Loosing SMS messages after soft reboot? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi there,
Been floating on these forums for a while, more so lately since I purchased a Softbank X01HT. Its been a great phone, but been having a couple of querks with it, most of which I found solutions on this forum. Thanks for those that compiled the wiki and forum.
I do however have a one querk I can't work out: When I receive a text message, then read the text message, then do a soft reset immediately after reading the message, then upon reboot I loose the text message (i.e. it no longer exists in my inbox). However if I get the text message, then read it, then switch the phone off and turn it back on. Then I proceed to soft reset the phone, the text message remains in the inbox.
Is this normal? I've got a Softbank X01HT with the imate 1.20.305.3 07/21/06 Rom. I remember reading somewhere on this forum that the hermes needs to cache the data by turning the phone off then turning it back on?
Thanks for any help in advance, and Merry Christmas and Happy new year!
Edit: On top of what I've said here, if I make any modifications to the inbox/SMS/areas, then soft reset without turning off and turning the hermes back on, the modifications don't hold. Only when the phone is turned off, then turrned back on, then soft reset, then the changes hold.

I have had this issue with all WM5 devices.. it seems as if there is a some sort of delay in writing or saving the information to your phone... Which this all ties into the delay write of the registry. This problem becomes real annoying if your device locks up and you get a new sms. if you wait a minute or 3 before soft resetting they will stay

Hi there,
I actually tried waiting about 1-3 minutes for the changes to occur and they didn't at all. In fact I tried waiting 38 minutes to be exact, and again no luck. It is only when I suspend the phone that the changes actually stick. I read the above article which stated theres a "FlushPeriod" that can be placed in the registry. So I added the registry key, but no luck. Unsure of exactly what the problem is here? Its almost as though the WinCE DB is a bit broken.
Any advice?
Edit: Okay rather confused. I've been playing further on my hermes to work out what the issue is. Now if I receive a SMS, then soft reset using the stylus and the hole down the bottom (without suspending the machine first), then I loose the SMS. On the other hand if I soft reset using an application like spb pocket plus (without suspending the machine first), then I don't loose the SMS. Possibly that the application forces a WinCE DB write before actually doing the reset?

my apologies for reviving a dead thread. but i found this topic through a search for the same thing.
i was just wondering if there was anyway to recover such data after a soft reset? i have lost multiple MMS's and some important SMS' that i need as well.
thank you in advance.

I'm not an expert, but am pretty sure that once it's gone it's gone I'm afraid.
However, instead of using your stylus to soft-reset, push and hold the power button until it asks if you want to power off, then puch and hold to turn back on. This is the proper way to soft-reset and saves any registry changes, so shoudl help you out.

hmm. yeah i thought that was the case, i just wanted to make sure.
it was a stupid mistake that was associated with a sudden loss of all reception, so i reset it.
i definitely know now for future reference.
thanks

Please Help !! "The phone is not ready. Wait 15 seconds

Dear Friends,
I am new to this forum as well as to O2. My MD few days purchased an O2 Xda mini S. Till yesterday it was working perfectly fine.
Today onwards when I try to send SMS (Text Message) the phone displays the following message "The phone is not ready. Wait 15 seconds and try again."
He is unable to send SMS because of this and the ball is in my court now. I need to solve this problem somehow. Please help me
Regards
This is a known bug with the phone, and I don't know any easy way around it. The only solution is to soft-reset, then wait about 5 minutes, and go in and send an SMS. It usually happens when you try to send an SMS shortly after starting the radio (i.e. resetting the phone, or coming out of flight mode).
Help !! How to soft reset

Thank you for the info. I don't know how to soft reset the phone and will I lose contacts, SMS, GPRS settings etc if I go for a soft reset.
As I said in my previous message I am new to Windows OS for mobiles. All my earlier phones were Nokia.
Would be helpfull if somebody tell me how to soft reset the phone and also please let me know wether I will lose all my data if I do a soft reset.
Thanks in advance
soft rest - poke the stylus tip in the hole on the right, next to the IrDA window.
and no, you won't lose all your data. WM5 uses persistent storage, kinda like Flash memory. Even if your battery dies, your data remains.

8525 freezes up during ActiveSync Info screen

I'm not sure exactly why it's happening, the last thing i remember doing before this problem occurred was uninstall some programs, and decrease the text size in settings.
But everytime I power on the handset, it will boot up fine. But then the activesync information screen (the one that shows your recent syncronizations) will pop up, and my phone freezes up right there. It's pretty much unavoidable at this point, everytime I reset my phone its the same problem. I'm able to do a soft reset at this point, but that's pretty much it.
If it's any help, one of the programs I removed was pTravelAlarm (Burr oak software) i got rid of that because i was getting a "Cannot execute \Windows\pTAmgr.exe" Notification Error during startup, which now that I mention it, the error still pops up even after i removed it.
Is there anyway to perform a hard reset without having to be in windows, or connected through activesync?
Or am i pretty much boned at this point.
You don't need or want to be connected to Active sync when doing a hard reset!
Hard reset is pressing both soft keys at the same time as poking the stlus in the soft reset hole. This takes device (after some menu screens) back to the way you got it originally.

ah, ok, i was under the impression that the "Reset" key was actually on the screen. yes im a silly newbie . Thanks!

We're all newbies to start with and we're all still newbies with some aspect or other of Hermes or WM5.
Use this thread if you have problems with hard reset.
Mike
I did a hard reset, and its working just fine. Though i do think i'll be updating the ROM, seeing as i've had many problems with the phone freezing up and recycling itself under the OEM ROM. Thanks again

Big problem!!!

I have a huge problem with my MDA compact III. The problem is, I have to hardreset my device almost everyday. Thats because all of a sudden the device acts strange and won't open almost every program. When I softreset the device then, the device won't pick u a signal. In stead of showing how strong the signal is, it diplays a !. Also after the softreset sms, mms or my mailaccount is deleted. I have never spoken anyone with the same problem or anyone with a solution. I only have Windows Live Messenger installed, but many people have and none of them have my problem so that doesn't seeme to cause this problem. It's really annoying and it's getting worse by the day. Yesterday I had to reset my device 3 times(!).. If anyone knows this problem or more important, knows a sollution, please share it with me cause i'm close to driving my car over my MDA
Tom
Are you doing an actual hard reset where you hold the two soft keys on either side of the chome wheel, then hit the sunken button on the left side with your stylus while holding the two soft keys and then confirming with the green talk key? If so, sounds like a hardware problem.
No not using the softkeys. I always perform a hardreset in settings menu, i don't know how it's called in english but in dutch is called 'opslag wissen'. Sometimes I get an error saying cold boot could not be completed blabla and then i have to confirm to hardreset.
Tom
Sounds like you are using the 'clear storage' option. Try the actual hard reset procedure and see if that fixes things...thats how I do it.
I just performed a hardreset using the the softkeys. I hope this will make a difference and solves my problem. If not, my MDA gets his first swimminglesson and I'll contact my insurancecompany.
I'll let you know it worked out. Thanks for you're help

As far as I know, this 'opslag wissen' is the equivalent of a hard reset. So it should not make any difference, unfortunately.
no it didn't make a difference. had to be hardreset allready. going over to plan b, allready filling the bathtub.
If you do teach it to swim, however, please post pictures.

Some Help... Phone blank screening to a degree

Thanks for reading.
I'm currently using WM6.1 on the phone, and loving everything about it.
Since day 1, I've used a phone lock code, along with PIN1 code.
When unlocking the phone for after say an hours inactivity, the keypad will show, then the screen will go blank only showing the top bar of the phone.
Any press of buttons and screen will just make a beeping sound, and so far nothing I've done will restore the keypad to unlock the phone.
Is there anything wrong with the ROM i have, and is there anyone who can suggest how to correct this?
Please remember, the top bar still shows, and a reset allows the phone to work as normal (once logging back into it of course).
Thank you,
Hi guys,
Sorry to bring this back up, but this problem is still going on.
Not sure how to resolve it, so hoping someone would know how to solve this.
Thanks,
Posted twice for some reason.
Maybe is a sw failure,(50%) try to reflash with this fw: RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_3625023_6275_1540700_108_UOOS_SVN05_Ship.exe
if your hermes its from att/cingular. after flash open and close the tap of hermes, if the blank screen continues or return this, the failure is hw (the flex component broken, bus, pcb) in this case you need to buy the spare part or send to sat.
good luck
other possible solution

Hi there,
Its not white screening, or anything else, I think the next time it does this, I'm going to have to take a picture, to make sure it can be understood clearly.
Basically, when bringing the phone out of standby (from pressing off/on button) and attempting to enter my pin into the phone the phone will allow me usually to press at least one number of my pin, and then it'll black screen, where the start bar still displays, but no response.
The handset isn't problematic when being opened for use, or anything else, its just annoying to have to reset to load the phone back up again.
I hope this helps?
Further to the above, here is what i've been talking about...
Happened last night, typically as I was bored, and had to wait till morning to take the photo...
Still no movement on this post...
Would it be suggestable to upgrade the install of WM?
If it is, how easy (will read guides beforehand) is it to do (reasonably, hard etc).
Just this is now my only phone, so don't fancy my chances bricking it.
Thanks!
Sorry to be posting yet again, but this has now happened 3 times a in row since last night. I wouldn't mind knowing if a rom fix would sort this, and if so whats the best rom to go for...
Just keen to get this sorted now...
Thanks.
If it helps, I've nothing running when this happens. The exception of last night, where I was using Audio Manager when walking home, and had to soft reset once in the door.
Hi
I am almost certain you have a software fault here and need to reload a new ROM - take your pick - my preference is schnaps - it isnt that hard to do and should solve your problem
Just go to the Windows upgrading section on here and follow the process - you will be happy

HD2 Backlight/Screen Problem

Hi all,
I seem to be experiancing intermittent problems with my HTC HD2 backlight/screen. When on external power with setting's "Dim after 1 min" and "turn off device after 2 Mins" the phone sometimes works as it should, other times the backlight only dims and the screen does not shut off. Real nuisence when receiving missed call's at night as the dimmed backlight stays on most of the times.
Its been back to HTC twice for repair and it seems to be coming back with the same problem after using it for a little while. On both occasions they have replaced the motherboard even though the fault sheet on the last repair said Faulty backlight. I phoned them up and the operative said the motherboard was replaced. Unless they got confused with the first repair.
However i have come across this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561832 "Post 10" which has the perfect mod for the registry, this is however aimed towards SE xperia X1 users, but has reference to it also being a HTC problem.
I have tried the following registry edit "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Power\Timeouts\ACUserIdle: 120"
and it works perfectly just as the device should, the screen dims after 1 min and screen goes off after 2mins. Here comes the problem though, the edited registry values seem to return to there default of "0" when the device is reset or after a prolonged period of time. I am using Resco Registry to carry out the editing.
Is there a way i can get the HTC HD2 to remember/save this registry edit so that when the phone is "soft reset" it does not revert the above key back to Default I thought the registry edit is saved untill a "hard rest" is carried out.
Cheers
I would of thought that someone out of the 72 people that have viewed this thread would of been able to help, maybe im wrong. Im sure this is a common problem, unless im the only one with this bizzare problem. I have tried looking at other threads and none seem to bare the same patterns. Please help me out guyz.
Have a look at Mortscript. It's a scripting tool that allows you to create small text files that run simple commands on your device. You could create one to set the registry value as needed and place it in \Windows\Startup so it runs when you start your phone.
Please! Please! Does anyone have a fix for this? I am in the same boat as the OP. The registry trick works but reverts back after reboot. I hate having to leave the backlight on when my HD2 is connected to the PC. Plus if you press the red button it disconnects from the PC. Hookers & Beer for the man who finds a fix!

Thank you johncmolyneux, i will look into the mortscript program, You reckon it will be hard to write a program for this? i am very suprised that other members on this forum have not come across this problem.

From what I've seen of Mortscript, it should be pretty simple to do what you want. I've seen many examples around the forums and it was obviously built with ease of use in mind. Just do some searching and I know you'll find what you need.
Good luck mate
