What ROM should I use [backup and wipe) - Desire HD General

Hello. I tried the cyanogen 7 RC3. It is my first custom ROM I flashed...it is ok, the battery last double the time it last with stock sense rom. GPS still had problems but with a different radio things changed a lot....I could manage to get the fix in 10 seconds with GPS status.
I don't know why, but last days I couldn't get the fix anymore...rebooting, and so on...didn't help. Changing rom would help me see if the GPS gets a better fix or not.
Second reason I want to try a new rom is the contact management, calendar, facebook photo sync. These 3 things aren't really too well made on cyanogen...the contact list doesn't look as good as the sense one. Same thing for the calendar and the sync of the contacts with the various 'accounts' (google, facebook, SIM). I would like a rom with sense although it will be difficult to abandon the cyanogen gallery....which looks fantastic.
I am going to flash the MIUI to give it a try (just see what happens). But what rom could you suggest? Maybe with SENSE in it?
I don't find the interface important...I mean the interface is the last thing for me in a rom, I know I would always stick do ADW launcher EX for the home screens....what I find important is the rest (battery life, gps fix, contact and calendar management, photo gallery and camera).
I know sometimes some features can be replaced by 3rd party applications (SMS archive, camera software, and so on)...but some other features cannot.
I wait for your suggestions.

If u want sense then try leedroid v2.2.3... if no sense then try ultimate droid hD.. amazing rom.. im using it now and i dnt think il. Go back to sense roms
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App

leedroid was the first rom I ever flashed it was great, but now I want to try others just to see what its like

That's the reason I keep coming back to Sense Roms, the contact managment and syncing through my different social media sites. And it just does it, flawlessly. I would try Android Revolution HD 3.5.

I like sense for the contacts, calendar and the facebook thing (I am no facebook addict but it is nice to have the photos of the contacts in the contact list...and that is automatically done by sense when syncing with the facebook account...ok some other roms do that too but how sense does it is just better).
I also like some sense applications and widgets....unfortunately the widgets are lost when I use ADW launcher ex....I love adw launcher for the high customized home screens, animations, and everything....but with this I lose the nice HTC widgets (contact widgets, calendar widgets). There are some other widgets on the market that can replace the HTC ones...but again, they are not as good.
So in my case there is a very big war between:
- contact and calendar management of sense
- ADW launcher and htc widgets
- the great things the cyanogen brought
- gingerbread and no sense
- some other details
So many interesting things which cannot live on the same device...at the same time...for instance MIUI looked very nice but had an awful gallery, too little customization on the home screen, but many things were very nice.

Try Android Revolution 3.6 i thing is the best...

ARHD 4.0
ARHD 4.0 Beta 4!! love it just waiting for the official gingerbread release so mike can make a rom with official gingerbread rom

ARHD 4.0 is old and outdated. other ginger sense roms are way better then ARHD 4.0 ( ARHD 3.6 is great tho)
Best ROMs imo:
FroYo Sense: ARHD 3.6 or CoreDroid
Ginger Sense: RCMixHD 5.9
AOSP: M-DJs Ultimate Droid

RCMix HD 5.9.7 is definitely one of the best, but you could also try CoreDroid HD GB 5.4 as well, they are my two favorites at the moment.
I just installing i00 Desire HD 4.1 at the moment............we'll see how that one goes!

But there is one thing I can't understand. What makes some user put sense away? I tried the 'ultimate droid' without sense...I mean, what's the point of taking it away? What are the advantages?
And also...I am now with MIUI 1.4.22. I wanted something new because sense or not sense, I always end up using the ADW launcher EX because of its app management, menu, visual effects and row customizations. So...what do you think about MIUI ?
And also, I can't go back to sense keyboard now that I am used to the ginger ones. Same thing for the power notification widgets (lights, wifi, gps, mobile data and so on).

I recommend CoreDroid 5.4 or 6(still working out a few bugs out one this one). CoreDroid was the first rom I flashed and I've loved it ever since. It runs smooth and has lovely eye candy.

MIUI! It's fast, very stable and it looks great. It's also much lighter then Sense ROMs which is about 280MB vs MIUI with 80MB.
And today MIUI is upgraded to 2.3.4

RCMix, brings to us full sens 3.0....in couple of hours. The sens keyboard can easily be replaced.

Custom ROM for the Desire Z Bell NAM phone? Please post you opinions if you have used a custom ROM with the Bell Desire Z and have had a good or bad experience. I ask this because the Bell and C2 threads are intertwined for the most part but there has to be subtle and not so subtle differences due to carriers, services, etc.
Most of the customs ROMs are built around T-Mobile G2 platform.........sooo any recomends for the Bell platform specifically? I read a whole bunch but the ROM threads are seriously long, lol, and I may have missed a few things that may be missing for specific providers.
Use the latest Virtuous ROM and kernel. They run flawlessly on my Desire Z from Bell (on the Rogers network). I use the Sense version for the social phonebook functionality and other functions. The Vanilla version is great if you want stock Android, but you miss the awesome Sense widgets which I believe creates an amazing Android experience.
I'm currently running CM 6.1.1 on a Bell DZ (although i'm unlocked and on Telus) and haven't had any issues. GPS works, WiFi works, haven't tried Bluetooth yet however. Everything runs smoothly and I got a cool new boot animation as well

Yes. I second this. It runs very well "out of the box" and the latest (0.9.0) version the "default" (not "advanced") flavour is comfortably overclocked to ~1GHz when running tasks and underclocked when screen is off so it has great battery life too.
I've been using it as my daily driver. I, too, like the Sense integration of social networks and contacts. This is a really great communications device with this ROM.
MIUI , no questions
I've used Virtuous and it is one of the best I've tried. It doesn't have many new things, since the DZ already has Sense, but it's still a really nice ROM.
From my experiences, cm 6.1.1, virtuous 0.9.0 and MIUI are all reliable enough to use daily, and dangit! you couldn't ask for 3 more diverse choices.
Give each one a try, set them up how ya like em, do nandroids of each, then restore a different one every couple of days and just settle into one.
I prefer Virtuous because I personally dig Sense...But MIUI with laucher pro is sick and slick. Then again, CM6 has to be the most popular custom ROM out there...for good reason!
I guess you'll just have to try em all!
Oh yeah, I used gingervillain for a day. Think it has a little bit of work before it's a daily rom, but yeah, that'll be great when cm7/gingervillain get all sorted out.

Thanks guys.....will give the Virtuous first try.
I've used stock, the Euro WWE, CM6, Virtuous 0.8.1, MIUI, and CM7 nightly #11.
My feelings towards them all:
Stock - Overloaded with crap. Slow. Takes forever to boot (excluding the fast boot, ie Sleep mode).
Euro WWE - Same as stock w/o the extra apps
CM6 - I did not like this AT ALL. It also ate my battery. Cool boot video though.
Virtuous 0.8.1 - I liked this one quite a bit but there was an annoying bug with the trackball wake and I was almost never being notified of new emails. I used this on 3 desire z's with the same results. I recommend Virtuous if you are into Sense. It's not too different than stock, though.
MIUI - This one opened my eyes and I really wanted to stick with it, but it had a ton of issues for me. The lockscreen kept disappearing and Wifi would not stay on after reboots. The trackball wake option would not turn off after turning it on the first time. Things like that made me weary of this ROM. I tried an early version and also a later one from the beginning of Jan. I don't see anyone else complaining of those specific issues, though, so it may have just been me.
CM7 nightly #11 - This one is my new favorite by far. I really like gingerbread and this ROM is very lean and mean. Between trying MIUI and CM7 I have ditched Sense completely. It's so much more of a 'cleaner', 'pure' experience without Sense. There's less clutter, things just seem simpler, there's less crap that I don't use (browsing facebook stuff through contact list, etc.) The stock dialer is so much better since the contact list is just on another tab, instead of another app completely, and it has a favorite contacts tab (which also automatically adds frequently called people to the list).
I would definitely recommend trying a non-sense based ROM such as MIUI or CM7. They both have better dialers, contact lists, and SMS apps (the HTC one has bugs). They are both leaner and simpler. HTC menus are packed with way too many options, even just adding items to homescreens is overkill. There are some nice things such as the way you set the time on alarms in Sense, and the HTC hub (some nice ringtone sets in there), but not I don't miss much else. CM7 and MIUI both come with a lot of great rings as well. One of the things I liked most about Sense (the 'people' app) is now one of the things I dislike the most. I miss the Sense camera a lot, I am hoping someone can port that over to non-sense ROMs eventually. However the stock Gallery app is much better than the HTC gallery. Another reason not to use Sense is because certain things such as bluetooth are slightly crippled (can't use Wii-mote), and Samba wifi sharing has issues on sense too. Who knows what else. I found HTC sense syncing also brought my phone to a crawl at least once each day.
Hope that helps you in your journey!
I use a DZ on Bell and I would recommend updating the radio to the latest version as I had constant connection problems with reception for calling/data after using custom roms.
I'm currently using GingerVillian and its working great, very smooth and no lag. No major issues so far and I haven't had any fc's. The only issue so far is that I don't get voicemail notifications (not sure if its the rom or Bell). Also, keep in mind that this rom does not have Sense (I like sense, but I'm willing to use a rom without it so I can try out Gingerbread).

Virtuous 0.9.0 works great with me. A lot of issues cleaned up since 0.8 Modified stock kernel is plenty fast and has no bugs. Everything just works. If you want to OC, use the virtuous kernels; I noticed a few bugs with the other.
In my personal opinion MIUI was great, but I found it slower and less consistent than virtuous.
Gingervillain was also really nice.
Last time I used a cm7 nightly, it was obvious that it was still a work in progress...

Im running gingervillain 1.5 on my NAM and I absolutely love it. Its smooth, no lag, pretty much perfectly stable.
Currently testing the Virtuous 0.9.0 Sense ROM with the advanced kernel and quite happy with it so far, 3 days now no issues at all. Stable and smooth.
Will back up in a few days and test the MIUI, Cryo and Ginger as well, may as well........

Is it ok to delete CM7 and reinstall a froyo rom?

Just checking. Fed up with CM7 and its weird behaviours of unresponsive and hidden menu's so gonna change rom.
Just to double check, it's ok to wipe a gingerbred based rom then reinstall a froyo one isn't it?
I have a feeling I'm getting mixed up with hboots where its dodgy to downgrade.
Can someone clear this up?
I flashed jokerdroid 4.2 froyo after cm7 and no probs here!

Pretty good. Its a sense rom but loads quicker than stock. It seems as quick or maybe quicker than cm7 to me. Check out the comments here.

Im running Cm7.1 which is 2.3.4 gingerbread and it isn't laggy at all,
no idea why you think that. Ive no experience with overclocked Froyo roms,
but Cm7.1 is definetly not laggy.
Yepp sense widgets work in Jokerdroid...
For me, I like some sense features which are not there in CM7. An important one is CM7 not having a smart dialer. Yes I know there are some third party apps out there like dialer one, go dialer etc. But they are not as good as HTC dialer.
Jokerdroid is great so far. Fast, more stable compared to CM7.
After alpharevx S-OFF, installing a sense rom, you won't have HTC wallpapers and setup wizard but there is a solution for that in the forums. Check full index thread in Android development forum. Everything is explained there.
I don't really care about HTC wallpapers, I always use custom pictures anyway.
What's the advantages of having setup wizard, doesn't sound like I'd need it.
You dont really need either one of them... It is just for the sake of completeness and some like the wallpapers. Also htc scenes is missing too. But as I said, not vital.
Set up wizard is not a must either. But then you have to manually set sync of gmail etc. Not a big deal.
Ive tried CM7 and Jokers too, Jokers was better for me because of sense, after that I flashed back the stock rom, with hcdr kernel. So I can overclock the cpu, and its much faster. Im waiting for the stable 2.3 sense rom.
Well, Jokerdroid is installing just now. Thought it was boot looping but its moved on now to an animated HTC screen so I assume all is going well.
I'll get setcpu on it once it finished and try it out.
EDIT: All is great bar one small problem (there's always one). The weather widget can't find my city! But it can easily in the stock, it's the same widget surely?

[Q] Can't Decide MIUI/SENSE/AOSP? :(

Hey guys if you dont know me I was a rom dev for the xperia but moved on to the DZ. HAven't yet made a rom for the DZ, yet.
But I have been flashing non-stop since i got this phone. Its just I can't decide what I should stick to, and what will match my needs.
So im a highschool student, calendars reminders are big for me and staying organized. I play basketball and watch it too so video and stuff is needed.
But Im also a dj/producer and i need the best sound. I also like to play games ocassionaly as well.
I really love Sense 3.0 but I cant handle the laggyness even with swap enabled, is there anything else that can be done? I was on virtuous 2.00 (sense 2.1) for 2 weeks it was stable and all, but the battery was pretty drainable fast. BlissBeatMod is promising if some of it can get less laggy. And we'll have to see what Virtuous Tretanique (Affinity) will go.
Aosp is nice and fast but I dont really get the nice looks and features that miui have to offer.
Miui is really nice im running BulletProof right now. But i still dont feel like its the "one". and the quality of music isnt as great on sense even with equalizer options on.
PLEASE TELL ME ANY SUGGESTIONS, ALL WILL BE APPRECIATED

Thanks a lot, once I decide what kind I will produce I will start.
Ok Im running ILWT. It is amazing. I put a theme on. Very fast. But still some reason it just seems "boring". And the sms app on aosp/cm7 isnt as sexy.
yea i know exactly where youre coming from, I always want a newer prettier ROM... I wish someone would release one that just didnt look like it was android almost, and not like iphone, or anything, something with an original GUI.. yes i realize that's a lot to ask btw and not something I would be able to do myself but I think it'd be cool and get a lot of support! In the mean time the one I've found to be the freshest for me is MIUI because of how the themes affect like everything and really the launcher is what catches my eye, im kinda excited for the ROU launcher
i used to use cm7 and miui before. cm7 is lightweight rom, smooth and has excellent battery life. but it is lack of killer feature such as in its sms functionality, the smart dialer and etc. of course you can always download apps from market for that functions but it takes forever to load those apps on startup.
so i moved to miui, which i am currently running with bulletproof miui rom. it is rich with functionality, ridiculously-convenient-built in-features and interfaces, but consume more battery compared to cm7 unless you made certain tweak on its OC/UC. but its interface lacks of originality because it is obviously a mimic of iOS. but so far i m happy using miui.
i want to try sense based rom, but from what i learned, sense based is laggy. i miss sense interface though. look clean.
OK, if you think cm7 is boring (and I agree) I suggest you give MexDroid a spin. It was my DD for quite some time. The only reason it's not anymore is because I found Bulletproof MIUI. but I'm sure you've already tried MIUI. if not. Tun4f1sh's Bulletproof is the ONLY one I recommend.
More options would be most welcome I'm sure. I'm trying to figure out how to port roms from hd forums at the moment. The collective's absolution looks pretty sweet.

MIUI is great, iv been runing Bulletproof, it's definitely unique miui whit its virtuos oc controller witch cough my eye. But now i got ICS fever on me, not for the isc gui but some of the features. I stumbled on Galnet MIUI whit ics framework. runing fine, tried it for couple days, and the batterylife seems fine, maybe. Ill stick to this since it seems to work, and hope for updates whit possibly some new ics features.(its still same MIUI ui and functionality)
after we get somewhat working ICS, i will try that a little, and propably get back to MIUI.
I'm on Bulletproof MIUI at the moment but since the iPhone-esque UI makes my eyes hurt I installed LPP and some icon pack (can't remember the name). That way I still have the looks of Android but can combine with the impressive speed and flow of the Bulletproof MIUI ROM.
CM 7.1 for me lacks a little bit of polish visually (can't wait for CM9!) compared to Sense based ROMs and IMO MIUI offers that. I like Sense but any Sense based ROM I've tried has started to get laggy on me after a while.
Bulletproof MIUI for the win...I also like good old Cyanogen too, but for a nice mix of speed AND looks MIUI is tops for me
Love the look of Sense, but too slow and laggy
Check my thread, i got a bunch of videos of roms and see which one you like the best

in this few days, i have been testing 3 sense 3.5 rom, beatmode, affinity and rcmix.
for someone who has a very sensitive sense like me, i cant stand to wait for the phone to response due to insufficient memory in sense 3.5.
its time to go back to miui bulletproof.
I have tried many of them. CM and MIUI is cool, I just miss too many features from sense. Sense 3.0 is either laggy or will get laggy after a while. So, I always go back to my Virtuous Sense 2.0.0 NAND backup.
But: question here: why is this draining the battery soooo badly? Apart from this, this could be THE perfect ROM.

Sense is smooth and polished, but every custom Sense ROM that I have ever flashed is a battery hog, even the Sense 2.1 + 3.0 hybrids.
So my current favorite is G-lite 1.05 - it's like stock + overclocking + better than stock battery life (due to deep sleep)
I like sense and am currently running Virtuous Afinity but I can see me switching to an ASOP build of ICS when it's stable enough

[Q] [Poll] Sense vs. CyanogenMod vs. MIUI vs. ICS

As I see numerous ROMs out there based on all three I decided to make this thread too check how would you guys compare them. I mean in terms of features, speed and compatibility with HD2. I'll be grateful if the more experienced list the pros and cons of each one if them.
For example, I chose a Sense ROM for my HD2 as I am pretty used to Sense. The interface is great, I really like it. However, some stuff do not work such as WiFi and USB tethering which are important for me. Speed and battery drain are also not so good and the red button doesn't end the call.
So Sense and ICS still have some bugs to be taken care of. As I see CM7 and MIUI based ROM support USB/WiFi tethering, claim to be faster and not buggy. Is this true? Are there many features in Sense are lacking in these ROMs? Which one do you think is better - cm7 or miui?
my favorite rom is rcmix3d runny
There will soon be MIUI that is built on Ice Cream Sandwich.
My favorite rom is HyperDroid based on CM7. This rom is fast, stable, and everything works. My battery life with this rom holds up well, I haven't had any problems with it and I've been using HyperDroid for over a year now.
Another reason I love CM7 builds is the customization. I like to change my density and I cannot with MIUI or Sense. I also tend to theme my phone very often. I cannot do this with Sense, everything is pretty much preset.
As far as MIUI goes, I like it. It is nice looking and offers some customization. Feature-wise everything has worked for me. I just tend to get tired of MIUI and revert to CM7. The iPhone like UI gets tiring and repetitive (this is also why I do not like iPhones).
I like either CyanogenMod or ICS. I don't really like MIUI, and sense is too slow imo.

first miui ... and next miui with ics....
As I read somewhere in the forums MIUI doesn't natively support apps2sd. Doesn't leave you quite small space for other programs to install? I'm referring particularly to the ones with an EU HD2 model that doesn't have much internal storage.
My Rom is ICS CM9.
Still some ongoing development work being done but I get the capabilities of both ICS and CM rolled into one nice package. And as CM continue to develop CM9 it will keep getting better.
I used Sense ROMs at first, but then I tried HyperDroid and haven't looked back. I played with a MIUI but I liked the little CM7 tweaks and switched back. I am eyeing ICS CM9 hungrily, but I want to wait until the Cam corder works.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using xda premium
My top priority is speed and RAM.
Sense, with its heavy launcher, is very slow. No matter how good people claim it is.
ICS is kind of the same, but less. It tends to be laggy, not really that much but still, lag exists.
On the other hand, MIUI and CM7 are the fastest, MIUI offers huge customization. However, the scrolling is slow, in menus, web browser, settings and screen transition. Almost everywhere, and since my top feature is speed, I don't like that. Thus, I'm left with CM7.
Fast, leaves me with a plenty of RAM, can be customized [not as much as MIUI ofc, but still Theme Chooser is a competitor ] and the scrolling is fast .
One more thing I can't give away, is CM7 settings !
Conclusion: I want something fast ~> CM7 ~> HyperDroid.
You may also want to add a Android 2.2/Sense 2.0 option, those are much better than Sense 3.0/3.5 I wouldn't have voted for it (CM7 for me, but Sense themed) but some others may like Sense but hate the slowness of Sense 3.x

Currently testing different ROMs. I was a Sense fan for quite a while. Now with MIUI and all is fine. Speed is way better but I am missing Sense Contacts with Facebook and Skype integration. Does anyone know a good non sense ROM or a contacts manager that has the magic to to easily bring your contacts altogether? It is just that one small thing that makes it hard for me to leave sense - the contacts manager.
I can recommend CM7, fast and stable.

go to contacts -> chose your desired contact -> menu -> edit contact -> menu (yes, again ) -> merge contact -> and chose your fb contact...
Click to collapse
It works, but this kind of Facebook sync has nothing to do with HTC sense like contacts sync. Sense automatically refreshes the pictures of a FB contact, shows the latest events/posts when you open it and reminds you of their birthday. MIUI contacts doesn't even sync the pictures. Does any one know if Cm7 or CM9 contacts support these features?
I feel CM is the best way to go since it offers some customization (nothing crazy like MUIU) BUT it runs fine and its reliable!
Anything else I tried is simply Not good enough
Picked MIUI.
But waiting for ICS MIUI.
convert
Up until lately I would have said cm7 all the was,but have got to say converted to sense thanks to haldrics awesome sense roms no real lag and very

ROM confusion

Hello and thanks for your time.
My DZ is driving me nuts. Phone's rooted, s-off, radio's changed--basically fully configurable. I've been experimenting with several roms and have yet to find one that "fits". Virtuous Unity--lags, Virtuous Affinity--lags (when I say lag I mean 20+ seconds for the notification bar to slide...), CoreDroid (latest) lags to the point of not being useable, G-lite--no lag but no features such as a decent calendar widget. All the ROMs I've installed have swap enabled and disabled--not a helluva lot of difference.
I'm looking for a sense ROM (is that wrong?? oh well) preferably gingerbread, that runs well with basic eye candy. Now please don't misunderstand, all the ROMs I've mentioned are works of art and kudos to all that develop them, I'm not trashing anyone's efforts here. Just looking for some people that have had good ROM experiences...or can offer some insight as to what I may have screwed up in my phone to cause this poor operation...
Thanks to all
Try the rooted ota version of gb sense made for your phone.

Go back a few pages and look at the sense 1 and 2 (and hybrid) roms. There are a lot of hidden performance jems there. Here are some my old sense favorites...and they are all gingerbread!
Virtuous Sense v2.0.0
Desire_Gingerbread_Sense 1.2 (very light/fast sense rom) (v1.2)
Synergy - (RLS1.1 10/9/2011) - Now With Warm Sprinkles!
InsertCoin_Vision Sense2.1 + 3.0 (v1.6.1)
You can't go wrong with any of them!
Thanks! Can't wait to try them.
This is a great forum
Virtuous sense 2. It's what the stock Rom should've been. Smooth, fast and sense.

I use RCMix4.0 Energized Blue Edition and works beautifully...smooth and fast... its GB 2.3.5 and sense 3.5... u should try it!
Go back to G-Lite and ditch LauncherPRO for GoLauncherEX and download their GoCalendar app. Also, if you want FB sync with contacts while on that setup, download Contacts by Contactapps and enable FB contact syncing. Smoothness of AOSP with the versatility and functionality of Sense in one package.
I'm on Affinity at the moment and the lag isn't really unbearable. Sure some functions take afew seconds longer, but having the native integration as well as Sense 3.5 justifies the slight cost in performance. Overclocking to 1.5GHz also helps alittle with the lag.
are you sure you want sense?
for me all sense-roms i tried i got lags, too.
if you dont not "need" sense. check this rom: ILWT
it is awesome!
yes RCMIX3D 4.0 is the best ROM i think
You can try Android Revolution hd 7.0, is very fast and smooth Sense 3.5 ROM.
Just my two-pence worth - when you tried affinity did you enable swap?
Affinity is now my daily driver - with swap but without supercharging - supercharging have me very bad results - has been pretty rock solid actually, if not rocket fast.
best sense 3.x ROMs: android revolution HD and beatmod blissense
best sense 2.x ROMs: virtuous sense
best AOSP ROM: ILWT CM7
