I only got my XDA Mini S yesterday, so I don't have any memory cards for it yet.
I kind of figured that as I'm going down the consolidation route (ie Phone, PDA, iPod into one device so I don't have to carry a rucksack with me everywhere!) I might as well get as much memory as possible, so I can stick a bunch of MP3's on there.
I can get 1gb for between £40 and £50 (GBP), but haven't seen many places selling 2gb.
I also wanted confirmation that the Wizard will actually recognise 2gb.
Any ideas on places in the UK that I can get a 2gb card from (assuming they work!)?

Yeah i bought a 1Gb miniSD mobymemory card, brillient! Cheeper and faster than my scandisk 1Gb mini SD, (found out when using tomtom its data accessing times are faster) And its like £1 for postage and got delivered the next day! brillient!

That's one of the reasons I got the mobymemory one... it's an SLC (single layer) rather than an MLC (guess), so it's a fair bit faster

Another vote for the moby memory one, I ordered mine on friday afternoon, and it arrived yesterday! Brilliant
It's definatly much faster transfering with a card reader rather than the phones connection though
Just be careful with the moby memory cards. They are very thin and fragile. I have one and it split when trying to remove it from the USB stick they supplied with it. Comparing the Moby card with Scandisk you can see that it's a lot more fragile and flexible than the Scandisk one.
I'm not sure I'll buy another because of this.

That said... let's face it.. all of these cards are stupid-tiny, and they're getting tinier ( I made a comparison chart for tweakers.net a long time ago, see: http://www.pointzero.nl/dump/cards.jpg ). I'd say that any primarily plastic object that's only 1.2mm thick demands to be treated with respect
( If you go way back to the MMC cards - they were only 0.76mm thick while being very large - crazy! )
I second your notion about that card > USB reader they gave with it, though. First of all - mine doesn't work. Big deal. But second - it was nearly *impossible* to get the card out of the thing again. I definitely won't even bother to try and use it with this 2GB one even if it does magically start working.

You're probably right but the Scandisk card is definitely stiffer than the Moby one. Just warning people to be careful if they have the Moby card as it doesn't seem to be as robust in construction.

As Mobymemory seems to ship everything in a manner where you have to sign for its receipt (well, I did anyway), they should be able to tell that you never received the package; short of them being lying scumbags
If they tell you that you did receive it, ask for a copy (scan, fax) of the release form. If they can't show it to you, they have no case, and you can take it up with your credit card issuer (if paid by credit card), or you can pursue other methods of getting the card / money back.
If they can show it to you, and it's not your signature, then try and figure out whose it is - family member, roommate, whatever, and take the issue up with them.
If it -is- your signature, then please seek professional help

I ordered a 2Gb Moby card and (as usual) it turned up in a flash (geddit?). Excellent. Slapped it in the (supplied) adapter, slapped that in my card reader and hey Tesco! Not accessible. B*gger! So I booted up my (custom SD-enabled*) laptop and transferred all the data of onto the hard disk. Then I swapped the cards in the adapter and transferred all of that data off onto the 2Gb card. Wahey!
Great, except that the folders were called &*^&^%£ and )!(£(!")*(. Doh! Looks like my laptop reader couldn't address the card.
So I spent the extra £5 and the postage for a card reader and now you tell me that the card reader is too brutish for the card. Damn, damn and thrice damn!
(* My laptop has an SD card re-writer in it, but the catch is broken so I have to stretch an elastic band round the keybord to keep the card in!)

I took the risk and ordered a 1GB mini SD from mobymemory. Got it by recorded delivery the next day! Also the first time ever a retailer charged me the correct postage! (£1.20)
The card works fine and is not flimsy as someone commented earlier. It comes with a little adpater for card readers etc..

i also bought a 2GB card for the 9100 from MobyMemory because of this topic. arrived in 3 days (from UK to FR) and so far so good! 1950MB free out of the box (awesome!) and not flimsy or cheap feeling at all. use the adapter for photos direct to the DVD player and it works great! good price too.

I'm new and I'm looking for some help, advice and independent opinions.
I've bought O2 XDA mini S yesterday, and today I'm looking for memory card...
I went through MobyMemory offer and I've found "High-Speed 2GB mini-SD Card HIGH SPEED Read - 9mb per sec, Write - 8mb per sec transfers" for only £64.99 - is it good price (as for today) or should I look for another shop / brand?
What are your opinions after few months of using MobyMemory mini-SD cards?
Any issues, broken/faulty cards? Are you still happy with this purchase?
Next few question marks - are these cards really noticeable faster than i.e "SanDisk 2GB mini-SD Card"? SanDisk is £10 cheaper... is the speed of the PDA impacted by the speed of memory card used (noticeable) or the difference is only when you need to transfer large amount of data to the card (from the PC for example)?
This one is (probably) very simply for you - What are the pros and cons of having one 2GB card or two 1GB each?
Using two cards should be more comfortable, of course as long as you did't lose one...
Is 1GB memory card enough for everyday use (2 full lenght films + few videos + 10 albums + some additional applications...)?
How much (audio / video) data I can fit on 1GB card?

I have a 1gb and 2gb mobymemory cards. Highly recommended and faultless. I have the 1gb for a year and 2gb for a month. they are better than normal cards and are mono-density or something and fast. yes 64.99 is a good deal for 2gb got mine for 79.99.
Movies about 150-200 mb each, and music if compress at 64kps WMA about 2-3 mb each song so yes should be able to fit them on a 1gb card - I would prefer 2gb more room and more likely to lose if keep taking in and out if you have too cards.
Your choice though .

I have 4gb micro sdhc and it works fine. I have heard that 8GB won't function properly after a while. But I am not a genius

I've been working with a SanDisk 8GB MicroSD HC for about 4 months now, and still have had no issues...
And that goes without saying that I think It's a fake SanDisk, because of the packaging.
Have an 8GB SanDisk on my Elfin. Works great.

Been using it for two weeks now; no problems at all. I've overclocked to 273 using HomeScreen, maybe that helps. Loaded up 6G worth of music and 1G worth of movies. Installed PocketPlayer (and TCPMP for movies), and I have a slick, portable media player. Battery life isn't bad at all, but I've ordered a 2500mAh replacement, waiting for that to come in.
A tip - be sure to pick up an original, name-brand card, even if you have to pay more. A lot of fakes going around, they may slow down your phone.

I've been searching google how to detect fake micro-sd but unfortunately the only info I got was to make sure the serial of the memory is readable and also try to call on the manufacturer and confirm the serial. Of course, I cannot do that when I am in the store, to check each items and call them. LOL. So do you know other ways how to know it if it is genuine?
The best bet would be to avoid ebay and the like; that's where most of them are floating around. Since you're buying retail, you should be pretty safe, since you can go right back to the store if you discover that it's fake.
From what I've read, there's also the issue of classes; best pick up class 6 or at least class 4. Class 2 will be slow.

Also check the packaging. Check if the fonts are printed alright and not fading or anything.
I have already bought a 4gb sdhc class 6 kingston micro-sd. There is no 8gb available in store so I decided to just go with 4gb and just upgrade when I need it. It was fast and I guest it is not fake(though I'm not sure). Thanks for the advice guys. I hope this will also be helpful for people who are planning to upgrade memory.
As far as I know, Transcend and Sandisk are the brands that are flooding in the market which are fake so I really looked for other brand. Fortunately I found one and it is made in Japan(the fakes are made in China written at the back of this brands) so I'm little confident with the memory I bought. hehe..

I still have some time to cancel and was debating...is the 16GB the right call? I've had the 32GB until now (since it was easier to get) and it was kind of nice knowing I had that space if I ever needed it...but do I NEED it? I realize the 16GB is expandable due to MicroSD, but onboard is always better.
How do you guys feel about the storage space?
I honestly think 16gb is a better choice as you're very unlikely to install so many apps to eat up that much space.. and you can the $100 ultra to get a decent 32gb micro sd card!
I do wish you would make up your mind with your 'stories', because over on another thread you had already bought a tab 10'1 in NY and there's no mention of also ordering another AT from Amazon.

That's not true.
If you ever want to move files from device to device all you have to do is pop out the card on one device and into another.
I would hate to wait for 16GB worth of data to be moved through USB.
The biggest files are media files so if you plan on keeping a lot of movies on your tablet at one time, then the bigger storage is probably best.
Though, the way we are headed, everything will be streamed/downloaded through cloud anyway.

Exactly my way of thinking as well. Go for the lower end and make it even BETTER than the higher ended one by getting a 32GB CLASS 6 MSD Card.

I personally bought the 16 GB because the 32 GB was sold out @ BB. I figured that I could always expand my memory via micro SD.
to me it doesn't make a ton of sense to add more onboard memory when expansion is possible, cheaper and more convenient
16GB unless you really have tons of music/movies that you want to carry with you all the time. I already have a 32gb iPhone4 so I have no reason to store my music on the tablet. 16GB more than enough.
I personally went for the 32. Unlike a phone, the microSD and SD cards are accessible. I plan to use those like floppy drives of today. It's much faster to copy media directly to the cards from a computer and stick them into the pad than to try to sync or copy them via the pad. At one point, I was thinking that I can just upgrade. However, there will always be some apps that cannot be moved to the microSD.
Also, Amazon currently has the 32 for $499 and 16 for $449. $50 difference for onboard 16 is a no brainer.
I just bought a 16gb with the same mentality as some of the previous replies. I went with the cheaper alternative knowing that I could easily upgrade the storage with a Micro SD card if I started running out of space.

Does not follow that it is better. 48 may be more then 32 but it is less then 64. You don't think that people that buy the 32 gb model are then going to say "Aw I don't need a 32 gb Micro SD card, I have more then enough internal already". No they are going to say "I wish they had 64gb Micro SD card I can put in this thing".

Given Google music, and rentable movies that either stream or delete themselves after you watch them, I think Steve Jobs is on the right track. I have WiFi 95% of the places I go. 100% of the time on work days. With the Google music beta I have no music ON my tablet, but access to my entire collection with a network connection. The 16gb tablet has room for several movies, but once netflix and android market movies are fully functional I don't see the point of even bothering to rip a DVD into a format that will play. My conclusion? 16gb saved me $50 or more over the 32gb version. That pays for netflix for 6 months or so.
Got the 16gb, and got a 32GB microsd at 90$ (patriot 32gb class 10) looks great
If you really (x10) need memory, go for the 32GB model, otherwise, the 16GB model will do just fine.

Let's think about what you accused me of (starting a post about getting a tab 10.1). Was that me? No.
I decided to keep the 16gb from Amazon. External storage is all I need. Do any of the current folio cases have pockets to hold micro SD cards?
Problem with going low and using cards is it's a pain to maintain a desktop like atmosphere if I have some on board and some on a card and swap cards for something else and need access to what was on the other card. I have a mydocs folder under mysugarsync folder and sync it with my home computer. Considering a majority of my files are media/Office based, and mt TF replaced my laptop, I have a more complete setup without having to swap cards. I also had a bunch of gift cards and paid about $300 for the 32gb after returning the 16gb one so it wasn't a tough choice. I like card access, but swapping cards more often is not really my idea of efficient. Plus the slots are always open for use. Still wish the tablet had full size SD. Hate the trend towards micro on devices that have no justification for it. Considering the TF is wider than any other 10.1 with nothing else really under the hood in comparison, a full size SD should have been a no brainer.

About 15 GB free in total. But you should go for a 16GB card, and you'll end up with 22.5 GB free. And the difference in price is very small. Just make sure it's either a class 2 or a class 4 card, have a look in the dedicated thread here.
I had about 15gb before adding apps etc...
EnderPsp is right. Buy a 16GB card. You wont get to change cards later(without hard resetting) if you run out of space. I am using a Samsung Class 6 SDHC.
Remember, it should be SDHC only.

I have the 16gb white galaxy s3. Love the phone
The 32 gb was not out until a few days after i got mine
I have the 16gb plus a 32gb extSDcard
I normally think that is more than enough combined space. I, like so manynof my friends keep only curremt music on it, etc..not ALL my music
But one case where it does matter. If I were to use Music Square, which is an awesome feature, the music has to be on the phone
16gb gets crowded. Although I could continue to weed the music down to that amount
....as long as there won't be any other issues
Can anyone who has been in this scenario think of where, not the combined ammount of space matters, but rather the amount on your phone like the music square
Will I encounter any other issues that may encourage me to get the 32gb on the phone.
Your best guess not knowing me but knowing I have basic uses and 64 mb combined is probably enough to help answer this is greatlybappreciatedin either putting a mind to rest or getting me out there to spend that extra 53 bucks

To be honest Id spend the extra $53 for piece of mind. Better safe than sorry IMO. If you decide you need more space you'll spend more later trying to buy a 32gb after your 14days and the headache of trying to sell your 16gb. I dont dl music but i think for google music it caches it in the internal memory and not sd card. But in my case I play a lot of games and games data are stored in the internal. Right now I only have 6gb out of the 12 (I have the 16gb model for tmo). I also have the 32gb sprint but its been deactivated and it still has 19gb of space. There are times I wanna switch back to sprint just to have the 32gb again but I cant stand 3g. I would love to have the 32gb but I bought my tmo s3 at costco and they currently dont offer the 32 gb otherwise I wouldve jumped on it.

Well first they will charge a restocking fee. Second it should be fine with 16gb.. Of course it depends on usage. I personally have the blue 16gb with a 32gb class 10 samsung sd. Plenty for my needs. The only reason I would consider getting the 32gb is because the flash memory on the galaxy is WICKED fast... Loading times are great. I don't personally play too many games so for me the 16 is adequate. For music I have a combination of music in Google play and the rest is stored on my sd card.

Personally, I feel more space is always better, however, if you plan on filling the internal sdcard with 32GB of files, media, games, whatever, good luck if your phone takes a dive on you. I keep only games and apps on my 16GB internal then back them up with titanium backup on my 32GB extsdcard. I keep all of my files I don't want to lose there and backed up on my PC. As far as filling up your internal memory with games, the real question is, how long do you plan on hanging on to Plants vs Zombies? Just delete the games you're sick of and replace them with new ones. You'll have a newer, better phone before you ever start worrying about needing more space to save stuff on anyways. Besides, stuff on your phone that you haven't used or looked at in over a month should probably be deleted or stored away on a backup somewhere safe. Digital hoarding is a real problem a lot of us have to break.
think of it this way, it's ONLY $53 for double the storage. compare this to a few months ago and some other phones, they are $100 more for double capacity. i'd switch it if there are no other fees involved.
The real question should be whether or not you need more than 71gb of useable space on your phone. For the $53 difference plus $30 restocking fee you can wait for a good deal on Sandisk Ultra 64gb cards or buy it at normal internet price. Using external cards have the added benefit of securing your information in case your phone craps out our you mess up flashing a rom.
$53 these days can more than double your memory these days.
I have the 32GB version and glad I got it. Yes, $50 for basically 16GB is a rip-off compared to sd card prices. On the other hand, I'm already down to 15GB of free space. Now, I also havent' tried to save space. I have at least 2 full nandroids (one stock, and one customized), plus a bunch of games + data. I also haven't put in an sd card yet. However, I also haven't gone crazy trying to fill it up, so this is after fairly normal usage.
Disclaimer: if I had to pay another $30 restocking fee, I'd probably just try to live with it.
I went with a White 32GB from VZW. I got the day they launched, there was a promo through Best Buy Mobile that got 25% off. So it made sense to get it, it made it cheaper than the 16gb. but to answer the question, i wanted the 32gb. More storage, fast load times, and hope higher resale value in about 6-8 months..

You can never have enough space. Just go for it. It's one of those things where if it's on your mind to even consider a 32gb over the 16gb, just do it or it'll linger in your head and drive you crazy

The only reason I would consider getting the 32gb is because the flash memory on the galaxy is WICKED fast... Loading times are great. I don't personally play too many games so for me the 16 is adequate. For music I have a combination of music in Google play and the rest is stored on my sd card.

Thanks for everyone's advice
I opted for the 32gb today. I did have to pay a restocking fee....$50
I had an older phone returned where I was told they had a different size. this is a little different, but I may call or write Retention and see if it can be refunded
As far as some ideas to just go with the larger sd card in place of the phone storage, that was the initial problem, the reason is that I wanna put all the music on the phone, which is where it has to be in order to use the Music Square feature.....which I like
As far as the sd cards go, I hear different things. I hear that it does handle 64gb micro sd, but that the 32 is preferred, and you may have to jump thru hoops for it to work, at the very least format it on the phone
Is that right, the 32 is best?

I've got a 16 gig phone. Installed the all my apps on the internal SD card and I still have 10 of the 12 gig left. I doubt I'll ever have 12 gigs of apps.
I just bought a Sandisk 64 gig card, plugged it in and started copying file to it. No Hoops. The S3 can use native xD format cards. The card was $54 delivered from Amazon. So, 59 actual gigs on the Ext card, plus 12 actual gigs on the int card, that's 71 actual gigs. Is that enough? It is for me.
Also remember that internal memory is generally faster than external memory.

Get the 32gb if you haven't already. I was going for the 16gb but fit the extra $50 32 was more than worth it. You can never have too much space!

I hinestly have all my music on my ext card and i have no issues... thats the whole point of that thing fir me is to hold my music videos and pictures... got a 32gig which is plenty. My gs3 is the 16 gig and anything that was internal i have moved to the external (related to media) and i have no problem accessing it with anything. I use google music and the miui music player for audio. And then video. Its whatever came with the phone.. lol i think google play movies or something

Space to move on the phone helps the speed (question), but space on the sd card does not help the speed correct?
Like I said, i wanna use music square, where there is no choice but to have the media on the phone, not the sd card
I would consider using Google Play again, especially stored in the 'cloud' if you will (is that a generic term now), but when you play it from there it is considered 'streaming' and uses your data, correct? needs to be stored on the phone/or sd card to not be considered streaming and using data?
