Having trouble with my USB connection. Every time I connect to a computer it will charge, but isn't recognized by the computer. So, I can't transfer anything between phone and computer. This all started after I got the froyo 2.2 update. Any ideas? Thanks!

Anybody Tethering via USB? I could of sworn there was an app for it when I had my G1, but there was also an app for wireless.
I figure I could plug my Vibrant into my laptop and have it charge my phone at the sametime use my phone for a source of internet. When I need to charge my laptop I could just plug it in, but still have the ability to surf and charge my phone if needed.

Yeah I've only found the wireless tether as well. The wired version was just so much more convenient.

Anything for non windows users ? (Linux specifically) I'm fine using wifi tether (yes, I rooted)- but I like usb for ease of use.
Thanks guys.
Cracks me up I look for a solution yesterday and then I see 5 threads talking about kies today.
Last time I tried to grab it, but I couldn't find it for some odd reason. I guess I have a few ideas now.
@jackhuny I'll give that YouTube a try when I have a chance. Work blocks any and every half way decent site. I'm glad they haven't blocked this one yet.

In ubuntu 10.04 usb teather is automatic. Just make sure your phone has debugging mod on and plug in.

Ubuntu supports USB tether out of the box, but without the tether function in the rom you get nothing. The unbranded Galaxy S rom has a USB option for "PC Internet" which works perfect with Linux, but it was removed in the Vibrant. I rooted, just wondering if there is a usb tether app out there I'm not seeing (besides PdaNet)...
Just install samsung Kies suite, or Behold II USB driver.
Set the phone USB mode to Kies, USB debugging is optional.
Setup dial-up networking, use samsung mobile modem
dial *99#
that's it.
or you can tether directly to Cradlepoint router using same Kies mode. Make sure you specify APN in modem setting.
PDANet works via usb. You may need to download updated drivers from the Samsung website.

Anybody have any advice?
I need a little bit more information on your situation.
Does every computer have trouble connecting to the hotspot, or is it just one computer? Can you test it with a few different devices?
On the computer that you have trouble with, try this:
Run --> CMD. When you are in the dos screen, type ipconfig /flushdns
Let me know if that works. If not, answer the question that I posted.
I have also noticed that running some ad blockers will block certain websites from being able to connect when you are using the wireless hot spot. Removing them fixed any problems I had with it.
I had this problem as well. I even.called tmo and added the service for the support, and the did not help.
I wiped and pit a fresh flash of my Rom and it worked fine. Then I restored all my apps w data and it still worked fine.
Then I restored system data and I got the same problem.
So I reflashed and did not restore system data and all is now working..

Hey guys I need some suggestions, what I want to do is use my computer downstairs to play wow. But I don't have a cord that that reaches all the way up stairs to the modem.
We do have wifi but this computer doesn't. So I want to use my MT4G as a USB Wifi adapter. I also don't want to buy one. I also don't receive any data service here. So I need to run of the wifi
I've tried Pda.net but it was way to slow to run anything, the rom i'm using is miui and when i try to tether through usb my comp says it cant find the program to install.
So if you have any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!!

The answer is trivial:
Have your phone with WiFi connected, plug the phone, choose USB tether mode, and it will share its WiFi with the computer.
Tethering shares whatever connectivity the phone has at the moment. Obviously you can't share WiFi connectivity over WiFi, so WiFi hotspot won't work for you, but you can share WiFi connectivity over USB.
No program is needed, if MIUI guys coded it correctly - the virtual device is RNDIS, any Windows should have drivers for it.
If you have Mac - go back to Sense ROM that can share USB with Macs using some other virtual device mode.
I have been tethering my SGS2 (AT&T) with my laptop via USB with no problem using the SGS2 for data connection. I finally got a USB adaptor for my GT 10. It sees my SGS2 and says "High Powered USB Device Connected, Cannot connect to this device. Connected device needs external power supply."
I haven't found any threads regarding GT10 usb tether. Is this not possible?
Not possible. Drivers would be required.
I didn't want to mess with rooting my device(s) to get bluetooth or wifi tether. I tried setting my SGS2 as wifi hot spot and it works perfectly. My SGS2 is unlocked.

Easiest solution, no idea why people would try to tether via USB.
I was wondering the other day though, whether it would work if someone had a 3G USB stick and connected it to SGT.
USB Cable will not make any difference to speed
Tethering via Cable will not make any noticeable difference to the speed. Because the phone uses 3G to connect to internet and it is already quite slow from the max speed that can be supported via WiFi.
We have sketchy internet access at my office due to location so I actually tether my PC via USB to my SGS2 sometimes. Just curious if the GT10 could do it. I am also curious if it will work with a 3G USB Stick.
what mode is the sgs2 in when you connect it? can you connect in usb debugging mode to see if it shows up as a high powered device then? i only have a vibrant so i don't know what your exact options are.
3G USB Stick requires you to install a driver before using it. And I doubt that Network operators out there have got a driver for Android!
It is unlikely to work. Let us know if you find something special
why don't you just use the wifi tethering in the settings? no root, no hardware, no fuss.

Tethering over wifi or bluetooth can Bea battery hog. USB lets you tether without killing your phone's battery.

Won't help because Tab will not provide power to the phone, phone will still discharge quickly because of constant data transfer.
Another option would be a USB 3G stick maybe.
Has anyone found or established and working wifi or usb tether on stock rooted rom? This is single handly the most important function that I require on my phone. I will probably be trading it in on the Nexus 5 this week, it doesn't look like we will see working hotspot anytime soon. If anyone has a working tether please share.

Clockworkmod Tether connects and works for me but it randomly disconnects on both my PC and laptop. Can't figure out what's causing it.

Are there any devs working on this?
Would be much appreciated!
I don't want to hijack your thread, but I was going to make a thread and I wondered if this was better suited to go with your post. Maybe you guys have encountered this and figured it out. Part of our problem is that no one really wants usb usally. They want wifi. But right now I'd be thrilled to have a good, stable usb tether for when I need it. The only way I've been able to keep it stable is by constant download, like setting something going in the background on Netflix, but that's not a real solution!
I have a few issues. This is USB tether and not WiFi.
I need to set up for occasional tethering and just planned on using USB tethering. I went to clockworkmod tethering and installed it on a Sprint variant LG G2(LS980). I am trying to get that working on two different computers. Computer 1 is an older laptop running Vista. Computer 2 is a new laptop running win8.
Computer 1 has the app installed and works. The issue is, if I stop downloading anything for just a few moments, it quits working. I then have to close out the app on the phone and then reopen it and it takes off just fine. I’d like to know how to make that a stable connection.
Computer 2 is more of the issue. First, the Win8 driver signature enforcement setting was disabled. The app was installed on the computer and there was tethering for a little bit. Long enough to try a page or two and then point the computer to speedtest, which was 16mbps down, which is great for where we are in the country. After the test there was a gap in downloading any information. It quit tethering and would never work again. It was believed it might be due to the wrong driver. The first one was taken directly from the LG page a week or two ago, LGMobileDriver_S50xxxx, so the app was relaunched and attempted to use the driver found on triple double u clockworkmod dot com/tether/drivers and is LGMobileDriver_S498xxx and that didn’t work.
In short, what do I do to get this to work? I’m at a bit of a loss. It should be easy.
Thanks.
