Quick Question. - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently bought a MyTouchHD.
Went through the entire s=off process which i did correctly.
But when i boot into Bootloader (HBoot) screen i get a message of "no image or wrong image".
I did flash Clockwork, and i can reboot into Recovery or HBoot. but that "no image or wrong image" kinda has me worried, but everything else works perfectly. ... anyone know anything about it?
I tried using DDMS to screen shot it but it wont work for one reason or another.

where is the error popping up at?
Is it trying to load a.img file in Hboot? Maybe try deleting it?

The error is at the very beginning of the HBoot start up process. It scrolls through several options then says the error message. I'll have to video and upload it via you tube so you can see.

after you did the s-off were you trying to flash a zimage to do overclocking by chance? if so, you might have removed the stock image for the OS to boot correctly. the stock image needs to match the stock bcm4329.ko file and vise versa for OCing. its just a thought. hope this helps.

Please post questions in Q&A section.

No i didn't flash any files. I was just trying to PermaRoot the phone, to be honest about it.

hmm thats kinda weird you might have had a corrupted file during the root process then. thats the only explanation i can think of. on the hboot screen you do show s-off on the top correct? if so than technically everything should be fine. if you can fully boot the phone up, download terminal from the market, install it, the there should be a $ sign, then type su then press enter, a message should pop up asking permission, accept it, it should change to a # sign, if it does then you have root access. just to be sure reboot the phone and do it again to make sure that root sticks.

Yea. i have full root access. and S=off.
Okay well then i guess i need not to worry about it.... If you guys are thinking everything is okay.

Your phone is searching the sd card for an update image, it is nothing to worry about.

very possible since the first thing i did was rip out their class 2 card and kept my class 6 card. I guess i'll boot into Linux and look for a file to transfer over.

This is correct. You don't need to worry about finding a file to put on there or anything. Hboot does this everytime you boot into it regardless of you. It is automatically looking for an update or diagnostic file to load and/or flash that isn't needed for the phone to function properly. Its an error but not one that you need to worry about unless you go to manually update through hboot, place a file for the update named PD15IMG.zip on your sd card, and it still gives you the error.

Make sure that the sappimg isn't sappimg.zip.zip. &o to Control Panel-Folder Options-Uncheck the box that says "Hide known file extensions". If that's good, then format the card and copy the file back over. Make sure you backup your pictures and stuff since the format will erase the card.

If you can access the bootloader then you're not bricked.
Imagine powering on your phone and you can't access the bootloader, recovery and your phone won't even boot at all. That's a real brick.
i had this problem last night trying to install gingerbread from yoshi i`ve flashed phone`s radio and hboot , to those versions that was recommended but after I started rom first time my phone started to restart itself , just like a bootloop , but my luck was that i had goldcard with a saphire.zip on it and it worked perfectly for me.I`ve notice that this SPL is locked and that`s why you can`t access recovery.hope this helps.cheers
use the guide in my sig it will help you

no it did not fix i have been getting by on my old razor i havnt messed with my mytouch in a couple weeks now...never did fix that thing
Try formatting your SD card and then running the sappimg again. Make sure you backup anything you want to keep from your SD card. Format to FAT32 default block size if you do it in Windows.

Im sorry ...I know am extremely inconsistent with my posts ..im sorry... but heres an update...ive got the SAPPIMG on the sd card...it finds it and installs it and everything then when i reboot...BOOM!...Bootloops!
Well...I Guess this problem is completely Unfixable-.-...
I think you need to boot into bootloader AFTER you do the SAPPIMG thing, then install a RUU, and from then you can fix it. No?
Im having the same issue.I got another sappimg.zip other than the one from theunlockr but when I try and flash it, it hangs up on unzipping the system. My computer recognizes the phone but adb will not. Im lost....
RUU?????????????
I was sooo happy when I finally got SAPPIMG.zip to be read by the phone...then I still cant access Recovery...i do not have a gold card ....and i do not know what a RUU is....
I finally got mine up and running with cm. You need to flash Amon RA's recovery...then you will be able to get into recovery. Check out cyanogenmod's wiki. They have a good write up and the links are good.

[update] Beta OTA

The OTA beta version was posted on XDA earlier today and removed by XDA. I am sure there are legal reasons they can't host a thread with a link to the files.
Plenty of us still have the file and may share info about it. The OTA patches exploits to root methods currently known. Join the irc and help us crack the root. Id be happy to share any file i have for you to use.

You might as well take it down. It's against forum rules i believe.

Is this file tied to an IMEI? Or is the update file for any phone?
unfortunate
We don't know yet if its IMEI or sig checking I think I read that it is running checks against sigs. Also I think they only used imei to push the OTA to the phones not to lock that particular update to that particular phone

Sorry for the newbie question, but how do I use this update?
rename the zip to update.zip and put it in the root directory of your sd card, then boot into recovery and load it. If it fails the check you may need to reflash the original sbf first.
what do you mean rename the zip? are you referring to the file name or are you referring to a specific file? and also do we need to extract the file?
In the accompanying message it said something along the lines of 'who can use this uppate/ any atrix.'

need help. did alll the steps corectly, then it says finding update package, opening update package, verifying update package, failed to read footer from /sdcard/update.zip (is a directory) signature verification failed, installation aborted. am i doing something wrong?
Has anyone tried putting the update file into their cache along with the ctc or cbc (don't remember what the file ext is) and tried hitting the update button in the phone to see if it recgonizes the update as though it actually came OTA?

I am referring to the .zip file of the update that is available in the 3rd post.

As far as copying to the cache goes, I did not try that but renaming to update.zip and updating through recovery worked fine after I re-flashed to the stock sbf. It took a little bit longer to go through the initial boot process after the update than it did flashing an sbf file, but seems to be smoother overall so far, I only have about an hour on it though.

I've renamed the file to update.zip and have put it into the sdcard directory and then rebooted but have not noticed anything updating. I've also tried sdcard-ext directory. Can you explain a little as how you got this file to work? I am not rooted, and have not done any mods so I am on the original sbf.
Thanks for your help.

Place the file in the root of your sdcard ext them reboot in recovery mode and I believe it will either update or prompt for if you want to run update.zip from sdcard

When you reboot your phone hold the volume down button until you see the Fastboot text at the top of the phone, then hit the volume down button until you see it say Android Recovery, hit the volume up key to load into recovery, once you see the android guy and the triangle tap the lower right portion of the screen, from there you will have the recovery menu, at this point you can use volume up/down to select and then tap the ok at the bottom left

How do you reboot into recovery mode?
I'm thinking Moto is watching this forum very carefully to gauge the success of their root access lock-down efforts (I know I would). The only counter an open forum like this has is to delay posting of any new root access methods until after Moto's offical release of the ATRIX Update software. Time is on our side, not Moto's - their release process is long and expensive with little return in $$$. I know that devs are just starting to look at this, and a new root method is wishful thinking at this point, but just had to throw in my 2 cents.

Tried both RUU 2.2 & 2.3 (one click method)

First
here is my phone info:
speed xe eng s-off
hboot-0.92.2001
pg0610000
radio 1.08.00.0506
eMMC-boot Nov 15 2010
on Android 2.3.7
I tried both RUU 2.2 RUU 2.3, and both window desk top method and fastboot usb, it kept say error 170 usb connection error.
I didn't turn on the usb storage, and unchecked the debugging. There was no option on my phone to set charging only. Do I need to install a driver for the phone? window Window 7 machine.
Please help.
Have you tried the PG06IMG.zip ruu?
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk 2
Not sure about the error but there is a USB driver you need to install for you PC which I had to install before running the root method I used(forgot which, to be honest). Pretty sure it allows you computer to talk to your phone though I could be completely wrong.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427713
Says it's Win 7 compatible and for the Evo Shift but the file name says 32, so if you're running 64, you want to Google search before to make sure it's universal.

i tried to volumn down and power, it said something wrong...., it went too fast I couldn't see it all. It went straight to hboot.
My sd card is formatted to fat32.
I was having trouble with my camera, and is on TeamAndroid AOSP Roms, and partitioned my sdcard (500m out of 16g).
One thing when I partition the sdcard, i didn't make a back up, so I lost everything was on the sd card. so my current sdcard has no recovery.img or anything, other the files the rom created after flashed. No sure it makes any different.
Should do fastboot or recovery now? I'm on Hboot.
Please help.

Is the zip on the root of your sd card? Shouldn't be inside any folders. Also make sure it's named PG06IMG.zip exactly. Once you boots into hboot it should ask if you want to update

I may have missed something but I hope you aren't extracting the actual PG06IMG.zip file. It needs to go onto your sdcard intact.
Sent from my PG06100 using xda premium
jsp254 is correct, I hope your not extracting the file. The PG06IMG.zip needs to be run in HBOOT. Like crump said it should be found automatically when you boot into HBOOT. You will be prompted on whether you want to flash the zip or not.
FYI, I had an issue with the 2.3 PG06IMG.zip where it flashed my bootloader to S-ON and refused to downgrade to from 2.77 to 2.76 (2.3.4 PG06IMG.zip)
I had to use the thunderbolt misc.img trick in order trick it to downgrade.
Becareful recommending things like this, guys. We're lucky we have this trick or you could screw a few people over by telling them they can use this .zip to downgrade. [I almost screwed myself over]

Thats kind of a pain.
I used http://goo.im/stock/speedy/ruu/PG06..._1.88_0128_PRL60674_release_196686_signed.zip
However, after it updated to S-ON, it says "Main Version is older! Update fail"
Do I need to use the 2.2 RUU?
EDIT:fastboot getvar version-main
2.77.651.3
Hrm. Did I screw up here?
Can I still use the 2.2 RUU?
Do I need to use the downgrade techniques to get it to downgrade?
EDIT2: I flashed the misc.img in order to trick hboot into installing 2.3.4 stock.
I'm not sure if I was suppose to have to do that.. but whatever, it worked.

Yes ignore all virus warnings. It's funny because after doing a virus scan with avast! on my pc it wanted to delete the visionary app lol. I know it's a malicious app for rooting exploits on android but it shouldn't be warning me about it on my pc lol.

I have Viper on my Laptop. It says a lot of my Android Stuff that I've used a bunch of times is Malicious . It has something to do with the security settins. But I've changed them to the lowest settings, with still the same message. I've also had it delete the Visionary apk. But at this point I just shut it down when I'm doing something I know it will interfere with. Gives me the same messages with RUU's .

[Q] HELP!! I wiped my whole N7 in recovery.

Hi all!!
I have a huge problem i think.
Yesterday is was rooting my device, and i was about to start flashing a custom rom.
What happened is that in the proces of wiping dalvik cache etc. I by accident wiped the whole system!
So now if i want to reboot, recovery gives the error that there is no OS is installed. If i reboot my nexus 7 keeps hanging in the startup screen wich only displays Google...
It still can reboot in recovery or bootloader, but i cant figure out how to recover. I tried with 2 toolkits, but no succes! I made a nandroid backup but this doesnt work either.
Also i tried several solutions but none of them helped.
Does someone know how i can get my N7 to work again?? :crying:
Wugfresh's toolkit allows you to flash the stock image from the bootloader. Just make sure you check the box that states you cantvpower the device up.
Mskips toolkit, chose the option to flash Google image, it will download, and flash for you, if not your doing it wrong, push comes to shove your going o have to download a custom ROM and use adb to to push it on to your nexus 7 then fire up cwm and lash the rom, your nandroid will be gone unless you took it off/copied to a PC before you messed up.

Yeah, try it, make sure you state you cant boot it, and tell us what parts it stops/fails at
SMH dont use toolkits -_- so you're saying you "could" get into recovery? Why didnt you just adb push a rom
Code:
adb push name-of-rom.zip /data/media
Then flash that rom?

pretty simple. if you know how to use adb then you just need to just a ROM to apply. wether it be the stock or a custom. once you know what ROM, the easiest thing is to paste it into your adb folder (usually platform-tools) and just push it onto your sd card

I'm trying to flash to a stock rom at the moment with the wugfresh toolkit. it seems the process is stuck at the point where it is "sending 'system' to the device. it's "sending 'system'" for more than an hour now... is that ok?? or is there something going wrong?
the picture show's where it gets stucked
Fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-grouper3.34.img
Fastboot flash all nakasijroo3d.IMG w/e its called
Do you have cwm or twrp installed? If so you can mount the 7 like a mass storage device to your computer. This will give you access to the SD card where you can transfer a ROM from your computer to your tablet....I'm not sued where the setting is.....just go into your recovery and dig around....I think its under advanced...

[Q] My phone took rom off itself

hi there i have my my touch 4g running jellybean 4.1.1 and some reason today when i went to go in the boot menu and change my splash screen it like restarted itself. Every time i try to click recovery in the boot menu it shows the pd15 files and then shows you need to update it. So basically i guess it went back to its original skin ,but still has everything. I see the s is off. Is there a way to be able to go back or do i have do the whole entire rooting process over again? I really appreciate all your help.
You need to remove the PDxx.img file from your SDcard otherwise evertime you go to the bootloader it will boot the stock ROM.

Pd15img.zip should be located in the root of your SD card.

Thanks for responding. Umm I'm kinda of confused are you talking about the PD15img.zip? Also, would it be hidden in a folder or just out in the beginning?

If you flashed a ROM of some sort using the PD15IMG.ZIP method (such as a stock Froyo or GB ROM), it exists in the root of your SD card (so, under /sdcard). You should see it by hooking up the phone and browsing to the top level of the card, or you could take the SD card out and examine it directly. If you don't rename if after an install, every time you try to boot the bootloader will look for it and try to reinstall it.
Whether you need to reroot again kind of depends on what the PD15IMG was. If you went back down to a stock ROM, then you would probably have to at least go through the rooting steps again (but not the S-off part).

Alright so all day today i have been trying to get my phone working again and i can not get it to work. It still won't let me go into clockwork mod menu when you click recovery. when i click recovery it shows a phone with a red ! on it. I've tried factory reset ,full reset of phone and sd card and still not working. Anyone have any ideas why it won't work?

I've only had that happen a couple of times when a ROM did not load successfully. Usually it's recoverable, but it sounds like in this case you *might* (I would ask somebody with more experience) need to reflash the CWM recovery via adb in order to get it working once again.

Yeah. The PD15IMG.zip put the stock recovery back on. Just flash the custom recovery of your choice.
