I'm running AOSP JK2 1.1 and I was wondering if I can flash the JI6 modem on this? And if flashing the modem is just like flashing a rom.
Also, if I flash voodoo lagfix, how do I undo it? Thanks so much!!!!!

Yeah JI6 modem should be compatible but don't quote me.
To undo Voodoo Lagfix simply put a file called disable lagfix into the voodoo folder on your sd card.

Well, since you do want to be enlightened... You do NOT post questions here. There is q&a for that.
In addition, your questipn was alreafy answered in other thread.........

Thanks!!! And I'm assuming this "voodoo" folder will be present once I flash voodoo lagfix? And god forbid something goes wrong can I still ODIN back to stock everything if for some reason I can't uninstall voodoo or the JI6 modem messes it up?
I would stay away from the voodoo lag fix. It can cause alot of problems. Try one of Eugenes universal lag fix kernels. They're super fast, overclockable using set cpu and you don't need to undo the lag fix when you flash another rom.

hello, is there anyone that got mobileap working with jm5 euro i9000 rom and captivate kernel? i tried installing unhelpful kernel through clockwork recovery but it does not work.

wont work, the reason is the kernel... with unhelpfuls you can put in a custom script to make it work.
Read his thread before downloading and installing stuff blindly

when you say "it" doesn't work, do you mean flashing the kernel didn't work or that the kernel is working fine but that mobile AP still doesn't start?
if it's simply mobile AP, make sure you copy over the init.d script to the correct place
yeah i get the new kernel showing up when i install it through clockwork, says, "alice" something in about phone. but when i launch mobileap i get a blank screen.

ok, I literally just answered this. but if you want it spelled out for you, follow my instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7986757&postcount=123
so is it possible to use the stock captivate kernel, jm5 fw, and this init.d script, mobileap will work? or is it necessary to install unhelpful kernel?

The unhelpful kernel is what allows the init.d stuff to run- so yes, you need the unhelpful kernel

+1 for reason
thank you guys. u guys are the best for clearing things up.
i read unhelpful's kernel about making the current version 1.2 kernel into a tar file so i that i can odin it. but i am so lost i spent an hour trying to search and try to make the 1.2 kernel into .tar file. but no results. anyone have an idea? thank you i appreciate it.

his current release (near the bottom of the post) is flashable through clockwork, I don't know how to build it for odin, but I'm not quite sure why you would either
well, i have a custom update.zip so that i can install my rom as clean as possible while putting in custom designed apks and wallpaper. i odin back to stock then to jm5 before i install my update.zip.
if i had the 1.2 kernel as a tar file, i could easily put it along the pit file when i flash odin without having to go through the rom manager process.
i have a nandroid of ji6. do i just apply that and flash a ji6 kernal? can someone link me to one if so? if not, can someone explain how to do it? thanks.
I believe you have to ODIN the official JI6 release (you can find it in the dev forum). Then you have to root, install ROM Manager, and nandroid your way back to where you were.
The key is to Odin a Rom, any Rom, that has the JI6 kernel.
Odin JI6 and then nandroid.
Nandroid doesn't install the kernel, so you would end up with a "brick" if you tried to nandroid on a 2.2 rom.
thanks guys! loving obsidian so far, but i think i need the signal strength boost from ji6.
Nope, I was on Obsidian and just flashed straight back to Bionic Fusion through clockworkmod recovery (straight, not through ROM Manager), and then Core kernel on top of that. I'm running perfect apart from slow market downloads (mostly my fault I think--accidentally deleted some system apparently and then restored; downloads work, but fussy)

that's because bionix flashes the kernal along with the rom. nandroid doesn't. that is why i asked if i could just flash the ji6 kernel after restoring my nandroid.
ATTN: Don't give advice if you don't know what you're talking about.
On to the post:
You can feel free to nandroid or flash to/from anything. However, if your Obsidian install is like many other peoples, you probably can't do crap in recovery. In that case, you need to Odin. However, if your recovery does work, just flash the rom and the kernel (or just the rom, if the kernel is included)
OK ill give it a shot if I decide I don't like obsidian. Thanks.

By can't do crap do you mean can't flash or can't access clockwork mod? (I can boot into clockworkmod just fine)

Ah, sorry. I thought the issue was whether you have to ODIN back to stock in order to roll back from Froyo.
For me the safest was to ODIN JFD, then flash JI6.
Has anyone successfully rooted Pure Stock EC05? If so, using what?
One click root 2.5.5

Same as eb13 and dk28

Thanks
Where is it?
2.5 isnt working for me !!
same way that would be in the questions and answers forum?
2.5.5 says it was sucsesful, but i havent tried to use superuser or any root apps yet. seems ok though.
3.0.6 doesn't work for me. Hangs on Samsung screen after reboot.

That's for EXT try 2.5.5
So EXT won't work with EC05?

No, not yet
CWM 3.0.6 is for EXT. CWM 2.5.5 is for RFS. Official stock EC05 = RFS.
You should be able.to use cwm 3.0.0.6 if you flash an ext4 compatible kernel.

Anything stock from Sansung is in the RFS format, only CWM 2.5 is RFS.
CWM3xxx is for converting RFS to EXT4, which a stock rom doesn't support, so, your gonna get stuck at the Samsung screen b/c a stock system doesn't know what to do with EXT. You'll have to use a custom ROM that supports EXT (almost all do now) to use CWM3 (or wait for someone to cook up a stock EC05 that supports both filing systems - someone usually does).
If I want to root and install a custom ROM over the official EC05 which OneClickRoot zip file should I use to convert to EXT4? I only see one for EB13 and DK28.
ext worked for me on ec05.... i flashed twilight kernel worked fine
like i said... use the one click for eb13 but you have to flash an ext4 compatiable kernel after you boot into cwm
I am a noob so I am learning. I rooted my epic yesterday and was wondering can you overclock on the stock eco5 rom (or any stock rom) if you are rooted. I used the ClockworkMod method described in qbkingg77 video. So my files are converted over to ext4. Thanks!

You need to follow his other video on how to flash a kernel and overclock it as you can't overclock the stock kernel

Ok, you cannot be on stock ROM because it does not support EXT4 file system. So either you Odin'd in a prerooted modded stock ROM or you haven't booted into Clockwork yet to convert to EXT4 and thus sponging your phone. You also cannot overclock the stock kernel. So if you are on CWM 3.0.0.6 and haven't gone into Clockwork recovery yet, download an EXT4 compatible ROM with overclock capabilitied, put it on your sd card and flash it after the EXT4 conversion but before rebooting.
Do you BONSAI?

Light bulb turned on! I was not accurate in what was saying. I am currently running the syndicate rom. I was thinking about odin back to stock, rooting then overclocking before I flash another rom. From reading your post when I root then that is not a stock rom because you have changed the files to ext4, correct?

If you followed his video to root with CWM3 and run SRF then you converted to EXT4 when you ran CWM3. If you odin back to stock and root you can not overclock the stock kernel. Depending on what root method you use, would depend on what file system you are on. If you convert to EXT4 you need to have an EXT4 compatible ROM on your SD card to flash or your phone will not work
I get what you are saying, thanks.

However you can root with CWM 2.5.5 and keep RFS and just change your kernel to Genocide or another with overclocking after you return to stock.

Guess if we had his "ultimate goal" with his phone was we could of been more direct from the get go
After installing one of the Gingerbread roms (Default [ROM] [CM7] [7/14/11] Trigger Redux ยป Build 13 ) I had to go back to Froyo for Wifi Calling.
But when I flash any Froyo rom using the clockworkmod v4.0.1.0 I get this error:
Amend scripting is no longer supported... Installation aborted.
Do I need a previous version of CWM? Which one? And how to install it?
Any other solution?
Thank you in advance.

I just Odin'ed back to JFD. When I flash any kb5 froyo rom do I need to flash new radio? or anything else besides the rom itself?

no it should have that modem already in it unless it doesnt say and unless u want a custom kernel then no, there are some GB roms with wifi calling, the JVP GB roms are the ones that have it
