Ok, im a bit fustrated with this.
i have a Spanish Vodafone HD2, unlocked with proper code, has cotulla HSPL, currently running on a dutty 3.14 based rom with radio 2.15.50,
the thing is after some hours on standbym the phone just decides to not come back out of sleep, and the phone has to be reset (red botton) or pull the battery out,
i´ve used several MicroSD cards, both formated with windows 7 or the panasonic SD formatter (could windows 7 be the issue ? )
my main microSD cards were a Apacer 8GB class 4 card and a sony 8GB class 4 Card, i also have a 16GB class 2 Sandisk to experiment on.
anyways, phone stats
Cotulla HSPL 2.08
tried with artemis, dutty and energie roms
used both mdeejay and hastarin kernels same issue in both.
Using radio 2.15.50
formating the microSD´s using windows formater and panasonic SD formatter using a hama multicard reader
adding andlog from last crash.
thank you in advance for any comment or help.
I'm not an expert but...here goes....which android build did you try? I have great result with mdj's revolution and hd2one build...sleep of death seems to be caused by mt sd card, in my case anyway. Try to have only the android build on the card to see if it makes a different. Also, have you try one of the "lite" android friendly rom?

Following has served me in the past to find and troubleshoot the issue you above list to have:
1. Install BSB Tweaks in WinMo and have Power Saving turned ON but everything else turned OFF... biggest option you want OFF is AUTO-LOCK feature under Windows Mobile. Many people will tell you how this does not matter since WinMo is not loading blah blah - just go ahead and disable this - it will not hurt anything.
2. Under WinMo disable Brightness Automatic option while you have phone sensor under direct strong light bulb and choose manually to have 10-15% - more is not needed in WinMo since you will be using Android.
3. When you get into Android, do the same: disable Auto-brightness under strong light bulb into manual percentage which suits you the best.
4. Another tip is to have G-Sensor tested; this mainly depends on kernels whether they include G-Sensor fix but go ahead and disable it completely. Fors testing purposes I recommend that you test the device under certain option for a few days instead of few minutes.
What conf I have? Energy GTX 2.5 WinMo 3.14 based; Radio 2.15.50.xx; Android HyperDroid 1.7 with mychprima's kernel OCd and UVd; No setCPU is installed nor I am using any of it's profiles naturally. Auto-Killer is set to system default since it came with the Android Buiuld I am using. Never experienced the no-wake-up screen under this setup even with G-Sensor ON.
Hope some of these tips help you at least to figure whether you have good configuration ...
Question: Spanish Vodafone HD2 you said? That means you have HTC HD2 and not T-Mobile US HD2 (more memory, etc) ... If I were you I would check whether that device needs 2.15.51.xx version and not the "50" version...
I´ll try the light sensor thing. but i think theres no 2.15.51 radio,
is that the differance between .50 and .51 radios ? US vs EUR radios ?
Followed instructions.
got SoD after 2 and a half days insted of 12 hours.
New death.
New log,
If anyone can examine it, i would me most thankful.
I also get lot of sod. I have tried more than 10 builds, different kernels, 3 microSD and couple of wm Rom & radio combos. still after various time sod will come. Disabling auto brightness and G-sensor does not help. Are there anyone who can really help for this problem? Is it sdcard problem or kernel? Android is running great and smooth only one problem is SOD.
Related
I traded my g1 for an hd2. Gave it to my wife and she loves it. Only problem is the SOD. Until a solid kernel fix is made she figured this out and no SOD so far. She uses Aldiko a lot and you can adjust the contrast with a swipe down the left side of the screen. She turns it all the way down and its completely black. Swipe up the left side and screen is back on. Cheap fix I know but works for now till the real bug could be ironed out.
the only time i had an sod is when i tried 2.11 radio..
what radio you using?
I am using the tmobile radio 2.10.50. Or something like that.
if its related to radio, I have 2.08 and never had one sod
What rom are you using? Also which winmo rom? I know its not a radio problem.
So, could it be, that radio 2.11 and higher kill the screen?
Do you recommend to use only radio 2.08?
I am from germany and a week ago my touchscreen was defect and had to be changed for a new one. Could this happen because of the wrong radio?
SODs have nothing to do with the radio. it has to do with the SD card. i can confirm this by taking my sd card and putting it in 2 different hd2s with 2 different radios and i had no SOD what so ever but when i would use a different sdcard i would get SODs on both
I've heard that higher class SD cards have better results. But sods are typically causes by the g sensor bottle necking when the phone goes to sleep. Aldiko prevents phone sleep but you can shut the screen off by turning the contrast down all the way with it. Swipe down off. Swipe up on. Like I said cheap fix but works for the time being.
I use a class 2 sd card that came with the phone. the only form of SOD i experience is the screen powering on but it remaining black which is only temp, as a few turns on attempts anbd its fine. which i realy wouldnt consider screen of death since it never sticks like that permantly to requiire a reboot.
That's lucky for you its a common bug at the moment. I have to baby my wife's hd2. I'm a bit jealous. Lol

thats not true. i use the stock 16gb class 2 sd that came with the phone (TMOUS) HD2 and i have no SODs at all. I experienced SODs with a PNY 8gb Class 4 so higher class doesnt mean less SODs. it has to do with how the sd is formatted and if the sd has errors on it.
That's what I'm using the 16 gig that it came with. I'm just saying what I've read. Now that you said that I know I can save money and not have to but a expensive SD card lol.
Viewing the answers it seems to me that nobody really knows what is causing the SODs... someone said that could be the SD CARD, others that is on the ROM side, others Radio, others GSENSORS... in my opinion have to do with the early stage of Android development in HD2, maybe Cotulla will be able to release a new Kernel which fix the SODs and Freezes problems...
Use chuckydroidrom with radio 2.12.50
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
The Radio is the problem
ok Ive done this for 3 phones and I can tell u that SOD has only to do with the Radio. The only thing ive seen that the rom affects its the robot voice.
get this Radio Leo_RADIO_2.12.50.02_2
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9GU2FF3X
And Im a 100 percent sure is gonna work and if u want get the chunkydroid just in case.
Also the 3 phones which ive put Android had been from tmobile USA.
Using chuckydroidrom, supherhd2 1.2, class 4 sd card -- I don't get SOD other than sometimes waking from sleep. Either it's the blank screen which just takes a few tries, or it shows up but is unresponsive, then the wifi reads "error."
Unfortunately that happens a few times a day.
[edit]
Also using radio 2.12.50.02
Great Success!!!
Guys,
I have had great success running Miri's rom / 2.11 radio / turned windows mobile sense off / running Nexus One build FRG33 9-8-10
I have had now screen of death, no audio issues, no bluetooth issues, camera & camcording work in 5mp, wifi working, wifi portable hotspot is working (I desperately need this because of my job), no freezing, all apps working, my NES/SNES emulator works like a charm, no freezing issues, Quandrant speeds range from 1550-1650 (low speeds when snes emulator running in background).
My only issue is that, when in sleep mode, the orange light stays on constantly, but even with this, I have had battery life of 36+ hours. This setup is ready for daily use.
If anyone can help me get that orange light out, I would be much obliged.
you would think after all the great development going on here, this issue (the biggest issue it seems) would have been the first to be sorted out. I for one am pulling my hair out over it. i get it constantly on all the builds I try except for darkstones which kills my battery in 2 hours. running stock rom, 2.08 radio, stock 16 gig sd card
i have tried radio 2.10.50.26 and 2.12.50.02.2
all have SOD. all rebooted when i tried to log in at the market place
i have tried nearly all the roms
it seems like only mattc is the most stable..
but he hasn't have any updates for the last 10 days.
thanks

Cant agree with you on that. I have also tried different roms, and stayed on Darkstone 2.1 from 18.8.10. I use 2.12.50.02.2, Elegancia v10, Class 2 16gb card which is almost full and I have only 2 issues:
1. SOD after you try to wake the phone up and immediately put it to sleep (Power button, and a second after again). It takes about 20 seconds until it starts working again. My suspicion, gsensor/sdcard, nothing to do with radio.
2. Bluetooth, A2DP controls do not work on my Bluetooth headset.
So, for me, this is the most stable.
BTW, I can run a battery for around 24 hours with gmail push, exchange push (through Touchdown, not native Android program) and average usage of calls, SMS, Wifi, Youtube and Market..
is there a good combination that boots android everytime and doesnt die at any point?
using wonmo rom 1.66.405.2
radio 2.11.50.20
and froyostone 3.2
unfortunatly android only boots about 1 time out of 10, why tho?
sometimes boot, sometimes blue screen, sometimes black screen with green htc sometimes resets?
anyone else having this problem but once it boots it works great apart from sometimes dying sod or freeze when i plug in the charger.
i'm using
windows rom: 1.66.404.1
radio: 2.12.50.02_2
my androids boots always.. but there are a few connection drops but it's ok
Mine using Omega WWE v16?? forgotten, radio 2.15.50.xxxx, and Madeejay eVo v1.7, always work except sometimes crash com.android.phone while the system still runs. Just download v2.2 yesterday and while waiting the startup, found v2.3 is out!
Anywa, the v2.2 starts andnow going to check it up.
Check my sig. This combo has NEVER failed on me...

cheers i'll try that. didnt really wanna start changing my windows rom as well but looks like im gonna have to give it a go as i've tried just about all the radios and numerous android bulids takes about 10 attempts to start up. then if it freezes gotta go through it all again
heard the chunky rom works well with it?
is there any onther settings in windows or android that that need to be on or off for it to work better?
Check my sig - this is a very stable build, I have no issues other than occasionally flaky mobile data connection!
I have found that a fuller WinMo ROM works better for android - I had trouble with some of the "stripped out for Android" ROMs available. Artemis is a high performance ROM with all features, if anyone knows of a more bleading edge ROM I would like to know!
Been using my combo since the beginning. OzDroid has been nothin but excellent. Hyperdroid is, in my opinion, the best build out there.
No problems whatsoever.
Data is strong. Bluetooth is working. This is my everyday setup. Only time I see WinMo is when I update files or whatnot.

On the energy rom and does seem better but still not get a boot everytime. ive tried mdeejay hd and i like it but still not booting up everytime and had a few sod when charging.
hyperdroid has seemed to be the most consistent for me but is there a desire sense version or theme for it or something?
check my sig, so far so good
my setup works flawlessly.
my first try tho i thought it locked up on initial setup, so i pulled the batt. when i rebooted i ran logcat to see what whas happening, turns out i pulled batt while it was setting audio , i wiped my sdcard and started over.
this time i waited a few min for it to set up the kernel etc, once that was done i conected thru adb and watched the logcat for errors etc. once it calmed down ( about 20 min) then i proceded to log in, set up my google account. once that calmed down i rebooted, loged into the market and lodded my apps etc.... all good.
VBN reloaded 2 minimal winmo.
MDEEJAY rEVOlution 2.0
Radio 2.0.12
Consistent 7mA idle.
Battery lasts whole day normal use (5 phone calls, 30 sms, auto email sync on 4 accts. - about 150 emails..30 mins internet) . No freeze, no SOD. Kow

Exactly how do you find out what version of ROM, Radio etc. are on your phone?
still suffering some SOD what tips are there to minmise this? like i head taking off auto lock or something in windows helps? and some other screen settings?
another side note, if it fails to load intermitently, im going to bet that the data on the sdcard is corupt. copy the files off it, format it, then copy back on.
if that does not work, format it wiping every thing and start from scratch.
Best combo
I think if you use the latest tmobile us build 3 14 501 with radio 2 15 50 04, these are my results for two days
the froyo builds with nexus kernel fail miserably, lot of things go haywire or work slowly, wifi slow ,camera flash gets stuck, sods with brightness, apps work slowly, consume battery more
but with the above wm 6 rom with the same radio htc sense builds like
mdeejay rock and they are fast as lightning, everything works smooth
with the above wm6rom build and radio ,on both build types(froyo and evo) there is no robo voice
this i tried even after i flashed the new stock rom it didnot disable my hspl 3 which i had installed earlier.htc sense build worked with it fine.
However i was slightly scared about the new t mobile rom with regard to nexus kernels and i reverted back to energy leo oct 25 build with radio 2 10 50 26 which is awesome.i reinstalled mdeejay evo stock rom which is awesome fast and blazing with some minimal echo still, it works better with the energy rom and radio 2 10 50 26 this is my daily android phone build i use.
My current build test
Currently as i stated above my build is mdeejay evo stock 1.1 with r8 hastarin kernel , energy rom oct 25 and radio 2 10 50 26
for all users i recommend using us hd2 rom builds as there is something different between the two hd2 makes us and non us
as i flashed a non us build 3 14 core wm 6 rom and it did bad things to my android froyo hd 3, mdeejay buildss, so i reverted back to energy roms and now with radio 2 10 50 26 its my daily build with excellent working status (battery at the end of day with no wifi or data is 85%)
i have another micro sd card it has miui build from mcm joon mccm se 3 with hastrarin r 8 kernel which is working awesome with my build but the battery consumption is too much about 4%/hr, i dont know why the nexus based builds consume so much battery. I will work on it this weekend
my defaut micro sd card is 16 gb i got with hd2 it has the mdeejay build ,miui build is on the kingston 8 gb class 4 card.
Micro sd card
I dont know the conclusion of this test results i have
my wm6 rom is energy rom and radio 2 10 50 26, micro sd card is default 16 gb sandisk class 2 card
froyostone v 3.2 was slow on it, while the mdeejay evo stock version 1.1 is blazing fast ,there is something mdeejay does with the animations sometimes they annoy you but are so blazing fast with minimal battery consumption.
This weekend i am getting my class6 16 gb sandisk card and i am going to try all the builds on it along with various radios and wm6 roms. Will post the result as soon as possible.
My question is there is something called swap( disk space) used in linux distros where they use it as a part of their ram space so they keep all the applications in it for faster work . Is there any way we can use it in android so that the apps run faster with minimal battery consumption.
For all us hd 2 users please use radio with 50 in it.
My simulation of froyostone build
I simulated what darkstone did to his hd2 with the same wm6 rom and the same radio and the same android build , but the only difference was my us hd 2 , it failed miserably with wifi slow, flash got stuck and apps were damn slow and sods, ultimately it became unusable and i had to switch to mdeejay build . Thats why i always feel there is something diffrerent in both hd2 models as well as there is some difference in the wm6 rom builds for each of them.
I am still waiting for darkstones new build with sense as it will be always with better stability.

Was facing the SOD once a day till installed WM ChuckyDroidROM (this is IMPORTANT) + 2.12.50 Radio + android ROM of your choice (IMHO mdeejay does it properly
I forgot about these black screens completely
Installing Android = Pain in the A**
for more than a month trying to install android flashing, hard reseting, restoring
i am really tired i even forgot why i wanna use android any way.
my current software information is:
OS version 5.2.21869 (21869.5.0.82)
manila version 2.5.19211619.0
rom version 1.66.415.9 (76641) WWE
radio version 2.15.50.14
protocol version 15.42.50.11U
HSPL 3
can any body tell me which of the above needs changing and which android version should i use?
my current android version is froyostone and mp3 not working and incoming and outgoing calls robot sound i cant hear any thing
thanks
ive been playing around with android a lot recently, but i seem to be getting the same or similar errors with every build. i think the problem comes down to an unformatted memory card. i want to start with a fresh phone and memroy card.
my question is which WM build is best for android? i would be using android as my main os but windows mobile would serve as a'backup' os incase android dies on me. i already have a build of android i want to use so just need some advice on which WM build to use. once i have done that i can format the memory card and re-install android.
not sure if it matters, but i would be using a boot loader to get into android. i have radio 2.15.

I'll try to answer the question by sharing my own experience:
I have T-Mobile US HD2 model and tried several builds under "stock" ROM and Radio 2.08 and most of them worked with really bad battery life. Anyhow, I finally decided to move on with installing Hard SPL 2.08 so I can flash custom ROMs into my device. After that following happened:
1. I tried ChuckyDroid ROM lite - barely occupied any space after boot in WinMo - but did not affect Android and how it worked AT ALL! I had shubcraft 2.0 at the moment;
2. Finally after all the chasing I wanted to have fully functional WinMo Rom and fully functional Android build and here is my setup:
Energy 2.5 GTX WinMo ROM based on 3.14 latest TMOUS Update (with the start button on the top);
Android HyperDroid 1.7 with mychprima's kernel (240 lcd density);
Radio is 2.15.50.xx
Re-formatted 16GB stock SD Card I got with my HD2
Results:
Super-smooth Android operation at all times;
Without SetCPU installed (since kernel is already OCd and UVd) my battery life has been AWESOME! I get constant 3-6mA battery stand-by and that alone gives me really good battery life. I am getting one day and few hours after 1.5hr re-charging - that I did not beat with anything I tried on my hd2 before this setup. I have reseted phone last time several weeks ago and not a single force close message so far (to knock on wood hihi) ... No reason to lie - but if you have some time it may be good combo to try our. BTW I do not offer any guarantees on what you do with your phone lol - that's my "fine print" lol

thanks for that, Energy ROMs seem to come up a lot, and as development for my current WM build (CleanEx DSE 6.1) seems to have stopped, il give that a go. im currently getting a lot of force close messages revolving around the sync features. also my HTC calender doesnt work and contact images do not display (I assume because it cant sync them from facebook). im currently using MDJ FroYo Sense Revolution v.1.7 as my android build, but il try your setup. battery life has become a bit of an issue for me, but i am a 'heavy' user.
is it better to format the memory card through WM or through the PC? and should i be setting any options or just leave them at default values?

What I did was reformatting under multimedia card reader - I do not think it matters but that's what I did.
I did find some registry tweaks that manages sd card power a while ago and tried them under stock rom and radio - it did not work but I never bothered to go back since my battery is not really getting drained - lasts enough for me.
I only installed BSB Tweaks and disabled EVERYTHING and left only power-saving ON. I have no clue whether this helps at all or not but just did it as a preventive measure ... also, make sure auto-lock is DISABLED under Windows. That was one of the old issues to get un-wake-able screens ... however, so far I have not really had any problems.
Keep in mind: if you want to install many apps that you would like to test - do not do it in massive installations one after another. Some apps are known to screw up battery life and stand-by mAs. Therefore, install couple at the time - after reboot if you get low mA - then app is not draining the battery.
So far I have experienced Extended power widget to drain the battery a lot and also any type of news browsers like e-buzz, pulse, etc - they seem to constantly pull data and remain active. However, they may work for you if you have data disabled for the most part (which is probably not the case) - forgot to mention mine is on 3/3.5G at all times.
- Background Data is checked (ON);
- Auto Sync is unchecked (OFF);
- Brightness disabled under very strong light (110 lumens of my flashlight hihihi) and set on 35-40% I think - somewhere around there.
- I have three home-screens and do not feel I need more
- Weather widget, current widget and google search widget - I do not have any clocks for simple reason - when the phone is locked I can easily see the time by clicking the hardware buttons - so what's the point of the background one ...
If I remember any other tips and tricks I'll let you know.
I've been working with many different versions of Android on the HD2, last year on SD Card, recently with various configurations. With RadioROM 2.10.50.28_2 I personally get best battery results, regardless of the operating system.
My favorite configuration is Windows Phone 7 in NAND and darkstone's SuperRAM 1.5 on SD Card combined with the fascinating Magldr bootmenu. The SuperRAM loads into ram from SD Card before booting and is even faster than nand-versions. Standby current usage is 2mAh to 7mAh - thats amazing battery life (see RadioROM)! To realize that, i'm missing:
1. HARET-functions in Magldr to boot almost any AD SD
2. taking STARTUP.TXT into account
3. No freeze, if SD-Card is mounted/checked after Android-boot
4. Charging possible if phone is completely switched off.
Thanks for taking notice of a very happy german HD2 user, even if this thing has less ram than TMOUS versions.

Hello
Since i cant reply to another post i have to start one..
Since a few days i have installed android on my hd mini everything is working fine exept that the battery is quickly decreasing. In 10 hours its empty (2 hours working , 8 hours standby).
What i tried using programs like adcanced task killer, startup manager, advanced task manager, battery monitor, currentwidget, droidwall, wheres my droid power.
Dark background, no live feeds, no live wallpapers, just the clock on the home screen (all other home screens are removed).
Wifi always off when not using, bluetooth off, no animations, brightness setted to very low, timeouth 30 sec.
Account and synchronation off
At location gps sattelies and wireles network unchecked.
I dident havent placed a sim card yet ( since the live off the battery is to low)
What i am now just changed is setting the phone settings to "GSM auto (PRL)" and settecting radio band to europe
Will reply if it helps something.
See attachment from currentwidget.
Anyone has more ideas what i can try ?
try a different sd card
from your log i see it doesnt go below 94mA and thats much,i have 5mA in standby.
and uninstall the task killers..they suck

Ty for the reply.
Its already my second sd card and i dont like buying another one..
My first one was a kingston 16 gb class 4 and now i have a Konig Electronic 16gb class 4 since the kingston was always freezing.
Will it help if i format the sd card and install android again ? (it was already formatted in fat32)
Also i always start android from windows and not from a bootscreen does it matters ?
Edit : just checked the forum and there is a new version so i will test it and reply if it fixes the problem

1.no,not really..there can be few tweaks like undervolting, underclocking which can be made in kernel but that's up to devs.
anyway, check my tips n tricks thread..i did find some tweaks to apply while running android and they do work..i have 5mA power usage in standby
2.I would recommend Sandisk although i don't own one(yet)..but i also advise you to wait for the NAND build if you don't want to buy cards anymore..the NAND build should use less power, since sd-card won't be in use 24/7.
Try to turn off wifi...gps...and force close all the apps (by task killer)
i think it will help
Yesterday i installed the new version i first installed and setted the settings and restarted android and nothing was changed still a high usage..
Buth today i tried again and now its +- 10mA in standby
I only have installed the program currentwidget so far and a game(drag racing)
But when using the cellphone what are the normal usages ? I have like 150mA without using anything.
