Has any1 here on XDA tried this method, I don't trust myself with ADB, and the problems ppl are having with Visionary 14 scare me.

It's a scam, isn't it ?

definitely looks like a scam. just take a look at the "commentors" usernames...

I just had a look. LMAO !

Oh, geez.... I feel dumb now, I'm usually good at catching those things.... Delete/Lock thread, dont want to mislead anyone...

Its obviously bogus. Seriously tho the Rage method isn't that difficult. You just need to watch out for the last line they have all in bold and red. I don't use adb that much but I decided to do the rage method since I couldn't get visionary to work. It tooks me about 10mins. Takes more time to decide what you wanna do with a rooted phone than to actually root it.

????videos of how to!!!!

I know this website is really help and helps so much. But i was thinking if people can make or direct people to videos shows people step-by-step how to do things to there phone. i feel it will help alot. The text information that evryone gives is great but video can help alot.
and if it not really possible if you can takr pics or screen shots of the step-by-step directions that will also help.
what do you guys think??
If you have videos send us the link and describe whats is it about..
That is about the dumbest idea I've ever heard. Video howto's are fine for teaching people how to nail boards together to build a deck, but you suggest video howtos for how to use a COMPUTER... which is naturally TEXT/DIGIT based. Quite frankly, if you can't understand concise text instructions, then watching some retard who video'd himself pushing buttons is DEFINITELY going to make things MUCH WORSE.
I dont think its a dumb idea... i understand all the instructions i see on xda developers, but i am not new to computers so i wouldnt NEED a video but even i have watched some videos that have helped me out a great deal, and understand what im doing because the person shooting the video explains whats going on. Trouble is, who will have the time to do a video for each and every little tweak or adb push or rom flash etc...
bboy_201 you might see this happen through tmobile first before xda developers.... maybe google....

In some fairness if you're new to computers or aren't comfortable enough to be reading and using text based instructions, you probably shouldn't be flashing your phone or modding in the manner that is done here.

True. But from my own experience i learned computers by doing this kind of stuff right off the bat.. trial and error... so now its nothing to me really.
If you are BRAND NEW to computers and you dont understand basic commands, i believe video tutorials and basic reading would be good

Not everyone in your I.U. 20 class was able to learn by reading, some had to watch others or attempt themselves. A lot of them did manage to remove the stick, though.
If you want video how to's there are many out on the internet. Google it. But in my experience everyone that I have known that has tried to follow a video walk through has just made things worse. I have fixed many phone and even worse(bricked) because someone was following a video walk through. Just take the time to read the information and it will be a lot easier on you. One you have everything right there for your but the most important part is that you will learn more about what you are doing and hopefully get an understanding so that if something goes wrong you can fix it.
Just search youtube. How to root G1 Simple as that.
i gotta agree that videos of how to do most of this is a bad idea, most of the reason to root your phone or do any modding to it is so that we can find the full potential of the device, if you make videos then any idiot can do it and they will come here looking for help when they "brick" their phone. and rather than being a good forum poster they will not search and will start posting multiple threads all over asking for help because someone helped them the first time. if we make everyone read the instructions then in theory they will actually LEARN something and won't need to be spoonfed simple instructions such as rebooting/iping/reflashing/pulling the battery.
VIDEO WALKTHROUGHS ARE A BAD IDEA if you cannot read how to do it you shouldn't do it, if you do not know how to undo it you shouldn't do it either
Instead of videos, I believe text + pictures (screenshots) would be a better option. Because some people have annoying voices. lol.

just read the text, they're all here.. thats how i learned(nd most people) plus all my exprience with computers, which i read everything myself. not to be rude, dont be lazy and read man.
oh i never finished school HAHA, juvey most of the time(its not something to laugh about, if i can change the past i would)
wow some people gotta take it easy....
people learn differently and i was just suggesting that more than one way of showing how to do things would help out.

I agree 100 man...
coolptut's youtube videos of how to root my phone where the most helpfull to me. there is a part one and part two. but then again I think they were more helpfull than here only because it said to copy/past the text to type into terminal emulator into notepad first so it was easier to see the spaces and such. I tried a few times before following the xda thread but kept making typos I guess becuase it never worked.

will this work to root from 1.6

before i attempt rooting my phone i want to know if this will work because it seems like it will be a lot easier.
use this: http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/22/how-to-unroot-your-mytouch-3g/
to go back to 1.5
then use the relentless rooter to one-click-root the phone.
pretty simple. will that work?
or do i have to do all the steps here, which still isn't that hard, but i like the one click way a bit better

ther the exact same thing I'm on tmobile forums all the time alot more friendly and you will get a response there not like here obviously lol, but that guy that wrote took like 2 days to root and then he felt like it was neccasary to post a ew tut even though there is like 15 ways to do it on our site lol... but ya the unlockr or the tmobile forums site will work for you if you ahve any questions ask me in this thread

[Q] Continuum 2.2 Update for Beginners?

I'm a noob when it comes to smartphones and android. My wife got this Continuum for free for me, and well I wish I would of known about it. I got this Friday and not knowing anything about Android, I thought I got a good deal, but soon realized after reading several forums up here there isn't going to be an official 2.2 release, but thanks to the kind folks here, there is a leaked version.
To my question, and I guess it's just me not being use to it, and trying to learn everything in a day, it's just not sticking. I would definitely want to upgrade to 2.2, but I'm lost. I understand the concept of it all, but like I said I'm lost. I haven't tried it yet, but do you have to root your phone first? Before you even attempt the update. I understand the concept of rooting a phone it basically gives you complete control over it, but is their a beginners guide?I guess I'm just lost although the leak was posted with great instructions it seems like a foreign language to a noob like me. Any help would be appreciated.

I was like you a week ago, lost, afraid, overwhelmed with information. But then, I found the search bar and now my phone has 2.2 on it. I don't really remember what happened, musta blacked out. Oh well... good luck!
Check out www.addictivetips.com/mobile and search rooting continuum. For that matter, read a lot from that site. It helped me a ton, and they put it in layman's terms

I got it running on my first try. It really isn't too hard once you grasp it. Thanks for all the help offered. And especially a big thanks to the people who brought 2.2 to the Continuum. At least it's not so dead after all. My Rom from pastorbennett runs perfect. I do have another question...would it be safe to download the My Verizon app. Even though it's a little aggravating, I do like being able to keep up with my usage, but if it's not advised I'll stay away from it.
I've been reading through a lot of the threads for loading Froyo onto my continuum, but am running into an issue that I have not been able to get past (or maybe I am being impatient).
I have the phone in debugging mode (only way Odin seems to pick it up)
I click the PDA button
Load the tar file
Click start
The process seems to begin, but gets hung up on SetupConnection and does not proceed from there.
Is there something I am missing? Not doing right?
This is my first Android phone and am still learning the terminology and so on. Any help would be appreciated.
EDIT - Figured out how to put the phone in download mode, everything moved right along. /facepalm

Hey, it's good to see users answering their own questions! I have done that I can't guess how many times... I look in the mirror and tell myself. Did you REALLY RTFM?
I'm glad you posted your fix. That might help others that read the thread. I guess it's a pet peeve of mine when I see a post that says, "Nevermind, I figured it out." And doesn't explain what they figured out, and how they did it... I'm just sayin'... Ya know!
Agreed, Moon Shadow.I've done several dozen searches, and clicked on promising links to someone who is having the same issue. The only resolution I see is "I got it". Which makes the search useless.

Did you receive the OTA?
If you are running the stock gb there isn't a way to root it yet.
The only Exploit that so far works is fre3vo but only for temp root.
No not OTA it bought it like this..so I can't?? This is bs..i want to use other ROMS already

If you're on 2.3.4 then you have to downgrade to froyo and then root your phone there. I'd link to the how to but I can't right now. Search the threads here in general or q&a, this has been answered for a few people already really recently.
Ran into the thread I was mentioning just now so figured I'd give you the link. Again, this is only if you're on Android 2.3.4 aka Gingerbread.

If you are running 2.2.1 what the problem is input error.
it's
cd /sdcard/root
Cee Dee [space] forward slash sdcard forward slash root
and i might sound like a complete jack wagon here but i don't care.
IF you cannot follow simple instructions like how to root your device. Esp this device then i would highly suggest staying away from the rooting ring. This is not for the faint of heart. This is not for the people who have no clue what they are doing. This is for well educated people who know and understand the basics and the risk there of. If you should get into a pickle, you are the only that will be able to get you out of it.
Just a question. Do you know if you have a good or bad eMMC chip? you know the bad ones are pretty much a handwritten guarantee that your phone will brick.

wow, I guess you were never new, just knew everything you ever needed to know right off the bat right? How about instead of getting preachy and climbing onto your high horse next time you just help the user out.
It really annoys me how some users here seem to think they can just belittle anyone they feel like it when it comes to rooting questions, they take the "I am better then you and you're an idiot for asking questions" stance instead of simply helping them out and guiding them through the process. If you don't have the time or want to help out someone who asks a question do the board a favor and just move on.

I did answer the question, and help the OP out. Or did you not read my entire statement?
So basically what i did annoys you, but you did the same thing. The only difference is i offered help to the OP. You didn't. Your issue with me could of been addressed via PM. instead of clogging up their their thread with nothing that pertains to the question at hand.
If treating the OP like a 3 year old then going on a tangent over intelligence levels is helping then I suppose you did.
But you are correct I shouldn't have clogged up the forum with a post and no I don't like the current attitude some users have here, it needs to be addressed.

If you want the forum to remain alive and valuable source of information - then your "good Samaritan" attitude, while nice, is doing a horrible job. If you want the forum to become a mess of things with valuable info hidden below lots of trash, zillions of same questions asked and very few proper answers given - then by all means, continue preaching good attitude. I believe you know what is said about good intentions.
I've seen moderator interventions on such threads, and I kinda agree with the point I've seen. While welcoming, this is XDA-Developers, not XDA-Phone-users, and the forum name says it the best. As in any developer forum, RTFM should be rightfully expected from users.
But we hijacked someone's thread.
On the other hands, during the last months were at least 2 more threads with the same question, so we won't do anyone a disservice by keeping the thread up

Tutorial

I'm afraid I won't be doing a tutorial on how to move to gingerbread. I've argued with myself about it... several times, and I just don't feel comfortable making one for a process that I haven't done, then dropping any trouble shooting that comes afterwards in someone else's lap.
I'm still hitting this place every day, on the off chance I might be able to help with something, somehow. So, if y'all think of something, let me know.
This will probably be seen as a dead post, but I wanted I wanted to put it up, on the off chance that anyone was waiting for it (conceited sounding as that may come off ). Mods feel free to delete, at will.

I was gonna post a video tutorial initially, but after you said you were gonna write up a guide I scrapped the idea. Since you've decided against releasing a guide, I guess I'll re-evaluate the idea. Would there be any interest in a video tutorial?

Most definitely. Video tutorials, if accurate, are almost always 99% more helpful than written ones. If I had a video camera, that would've been my route.
