[Q] USB Wifi Adapter - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys I need some suggestions, what I want to do is use my computer downstairs to play wow. But I don't have a cord that that reaches all the way up stairs to the modem.
We do have wifi but this computer doesn't. So I want to use my MT4G as a USB Wifi adapter. I also don't want to buy one. I also don't receive any data service here. So I need to run of the wifi
I've tried Pda.net but it was way to slow to run anything, the rom i'm using is miui and when i try to tether through usb my comp says it cant find the program to install.
So if you have any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!!

The answer is trivial:
Have your phone with WiFi connected, plug the phone, choose USB tether mode, and it will share its WiFi with the computer.
Tethering shares whatever connectivity the phone has at the moment. Obviously you can't share WiFi connectivity over WiFi, so WiFi hotspot won't work for you, but you can share WiFi connectivity over USB.
No program is needed, if MIUI guys coded it correctly - the virtual device is RNDIS, any Windows should have drivers for it.
If you have Mac - go back to Sense ROM that can share USB with Macs using some other virtual device mode.

[Q] USB tethering (T-Mobile, UK)

The wi-fi hotspot works great on my phone but I can't get USB tethering to work. I wouldn't bother with tethering but the awful battery life on the Desire HD makes this an attractive option since it gives me Internet access on my laptop while the battery charges on my phone (obviously, wi-fi sharing does not do this).
But when I use the "USB tethering" option when I connect my phone to my laptop, it doesn't work. I initially got a device driver error but now, when I connect the phone, I get nothing - no errors, it connects, but nothing happens and I can't access the Internet.
Is this a T-Mobile (UK) issue? Has T=M disabled USB tethering? Or do I need a driver? Or does USB tethering just not work (for anyone)?
Did you install HTC Sync? It install the necessary drivers for USB tethering to work.

Do you have to do this ?
The reason I ask is that I'm thinking if I'm travelling and I want to quickly hook my phone up to someone's machine and do tethering via the USB I won't be able to do it if I don't have HTC Sync, if that is the case that would be balls !

Which version of Windows are you using ?
silly question, but why don't you connect the device to your PC in charging mode only, then fire up the WIFI hotspot?
Or does this not work?
Can you tell me how to install HTC Sync on my Desire HD?

[Q] Internet connection VIA USB... No service

Hey Android world,
I want to connect my MT4G through my works internet connection via USB.
I work at a nuclear plant with a lot of metal inside resulting in no service. I would like to have a fully functional phone via my works internet connection. Our computer systems at the plant do not have wireless cards and it is impossible to create an ADHOC network. Also, additional software is not allowed to be installed on the computer due to strict system admin rights.
Is there an app or setting out there that can allow me to preform this function?
Please help.
as far as I know IMHO there currently is no app out there that can help you. But if your local System Admins don't mind a side step in the internet connection at your work I would suggest using a wireless router, preferably one that you can use LAN and Wifi, that way your computer stays connected and YOU stay connected to your life using wifi and wifi calling. bout the best answer I can give you bud. and the router shouldn't require any extra software to be installed on the computer therefor bypassing your strict Comp Admin Rights. Hope this helps ya a bit!

Well, if you are rooted and able to flash roms, then I believe there is an option in the desire based rom's made by evil and gr8 that enables you to use the computers internet on the phone via USB. I haven't used the roms in a while, so idk for certain if this will work. Might be worth a shot, tho.

It's called internet pass-through. I see it as an option on Evil's Virtuous Fusion Rom when I connect to USB, but I can't seem to get it to work. Has anyone found a way to make this work?

I tried the Royal Penache ROM just to try out the Internet Pass-Through option. And yes, it worked awesome. Give it a try.
You have to download HTC sync for the internet passthrough to work... And it does work

[q] wired tether.

I've done tons of searching for solutions to my internet connectivity problems in my house.
First off, I don't have a job; so therefore there is no money coming in so I can make this simple and easy. Do not tell me to buy a wifi adapter or something like that.
I know that the HD2 with the bone stock hd2 rom from T-Mobile has the WMWiFiRouter app that allows you to share a WIFI CONNECTION (NOT 3G/EDGE) via usb to a device (computer, xbox, etc).
Well, now HD2 has the droid option and I upgraded. Running android via root, not SD.
I need to know if there is any app, or anything out there that will let me use my WIFI CONNECTION FROM MY PHONE, AND TETHER IT VIA USB TO A DEVICE. I do not have 3G/EDGE connectivity, so thats not a path we can go down. I want to connect to the wifi in my house, and share that connection from my phone to a device via USB. thanks.

[Q] Usb tethering issues

Good evening folks and welcome.. So I just got my new place and comcast is taking ever so long to turn my internet on. So my laptop is fine doing the wireless tethering. Unfortunately not for my desktop. So when I plug my usb into my desktop, it says trying to install new hardware. Has some wizard window pop up, but that really doesn't help.. So phew now to the question. How do I get usb tethering to work on my desktop using my phone (evo) and my laptop?
I use PDAnet for hardwire connections to my desktop

How would I install PDAnet on my desktop? download the software to my phone, and move it to my desktop?
There are separate downloads. There is a download for your phone (the app), and there is also a download for your computer that you also have to install.
I am not able to post links yet, but here is where you need to go:

USB Tether to SGS2

I have been tethering my SGS2 (AT&T) with my laptop via USB with no problem using the SGS2 for data connection. I finally got a USB adaptor for my GT 10. It sees my SGS2 and says "High Powered USB Device Connected, Cannot connect to this device. Connected device needs external power supply."
I haven't found any threads regarding GT10 usb tether. Is this not possible?
Not possible. Drivers would be required.
I didn't want to mess with rooting my device(s) to get bluetooth or wifi tether. I tried setting my SGS2 as wifi hot spot and it works perfectly. My SGS2 is unlocked.

Easiest solution, no idea why people would try to tether via USB.
I was wondering the other day though, whether it would work if someone had a 3G USB stick and connected it to SGT.
USB Cable will not make any difference to speed
Tethering via Cable will not make any noticeable difference to the speed. Because the phone uses 3G to connect to internet and it is already quite slow from the max speed that can be supported via WiFi.
We have sketchy internet access at my office due to location so I actually tether my PC via USB to my SGS2 sometimes. Just curious if the GT10 could do it. I am also curious if it will work with a 3G USB Stick.
what mode is the sgs2 in when you connect it? can you connect in usb debugging mode to see if it shows up as a high powered device then? i only have a vibrant so i don't know what your exact options are.
3G USB Stick requires you to install a driver before using it. And I doubt that Network operators out there have got a driver for Android!
It is unlikely to work. Let us know if you find something special
why don't you just use the wifi tethering in the settings? no root, no hardware, no fuss.

Tethering over wifi or bluetooth can Bea battery hog. USB lets you tether without killing your phone's battery.

Won't help because Tab will not provide power to the phone, phone will still discharge quickly because of constant data transfer.
Another option would be a USB 3G stick maybe.
