geez hell no!..

uhhh..can u plz replace the engine of my ferrari with the engine of a toyota yaris
And what's a HD2 compared to a DHD? Answer: a step backwards.
If you want winmo on a DHD, well... keep on dreaming because winmo is dead! Only windows (I)Phone 7 will be put on new devices.
f.
Cut the guy some slack.
I can understand the question. WM6.x is still, at the moment, THE best company mobile OS; tons of apps, legacy code, intra-infrastructure .... WP7 and Android just are not at that level of company wide mobile integration.
Plus, I have to say that programming for WM6.x is the best programming expreience I've had: visual studio, c# and pinvoke when needed make for an easy, fun programming environment. Android is tricky, WP7 is incomplete and locked down ... as a former WM6.x dev who is trying to transition to android on my new DHD, I can understand wanting to just run wm6.x and the programs I've dev'd on my DHD.

maybe he mentioned it wrong.. maybe he was intended to ask either is it possible for WP7 for Desire HD
my answer is, once WP7 is ported to any highly supported by dev phone such as the nexus one.. it might come to desire HD
though im not disagreeing with statement above the HTC desire hd and HD7 have similar spec and size it might be (not really a dev just a thought) easier to port. If im honest i would love to have windows phone on my DHD i like the idea of having 2 nandroids and swapping between them as windows phone brings some nice features and apps to the table.

Hi
I know its HTC dedicated forum, but since there is lots of hi skilled chefs I would like to ask a question. Will it be hard to port HTC Sense from Android to Meamo?
N900 seems to be a very nice piece of hardware but Maemo lacks the polishness of HTS Sence ....

I doubt it'll happen. It hasn't even been ported to the Touch Pro 2 nevermind Maemo phones.
lacks the polish? how so? Meamo might just be the strongest standalone OS on a phone. Its almost a down grade to go to android, give it some time, that maemo community is almost as stong as the XDA community.
Well
I do not want to say bad world on maemo. Just i am missing a few things ...
like
Vertical menu
Dialer which looks directly into phone book - like on WinMo device
Nice clock app
Maybe this all will come with updates. And also - I do not talk about moving to Android - I am talking about portin Sense app to maemo. Secne is just the app like TouchFlo ...

sorry I must i just misunderstood, I thought u said u wanted HTC sense from andriod ported to maemo (edit, it is what u asked). What you're really asking for you would more likely find over in the Maemo.org forum. I would figure it being pretty tough being as though the n900 has no softkeys or hardkeys other than the keyboard. The only reason I didn't opt for a n900 was because of the landscape orientation of the phone, otherwise it was everything i've ever wanted in a phone. I wish windows could multitask so efficiently. Hope u find what u want heres a good place to start
N900 running android(Dual-Boot)
It's somewhat old news, but it appears that someone managed to get android running on the N900.

Does anyone know how to convert a android Sprint evo ( HD2 ) to windows 6.5?
Has it been done?
All my software is windows based and I want to upgrade to HD2.
If someone can give me some direction and it has been done that would be nice. I have changed roms on my phone before but never PLATFORMS....
Can it be done?
Or do i need to buy a HD2 windows from Tmobile and unlock it?
Thanks for all the help
Chris
i dont think that will work, like, at all.
wimo wont have the drivers needed to properly utilize the hardware. buy a winmo phone, save yourself the headache.
We just answered this in the inproperly-posted topic on the dev board. There is also a topic about it on the Q&A board.
And you can't unlock an HD2 to work on sprint, just in case you were thinking of doing that.

It's practically impossible. It's a task that would take a team of dedicated engineers weeks to achieve--for us at XDA, it'd be so impractical it might as well be impossible.
If you want/need Windows Mobile, buy a WinMo phone. Shoe-horning Android onto WinMo phones is different because it's all open source. WinMo is closed-source, so it's an entirely different animal.
Can we get a sticky on this topic? Seems some hapless person comes and asks this question at least once a week.
The answer is no. Nobody is going to put time and effort into porting an outdated piece of junk operating system that was created before George Burns crawled out of the ocean to your modern smartphone. If you want a crap operating system you're going to need to go buy a crap phone (possibly from your local thrift store or perhaps a museum).
When you're ready to join us all in the 21st century then get to know Android a little bit. If there is something you're missing from the Windows Mobile era it would be easier for you to get that functionality created for Android than to get Windows Mobile working on your phone and continue to be stuck in the dark ages.

I could be wrong but I dont think winmo is coming out with anymore phones after the HD2 until that windows phone stuff. And they probably royally screwed themselves with that move by giving a ton of people the chance to try android who wont be going back.

Have fun with your new carrier. No one is going to release an new 6.5 phone. First WM 6.5 sucks, a lot, compared to other modern operating systems. Second, it's a dead operating system for the most part. With WM7 coming out this fall everyone is developing for that. 6.5 will stay around for a while in dedicated phones for the corporate state but it is dead for the consumer space.

wm sucks so hard!
winmos sucks lol
There was a time I thought I would never leave WinMo. Then I tried an Android and holy cow, it was like night and day. Not only is Android a super sexy OS, but it also does absolutely everything I wanted in WinMo.
I admin Windows Servers so I had to have a device with a Remote Desktop client. Not only are there plenty available for Android, but they are way better than the WinMo version....go figure!
On top of that, compare the $30-$50 you would spend on WinMo software with the $2-$20 costs of the same stuff in the Android Marketplace.
There really is no comparison at all.
It's possible onto this apparatus android to make an operating system?

And
Wp7=feature phone
Android=true smartphone.

So do I. I think a wp7 gui i very comfortible and useful. Imho the future belongs to wp7 phones.
I was here for a simple wi-fi ad hoc connection and to know if is possible wi fi sharing (now I know that it's so difficult but not impossible) for my lg optimus 7.
Sorry guys, not for offende noone but it's true that wp7 is easy but smartphone IMHO are mini pc and for me they must be able to navigate (if free it's better), have native multitasking, have flash for a best browsing experience, a little bit of game, just for fun or as timekiller, and some tool for syncronize calendar and mail for business. I'm an ex wm 6.1 lover with htc diamond and others, an apple's hater for restricted policy and wp7 is going in this direction. So for me, and I'm so sorry for this, wp7 have all the defects of osx Without the benifits of apple store. The only benifits over apple is that I can choose an economic device or high end device, but there's no compare with Android. Please, try a Samsung Galaxy S or Desire HD with a cooked rom and with lagfix actived. Now my lg optimus 7 is a paperweight.....

Yes, I think that hd2 it's the most beautiful window's device, better than osx and wp7, very close to Android, the only problem the lag after long use...

Maybe this Android freedom is interesting for who is discovering this kind of thing now, but as a former user of Symbian and WinMo for the last 5 years, this "freedom" isn't interesting for me anymore.
I don't need a "mini PC" in my pocket, I just want to do what I need to do quickly, and for that, WP7 is the best for me.
I don't know for you guys, but I get sick of all those menus and sub-menus to access everything I need on Symbian/WinMo/Android.
I would like to get a little bit more freedom on WP7, but I still can do all I need to do, so it's ok.
Don't you trolls have a cave gathering somewhere? I could swear it was the troll mating season.

Hi all:
I'm putting an idea that may lead to WP7 in DHD.
both DHD and HD7 has the same hardware with a slightly changes (That i think will not affect the performance just the users requirement)
but what makes HD7 accept WP7 and DHD refuse it is the bootloader HD7 uses SPL/HSPL bootloader but DHD uses HBOOT (not compatible with WP7).
so if any one could successfully install HSPL on DHD it will be possible to install WP7 on DHD.
I want to hear about the idea please dont put comments on someones personal reference.
many thanks
Hi, I don't want to ruin your idea but this subject was discussed over and over and with all the arguments that users add, the wp7 will never been ported to DHD on XDA forum, as WP7 is closed source and owned by Microsoft. Android is open source and that's why windows phones can run it.
PS: I really want a device which can boot multiple OS's (even IOS) but it's not possible due to closed sources.

HD2 is windows genuine, maybe that's why.
The main problem is not if it can be done. More that MS will sue your ads if you try. Seriously its not worth trying & ant dev doesn't want to end up in court against Microsoft because your effectively distributing WP7 without paying for the license.
If you want a dual boot its best to buy a WP then put Android on that instead of Ty he other way round. As for iOS, no chance!

This is pretty much why. It could be done, given time and the right resources, but rather than sitting in that undefined grey area that XDA sometimes sits in with software modification. This definitely is on the wrong side.
If your Google-fu is strong, try looking for the lawsuit MS brought against XDA in the past for distributing WM ROMs.
Sadly this thread must now be closed.
Well,
What do u guys Think? Can the HD2 handle Wp8? or maybe only Windows Phone 7.8? Im acutally going to base my desicion of buying a new phone upon whether HD2 will get windows phone 8 or not.
All devs busted there asses working on the HD2, i mean what more can we ask from them?
7.8 yes but WP8 no... WP8 have different hardware.... maybe someone cook lite version but look how many problems we have with drivers for now...
so true, there are so many bugs and more and more devs drop their developing for HD2 and moves on to new devices, which means we are in a down hill and it will be harder and harder to fix many bugs and strange behaviours. Correct me if im wrong, but I guess we should be happy if we even get WP 7.8 anytime before summer of 2013

We said this so many times before, until I lost count loll. Just because there is another phone with smiliar specs as the HD2 doesnt mean that all we need is move the software and we are good to go...There is alot of diffrences in the code (not to mention Windows CE => Windows NT) between WP 7.5 and WP8, I think we need to rewrite some drivers!!!

It´s true. Drivers could be diferent of the HD2, but also is posible that the HTC Rio have got similar chipset and the drivers ports could be easy. I don´t lose the hope.
HTC Rio is a S4 device and our is S1.
There is still hope though, WP8 has more documentation compared to Windows Phone 7.
Nokia Lumia 920 is out today..
Windows phone 8 looks fantastic, i really hope that you guys can make it.
Please make it happen
Flickr and blur free camera shoots would be just great!
no chance for WP8 on HD2... especially when i see today presentation of Lumia 920....
hardware is toooo low for WP8 and too different....
P.S.
i love Smart Shoot on Lumia 920 automatically remove walking people from photography
lumia 900 can't up to WP8, so i think our HD2 can't too ^^

I love it when the " all knowing" members try to make fun of someone's question. Instead of just replying with a "yes" or "no" someone always has to be a real jerk. They probably will make a wp8 ROM for the HTC hd2, because people enjoy it.

It's not just people enjoying it. Sure, it has its weight, but remember, this ain't Android. We have the source code of almost nothing.
If we can find a device with very similar (read, almost all) hardware, we might have a chance of using it's drivers on HD2.
Has it stands, i hardly doubt there will be a single core, adreno200 WP8 device. Even on WP7 we're strugling with driver incompatibility. Why do you think we have such weird battery usage? And that camera trick? That's a exploit that's probably reseting some driver/process and lowering our battery consumption.
Where there's a will, there's a way... it's not impossible, just very difficult and highly improvable.
the porting of 7.8 has been very simple for devs, i think that we have serious possibilities to see WP8 on hd2!
