applications (SMS archive, camera software, and so on)...but some other features cannot.
I wait for your suggestions.
If u want sense then try leedroid v2.2.3... if no sense then try ultimate droid hD.. amazing rom.. im using it now and i dnt think il. Go back to sense roms

leedroid was the first rom I ever flashed it was great, but now I want to try others just to see what its like
That's the reason I keep coming back to Sense Roms, the contact managment and syncing through my different social media sites. And it just does it, flawlessly. I would try Android Revolution HD 3.5.
I like sense for the contacts, calendar and the facebook thing (I am no facebook addict but it is nice to have the photos of the contacts in the contact list...and that is automatically done by sense when syncing with the facebook account...ok some other roms do that too but how sense does it is just better).
I also like some sense applications and widgets....unfortunately the widgets are lost when I use ADW launcher ex....I love adw launcher for the high customized home screens, animations, and everything....but with this I lose the nice HTC widgets (contact widgets, calendar widgets). There are some other widgets on the market that can replace the HTC ones...but again, they are not as good.
So in my case there is a very big war between:
- contact and calendar management of sense
- ADW launcher and htc widgets
- the great things the cyanogen brought
- gingerbread and no sense
- some other details
So many interesting things which cannot live on the same device...at the same time...for instance MIUI looked very nice but had an awful gallery, too little customization on the home screen, but many things were very nice.
Try Android Revolution 3.6 i thing is the best...

ARHD 4.0
ARHD 4.0 Beta 4!! love it just waiting for the official gingerbread release so mike can make a rom with official gingerbread rom
ARHD 4.0 is old and outdated. other ginger sense roms are way better then ARHD 4.0 ( ARHD 3.6 is great tho)
Best ROMs imo:
FroYo Sense: ARHD 3.6 or CoreDroid
Ginger Sense: RCMixHD 5.9
AOSP: M-DJs Ultimate Droid

RCMix HD 5.9.7 is definitely one of the best, but you could also try CoreDroid HD GB 5.4 as well, they are my two favorites at the moment.
I just installing i00 Desire HD 4.1 at the moment............we'll see how that one goes!
But there is one thing I can't understand. What makes some user put sense away? I tried the 'ultimate droid' without sense...I mean, what's the point of taking it away? What are the advantages?
And also...I am now with MIUI 1.4.22. I wanted something new because sense or not sense, I always end up using the ADW launcher EX because of its app management, menu, visual effects and row customizations. So...what do you think about MIUI ?
And also, I can't go back to sense keyboard now that I am used to the ginger ones. Same thing for the power notification widgets (lights, wifi, gps, mobile data and so on).
I recommend CoreDroid 5.4 or 6(still working out a few bugs out one this one). CoreDroid was the first rom I flashed and I've loved it ever since. It runs smooth and has lovely eye candy.
MIUI! It's fast, very stable and it looks great. It's also much lighter then Sense ROMs which is about 280MB vs MIUI with 80MB.
And today MIUI is upgraded to 2.3.4
RCMix, brings to us full sens 3.0....in couple of hours. The sens keyboard can easily be replaced.

just try other roms with your self, then you will got the better one.
i have been running the following for two days now, and can't believe i took so long to make the jump. so good.
ROM: LeeDrOiD HD v3.0.1 GB
KERNEL: LeeDrOiD GB v3.0.1
Radio: 12.54.60.25U_26.09.04.11_M2
Hi, just trying to peoples opinion. I'm on cynogenmod 7, but see the latest sense rom and interested in installing. I use the go launcher so Widgets aren't a big deal. I'm more interested in battery life and linking to twitter etc.
Which one is best??
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
Battery life with CM7 can be greatly improved (and many reporting greater than sense ROMs) by changing the radio and RIL file (which radio works best only you with your handset can decide).
There are several great Twitter apps. Since you mention yo're not into widgets, what integration were you looking for? I recommend Twidroyd and Tweetdeck.
If you insist on having a sense ROM just because it might give a better battery life then LeeDrOiD is your man, IMO.
I used to use leedroids and yeah battery life was great, his new one is why I'm questioning really. The integration I mean is with the phonebook and gallery etc. I also use tweetdeck. I thought cm7 didn't need ril? Because of ril, is the sense battery and signal better?
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
There are no better 'official' skins for android IMO, also the integration with other services like facebook and twitter are very nice.
On top of that also the very good looking widgets.
But there are also alternative apps with which you can create a similar experience.
If it wasn't for the fact that you can't have 5 columns / rows on the homescreen and ability to resize widgets I would stick with the HTC sense launcher, but I like having that many cols/rows and also having folders in the app menu, so go launcher is best for me
i currently running cyanogenmods 7 on my g2. i was previously running senseginger3.0 and MoDaCo Custom ROM for the HTC Vision (WITH SENSE). i really like senseginger but the few bugs are a problem for me (FC in dialer is the main one). and the MoDaCo ROM was near flawless but it ran slow as hell on my phone.
Question 1 :: is there any way to install sense or sense features on CM7 (the only one i really want is the desk clock widget with the animated weather on desktop. i think its great. as far as the rest of the sense ui i dont really care.) if i could get the clock widget from the sense ui working on CM7 then i would be perfectly HAPPY!!
or
Question 2 :: is there a way to overclock the MoDaCo Custom ROM so it will run faster (maybe flash different kernel)
i did some online reading and the MoDaCo rom did not come with an OC kernel but im not great with this stuff
any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks in advance everyone. and great job to the developers for making all this possible.
to answer question one, you can download the "fancy widget" from the market thats the closest youll get to the sense clock, its not as cool but its cool
second, you can try and flash another kernel then download setcpu from the market and you can overclock from there

NEVERMIND.... i found Virtuous Sense v2.0.0 it is gingerbread and sense ui that has a OC kernel of up to i think 1.5 or 1.7GHz. it is perfect. no FC, hangs or video playback issues that i have found. ITS GREAT!!!! and the animated weather widget and wallpaper effects works... this is the answer. im happy now

everyone needst to try it..
Have the same issue here. I've been testing out CM7, and although I love some aspects of it, I just can't seem to give up the excellent sense widgets.
I'm back to virtuous 2.0.0 (great ROM btw) mainly because I couldn't find decent replacements for the excellent sense calendar and news reader widgets.
