Still flashing , thanks to odin

anyways.... i'm running 2.2, there's no reason you can't be, too...

1. Ignorance
2. Brickaphobia
This is for the GT-I9000 and is part of the international rollout of Froyo for that device.
So, yes. India. Really.

It is incredibly difficult to brick this phone so long as you're not hardware locked, and if you are it's easy to fix that. You're really missing out by not getting over your fear; all it takes is a bit of studying up on Odin and CWM.

I agree, ODIN is about the easiest failsafe on the planet.
1. get to download mode
2. start ODIN
3. add PIT
4. add PDA
5. 2 minutes and your golden.
Actually, my rooted JI6 w/ mobile AP works beautifully. I am dependent on this phone's functions every day.
After 2 previous brickings (1 ota and 1 OCLF Voodoo click) requiring an (other xda member) odin rescue, I have learned my lesson & limitations. Now... I don't gamble with what I can't afford to lose. (Unless of course I'm zanked on pink tequila. Then I'll load Linux on my kid's Furbie & code it to stalk my ex. Bua hah hah!!!)
Even when (if) 2.2 does come out in US, I'll still wait for feedback from this site before installing it.
Now can we puhleeze get back to ragging on India???

I started flashing ROMs and feared that I bricked my phone once. Just couldn't figure out how to get it back up and running. Ran into an amazing post from a guy here and it got my phone into download mode. I have never looked back since as I know that I just can't brick my phone! I tried but failed. This is an amazing piece of hardware. However now my home button is not working (think it can be hardware related though as it doesn't matter which ROM I have on it it still glitches)

i agree i should not flash froyo, but i want it so bad, i'm having a guy from work come over later (he's the computer specialist). he said he's flashed hundreds of phones at work, and it shouldn't be a problem.
thanks for the heads up tho, if he messes up i can blame him!
I concur. Why froyo I ask.LOL. It's still crippled. Eclair still better performing os. And it will fugg your galaxy. In fact friend bricked his vibrant. Laughed at his azz during dinner. I wait. CM6 is on the way. I will take a better performing captivate any day over a brick and another trip to the store.

I have flashed hundreds of phones as well and let me make this explicitly clear to you....IT DOES NOT WORK ON THE CAPTIVATE!
We have no working 2.2 kernel for the Captivate and the International Galaxy S kernel DOES NOT WORK on our devices.
Incase you didn't get the hint....IT DOES NOT WORK.

Doesnt the intl galaxy kernel work, just that the screen is 90degrees off and some of the hardware buttons are reversed?
I'm not going to even begin to mess with that froyo.
@ OP
What do you mean "It does not work on the Captivate"? Sure it has some bugs like swapped buttons and if you enable screen rotation it will rotate 90° and there isn't a big advantage over the stock I9000 ROM but it DOES work.

In the context of working without issues. Not for nothing but I don't want to see all the newbs that read a post saying it *works* flash the rom and then come in here in a panic wanting us to tell them how to fix it.

It's like when I told my daughter one winter the heater was hot. She said it was hot and she wouldn't touch it but damnit she touched it anyway. When she whined that it burned her she got no sympathy from me either.
(it was no major burn, just a rush of heat into her hand, I am not that bad of a parent lol)
I'm going to try it with the OC kernel. If not, I'm going back to stock for a bit.
Here's hoping we get a CM release soon!!!!!
Quick question about Froyo. I understand that it's supposed to be all that and a couple bags of chips... with flash and better processing and such. If we flash to a different version than the stock ROM that came on the phone, will we still be notified of the update through T-mobile when the official release happens? Or will they somehow know that we aren't running stock programming and say that we've voided our right to updates??
Sorry if that isn't the brainiest of questions. I'm new to androids and would rather not deal with anything that will cause heartache. I'm not asking if we ROOT the phone... I know that simply opens files and capabilities to users... I'm wondering if we flash to a different anything that modifies the system if they can see that and refuse to update us.

There is a possibility that it MIGHT work but i wouldn't try it because it might flash Euro bands and brick your device. Just wait a couple of hours (or tomorrow) because Eugene is working on creating compatibility for the Froyo rom to work on the Vibrant (possibly Captivate and other Galaxy S devices) without bricking and allowing flashing to previous ROMs.

Over the air is a crappy way to get anything is becoming my understanding. If it was me I'd Odin JI6 onto it if you want to stay stock. Otherwise I'd put on a custom ROM of your choosing.
If you need help with Odin etc. look at the Vibrant Bible - it will answer MANY questions for you. Good luck and welcome to the club

Most people do not Root their devices because they hear a lot of horror stories. Usually from other people who don't enough to fill a thimble with their knowledge. Either because they don't seek the correct information, or they do not follow directions properly. Believe me I'm related to a few of them . Know it alls, who nine out of ten times cannot even explain the terminology they throw around when they're " giving advice". If you take the time to explain to someone the Pros and Cons of Rooting a device. Hand them all the information you can, and let them make an informed decision. Most, not all, but most will choose to Root their device. I'm done with my rant . Now back to what I was doing. Rooting a device for one of those miscreants whom I refered to.
