Wow awesome feedback cbunting....since this is your first ppc i would say just mess around with the settings a bit, poke around the device get familiar with it, come up with questions and stuff and ask them on forums like this one, or just read around them, heck even brick it once or twice if thats way it takes to learn more. here are a couple of links you might find useful

Im not going to be an a$$ like the other guy,but it is true that you will get more help if you type in relatively complete sentences and actually spell out words. Abbreviating 4 for "for" may make sense on texting without a keyboard,but for everywhere else,it comes off very poorly. In fact,its rather irritating to most people. In any event,there should be plenty of useful info here. You can also find a lot of useful information just by searching on Google. Thats how I ended up here.

After a week of pondering I decided to buy myself the Sprint Mogul. The final decision rested between the new tilt and the mogul, and I simply couldn't look past Sprint's amazing SERO plans.
Hopefully I can avoid some of the problems people have had here with their Moguls! (I got the insurance plan just in case...)

In response to cbunting i think you meant to write learn how to type. You should make sure you don't make yourself look stupid when attempting to ridicule someone else for asking for help. It's very unproductive and a waste of a post.

I am absolutely being honest. Thank you for the benefit of the doubt. I totally expected to get flamed in here. But, I had to take a chance.
Now,I tried asking around my circle of friends for help. No luck. I searched Craigslist locally. No luck. I watched Youtube videos to attempt this myself. No luck. I was referred here from Youtube videos and the amount of information was overwhelming and confusing to a non-tech guy such as myself.
I am a hands-on learner and the option of having one of you much more tech-savvy guys, or girls , at my side to guide me through this easily confusing process would be a real benefit.
Thank you to the people that gave an honest response. I will contact you all very soon and the most convenient person will be compensated for their time.

Even non-tech there are STEP by STEP guides. Word for word. Action for action. You posting this really shows you just not trying. Sorry, but tech-junkie or not, even if G1 is your first phone you've ever had, if you actually watched all the youtube videos like you said you did and listened to the instructions, you would have been able to do it. It's really easy. VERY easy. If you've ever installed an OS on a computer, you can root a G1.
If you can't root, you don't need to. You will never be able to update your ROM and there's a 85% chance you'll brick your phone somewhere down the road. Also, if you can't do it, you probably don't even know the benefits other than being different.

You have the time. It takes roughly 30min at most to learn. You're just too lazy and unwilling and want someone else to do it for you. Sorry for being blunt, but honestly, if you never learn what you're doing you're not going to get far. You NEED NEED NEED NEED NEED NEED NEED NEED NEED NEED to know how to do it yourself.

I really don't have the time and I am definitely not lazy. I tried my best on my own and I failed. So I thought I'd reach out to a community much better at this than myself to see if they could help. I don't want someone to do it for me. I want someone to teach me how to do it efficiently, so I can mod my phone at will on my own. I didn't think that was too much to ask.

Edit: Forgot to put this in here. You've never installed an OS?! Then no, you REALLY don't need to root if you're that bad technically.

Ok, that's exactly my point. If you tried for 3 days straight, which I doubt, and didn't succeed, you don't need to do it. Ever.
They are NOT all different and do NOT all differ in instructions. How do I know this? There's only two ways. One click - or downgrade and one click.
You copy dream.nbh, rflashrec.apk, and recovery.img to your sdcard, hold back and power on. It picks up dream.nbh, you install it. You boot, find a file manager. Navigate to to flashrec.apk. Install it. Open it, type in /sdcard/recovery.img (if that's where it's saved and named) and look at that.
Four lines of text! Would take me 15 min to do at most.

I care because you're just going to end up bricking your phone. You might not, but the chances are highly probable if you can't even do this.

Even with someone teaching you, you're not going to learn. You have hundreds of youtube videos, there's no difference. If you tried, you could do it. I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be mean. I'm trying to help you with this. You don't need to root. You don't even know why you want to! Do you understand how much damage you could do flashing the wrong thing?

Members have provided the steps/procedures necessary to root/flash your device so that you may customize as desired.
Most members will tell you that they all started at the same place as you ... the beginning. Most members will also tell you that time, effort, and dedication is required. If you are not comfortable with the procedures (as you have stated) and cannot spend the time required to figure it out, I encourage you to hold off rooting/flashing your device until you have the time to dedicate to this.

embarrassed to be a hd2 owner!

I am so embarrassed to be a HD2 owner nowadays, all i see on this site and other site's is people invading threads asking how to "flash" this on there HD2 and when will this be available for there HD2's.
Why cant everyone read all the information available and if they cant understand what to do, read it again as every question that somebody could think of in reguards to there HD2 and ANDROID has been asked and answered many many times and when i see how stupid and lazy loads of yous are i feel shamed like ive never felt before!
to top it off ive just seen a thread about a guy who has named therefore blamed a chef for what he believed bricked his phone yet it states everywhere do not try as its for DEVELOPERS ONLY!
please please you silly people get a grip and read the infomation given and watch the youtube videos and if thats not enough use the HD2 Linux/Android Q&A Thread - ASK YOUR QUESTIONS HERE!! thread here

Hold Alt and Press F4. It will pop up a special box with step by step instruction. It will even have photos and short videos.

Maybe we all should add in our signature the link... It is so well hidden in the stickies.

I believe that if u have Radio 2.12 and press Alt + F4 while running WMC it should automatically sync and install Android instanyly...but please dont do this unless you are a developer. I will take no responsibility if this screen exits upon pressing it.

Any forum I'm a member of has lazy people who post some simpleton question when their answer is either in a sticky or in another post on the same exact page.

stupidity and laziness is a disease! Its mother natures way of fighting back. I guess she figures we will kill ourselves off.

Overall Ive learned that you cant let this stuff you down. 99% of any questions I have go un noticed. I do my research ahead of time so that I can provide the proper info. Ive learned that if its out there you can find it even if you have to chop and screw your search results to get to it.

Joseph, this happened because- while pressing the command, you must be facing north west while holding your hd2 above your head. Also, be sure to shake the device intensely. It will help to chant mekaleckahilecahinyho while following this procedure because it will unlock the ever so elusive feature of tv out on the hd2.

We are ALL here to help, regardless of how fed up you are with the same posts by new people. and just to let you know, I also get mad when I see those kind of posts. Saaaweeeet...got my TV out to work using your method.
Do you happen to know the chant to hook up the FM Transmitter as well...I heard that if you wear Myan head dress and throw a virgin into a volcano that is supposed to do it...but then I read that someone was getting the GSOD after trying this...::so confused::

Ok so after i have seen many people asking about doing things like porting and how to add power menu options and lockscreens( includes me ), i wanted to ask you guys if you can start sharing things like adding power menu options and adding lockscreens here..how to edit settings.apk to show lockscreens option..how to edit mod version when is written in the apk itself.. things like that..im not asking for something wrong right ????
So basicly this is like a guide just like the one jellette posted sometime before here in general, lets make an all in one guide so people dont be all over the place asking posts twice ...well i think i will benefit about this too since i have entered the dev world and its hard lol...no sleepeng well, not eating well, thats me i dont know about you...so what you guys think.. ?

The problem, Bosina, is that people are always asking for guides that already exist here on the site. A search of xda will show you how to add am / pm toggle, lockscreens, power options, porting apps etc..

Hmm i see brother.... but i have seen some settings apk i have tried for the lockscreens that have the mod version there and i havent found out how to change it.. there are things that can be shared here..

Let me also add that sending a dev a request and only giving two options: tell me how or write a guide is not the way to request help. There is a 3rd and 4th option: walk me through it when you get the time (like I have done a lot) or don't help if you don't have the free time right now.
A dev works hard to pump out the best roms. They do not always have the time to walk away from their own project to fix someone elses.
I recently walked a "dev" through a port 100% from start to finish. That earned me a little line of thanks at the bottom of his OP and earned him a big arse line at the top of his OP stating that HE worked real hard to get the port bug free.... This ruins it for others, like yourself, when you ask for help.

I usually have no trouble teaching someone or sharing any knowledge I (might) have, but when people message me and want things but have no idea how or why something is, it's annoying.
I know that's a little vague, so let me make it clearer: if you are going to PM someone and ask them how to do something you damn well better make sure of the following
1) you have Google searched the issue for at least 9999 hours
---- (tip: try using "site:xda-developers.com" in google)
2) you have tried doing this yourself
3) you at least have some idea of how whatever you're asking about works
4) you aren't asking said person TO do it, but rather HOW

ohh i see , thanks for that since i did that and i had no idea on what i was doing ..remember ? now that im a little into this, i know how hard you guys work for this..bro i go bed at 3 almost everyday just tryinbg to fix some frames in framwork ..damm i feel you jellette...sorry for those times i did that error and dammmmmmm, that he had to work hard to get port free ?? hmmm i wouldnt do that really...believe me..i always thank you for all you have done for the comunity and for me...

We are actually pretty lucky here in the Vibrant section, have you ever looked for a how to or source files in one of the other sections. The amount of sharing that goes on here is far greater than anywhere else on xda.

I was being sarcastic bosina. I would love to learn this stuff but theres no way I would come out and start asking people how to do it. Id learn 100% of everything from just research and reading myself. Take in part, my JIGs, I figured out how to make them through research and development and never asked anyone how to do it, and I only got ideas from KidDynamite on the fancy lanyards I use because I wanted a nice adjustable lanyard system, but had no clue what to use, and he being ex military suggested I use 550 Paracord and a cord lock... Ive noticed that same thing jellete, only the i9000 forum imo seems to match our prowess in that dept. For the US tho the Vibrant forums is #1 for sure.

Tutorial

I'm afraid I won't be doing a tutorial on how to move to gingerbread. I've argued with myself about it... several times, and I just don't feel comfortable making one for a process that I haven't done, then dropping any trouble shooting that comes afterwards in someone else's lap.
I'm still hitting this place every day, on the off chance I might be able to help with something, somehow. So, if y'all think of something, let me know.

I was gonna post a video tutorial initially, but after you said you were gonna write up a guide I scrapped the idea. Since you've decided against releasing a guide, I guess I'll re-evaluate the idea. Would there be any interest in a video tutorial?

Most definitely. Video tutorials, if accurate, are almost always 99% more helpful than written ones. If I had a video camera, that would've been my route.
