Does anyone have a Powermat for the HD2 and use it with Android? I've been thinking about buying one but I want to make sure it will work with Android as I have been using it almost exclusively as my OS.
so i just got my powermat today and its not charging my phone.
called customer support and they said no one has called in about their HD2's not charging.
im running:
build: Mdeejay eVo Sense v. 2.3 rEVOlution
kernel:hastarin R7.7
ROM:GTX ChuckyROM
radio:2.15.50.14
anyone else having a problems charging their rooted HD2 with powermat?

I think I am getting one for Christmas. Will report back once I receive all of my goodies. LOL
Sent from my VEGAn-TAB-v1.0.0b3 using Tapatalk
I bought one a few days ago, works perfect for both WinMo and Android. I toss it on, hear that powermat sound, screen lights up and says charging
I only run Android and rarely even use WinMo.

Hmm. I'm running same winmo Rom and exact same Android build too lol, 2.12 radio though, and my powermat I just got for Christmas won't charge either. I think its winmo build, because mine won't charge in winmo nor android. Let me know if you got yours working, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks, tom
Mine works fine with any android build. Does the light come on when you put it on and does it charge in winmo?

neither android or winmo will give me green light and indicate im charging.
will try and change winmo rom and check back
I wouldn't think the rom would have anything to do with the charging. I assume you have already checked to make sure the plug is supplying power and the power cable is plugged in. Did you set it on correctly? It's not supposed to be centered, the top of the phone should be about flush with the edge.
Yeah, I've made sure everything is plugged in and seated correctly. The dock pad lights up and makes the noise, but phone does not light up and indicate charging. I just find it ironic, that we're both running the same winmo Rom.

I guess we just both have good taste
Ok so I did a little test and just put the cover on the pad, and it lights up and makes the sound. So I guess your problem is the connection between the cover and the phone. Could be defective.
Btw, when you put your cover on, is it a little bit loose and makes squeaky sound when you happen to press on it? Not related to your problem, just that mine does that and it's a little annoying.
Sorry buzz, I was referring to akomplice hd2. I'm running chucky rom, with mdeejay 2.3 rev. Build with 2.12 radio.
Powermat HD2 won't charge
I'm having the same problem with both of my hd2s, each with their own Powermats. The mat lights up but no charge indication on the phone and the battery continues to drain. Runing Core Cell 4.1 and Core Droid V0.8 on both phones.
i just switched Rom's thinking it may have been the chucky rom. to the Energy 21916 titanium, and unable to get it to work. I think i may have a defective piece. This is a bummer. Was looking forward to using it, buts its caused nothing but headaches so far. I get the lights to come up, and the sound of conneciton, but phone does not recognize the charge. I'm going to call or return.
EDIT: just called support, and the lady kept telling me to push "up", I'm pretty technically inclined, the cover can only go on one way, and it fits like a glove. I'm going to keep trying, if not there going to send out a replacement kit
I am having the same problem. I tried it on mine and my brothers hd2 and had no luck. I have chamged wm roms a couple of times with no luck. I pulled a light off the christmas tree and touched it to the contacts of the battery cover while it was on the reciever and it lit up. Then i got a sharpie and got the contacts nice and wet to see if it was making a connection to te board on the phone. Put the cover on and took it offand cold see 2 tiny black dots on contacts on the phone. So power get to the phone, but the phone is not accepting it Hmmmmm now im interested! And out of ideas

i was going to try the same thing. make sure its was making a connection. been really busy around here and havnt been able to change roms or anything. but it doesnt seem to be the problem. im out of ideas also... going to call support back tomorrow and have them send me a replacement.
in 13 min. and 25 sec i am going to boot the new ubuntu build and see if for some weird reason it will charge on it.
Powermats are de facto external hardware. The mat holds a coil, producing a magnetic field, which induces electricity in the receiver coil. The receiver is just hooked up to the battery as any normal charger would be. The HD2 specifically has some accessible contacts within the phone next to the battery. Furthermore there are some minor electronics involved which are responsible for identifying the receiver and regulating the magnetic field.
Unless different ROMs expect different current/voltage patterns when charging is initialized (which I highly doubt) and the mat isn't able to deliver in time, functioning of the mat has nothing to do with any kind of software.
Check whether the receiver pins and the contact area on the phone are clean and make contact. They look gold plated to me but if they're not, there might be a thin corrosive film preventing electrical flow.

I checked mine by micromemeter and the will make good contact. In an earlier post some did the sharper trick and also showed good contact.
Chrisgto, good work.. let's keep this going and keep updated what powemat is going to do. They're sending me out a replacement, so I'm going to just wait and see.
I notice when checking Google that there seems to be a similar problem with Sprint evo units.

That's too much of a challenge to answer - could be any number of things. Without testing it with a multimeter I couldn't say.
What surprises me is that your friend lets you anywhere near his phone - and does he know you use his bits to test out your poor maltreated Hermes
I assume you have looked through the service manual to seek any clues?
Get it at the web link in my signature.

Thanks f0r you reply Mike
Im sure what he doesnt know wont hurt him anyway its only battery and charger.
Had a look thriough the service manual nothing jumps up and pokes me in the eye. I guess its fairly safe to say the main board has had it.
I cant seem to find anywhere to buy a replacment board and more importantly how much they are so i can see if its viable.
any suggestions
Thanks

please help my mate's dead Hermes
hi, this is to anyone who can help mainly prof and mikechannon. basically, i was trying to use my mates BRAND NEW hermes to repair my WLAN (Tmobile Hermes). it was working perfectly well until ran the RUU programme. i selected the 1.04SPL so that i could flash the hermes with the new NBH file i created. it flashed a 100% and it turned off and now its not coming back on. i plugged it into the charger, but no luck.i am afraid if i send it back to HTC, they might want to charge me for it. i love this phone badly, but sadly,i have given my mate mine. i dont mind sending this phone o anyone in the UK who can fix it. I am not a flashing expert, so POF might be the first person to contact even if it's just to see if this is some recognised thing that can happen despite getting to 100%.
Can we assume the phone is completely dead? ie NO LEDs lit at all even when on charger?

reply for hermes (mikechannon)
yes it is totally dead. the LED only comes on RED when i take out the battery and stick in the charger.its not responding to anything. i have tried a HARD reset, no luck even a Soft reset too. i am now trying to use microsoft window CE 5 builder software, but i honestly dont think it will work. i really have to fix this phone. it a brand new phone.i tried ringing HTC europe but they are closed today. how can i check if its still under warranty. also, i bought it off some guy on ebay and just had it delivered this morning and now i have managed to brick it

Well I think you need to get a reply here or speak to one of the ROM gurus to see if this is a kniwn result of a faulty flash (seems odd to be but I'm no expert)
The phone is not completely dead if the RED led lights when the battey is out. It is meant to do this. Normally if the battey is faulty the LED will also go red when the battery is inserted.
Are you saying that when you put the battery in the Red LED goes out and no LEDs then show?
Mike
I had the same problem as well.
Red LED w/o battery, and NOTHING else.
Battery IN + charger : no LED
Anything else : no LED
Phone wouldnt boot
So I bought from eBay a broken 8525 that was reported to power up, but the screen was broken and some buttons were malfunctioning before the screen broke.
Swapped the motherboards and now I got a functional 8525.

I would have been tempted to say to check with another battery in case it was therefore a battery fault. BUT given what alkizmo says above it suggests the issue is as likely to be a blown component on the m/board. The Service Manual Hermes or Wizard ( I forget which) refers to a fuse. However nobody so far has identified a fuse as such. It may be another component (resistor perhaps) that is used to blow if current is exceeded. At present though we do not have sufficient info to either identify this component or bypass it.
Still think it's worth a casual inquiry to the ROM gurus to hear their view on whether this is hard or software related.
Mike
Hermes Dead Battery ??
The Red Light Will Not Work If The Charge Is More Than 50 Per Cent
So Try To Shutdown Your Hermes And Put The Usb Charger Then Reboot Your Hermes
May Be It Will Work

Having experienced blown motherboards on a laptop, a desktop and now a cellphone, I can attest to this : If NOTHING powers on at ALL, it is a hardware fault. Before you speak out for laptop/deskop, don't forget about the BIOS, if the BIOS is fried, the motherboard will still power up (fans spinning, lights turning on).
However, maybe that something in the software CAUSED the hardware issue. However, once the damage is done, no changes to the software (even if you could change the software without turning on the phone) would make a difference.

The red light shows when there is no battery as well and the charger is plugged, if there is no battery and the red light doesnt show, you got a problem.
And, shutting down/rebooting is not an option here. The guy's phone won't even light up. It's fried.
Last suggestion of hope : remove the battery and leave the phone unplugged for a whole day. Then put back the battery and do a hard reset attempt.
If this doesnt work, then I got nothing else, as I said, I resulted in replacing the motherboard.
if you cant get it working i will buy the back speaker off you
ok, i am an optimistic person so i will surely try your approach. one question though, as the phone is brand new, do you reckon if i send it back to HTC europe, can they fix it as it is still under warranty?

Usually, most companies only warranty items from authorized dealers. If the seller was an authorized dealer you are ok. If not, they "might" fix it. Call to make sure before sending it in.
Dead Hermes
My VPA Compact III v1605 seems to have the same type of problem - it only shows red lite when it is plugged in and battery is off, but... but I can also (hardly) recognise 4-colour bootloader-type screen, which blinks once and reappears every time I reset the device.
It doesn't communicate with computer, MTTY says "USB port can not open"...
The difference between usual bootloader screen and this one is that I can't recognise any characters (like IPL/SPL), or maybe because it's hardly seen, I can not see characters?..
Is there any chance to have this device repaired?
Ok, not sure I can help here, but first can we clarify something -
You say the red LED shows with the batter "off". Do you mean with the battery out of the phone?

Seems like there's some part messed up in hardware.
If you dropped it some times, maybe some component got damaged.
Please check the voltages on board firmly after pressing the power on button with battery inserted. Just like mikeshannon suggested
There have to 3.15V, 1.8v, and ~1.2V around the board.
I will take a picture from the mainboard with testpoints if you like.
Anyway you need some electric skills
Otherwise give to a service center or buy a new mainboard.

This is very similar to what happened to my device. After downgrading from olipro's hard-spl something went wrong. After flashing succeeded with 100% the device got restarted and there it was... nothing!!
What i found out in the meantime is that the IPL was not flashed correctly.
While trying to reflash the device with JTAG debugger, i examined that the NAND write protect signal sticks to GND right after reset.
Maybe this also a hardware issue. I'll find out soon
The bricked IPL-bootloader could also be the cause.
At least if the red light turns on, the DC-DC converter on the hermes is doing well. This means the unit is partially working but not booting.
....nearly forgot to say, that there is also a fuse on the hermes mainboard.
should do some pix
Cheers,
scholbert
Everything was absolutely fine earlier this afternoon (then the phone got a bit hot while riding in my car) and now, It is not being recognized by active sync or any power sources. The amber light doesn't light. It has happened before but then "fixed" itself. Anyone have any experience with this? This has happened both with the original ROM and the AP rom I am running, so I don't know that it is a software based problem. Any ideas? (Yes, I have it turned off, I have pulled the battery out as well, the USB feels no different than it did before).
-Will
Are you under warranty? Since this sounds like a recurring hardware issue I'd get it replaced. I've never had this issue, even when I left it on the dash of my car for an hour this summer, directly in the sun (by accident). The screen protector bubbled up and it was almost too hot to hold, but it started right up and hasn't had any problems.
Have you tried a hard reset?
Definitely no warranty (this is one that I did the screen replacement on and worked flawlessly for over a week with no problems. It did this before the screen was broken as well.) I noticed that it does feel a bit loose (the USB) so I am opening it up and going to check the solders. I know I'm crazy for doing this but it's out of warranty and it is already broken, so.... why not? And yes, I've done a hard reset and it still is giving me fits.
-Will
well....
All solder joints seem good, no inordinate resistance, nothing out of the ordinary... the problem is further up the stream I am guessing.... so right now, it looks like I'm down my Advantage. May just end up selling it off for parts and getting a Diamond or some such for a replacement (can't afford another X75xx series phone right now...)... Brand new screen on it, and everything worked fine for a week but I think something in my car fried it... because my S621 died the same way recently... and my Asus PND fried as well....and all of them had one common thread. Being plugged in to my car for recharging purposes most of the time.

Ok, I've done this several times now. I flashed back from Kaos Froyo to Aloysius Snow, and my trackball issue goes away. Albeit my phone is fully charged, and I will get the issue sometimes (not all the time) when I plug my phone in to charge while running snow. It's not a complete cure, but my phone will work fine for several days at a time now (using power manager, and set cpu to save battery).
For the record, here's what I did:
-Charged battery full while on whatever Rom you are using (besides Snow).
-Unplug and turn phone off for about 10 mins.
-Flashed Snow.
This work for anyone else?
what does your trackball do when it's not working correctl? I've been trying to solve this problem (if I cant help with software might as well try with hardware lol).
most of the problems with the trackball are actually physical problems with it, but there is a fix that I posted a video of a while ago.

its related to your USB port on the phone being shifted around while plugged in. If you play with the cable while its plugged in youll notice that it cuts in and out at certain angles. its not dirty, well it might be dirty but thats not what makes it stop working. and its definately not software.
What ^ He said. There are some "fixes" for the trackball like rubbing it on a piece of paper or cleaning it with a cuetip + rubbing alcohol but those are only for trackball issues related to the trackball and not the magnetic sensors. The usb port is right next to the magnetic sensors and of course an electric charge is going to screw with them. It wasn't very smart of them...
I tried this cure out of curiosity, sadly it didn't help.
Most trackball issues are hardware related. I made a other thread about mine the other day. I even pulled my phone apart and cleaned the trackball, rollers and sensors with rubbing alcohol and that didn't help. Only thing that helps is pulling up on the USB adapter when its plugged in. BTW mine doesn't work regardless of if its plugged in or not

Trackball woes...
I think the trackball issue is a little different for everyone. Mine pulls to the left, occasionally the system freezes, and the SMS/MMS acts screwey. For whatever reason, my "trick" works for my phone. If I just go get a power mat and never plug the USB in, my phone should be good.

Can be made for other devices: ipods, iphones, bluetooth headset, etc...

Hey, why do you use this microUSB port?
There's one marvelous thing about our HD2 : the dual-backplate setup
-> Use the golden plated contacts right next to the sim card.
They're used for the "old/weird" special car back-plate in order to make contact via the magnetic holder (aka the "original" car kit)
This way u'll be able to mod a plastic back plate with all the mechanism integrated, you just have to "make" two pins (and understand how the third middle one works) that connects to the HD2 motherboard
Hope that helps But i'm sure our HD2 will be the only one who will survive the wireless charging mod without too much trouble vs unibody etc
Nice
Yeah it looks nice but i don't think anybody is siriously going to use this do you??
Wy doing all this effort for making while you just can plug your charging cable in??

oh I bet he's had a lot of fun doing it That alone is more than enough of a reason
I tried doing something like this a little while back, the connectors next to the sim card can be used for charging which would make the whole thing much nicer and easier, it worked good, but the HD2 metal door blocked the signal so it would not charge, so I used it with a sillicon case on top, it was good but not the best, then I tried to hard wire it inside, opened the HD2, it got few dust specs behind the LCD from opening, I tried blowing them away and the whole screen died, well it was a sad story which eventually ended up on ebay, and I had to get a different one I WILL NOT TRY THIS AGAIN, i hope.
thats good of you to try. hope you find a compatible plastic back for it or some other solution.
ill be looking forward to your progress on this as i have a palm pre and an extra touchstone charger.

Hope that helps But i'm sure our HD2 will be the only one who will survive the wireless charging mod without too much trouble vs unibody etc

The car kit's replacement back is also metal. But I will look into those 3 pins in back. Anyone know what they do exactly?

they activate the navi-panel and charge your phone at the same time. Do they have the navi-panel for the TMOUS version? I'm not really sure, but yea, if you're able to use the 3 pins inside, then it'll free up your micro usb connector.

I actually was fooling around with a microusb charging head and found that if you ground one of the data wires, the navpanel will show up. I was a little confused at first since I've never used it before then figured out it was a hidden feature.
First the problem.
Like many others HTC HD owners and I encountered this problem 2 days ago (i have nolonger waranty). i just was connected to my computer thru USB for couple hours, when i tried to power it on, the phone display dont comed on, but the phone worked fine (i maked couple conversations. After that i started to read about this problem, a lot of problems, but no solutions.
I try everthing - put in refrigerator (it worked until i turn off the display, pulled the battery for the night, and one bucket with operations without effect.
i install mymobiler and i was sure that my HD is working without display, then i disassemble the phone and checked the connectors, but no effect either.
i am radiocommunication and electronic engineer, and i don't give up so easily
i pulled the main board, and blowed the main board with hot air flow solder machine (i blowed exactly all over the shielding, from the bottom side not SIM card side), i wait for cooling then asemble the phone, and voala "Its alive"
NOW I AM IN TESTING PERIOD. I WILL WRITE WHEN I AM SURE THATS WORK FOR ME.
i have no pictures but i will make when i disassemle the phone again, because now is not fully asembled.
cheers!!!!!
p.s. i am sorry for my bad english
p.s. i am so happy trallllalalalalalal
It's not uncommon to see bad phone soldering on HTCs phones. Guess their factory isn't working right. Good job btw.
72 hours later everything looks great, the screen works perfektly, touch too, wireless communication too. i will post after few test again.
p.s. its look like my battery now have better handling....
6 un grande!
Wow!!! It's a good new. I had the same problem and I will try your solution. I hope it works on my phone.
Cheers!

The problem is with signal. It was perfect until one day, the 3G has gone & then start losing the signal some times 3G return poor or strong, I take it to the HTC service center in Saudi Arabiya & the told me you have to change the main board then they do it but the same problem still there.
Now still have the problem even after change the main board, is there anything if have to change it or do it???
Note: it files down from me before this problem happened.

did you try to change the radio???
This could be caused by bad SIM card. Did you try another SIM? In my country it's not unussual for SIM cards to start malfunction out of the blue. Also, check contacts for grease or dust.

Hi, ssory for a stupid question, but what is "solder machine" with hot air flow? Is it idustrial fan? If yes, it can give to great temperature and can damage motherboard.
Was your idea to solder again all solder connections and roads?

the solder machine keep one temps at all around 280 degrees celsioum, i thunk the chips can be demaged with temture about 340 degrees, ofcourse it depends of how long time you will blow over the pcb. i don't resolder all tracks and elements (i have no such technology in my laboratory), i just blowed the shielded part of the mainboard, because i know that i can blow some smd element and they are very tiny.
p.s. i use this JBC AM6850 solder mahine
p.s.2 yes it was my idea - it is better than to do nothing with this PDA and throw it in the cupboard
The solution still work for me...
bueno suerte...
