HD2 Backlight/Screen Problem - HD2 General

Hi all,
I seem to be experiancing intermittent problems with my HTC HD2 backlight/screen. When on external power with setting's "Dim after 1 min" and "turn off device after 2 Mins" the phone sometimes works as it should, other times the backlight only dims and the screen does not shut off. Real nuisence when receiving missed call's at night as the dimmed backlight stays on most of the times.
Its been back to HTC twice for repair and it seems to be coming back with the same problem after using it for a little while. On both occasions they have replaced the motherboard even though the fault sheet on the last repair said Faulty backlight. I phoned them up and the operative said the motherboard was replaced. Unless they got confused with the first repair.
However i have come across this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561832 "Post 10" which has the perfect mod for the registry, this is however aimed towards SE xperia X1 users, but has reference to it also being a HTC problem.
I have tried the following registry edit "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Power\Timeouts\ACUserIdle: 120"
and it works perfectly just as the device should, the screen dims after 1 min and screen goes off after 2mins. Here comes the problem though, the edited registry values seem to return to there default of "0" when the device is reset or after a prolonged period of time. I am using Resco Registry to carry out the editing.
Is there a way i can get the HTC HD2 to remember/save this registry edit so that when the phone is "soft reset" it does not revert the above key back to Default I thought the registry edit is saved untill a "hard rest" is carried out.
Cheers

I would of thought that someone out of the 72 people that have viewed this thread would of been able to help, maybe im wrong. Im sure this is a common problem, unless im the only one with this bizzare problem. I have tried looking at other threads and none seem to bare the same patterns. Please help me out guyz.

Have a look at Mortscript. It's a scripting tool that allows you to create small text files that run simple commands on your device. You could create one to set the registry value as needed and place it in \Windows\Startup so it runs when you start your phone.

Please! Please! Does anyone have a fix for this? I am in the same boat as the OP. The registry trick works but reverts back after reboot. I hate having to leave the backlight on when my HD2 is connected to the PC. Plus if you press the red button it disconnects from the PC. Hookers & Beer for the man who finds a fix!

Errr.... my post was an answer.

Thank you johncmolyneux, i will look into the mortscript program, You reckon it will be hard to write a program for this? i am very suprised that other members on this forum have not come across this problem.

From what I've seen of Mortscript, it should be pretty simple to do what you want. I've seen many examples around the forums and it was obviously built with ease of use in mind. Just do some searching and I know you'll find what you need.
Good luck mate

Loosing SMS messages after soft reboot?

Hi there,
Been floating on these forums for a while, more so lately since I purchased a Softbank X01HT. Its been a great phone, but been having a couple of querks with it, most of which I found solutions on this forum. Thanks for those that compiled the wiki and forum.
I do however have a one querk I can't work out: When I receive a text message, then read the text message, then do a soft reset immediately after reading the message, then upon reboot I loose the text message (i.e. it no longer exists in my inbox). However if I get the text message, then read it, then switch the phone off and turn it back on. Then I proceed to soft reset the phone, the text message remains in the inbox.
Is this normal? I've got a Softbank X01HT with the imate 1.20.305.3 07/21/06 Rom. I remember reading somewhere on this forum that the hermes needs to cache the data by turning the phone off then turning it back on?
Thanks for any help in advance, and Merry Christmas and Happy new year!
Edit: On top of what I've said here, if I make any modifications to the inbox/SMS/areas, then soft reset without turning off and turning the hermes back on, the modifications don't hold. Only when the phone is turned off, then turrned back on, then soft reset, then the changes hold.
I have had this issue with all WM5 devices.. it seems as if there is a some sort of delay in writing or saving the information to your phone... Which this all ties into the delay write of the registry. This problem becomes real annoying if your device locks up and you get a new sms. if you wait a minute or 3 before soft resetting they will stay

Hi there,
I actually tried waiting about 1-3 minutes for the changes to occur and they didn't at all. In fact I tried waiting 38 minutes to be exact, and again no luck. It is only when I suspend the phone that the changes actually stick. I read the above article which stated theres a "FlushPeriod" that can be placed in the registry. So I added the registry key, but no luck. Unsure of exactly what the problem is here? Its almost as though the WinCE DB is a bit broken.
Any advice?
Edit: Okay rather confused. I've been playing further on my hermes to work out what the issue is. Now if I receive a SMS, then soft reset using the stylus and the hole down the bottom (without suspending the machine first), then I loose the SMS. On the other hand if I soft reset using an application like spb pocket plus (without suspending the machine first), then I don't loose the SMS. Possibly that the application forces a WinCE DB write before actually doing the reset?
my apologies for reviving a dead thread. but i found this topic through a search for the same thing.
i was just wondering if there was anyway to recover such data after a soft reset? i have lost multiple MMS's and some important SMS' that i need as well.
thank you in advance.
I'm not an expert, but am pretty sure that once it's gone it's gone I'm afraid.
However, instead of using your stylus to soft-reset, push and hold the power button until it asks if you want to power off, then puch and hold to turn back on. This is the proper way to soft-reset and saves any registry changes, so shoudl help you out.
hmm. yeah i thought that was the case, i just wanted to make sure.
it was a stupid mistake that was associated with a sudden loss of all reception, so i reset it.
i definitely know now for future reference.
thanks

Yet another thought... Have you ever tried taking out the battery, putting it back in, then starting the Universal back up? It takes time. Imagine taking all that time each time you open up the screen...
thanks for your reply. actually i did not mean turn off completly the phone i meant standby i was able to do this by deselecting the turn off the phone in the setting so every time i open the lid it is already on but this is affecting my battery life (i see about a 25% increse battery drain) so the point is to send the uni to stand by every time i close the lid and to bring it back from stand by as soon as i open it. thanks

Please HELP

I have an 8125 Wizard with WM6 RC5.
The phone was working fine until about a week ago.
Now the smart keys do not work but randomly start working after I press the key on the left above the volume control...as if it activates them. The messaging and internet keys never work anymore.
On the keyboard. it works sometimes and sometimes it doesnt. When it does not all the keys work...a few letters do not respond.
When the phone screen is activated by pressing power button when phone is on "hibernating mode" the today screen opens...then after about 1 second the software configered to the Email softkey opens and then closes.
Can anyone help...I have reset the device using clear storage...would I need to Hard reset, will that help. I had battery status installed and it also overclocked to 247....could that be a reason. I have now removed battery status. PLS HELP

Two things:
First, remember this is a bulletin board. Sometimes it takes time for people to get around to reading your post. Sometimes, 50 people will read your post before someone will bother to answer, and even then, the answer may not be a solution to your particular problem.
Second, as you saw on the other threads, I recommend opening and cleaning your button contacts. People are constantly surprised by the need for this, but if you have anything resembling an active life, you probably need to do this about once every six months.

G-sensor failure

Hello everyone:
I've found a failure on my blackstone's g-sensor.
I noticed it wasn't working playing Teeter.
I tried to configure with the tool provided in the ROM but une of the bubles (horizontal) always goes back to the right side.
Tried hard reset, but still got the problem.
Is there something like a driver that I could reinstall, or should I send it directy to HTC??
Thanks in advance
If HARD reset doesn't work, I would suggest sending it back for repair.
- Steve
Yes, HARD reset didn't work.
The SOFT reset was the first thing I tried...
¿Wouldn't be possible to reinstall the software that uses the g-sensor?
The hard reset restores your phone to the state it was out of the factory. No additional software to the preinstalled stuff is required for the G-sensor to work. If immediately after a hard reset the G-sensor still does not work, it's 99% a hardware problem. The reason why hard reset is suggested is to make sure that other software possibly disturbing what does not work (the G-sensor software in this case) are removed, but, again, out of the box the phone already has the software and drivers needed for each part of it to work.
By the way, the calibration error is a clear signal of the problem.
Well my friends...
The g-sensor failure issue has been solved without HTC's help...
Maybe using the Advanced Config tool, I changed the Gsensor value (don't know how to translate it, in spanish "Intervalo de muestreo del acelerómetro").
I set it in 200. Today, as my last attempt to solve it, I changed it again, to 150, and... et voila!!! It works!!!
The strangest thing is that I made several soft reset, even one hard reset (yes, a hard reset, I know how to do a hard reset), but it didn't worked.
It seems that some changes we make with this configuration tools, stay the way we set them, even if we make a hard reset... Is this possible?

Definitely, I've found the 1% that always bothers us in computers...
I still tend to think that your sensor was "stuck" for some reason and after a bit of moving and shaking the device with normal use it got "unstuck". The stock settings are always correct for basic hardware features, and are the same for all users.

Maybe you're right.
In fact, I've changed back the value back to 200 (ms.), and it still works...
But it didn't get unstuck by the normal use... I tried it several times. It happened only when I changed that value.

By doing a hard reset this value should be reset to default, so if you really did a hard reset, it probably wasn't a software issue at all.
I don't have any explanation. Maybe it was just a case that it got unstuck in that moment, maybe not, and changing the setting caused something in a microchip of the G sensor work again... No ideas.

Yes, a hard reset, switching on the PDA while keeping volume down pushed, as the user guide says...

OK, at least, if anyone reports same problem, this could help.
Hi,
I m facing the same problem as you described, my horizontal tube is stuck on the left side.
I tryed to change the polling interval setting without effect.
I discovered a weird (from my point of view) inside the registry. The calibrate2-? is set set at a very hight value (only 1 in binary).
Changing it by a registry editor doesn't work, it goes back to the weird value when i restart the device.
Can you tell me if you had such values when you experienced the problem ?
Thank you
Hi again,
You know what ? i m happy
It was a pure physical problem. I give on my touch hd a little pinch on the left side and it unstuck the problem.
Everyone must know that it can happen. No change inside the registry is needed. You just have to shake a bit your hd to make it work again (if you break it i m not responsible )

I had this problem after I traveled in a bus on a bumpy road with HD in my pocket - No pressure fall or anything. I am surprised to see so many had his problem. Hard Reset was no use. I shook my HD vigorously and this solved it. I was worried if this baby gets a Shaken baby syndrome by the shake
Lol! You remind me of my car stand. Each time I am on my car with the HD on its stand, and I bump into a hole on the road, the screen rotates for a short while (due to the G-sensor). This is annoying, but funny... I think I will add TomTom to the exceptions list.

Had the exact same problem, sensor was stuck on the left. I was about to retire the HD and go back to my rhodium when found this post.
Pinching didn't work but a minute of VIGOROUS shaking did the trick! Still looking for my stylus which flew out ... be careful when trying this at home children
Yay, my HD lives!
Please advice where can i find the advance config tool? i'm facing the same problem

[Q] Replacing Touch Digitizer fix NonResponsive Screen?

Hey everyone my HTC HD2 got the Non-Responsive screen problem a week ago, & did a lot of research and found out that it was most likely a hardware problem with a cable..... So a lot of people would tell the people with the problem that the "Touch Screen Digitizer" is dead (like the cable), or it needs to be cleaned... pretty well go out and buy a new one... BUT I have never found evidence that someone has done this and it has successfully "cured" their HTC HD2 Non-Responsive touch screen problem...
So I was looking for anyone on the forums that could confirm this is a solution or give me any tips on what I should do.... AND no I don't have enough money to get a new phone, nor do I live in the USA so I can't send it in to fix it...
This is what I was going to buy for it:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/NEW-OEM-HTC-H...item519a3d2e45
Thanks for taking the time to read my Thread, its much appreciated!! I hope I can find a fix!!
PS: If anyone wanted to know what it looks like out of curiosity I posted 3 pictures with RED circle HIGHLIGHTING the problem when I try to touch something....
I really want to know this as well, because my phone is basically unusable at this state. I can get into it maybe 2 or 3 times a day, if i really try (locking and waking up the screen over and over until it becomes responsive). I don't want to buy a new digitizer if it isn't going to fix it, but i would gladly buy one if it will fix it. If you try it, and it does work for you, send me an email at [email protected] .
Anyone with any other information on this please help us out, there is a surprisingly small amount of info on this issue, considering how many phones were affected.
screen
I have read some threads on the power button being the cause. Try pressing it several times. Once you get the screen operating go to the market and get screen off app and a reboot app. Place them on your home screen toolbar. I use adw and it has an extra hidden toolbar if you swype down and then up on toolbar and up then down to close it. Either way you do it is fine. This keeps you from pushing the power button which has been discovered to be the problem. Hope this helps. I haven't had the problem, but seeing that it's happening more often I use these apps to keep from using power button unless needed to boot into magdlr.

Thanks for the help, yeah I havee seen that problem and I think that is my problem as well.... I am going to get a T5 Torx Screwdriver am pop open to see if I can maybe fiddle with the cable to get it to work again.... if it doesn't i might get a new digitizer or just have to go back to my old phone and save some money for a new smart phone
I have http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=933951 on my hd2 and theres an option in cynogenMod settings > input > long press home settings that lets you change the action that happens when holding down the home key. Just set that to "screen off."
