TMO HD2 vs HTC HD2; which one runs android better - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I am planning to buy a HD2 just to run android on it. I have the option to buy TMob HD2 (bigger RAM and ROM) and the HTC HD2 (smaller RAM and ROM).
Am sure that almost all the Android ROMs work on both phones. I just want to know, which of these runs android better?
I really like Desire HD but its currently very expensive here (~US$ 710) and I don't want to spend that much. whereas HD2 (both Tmob and HTC) is available for ~US$ 435. So am thinking of buying HD2.

If you're from the US, you should get a TMO HD2 for sure, they're the only ones you'll have 3G possibilities with, and you have more internal memory. EDIT: That's assuming you have TMO as provider. If you don't, you won't get 3G on your TMO phone.
If you live outside the US, you'll need an HTC (well, they're both HTC of course) if you want 3G, but you can still use a TMO for everything but 3G if you really like to have that 512mb extra internal memory (not the best choice if you ask me).
If you're Australian, I'm not really sure what you should do because I think they have an even different version.

not sure where ur from , if your from ASIA T mob is the deal coz u get 3G!!, well u can actualy gte one on XDA for as low as 250$

If you are in the US and have ATT, get the Telstra/Australia version as it has support for ATT's 850mhz 3g band I think. Just depends on where you're located and what carrier you have. I would go with the version that I could receive 3g service on.

Get TMOUS HD2

I don't know what you guys are thinkin but all hd2's are tmobile in america. so if your from another country than this question is legit but if your in america all hd2's are htc and tmobile branded.

Yeah, but you can still order one from Australia, which will allow you to get 3g with at&t in USA.

thanks for the suggestions guys. I am from Pakistan and there is no 3G here. my only concern is the performance of both variants. with more RAM and ROM, does TMO HD2 perform better as compared to the HTC HD2 while using android?

For Australian HD2 be aware the "Next G" version is model 9193 ( 850 - 2100mhz), you can still get the 8585 model that has different frequencies that are 900Mhz - 2100mhz. This is not great for Australia as there is the Next G network from Telstra (works well everywhere with minimum 3G but H in metro) and the 3G network (3G in metro areas and normal edge network elsewhere).
You need to check which model you are getting as there has been an influx of 8585 models available on ebay.

I'm in the US and had the Euro version of the HD2 several months before getting my TMUS phone. I tried every Winmo ROM available on both, finding no discernable difference in performance. I can't address any potential performance differences in Android however as I sold my Euro phone prior to Android builds being introduced.

There will be no difference when running android. Only difference between phones is 3g radio and rom size. Rom size will give more storage space once android can be installed on rom, but there will be no difference in performance.

HTC HD2 or T-Mobile HD2

hi every body please help me in this
my cousin live in USA and his network is T-Mobile and he asked them for me if he buy the T-Mobile HD2 will give him the unlock code and their answer was yes .. so he will renew his contract and will get one for $250 >> and of course me who will pay ... this the first option
the second option is I buy the normal HTC HD2 from Amazon for $717
so now which option I should choose
- I am living in Egypt
- my network is Vodafone
- need Arabic on my mobile (read and write )
- need to try the roms
- this is the first time I use the windows mobile
and all of this I will be able to do it with the normal HTC HD2
so what about the T-Mobile HD2 ??
- can I apply on it the Arabic without problems ?
- can I use the Themes , games and the applications of the normal HTC HD2 on it easy ?
.
hope some one help me
I'll do my best to help you.
The biggest problem I see with you purchasing the US T-Mobile HD2 is the 3g band. People are pretty sure that the US T-Mobile HD2 will work on the 2100 band (Asia/Middle East/Europe 3g band), but no one has actually tried it from what I can tell, so we don't know if it works. You will receive Edge coverage of course.
If the 3g works in your area or you don't care about 3g, then definitely get the US TMO HD2. The US version has more memory and is substantially cheaper than the unlocked HTC version. By the way, your cousin can also buy the phone for $450 without having to extend his contract for 2 years.
Keep in mind that in most cases T-Mobile will not give your cousin the unlock code till 40 days after purchase to avoid returns. You can also pay around $20 to get the code from an unlock site. If he buys the phone for $450 he can get the unlock code within a few days from T-Mobile.
Yes, you can put all the themes, games, and applications made for the HD2 on either the US HD2 or the unlocked HTC HD2.
Yes, you can put Arabic language, or any ROM made for the US HD2. The ROM has to specify the US version or the larger memory size. You CANNOT use any ROM on the US HD2 because some ROMs are for the unlocked HTC HD2 with the smaller memory and can damage the US version if used.
I hope all this makes sense and your questions are answered.

You're welcome.
You can follow the thread below to see if anyone tries it in Europe or Asia and we'll have the answer to the 3g working outside the US.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=658567
As for flashing the ROM, don't be worried, a lot of the ROMs out there will work on the US HD2. The phone has been a pretty hot seller here, so a lot of people will be working on the US version and more ROMs and mods will be released for sure.
Don't buy it. Phone pretty. Windows killing it
You need both Upload and download frequencies in the mobile matching your provider to get 3G.
2100 is the download freq, which is common to both Americas and EU, but US had 1900/850/1700 for upload and EU uses 900.
You have to make sure both the freq are supported by the phone. At the looks of it I'm pretty sure the TMOUS HD2 will not have 3G for you in Egypt.
Everything else you asked for can be done in both phones.

HTC HD2
HSDPA 900 / 2100
HSDPA 850 / 2100 - American version
and it works great in Egypt
T-Mobile HD2
HSDPA 1700 / 2100

THe question here is, although T Mo us use umts 850 and 2100 for their 3g, one up one down, i also seem to remember when reading up on umts/hsdpa/blahblah that some networks use the same band for up and down. If that were so, is the hd2 capable of holding a two way connection on one band? ie 2100?
(I may be completely mistaken, of course )

That's exactly my thinking too. Europe and Asia use 2100 up and down for 3g data, and they use 900 for Edge and voice. The only question with the US HD2 is if the 2100 band supports up and down or only down. Some specs for the US HD2 show 1700/2100 and also 2100 by itself, which makes some of us believe it will handle Euro/Asia 3g. We won't know for sure till someone unlocks a unit and drops a 3g sim in Asia or Europe and reports back.
Let's keep our fingers crossed.
T-Mobile USA, FTW!!!
In my opinion, "de-branded" hardware is always superior, but for once... not in this case.

let your cousine buy you nexus one or htc desire wm6.5 is dead
I already bought one!
Hey Everyone
I'm from Egypt. I already bought a t-mobile htc hd2 (TM), after doing a hell of a survey about the differences between it and the international. They r different in size, slight taller in TM and ofcourse branded.
There r red and green keys(end and answer) instead of the white in the international.
Band differences, but i searched for the unlocked TM, ppl confirm 3g working for carrier networks outside the US(philippines, germany, sweden, UAE, brazil)!!! So i guess it will work in Egypt since the band is 2100, i hope it's for both ways up and downloads.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6735562
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=658567
Bigger ROM (1)
16gb microSD included in the box
The TM is alot cheaper even if it's sold already unlocked, i got it worth 470 $ unlocked from ebay but will come to me through a friend.
I will try my vodafone sim and see how it works and will give feedback.
I hope the 3g works as i guessed!!
Finally!!!
Wooooooooooooohhhhhhoooooooooooo!!!
Just got the phone, and the 3g network is working perfectly like a charm!!!
Thank God!!
Awesome phone!!! I love hTC!!
So that makes Africa included with the others and especially Egypt for the TMOUS working for 3g network outside the US!!
Go ahead HD2 lovers BUY........ and ENJOY!!!

want to buy a HD2.Help!!

I know that there are two version for HD2:T version and htc version. The T version's RAM and ROM is larger than the htc's.But I wonder why the T version's price is cheaper than the htc's.And some people told me that the T version is unstable and can't install some ROM.(By the way,I'm from China. If I buy the HD2,I need brushing machine.)
I'm hesitated for a long time:which version should I buy?
So,what's your guys' opinion?
The t-mobile version is cheaper because t-mobile lowers the price for starting a 2 year service contract. The import (I'm in the US) version is purchased without a contract and is therefore unsubsidized. From what I've gathered the two variations are nearly identical in performance, build quality etc.
Thanks! This is my first oversea thread and I'm so glad that you give me a reply!
I thought that the T-Mobile HD2 was the one sold in the US and the other HD2 is the one sold in the rest of the world. Correct me if I'm wrong but they are pretty much the same except slight size and memory changes.

The UK one is the same as everyone's except the T-Mobile US model.
The US T-Mobile HD2 has a similar spec to the rest of the world, except it has a larger on-board memory (1Gb I believe) and an 'unlocked' larger RAM.

Actually that is not entirely accurate , the TMOUS has a different radio, as do some of the EU models , for instance if you want to use one on AT&T 3G in the states, you need the telstra model from OZ, as it supports the WCDMA 850 band , the US(TMO) version only supports 1700/2100 WCDMA for 3G.
Most all will work on all Providers , using standard GSM/EDGE freqs but not on 3G.
EDIT:
It seems though AT&T is cracking down on NON-AT&T devices though ....

Can't t-mobile hd2 use roms for leo hd2??

I'm about to buy hd2 but a shop only sells t-mobile hd2.
I'm wondering if I can use the roms for leo hd2.
You can use custom roms found here on XDA on a tmobile HD2.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
you can use MOST custom roms on the tmous.
@OP the tmous will only take roms that are v 2.x or higher, so that means none of the non tmous stock roms (which include a deadly radio anyway) and no cooked roms that are based on 1.x base roms. Read the roms thread, they generally cleary say that they are tmous compatible, most are.
Oh , thank you for good information
Then, t-mobile one is faster than international one? since it has 1 gb rom and 512 mb ram
I flash whatever ROM I find.... Since the onces that are not cmopatible with th US Version would normally have something like this at the top of the post
DOES NOT WORK ON THE US HD2 or something...
So i'll avoid those.... But it helps to read the entire post, .50 radios are compatible. any other Radio version wont work...
Just a thought.... Most rom are just that...ROMs not a combination of (ROM/Radio) like the ones issued from T-Mobile and HTC
Edit: All the HTC HD2 / LEOs are the Similar in Speed.. The only major difference is the ROM(storage) Spaced Where as the US Version had 1G all the others only have 512MB

You forgot one major factor....
If you live in USA you'll most definitely want the T-Mobile edition anyway because the international version won't give you 3G/HSPA+. That's if you plan on purchasing the data plan.
T-Mobile US 3G/H requires the 1700/2100 Frequency

no, a bigger fuel tank doesn't make a car go faster,,,, morerom just means more storage, not more speed.

Help me decide in respect to HD2

Hi all, we are at a very exciting moment for the history of this excellent smartphone.
I own a HD2 European version (originally from Spanish Vodafone), and I was wondering if you think it is worth selling it and buying the T-Mous 1Gb ROM version instead.
I come to you, asking if I would have any problems (incompatibility issues) by using the US HD2 in Belgium or any other European country.
Is the additional 512mb ROM worth changing? I found out that I could probably buy the US version for the same price I would sell the European one.
As I am not sure about any potential problems that the US HD2 might have, that is why I request your input.
Thank you all in advance for all your help.

Android builds work great on the HD2... and now we can run wp7 flawlessly. Soon we'll figure out a way to have both on our phones.
OP... since android builds most work now with apps2sd, having the extra 512mb rom isn't all that necessary. I would keep whatever HD2 gives you 3g reception in your area.

I think you did not understand what I was asking. I have an European version HD2, this means that I only have 512 Mb ROM instead of the 1Gb ROM that comes with the T-Mous one.
As said by zarathustrax, there is a possibility of running both WP7 and Android from NAND, but for that you need space and 512Mb won't cut it.
As for the 3g, is it true that the US version is not compatible with the European network?

You can still use it as a phone and get 2g speeds on data, but for 3g the tmobile US HD2 only uses 1700/2100 for 3g... I don't think any carriers in europe use those band for 3g. Thats why US users can't take a european HD2 and get 3g in US. Phones are quadband for gsm, but for 3g, they only have 2 bands each model... that's why there's 3 different models of HD2s for different parts of the world.
Also, if you do get the t-mobile US version, you would have to sim-unlock it also to use on a different carrier.

[Q] HTC HD2 T-Mobile US - are they all the same?

I own HTC HD2 from Europe. It has only 512Mb of flashable memory. I want to buy a T-Mobile HD2 from ebay. But when I was reading descriptions, some phone's ids were HTC Touch Pro. And I have seen a whole few of those at ebay. Does it mean that the sellers didn't know better, or that under the name HD2 could be a couple of family lines? Also, some description said that the camera was 3mp.
So, my worry is that trying to buy a T-Mobile HTC HD2 with 1Gb internal memory, I might end up with something different than the original T-Mobile HTC HD2.
Or maybe I am just dealing with sellers who don't know much about phones, and I don't need to worry?

Be careful you don't end up with a different phone all together..
Tmobile US HD2 has the same specs as the Europe one except for the Nand Space like you said...
Only one model US HD2

Tmobile AWS (3G) etc...
The touch pro is a model before the hd2 so stick with items that have htc HD2 and the pictures (better to see the actual item before buying)

I am in Canada, on the Bell network. I know there are some differences between US and Canada because of different networks. Which model would I look for, to get an unlocked HD2? Thanks.
also make sure you're not getting a Chinese knock off.

I believe you'd be better off with the telstra (Aussie network) version...
This would allow you to use 3g on Rogers... but I'm not sure about bell. They may use different bands.
I'm not 100% on the details but do a search on telstra hd2 Canada etc etc and you'll get some more reliable info...

It'll work on the Bell network as well, as Bell/Rogers/Telus all use the same bands ( though Bell/Telus and Rogers have different networks).
Just make sure you're getting the Telstra 9193 model.
