Hello
I have a problem with my HD. For some reason i don't know i cannot charge it while the phone its still on.The only way i can charge it its when i switch it off.i tried changing the rom to wm 6.5 and 6.1 again but nothing.
if someone knows please help me.
thank you
I have the same problem. very weird.
Have you tried to reset the phone (shut down and power up again) while it's still plugged to the loader?
That helped with my old phone but i'm not sure if it helps in this case.
greetz
playdo
Is that using the charger or from the PC?
If it's the latter, ensure that Settings/System/Power option "When device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to the PC" is deselected.
You are a lifesaver!
This shoould REALLY be a F.A.Q.
I would also like a word with whoever came up with the function. When would you ever want your NOT to charge your mobile?

I suppose if your testing a roms battery strength you may not want this function.
Still no charging
I too am having problem with no charing. I have had this problem twice now.
First time (as phone is not under warranty in Australia) I took it to local repair who said they couldn't fix it... long story short it went back to china, came back fixed... or so I thought.
It did the exact same thing, battery died in few hours, then when on charge it would sometimes show steady orange LED on power button for 5-10 seconds then go off and never charge, or two it would blink orange and green for some time and not charge. Now it wont turn on and is only showing orange light for 5-10 seconds.
Also, I read around and found that there is different miniUSB cables, some don't charge and some do, would like the great knowledge of this forum to fill me in on this rumor.
Really weird
It is really weird. I had the same problem. If I put the phone on charge either with charger or with USB cable on PC the charge light blink on orange and green and the phone not charge the battery. And this happens for 2 days. I went on another computer I plug the phone in the USB and curiously it begin to charge (orange light) and fully charged the battery. It also charge on mains. It is really weird I am still investigating this.....

Hello, I have the same problem, I tried different usb cables and diferente chargers, I olso tried to charge with the PC and nothing. I starts by showing a orange light them goes to a blinking orange and green, and don't charge.
I found this page http://www.htcrepairparts.com but I don't know what is the problem of the phone, só I don't know what part I have to buy.
If is the motherboard I think that is too expensive and is better to buy a new phone.
Please help me.
I bought a charger from a web site for my Htc HD2 and I can olso charge the battery of my Htc Touch HD, now I can sync with pc but it still won't charge.
Mybe it's a problem with the rom.
The OS is 5.2.29022 (29022.5.3.12)
The Manila is 2.5.20212114.0
The rom is 04.jul.2011 wwe
The rom date 11/20/09
The radio is 1.13.25.24
The protocol is 52.62.25.34u
Some times shows an error saying that is missing a file.
If some one have an answare please tell me.
At this moment the only problem is that I have to remove the battery of the phone to charge it up.
The battery and the phone are OK, but won't charge.
then charger problem. You probably cant charge a HD with a HD2 charger...

It's not a charger problem, because on de pc won't charge either.
And yes we can charge the hd with the hd2 charger and the oposit way too.
The only diferent thing is the cable, the charger is the same.
I thing that is a problem of the rom.
The error is showed when I power on the phone, and it's .net compact framework error.
I changed the wm 6.1 to a wm6.5 cookey rom.
The BsB tweeks olso reports an error, missing files.
Should I change the rom?
look, if you cant charge, you rather find a solution quick, or you kill the battery and then need to buy a new one to use the phone. but did you try another cable? keep changing ROMs till one works...

I think you didn't read my posts or you didn't understand it, because I said that I bought a new charger for the HTC HD2, it's a universal charger and I have to take the battery of the phone to charge it.
I maneged to charge the batery of the HTC Touch HD with the same charger, the only problem is that I must take the battery of the phone to charge it.
The problem with the HTC touch HD is that when I put it to charge plugged to the pc or to the electrical supply he won't charge, the led starts orange and then goes to a blinking orange and green, and don't charge.
Now do you think it could be a rom problem?
oh sorry for that, my fault but how do you charge the battery without the phone, do you have a dock or anything? Cause Im not really understanding...

I have a docking station for HTC HD2, now I bought a new charger, this is the web site of the charger http://www.yiboyuan.net/products.aspx
And this are the images of the charger with the two baterrys.
My 2 months old Touch HD doesn't charge the battery anymore.
If i plug the power cord, the notification led turns red for 5-7 sec., then it turns off, and the battery meter shows no charging.
I can sync it with PC but runs again on battery, even the check box (under the power meter) is unchecked.
The only way to charge the battery, is to let the battery drains out (the phone turns itself off) and remove the battery from phone for few minutes.
I have the original ROM 1.57.831.1 (47324) WWE from 04/08/09 and i tried one hard reset ("clear storage" from settings).
Does anyone know how to fix this ?
I'm verry disappointed. Now it does'nt charge even i remove the battery.
I think i'll try the warranty service.
No other suggestions ?
Are you sure it is the problem of the HTC HD? I got hte same problem. But because I charged my second battery which was newly bought from the official website HTC UK. My original battery works well. So I returned my second battery.
Try another battery.

yep, same here...
my girlfriend and me, we own a HD, pretty much the same issue...
My device frist stated "unkown main battery status" and has been only willing to charge the battery while switched off and connected to PC (charger doesn't work).
My grilfriend's one now refuses to start at all.
One thing for sure - its not battery related since my fully recharged battery doesn't make her device starting.
I sometimes pulled out the battery without swichting the device off, or left it running for days before reseting it...i guess that might have triggered the problem...
gotta send it in, hopefully they don't mind my custom rom!

I had this problem to.... Change of USB cable did the trick! So.....it's possible that your USB mini cable is dead. Try another USB if you haven't tried it yet.

I don't think it's the cable because i let the phone charging on my desk and suddenly, after few minutes (sometimes 1 min, sometimes 60 min) it stops charging (without touching/moving the cable),

Well, in your case, for sure its not battery related.
After i left the battery out of the phone for 6 hours, it start charging again for 45 min then, the notification led start blinking red and green. After 2 minutes, the led turns off and i started the phone with 40% battery life.
It's driving me crazy and i don't know what to think!
I start to believe it's a battery problem but i'll ask for service opinion too, since i payed a lot of money for this.
Solved
My handset was repaired in service.
The problem was hardware related, generated by malfunction of switching power alimentation mechanism to motherboard.
As title says, it wont charge. Tried using a PC and the regular charger. The notification LED is just flashing orange, then green and so on.
Bit of a SNES solution, but have you tried blowing in the USB socket, and blowing in the connector? If there is some fluff covering one of the terminals that will stop it charging.
Doesnt help. When I am connecting the charger, the notifiction LED lights up orange. And 10-20 seconds later it starts flashig green, orange, green, orange and so on.
If I start the phone, it says 0% battery, and if I set it to charge, it just shows 99%.

Consider how you have treated the battery when recharging.
It certainly sounds like a dead battery.
Have you allowed it to discharge on a regular basis?

I usually charge it at below 20%, but the in the last week, the battery has been very bad for some reason. So I would always have to charge it at 40-50% if I was going out or something, so it would last.

I have tried two different cables.
I take it that you have tried a wall charger.
Their output its higher than USB, but, if they don't work then you will have to change the battery.
HD2 charging problem
Sounds familiar to me!
I got a second battery (1500mAh), which won't charge when the phone is turned ON. The second I plug it in to a USB port I states 100% charged although the battery is at an arbitratry level. The weird thing is when the phone is turned OFF, the battery will charge normally !
I had the same blinking sequence during a road trip, when the HD2 was charging on the GPS stand, under direct sun.
When refreshed, the HD2 resumed charging.
For me it seems to be the impossibility of recharging - dead battery or hot battery (failsafe).
I had a similar problem..
When I connected the micro usb to the computer or the charger..it showed that my battery is filled..and thats it..so when i took it off my phone was dead..
And little later i found out that the trouble was in this lil metal-kinda things(dont kno how to call it) that connect the battery to the phone..and after i done the "battery off" reset(i was a total noob) several times one of those metal-like things was bent that it didnt touch the battery..then i carefully re-put the battery so its all connected..and it worked!

I can't believe I'm the 18th post and no one has suggested this.
Go to the battery settings...the easiest way is to click on the taskbar and then click on battery. Make sure that the check box is NOT checked next to "When phone is on, do not charge the battery......"
If that doesn't help you it may be useful to someone else. This was also a problem for me when I first got the HD2.

Well...I'm very sorry...you can rest assured that I won't bother you again.
Oh...one other thing...my response was to the OP...not to you.
My TMOUS HD2 won't charge when plugged in to any source. I've tried multiple cables and have tried plugging it into the computer as well as into the wall and with the car charger. Nothing as far as a charge, but the light flashes on the LED and when plugged into the computer, it is recognized and can sync.
Also, the "do not charge the battery when connected to a PC" is NOT selected.
Is there a registry setting or something that may have been changed? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I just pulled out the battery and restarted the phone and it charged, but when I unplug it and then plug it back in, it won't charge again. I tried pulling the battery out again and it didn't work.
I'm truly baffled.
Hope you guys are not using an aftermarket battery. If you are, then most likely that is the culprit.
sounds defective to me, maybe a bad battery, or a dodgy circuit in the charge control circuits.speak to your vendor, try another battery.
(id try hard reset first, though)
Mine did this last night. Wouldn't charge of the wall charger or PC. What I did was take the battery out, hold the power button down for 20 seconds, put battery back in, plugged it onto the wall charger and it started to work again.

for those having this issue you might want to check out the contact points on the phone for the battery.
I had this issue and it would out of no where not charge but it would say the battery is 100% right away and the LED light would blink orange and green. But when you unplugged it it would go right back to the actual charge amount that was on it before.
I noticed when I put in the battery that the middle contact was poking out between the battery and the phone and then i pushed it in and it started charging.

Amazing how so many of us can have the same problem, that's TRUE design fault right there. You described my problem exactly, Battery Displaying as 100% when charging, LED flashed Orange and Green and would discharge instead of charging. It was indeed my middle contact, thanks a ton.
I had the same issue, and SOLUTION here worked, but another issue I have is that phone is taking close to 4 hours to completely charge. Anyone out there had the same issue?

Yeah I am using the same charger, earlier it would charge in 1-1.5 hour now almost 4 hours.
I've bought an aftrrmarket battery and I have problems cahrging it.
It often shows itself as "fully charged", the led blinks from orange to green and it does not charge.
Whe in windows mobile, it shows 100% (not true) , but if i tap the battery icon i see the real percentage.
It does not recharge also when the phone is off.
BUT
I have noticed that when i am into android mode (one of the ported builds) the battery charges ...
SO
I think there is something preventing WM to charge the battery when it is 100%, and this control is missing in android.
now the question:
is it possible to "force" the charging in WM so that it bypasses the "100%" problem (like in android?).
Thank you in advance
I think an orange and green light means theres a problem and it cant charge,
I have an unofficial battery that does that too......
no, as i told you, there is something more.
when i am in wm or the phone is off, cahrging is almost impossible (orange and green led, wm icon showing 100% charge even if the battery is 1%).
BUT
if i switch to boot mode (vol down on startup, hspl screen) or if i am in android, THE BATTERY CHARGES.

So you are trusting android, in beta on these phones, over the default battery charging software?
I hope you don't blow up your battery.
Do you still have the original battery? Does it charge properly in WinMo?
I don't know if this is any help but... I also bought a very *ahem* low priced battery and experienced the same problem you mention. This was before android was stable so I have yet to try that, but I was able to fully charge the battery in winmo by putting the phone next to the air-conditioner. My thought when I read your post is perhaps that winmo is running the phone hotter and inhibiting battery charging. Somehow, I feel as though I'm grasping at straws...
'Force' and 'lithium-ion battery' should probably never be in the same sentence.
The flashing LED is an indication of overheating, thus the system stops charging until the temperature drops.
Try charging it someplace cooler.
If that doesn't work, the a method I read about is to run the phone until it totally flattens the battery, then put it on a full charge for at least 4 hours.

Darn, I knew I forgot something
I have one original battery which the phone came with, and THREE oem chinese batteries which look exactly the same, except for the lower barcode which is tinier than the one on the original battery.
I only charge them outside of the phone, with an ac mains charger, and they go to full 100% since it's what the phone say when I switch them.
Whenever I charge them in the phone (only time it happens is when I'm in my car and use the lighter charger) it's just math, they end up in the green-orange led loop, and they stop charging.
It's well known and it's related to overheating, but at least they do not drop as well, which means I can go on and use them for gps navigation or any other task and the battery will stay at the percentage at which I left it.
I also have the same behaviour of OP, that is, taskbar icon says the battery is 100% and NOT charging, info panel after tapping taskbar reports real percentage, S2U2 reports real percentage in green, which means S2U2 sees it as charging. Anyway, as soon as I go home, I wait for the battery to drain to at least 10%, switch it out and slap it into the mains charger.
My oem batteries last up to 3 days.
I have the official HTC extended battery and with the latest chucky rom i have been using it wont charge in the phone anymore. It always used to with no problems. There is something missing software wise that prevents it from charging.

Is the middle pin of the battery contacts bent or different to the others?
The green/amber flashing means "charging problem" which can be due to overheating, but also can be due to an incompatible battery.
When I got my HD2 with the original O2 ROM, the HTC large capacity battery wasn't compatible, this required a ROM update.
If you're running stock, make sure you've got the latest ROM.

Nope it seems fine. It charges the standard battery ok.
As I said im running Chucky ROM. I had something like 21st July chucky ROM on and it charged. Update to the 11th August ROM and it wont charge. Tried the 5th August the same. Havent had chance to go back to the 21st July one to check.
Incidentally I dont have green amber flashing lights. I have alternate Green and Red flashing.
The battery charges perfectly well in my desk charger and runs the phone fine it just wont charge in the phone.
