So, I love my streak (9 days now)
However I am now bored with it and want to upgrade the internal storage to a 32GB Card.
Has anyone attempted to upgrade the internal storage yet?
I have a 32GB In the user slot already and would love an additional one inside for more storage
I am going to be de-constructing the phone as it is to change the led's (my spare one with cracked screen arrived off ebay yesterday )
So has anyone been crazy enough to do this / Any assistance.
I have an ATT US 16GB , will this work with a 32GB MicroSd?,
as for going fro more than 32, I would search XDA for other android devices, maybe even an app that will help.
Check out You Tube there is a vid on their how to do it
Theres a post on modaco detailing it. Called hardware taking this puppy or similar

cool, thanks will check it out

Hi all,
Apologies for the rambling post below but....
I would like to report major problems I have experienced with 32gb Micro SD cards with a number of Android devices, and most recently my new Desire HD.
The problems occur when I copy across my music library to the 32gb SD. It is a mixture of MP3 and AAC (mp4) files and the initial amount of data is a minimum of 5gb. All the data copies across fine, as I can tell from the available space under settings/SD & phone storage. However, the stock music player app does not recognise roughly half the music, and some of the music it has recognised produces a "cannot play this file format" message if i try and listen to it.
Using Astro File Manager, I then browse to the location on the SD card where I have copied the music and find that the music (that was not recognised) , is not physically on the SD card (despite the available space remaining suggesting the files are there).
If I then copy new music to the Desire HD on the SD card, the music copies over but the same scenario above occurs.
If I keep the SD card in the phone for 24 hrs the phone will crash numerous times and the only way I can turn the phone back on is to remove the battery.
I have tested 4 different 32gb Micro SDHC cards, 2 Class 4 SanDisks and 2 Class 6 Kingstons, same results with both.
Phone-wise, I have tested this on an HTC Wildfire and Samsung Galaxy S (running Android 2.1) and an HTC Desire and HTC Desire HD (running 2.2). I will test on a Samsung Galaxy Tab tonight.
Also, I have tested the above after formatting the SD card in the devices themselves, and from formatting the SD card from Windows 7 using FAT32 and 32kilobytes as the allocation unit size.
Has anyone else experiences issues with 32gb Micro SDHC cards? FYI, the stock 8gb Samsung SD card that comes with the Desire HD works without any issues whatsoever.
regards
Michael
I'm so glad you've posted these findings, I was contemplating buying a 32GB microsd card but could not justify paying more than twice the amount it costs for a 16GB card. I think I'm going to settle with a 16GB card now.
EDIT:-
Just thought about something, where are you doing this from, Windows 7 ? There is a Microsoft Windows update that fixes a problem with Windows 7 not reading 32GB or higher memory cards properly.

Very interesting and useful info for who tend to use 32GB microsd with DHD.
Is there anyone using 32 GB without any problem? We need to find out if DHD has a common problem with 32 GB or not.

I have one I got last week thats working perfect! 32GB class 4 from mymemory.co.uk (their own card, no manufacturer name).
I've copied a bunch of music and some HDTV episodes onto it so it's almost full, all files are definitely there and I've had no issues with playback. Using Astro too.
Copied them over on a Windows 7 system with Android Manager WiFi, I've used the regular USB cable once or twice which works fine too.
I also have a 32gig card.
Initially I had similar problems to you bit sure what fixed it, HTC sync works and I did reboot one or twice, but its all working

No issues with my Integral 32GB Class 4 card.
Try formatting with 32k cluster size...I've read that it helps with stuttering video issue, maybe it also helps with this...
Then nice to know it's a spesific problem not common. Thanks for the feedbacks guys.
I'm having exactly same problems as post 1. Someone suggested it might be a fake 32GB card so I'm currently running h2testw on it to see.

That was the case with my 32GB one. h2testw reported only the first 1.8GB usable.
I suspect these are factory rejects being snatched before being destroyed/recycled.
I've been using a Kingston Class 4 32Gb card for 2-3 months now with absolutely no problems. Almost full of music and Sat Nav maps, and not even a hint of problems. Make sure you buy from a reputable, or at least traceable, supplier!
Sounds like the card is faulty or fake, ALWAYS test with H2TESTW and format it with Panasonic's SD Formatter app BEFORE using it with any device! Too many dodgey cards out there!

Mind if I ask where the hell did you find 32GB class 6 Kingston or other cards.
I can't find anything higher than class 4. Also on their official page there aren't any 32gb microSDHC class 6+.
Ho everybody this is the answer. I have bought over 10 32gb micro SD cards from eBay and amazon.
Some would not even format. Dome would format but while trying to transfer the files half way through the card would fail and would not be able to format or only see the card as 8gb.
Some would format and transfer would be good but by the time I would check for the data on the card the data would have disappeared.
Let me make one thing clear ALL THESE CARDS WERE CHEAP NOCK OFFS AND CHEAP QUALITY FROM CHINA.
I payed from £25 to £80 from eBay and amazon and they all failed.
I bought ONE FROM SCAN.CO.UK and it worked first time and still works with no issues thank God.
IT IS NOT THE DHD IT IS THE CARDS.
The reason they all failed and why its so hard to believe is because not everyone that buys the cards would transfer so much data at the beginning which is why the card failed, the huge amount of data being transferred showed the true defects in the card.
I really hope this helped.
Kind regards
Imran

thanks guys for this discussion it really helped me as i was planing on buying one such card from ebay now would prefer a more reliable vendor and would read more reviews.
I've had a Lexar class 10 32GB I got from Amazon for £70 - works really well. Took a bit longer to 'prepare' when I first put it in, but no problems since.
Hey guys,
I've just ordered my 8gb omnia 7 and I'm genuinely still concerned about if 8gb will be enough.
I currently own a featurephone with a 2gb sd card, which i constantly have to swap out my music on. I carry around a pocketpc with another 2gb for video which again I have to swap.
So i'm wondering how everyone is coping with the 8gb issue... Living outside of the US meants no zune pass either. Given the restrictions on apps with Isolated storage, I can't even write something to swap files with my server while on the go :S.
I tried a few 8GB models at first, but very soon realized it just wasn't enough (Just like I had imagined, but figured I'd give it a go anyway as everyone was praising the cloud integration). After about a week the 8GB (more like 6.5GB as a bunch is reserved/used from the factory) was full and I had to start removing stuff.
The Omnia is perfect in every way apart from the 8GB memory issue. I have since ordered a 16GB version, but I would have preferred an additional SD slot (like on the Focus) for future needs.
So, if I were you I would cancel the 8GB model and order a 16GB handset from Germany. If you're buying it off-contract you may even save a few bob.
Hey emigrating, thanks for the reply.
Well, The problem is that every german version I've found is atleast 100euros more expensive than the 8gb version. (i ordered it for 500). So I'm not sure I want to spend that amount..
Was really looking into buying one of these but had a question regarding the full size SD slot. Is it SDHC or SDXC? Because Engadget says it's SDXC but Toshiba & other places just say SD. Asking because if SDXC I could just grab the 8GB version & buy a 64GB SDXC card & still come out cheaper than buying the 16 or 32GB models & when they come down in price maybe go up to a 128GB card.

I am not sure but i can tell you this . i bought the 16gb and after syncing with google and all of it's picasa , music , etc etc , there is no need for a 16gb . here is a link for a great deal though . i got my thrive in one day after purchase from digital etc . only 405 for the 16gb . enter code thrive405 and you got it . great company . i called and talked to the guy and android police verified it to be a good company and i personally bought my thrive from them ! Awesome and really cheap deal !

I wouls still buy the 16GB version due to the inability to move apps to the SD on tablets, but as for cards, it has been verified that you can use all the way up to 128GB. Hope that answers you question.

Oh A2SD doesn't work? I thought that was a function built into the Android OS. So is that something inherent to the Honeycomb OS or just this tablet? Oh well 8GB should be more than enough. How much is usable after the OS? I mean I have like 50 apps installed on my Evo 3D & at one point had almost 70 on my Evo 4G and that was without A2SD.

When Honeycomb was created, they changed the mount points of the external memory. That is why A2SD does not work. The developers could fix this, but my guess they will wait until Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) comes out. This will unify the OSs on phones and tablets meaning ony one port to make it work on both.
If you have that many apps loaded on your phones and have no issue, you should be fine with the tablet, but there are specials going on that offer the 16GB for $409.00. Not much more then the 8GB version. Have fun.
Well I finally took the plunge and got a Thrive! Couldn't be happier. Bought a 16GB version at Best Buy for $479.99 then 2 days later they were advertising it for $429.99. So I called them up and they said all I had to do was bring in reciept to get the difference because it was within 14 days. So I got my $50 back & used it to buy the Multi Dock! This thing rocks! Smooth as butter, no lags anywhere. And with the my 32GB Class 10 I have plenty of room. Maybe when the 64GB or 128GB comes down in price I'll hop on one of them. But I couldn't be happier. Be even better when the dev community starts jumping off.

Congratz. Glad to hear you finally got one and 16GB no less.
64gb sdxc works great for me in the Thrive.
I want the 32gb s4. Or should I get a 16gb s4 and get a 32gb sd card? Unless there are still certain apps that can't go on Sdcard. I haven't used android in a long time. I'm asking because im going to download a lot of games on this phone. Thanks
Most games go to internal memory and with the size of HD games it runs out fast

Since Ice Cream Sandwich, apps can no longer be conventionally moved to the SD card. I have heard there are some ways around this once you root the device, but I have never tried it. So if your a novice, move to the SD card won't be readily available.

It depends:
Gameloft's Asphalt 7 store the data on internal memory but EA's Need For Speed can store the data (2Gb) on the external SD card.
With root access and an app like RomToolBox, you can choose where you install the softwares but I dont think it makes a difference with Gameloft games.

Thanks you guys for replying. You've instilled the patience for me to wait for the 64gb GS4. I just got off the phone with a corporate AT&T store here in Ohio. He was sure he could sign me up as a new customer, could order the 32gb one and have it shipped to me in a few days. He put me on hold to make sure he could ship the 64gb one like the 32gb one. Unfortunately he came back to confirm he actually cannot order the 32gb one or the 64gb one. He said the US hasn't gotten the 32 or 64gb S4 at all and no clue when. But it could be in a few days. What if it's weeks though. Damn. just thought I'd share.
Once someone makes a custom ROM/kernel you can change the way your device thinks .. You can make your 64gb SD card your internal storage allowing everything to be Installed there

this has come a long way from my epic 4g which has less than 500MB for apps and constantly ran out. SDCard app installation was a painful, process, and very slow. Nice to have all 16GB of space wide open. I'm gonna definitely need to get an SD card though for movies. Hehe

I am right there with you, waiting on the 32GB. I have heard May or June, also heard this week, to in a few weeks. Going on vacation next week so fortunately I will be gone for a spell and won't be thinking about it. But it does suck they couldn't offer up the 32GB at the same time, that woul have given them a true sense of popularity.
You simply cannot move apps to the SD card with the Apps2SD apps, and unless you root and change the directory binds to make the ext. SD the internal storage which can be an issue for some. This is the reason I sold my GN2, just would NOT live with 10.8GB of space. I am not going to sacrifice storage on device for cloud storage that costs you money to d/l every time.

I hope so too, I really need a phone and my fear is it could be months. I wonder IF we will see a 64GB version, that would be awesome, but I would happily take 32GB version.
Oh yeah, I'd take the 32gb one if the 64 is over $400. Dang I hope it's not months, but if it is at least there will probably be newer phones released. So I might not even get the s4
32gb or 64gb won't make it to US. Samsung pulls this crap all the time and give us crappy useless 16gb. HTC one is looking better and better. I know on the note 2 you can run a script if you were rooted to make your SD card become your internal storage hopefully same process works on sgs4

Is anyone else using this card, or had these problems? Card mounted fine when I first took it out of the package. File Transfer from my backup on my Ubuntu 13.10 powered Dell d630 Lat. to the card in a USB 2.0 reader was real slow. Had problems with files disappearing, folders showing up empty, and apk files becoming corrupt and unusable. Card comes in extFat32 format.pulled the card, wiped it and formatted it to fat32 using gParted.transfer the second go round was a lot faster for the most part, but files disappearing and folders coming up empty still happening.i even re downloaded several files just incase they were corrupted during the transfer. Is it a bad card, or are there problems with how s4/MJA handles 64gb cards?

I recently bought a sandisk class 10 64gb XDHC card and have had 0 problems. I agree with the poster above. Be sure (Since it's off of ebay) you really are getting what you pay for. My card was $50 from amazon. Don't know if you got it super cheap or something from ebay but that could be your problem. I would exchange it and if that still doesn't work then you are most likely getting mislabeled fake cards. Memory I always try to get from the manufacturer or reputable company because there are TONS of fakes out there.
Again I'm on 4.3 MJA stock with root and philz recovery and have no problems with mine albeit a different brand.
Best of luck though!
For what it's worth I had the sandisk 64gb ultra (from amazon) and had issues constantly with it becoming unmounted, despite anything I tried.. Some have no issues with the sandisk. Prior to that I had a sandisk 32gb ultra and never had an issue at all, which is what I expected from the 64gb sandisk.
It didn't take me long to switch to the same samsung 64gb (from amazon) you've got, no issues at all, and it's been several months now....
I think the others said it right, get that thing replaced for another...
