Why have ALL the StupidFast release threads been deleted? Where is Geeknik? - Fascinate General

Just thought it was really weird...all the StupidFast kernel threads have been removed. Any idea why?

I was just looking for them. As if they never existed. Weird.

I searched for them today as well and couldn't find them...
I was wondering what the deal was.

Bad news...I just found this:
http://twitter.com/#!/geeknik/status/6988705667481600

I just read on his twitter account that he's not doing the kernel's anymore. Oh well.

He did also post this on twitter for those who are still looking:

Geeks kernels are good yes....but lets face reality here the difference between his and jt's aren't that huge and to say they are that much faster (if they even are at all) is very misleading....and without jt there wouldn't be anything for this phone
BTW I'm not putting down anything geek has done....he's done a lot for the community
Just pointing that out

I agree thanks jt

geek is still around in irc...hes a great guy..stop in and say hi

I haven't gone anywhere. Yes. There was some IRC drama. It is sorted out. No hard feelings between me and jt. We're still working together to make the Fascinate a better phone. Yes, my original kernel was forked off of JT's work, but I'm doing my own thing now and I still pass stuff on to JT when I find it.

And my kernels are also in ROM Manager. I just released a v1.69 TEST kernel in the last 24 hours. It's for DJ05.
Enjoy. =)

thank you!

1.69 gave me no boot up screen?

I'm trying out your kernels now! I'm glad to have such active devs for root development.

Thanks for all the work on the Kernels!
I just tried installing 1.9 via RomManager, over your previous test version and the fascinate got stuck after scanning media card... forever - should it have worked or am i installing it inappropriately...

So tell me, how much (if any) tweaking is done on these builds when you have source? I was a gentoo user for a while so I'm used to fiddling with the compiler flags even to the point of making my system unstable just because it was fun to tweak.
Anyway I appreciate Jcase's work!

CM 6.1 probably no vibrant :(

Sorry to say but, at this point (unless someone pulls a miracle), it looks like the vibrant wont make the CM 6.1 release
(basing my info on 2 tweets)

@TheDudesAndroid @noobnl_epic @cyanogen @koush what do you think? http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#change,2152
@noobnl_epic
@wesgarner @TheDudesAndroid @cyanogen @koush should be removed
the link in wes's tweet says
Change I36172fd3: vibrant: Temporarily remove from CM manifest
vibrant: Temporarily remove from CM manifest
Reasons:
1. It doesn't compile - this can be fixed, though
2. It doesn't work... - currently the kernel inside the repo doesn't work plus the build system is not set up to flash the kernel
3. The Vibrant repo is about 2mths old
4. The Vibrant repo contains proprietary. On my fork, I have changed everything over to use extract-files, removed proprietary from all commits using filter-branch
We can refork my repo for the Vibrant, but at the same time - it still isn't ready, so mostly having it on the CM repos for 6.1 RC's this weekend is pretty pointless considering where we are in getting CM6 for the Vibrant
My manifest (git://github.com/wesgarner/android.git) is setup for the current Galaxy S repos (aka my Vibrant repo and noobnl's Epic repo), but this is still such a WIP that keeping it on CM repos really just confuses people about the current status and makes it seem like it's ready when it isn't

i'm fine with that. bionix is honestly better than cm was on my g1, and those cm guys are a bunch of assholes. if (mostly) one guy can build a rom from scratch, i don't understand how a whole team can't figure it out.
You cant expect one guy to make a rom for all android devices. If it doesnt work. O well. I mean there are other roms out there for those wanting to mess with there phones. Bionix is one. And many more to come to the vibrants way. You ppl keep asking these devs who have other lives outside xda. And then get pissed when theres no special rom for ur phone. C'mon now.

the donations were made to wes/scepterr... that has nothing to do with CM. true they are members of the CM team, but all they ever said was that they had plans to port CM6... that doesn't mean they have to, and anyone who decided to donate should have realized that a PLAN does not equal a promise.
if it fails, well crap. if they come back to it later and it works, hooray! until then, your donations belong to whoever you donated to. because that's how donations work.

Wow.... Are you serious? d
First you're comparing your Vibrant to a G1, of course it will be better! Even with a stock Vibrant.
Second, the CM guys or any dev for this matter, who gives their free time to make ROMs and MODs for peasants like you and I who cant do it ourselves, are assholes?! How?!
Third, yes it only takes one talented dev to build a ROM from scratch, but without the SOURCE they have no base to work on. It really isnt easy to make a ROM from scratch, and as far as I know only a few devs have successfully done so. Most of them base it on another dev's work or samsung itself...

Haha.... You think that the bionix ROM came from scratch??? He took eugenes base from the Ftwiz ROM. He even says it in the credits. Not trying to sell the ROM or development short, because it is a great ROM.
All the devs that are tied to the vibrant are trying to reverse engineer the code to get the 2.2 source which samsung has not released. Building 2.2 with out the source code is like building a sky scrapper from the top to the bottom, everything will crash. Where as 2.1 with source is building from ground up, you start from a solid foundation, then work your way up...
Wes also stated to anyone who wanted there money back, they can email him for a refund.
Just give it time. The source for the i9000 froyo was just released; it will come eventually, but development is going to lag behind that for the Nexus One, Dinc, etc. Just be glad we're getting some kind of CM; think of all the other phones that aren't even on the list.

Very true!
after reading their various tweets regarding them passing the buck on vibrant development, yes, they're assholes. it was clearly a joke to them because they know it's a huge hassle, so they should have just said it was probably never going to happen. i'm very grateful for the handful of devs that have actually stepped up and made this phone into what it should have been out of the box. it was clear that the cm team never cared in the first place.

1.28GHz IS NOT REAL

1.28GHz IS NOT REAL
I know I posted it, and people have been running it. But after looking over the code more last night, I realized that I had been had. I took the word of another developer on the line for 1.28GHz, added it to my kernel, and it magically worked. After looking at it closer, whether intentional or not, he had the multiplier set at 0x1E(30), which is 1.152GHz. So even though it's reporting 1.28GHz, it's really running at 1.152GHz.
I've learned my lesson trusting someone else for what I should have looked into more closely, and I hope you all don't think worse of me for doing that. I apologize for leading people astray with this, but hey, at least I'm man enough to admit it.
Again, I really feel bad for misleading people on this, it's not in my nature to do that, ok maybe some, but not with something like this.
With that all said, I could do one showing maybe 4.71GHz, now that'd be awesome for screenshots. lol
Z
No worries. The cool thing is that my phone was actually mostly stable at 1.15 which was never really possible before. Usually i get freezes and bootloops. On yours the worse i got was an app quitting once in awhile.
no worries dude you did the right thing
So if I get up to 88 miles per hour my phone won't put out the 1.28 gigawatts to make me time travel? That's a shame.

Not a problem man, it wasn't like you were doing it on purpose. So all is good. We appreciate your work!
Makes sense. I tried it on the Feather ROM and was getting almost exactly the same performance/scores.
Much appreciated for coming clean and letting everyone know. I doubt anyone would hold it against you.
Z,
You are a good person for accepting the blame for somebody else's mistake. Either way your kernels are better than almost all others on the desire ports so I am sticking to them. Happy with the performance and it being stable at 1.152. Made me follow you on twitter.
2 other comments/questions:
1. did u take out the debug script that you had posted about on twitter? I did not see battery loss anyways...
2. I tried your incredible AOSP kernel on ultimate droid 1.0.0 but it turned the touch screen into unresponsive mode. Did dalvik wipe etc. Given that UD is like CM, I would have thought it would need an AOSP kernel but perhaps I was wrong. Could you please take a look at that?
Thanks and keep up the good work.

teaser, need a tester?
Couldn't agree more with previous posts. Surely donate to devs you appreciate, particularly if you get comfortable and use their rom almost exclusively. But never believe you've "hired" them because you haven't. In fact in some cases devs may lose that 'warm and fuzzy' feeling they get from sharing their great work with grateful users if they feel those users are just greedy and needy wanting everything handed to them.
I fix computers for friends/acquantances all the time, and when I know someone a) will appreciate it and b) has put effort in to fix an issue themselves already, I actively bug them to let me help them fix it. Some other people (my sister is one) assume that because their friends/relatives that I should drop everything I'm doing at any given moment, or at the end of a very long day of work and immediately run over to their house (even if it's a laptop) and fix whatever issue they're having at the moment. This usually before they've even attempted fixing it themselves. Those people don't usually get my help even when I do have the time...
Just some food for thought. It wasn't necessarily a bad question (maybe if it was asked next week or 2 weeks from now I might be wondering if they were having issues with sammy's source code or something), I just know that especially with such a small development community, I want the devs to know that we're mostly very grateful for any great work that is shared with us, and also that we the users are here to try and help provide constructive feedback regarding bugs, fixes, features etc anyway we can. Keep the good times rolling devs!

When dk28 was released many new roms popped up..right now most developers of roms already implemented a lot of customizations over time..these customizations need to be tested and etc..
Not to mention since there i source it leaves a lot of room for improvement..EB133 stock is a pretty good rom..and improving upon it takes time...

So stop complaining, they will release eb13 ROMs when they are stable and working properly. Thank you Devs for all of your hard work, you have made owning my epic so awesome.

Yea at least these chicks and dudes are a lot faster than the samsung peeps were at getting us updates. Should be thankful we get new roms as fast as we do!

Master leaving Vibrant community

I read on masters twitter that he was selling his phone. He did say he would continue the axura project. I just want to know if hes still working miui.

I'm sure he will be an asset to whatever dev community he decides to contribute next. He'll also get to do a fresh start without all the drama. Good luck Master, Axura was the first ROM I installed on my Vibrant.
BYE master, dude I loved your roms, I fell in love with Axura back in 2.1 days, you'll be missed, nut not forgotten, I'm sure I'll see you around.. SGS2 ;]
sweet! he better get a Optimus 2X.
maybe donations?
The MIUI has several devs on it.. JF being one of them, there will be updates for that (And I will still try to help with it as much as possible)
@Scrizz, You know what phone I am getting already LOL

I never tried your roms dude, but always read about your great work and you helped the vibrant a lot. It sucks your leaving, it was always nice to see the options.
Whatever you do.peace be with ya man.
Master,
thanks for all you work here. Axura is a great rom, not to mention your other contributions.
Sucks I finally try Axura and love it and you are leaving. Good work and good luck.
Truly sad to know you are leaving.... Axura has been the best ROM for my phone ever. I have tried almost all of them until Axura and never switched from it again.

Damn, I was thinking the same thing. I love Axura so much... sad to see you go.
Good luck with everything you do.
Dear master,
I love your roms, and now your leaving me....
So consider this as my suicide note.
I am currently hanging from a fan with a rope on my neck. All I have left to do is push yhe chair away.
I will wait for your response, and if its the wrong response... You know the rest.
But seriously don't leave.

don't worry the trolls in the truck will hold up the chair.
That's too bad Bye Master.
Hopefully whoever picks up the MIUI project can give us an update soon.
I'm a n00b, but wanted to give Master some love. Axura has been my daily driver since I got the Vibrant and has done nothing but meet or exceed expectations. Good luck.
BTW, with CM7 working its way to the Vibrant he may have picked a good time to bail.
