ROFL. You read other posts before replying too¿

You won't see much improvement from any of the kernels here unless maybe you try a voodoo one. I wouldn't recommend it though because its a pain to go back to stock.
I've tried most of the bin voodoo ones. Stupid fast 1.5 seems to have the best performance but you lose vibration. I'm using Linpack and quadrant to test performance.

The best way to benchmark is how the phone works for you in your everyday usage.....not quadrant or linpack. By that logic oclf turns your phone into a rocket as you can pull 2700 quadrants

DJ05 stock kernel is second only to the Stupidfast 1.5 series kernels. Try one of those.
If not, try 1.3.2 SF

I tried geenik's and had sound issues when playing music. JT's are pretty good. Dirrk's oc voodoo kernel has been amazing so far... my phone absolutely flies now.

If you remove the bloated apps from the stock rom you'll get a fast phone. Stock rom with stupid fast 1.5 is the fastest combination I've seen.

now does stupid fast use voodoo lagfix im a little scared of it cause after my last experience my phone went jet black and there was no fixing it i tried everything i just dont want to end up with a black phone again because of a simple mistake i may have made in loading it...i went from a droid 1 which i was flash happy with this phone just gives me the willys every once in a while and i dont want to jepodize its poor life...should i wipe data cache when i flash a new kernel cause i currently use jts with no lagfix but moving to a new one should i wipe

Theses are non voodoo stupidfast kernels.

stupid fast +1

+1 for stupidfast. Extremely noticeable speed difference.
Take note though that with DI01 you'll lose haptic feedback. And for me, anyway, that meant losing vibration for alarms, phone calls, and notifications - not just when tapping a button.

I also lost ALL vibration on 1.54 using DI01, but that thing was awesome. Even better than voodoo. Everything was super smooth. Unfortunately, my phone is on vibrate more than 80% of the time.

Droid X lag

One of my buddies at work has a rooted Droid X, and I couldn't believe how laggy it is, even compared to the stock JFD Vibrant.
I am not here to pick up the fights with "my phone is better than yours" type of replies, I am just looking for any pointers how to help my buddy because my Vibrant with Nerov3+voodoo (2.2 ROM with /system, /data, /dbdata and /cache converted to EXT4) runs circles around his DX.
I am not sure if it is an app or something that cause this (he does not have much installed), but even looking at the youtube vids of DX his phone feels like it's limping on a half a leg.
So far I know he is running the latest OTA and his phone is rooted, I checked his /system, /data etc are EXT3 - I assume the stock DX has a proper FS unlike my Vibrant when it was stock.
It's probably the blur elements. A custom ROM fixes that quite quickly.

Thank you! I will suggest him to join xda and flash a custom ROM.

Blur shouldn't make it lag that much. Some of his settings might be slowing him down. If he is trying to be real conservative on his battery and set it to "conservative" - it is going to throttle back his CPU usage to try and maintain better battery life.
Need to check a few things like that.
what kind of scores do you get in quadrant on your phone (if you aren't boosting them with the stagefright etc)?

I will see him after the New Year's and will check.
I am not sure what Quadrant scores he is getting, but the phone obviously not performing to its full potential. I get around 1500 Quadrant with EXT4 converted filesystem, it is under a 1000 stock. The boost in score is def the filesystem read/write + a small bump due to JIT on 2.2.
Once rooted try to get setcpu and leave it at 800Mhz permanently. That fixed my issues with lag. Of course a new Rom wouldn't hurt since Stock Verizon/Blur Rom sucks balls.

A few things I do to speed up the x are; turn off push for e-mail, freeze the stock applications I do not use via titanium backup, and use fast reboot when it slows down anyway. I still have some lag issues but these help. I'm ready for the incredible Hd so I can drop the x, this Motorola device just has never met the mark for me plus I miss sense.

[Q](eb01)benchmark has decreased significantly

I was running superclean eb01 v1 voodoo and I had a bench mark of 1450. I upgraded to v2 voodoo and now have a benchmark of 1020. Any reasons why?

Make sure voodoo is enabled. Do so by going into the voodoo section of cwm and making sure lagfix is enabled.
But really...quadrant standards are a useless measure of a phones speed...and theae numbers dont really mean alot.

Agreed, I've gone back and forth with Lagfix quite a bit and my scores have been in the 1400's with it on, and 900's-1000's with it off.
When you turn it on you have to make sure you reboot and get the voice telling you the partition is being converted er what ever.

[Q] Tips on getting a better speed on my Vibrant??

I have a Vibrant rooted running the Team Whiskey Bionix-v1.2.1 ROM. I have a few apps that I use daily, but the only one I know does any major damage to speed is beautiful widgets. I don't use any live backgrounds. I scored a 1536 on a benchmark test from Quadrant Standard.
Do you guys know of ways to better these scores?
Use AutoKiller Memory Optimizer
Unless your phone actually feels sluggish I wouldnt worry about quadrant scores. If it is sluggish try installing Voodoo or one of the Universal Lagfix in the developers section.

I do agree that unless the phone is feeling slow to not worry about it. Quadrant is pretty easy to fudge over 2k even though the phone isn't any faster.
Didn't wana assume lol..
Haha yes I have voodoo, bionix-v1.2.1 comes with it preset. Appreciate the help.

actually, if you going for score some of the older J-rom series with over clock really scored high........ But with the current setup, you typically have 11-15 or so things that are open and TSR, if you remove alot of those to make it a vanilla barebones, then o.c it...... you can improve the score........ BUT speed scores are not worth much other than bragging rights.......... Like everyone else said if your phone is performing well then,..........who cares about the scores
Yea I'm just trying to see if there are things I can do to make it perform even better than it already is

Go look up the Dragon 3.6 Kernel in the Dev section. You can overclock the phone a little or a lot depending how much it can handle. I'm running 1.2ghz at the moment.

Stock 2.2.1 is the fastest/smoothest ROM I've used on this phone ever and it hasn't even been optimized. I also downloaded the Dragon Kernel v3.6 and overclocked it to 1.28Ghz and its very stable. I always use my friends iPhone 4 to compare speeds and with the current setup I have now their isn't any difference in speed.

Categorically Worthless vs. Overstock

Is there a difference between these two kernels? They both have the same features. Opinion?

Roughly the same feature set, but categorically worthless kernel seems a bit more stable for me. Theres a more aggressive ram hack in ovedstock, possibly leading to the higher benchmarks. All I want is stability, stock frequency, and voodoo sound. Both are great kernels though, and come highly recommended. In the end you wont see much difference.

Don't be sorry, be yourself. With that said, they are not the same. I started with CW and ran quadrants of low to mid 1400's. Battery life decent, phone was snappy but not jaw-dropping. I moved to OS, and quadrant scores jumped to mid to high 1600's. Snappy would be a mild understatement for how the phone responded then. Battery life seemed better, but it could also have been a difference in usage. This was all with stock 2.2 ROM, mind you.
Now... I run Trigger with OverStock, quadrants are consistently mid 1800's, battery life is great, and snappy would be an insult because of how fast this thing screams!
Also, I haven't had even a sniff of instability with either kernel.
OS doesn't blow CW away, but it is faster, and compliments Trigger ROM beautifully, so in my over-confident opinion, it is the better of the 2 kernels.

Worth Overclocking the Nexus S?

I've been a Nexus S owner for about a month now and it's the best Android phone I've owned so far. If it had an LED notification light and better build quality it would probably be perfect in my book. Anyways, the phone has been extremely fast for me. This is also the first Android phone I've had no interest in rooting because everything works as I want it to stock.
I'm just wondering, is it worth it to root and overclock this phone? Does overclocking really improve the speed that much? Also does Voodoo really give noticeable improvements to the sound and screen?

yes, yes, and a huge yes to voodoo sound
For me personally, my NS goes up to 1,4Ghz flawlessly and stable and in my (probably subjective) opinion, it did speed up the flicking through my large app drawer list, for example.
Basic things like browsing, texting, opening e-mails etc are pretty much the same, it's barely noticable. Probably because the stock NS is so fast and smooth, the few percents of added speed you gain by overclocking aren't really noticable.
The main thing is the battery life though, it'll drain the battery significantly and so it's up to you whether or not you want to have your phone running a tad faster but not make it through the day, or have it go normal and last the day.
I would always root your phone.
Since you mention the missing backlight notification, if you flash your kernel to say, for example, Netarchy 1.3.12, you can install a small app that's called "BLN". It turns the 4 buttons into a notification light by blinking them on notifications, works perfect.
Also, many people prefer CM7 over the stock Android because of the added functionalities; one more reason to root your phone
I haven't noticed anything about the voodoo sound/display, maybe someone else can pick in here.

Trust me in that you will love your phone more if you do. I don't notice the change in speed but voodoo control is a must. You'll be able to adjust the colours on your screen to make your phone POP!
The badass thing about rooting it is that it fixes the notification light problem. All you have to do is flash a kernel with BLN compatibility (Nearly all of them have it) and download the BLN app from the market.
Every time you get a new notification the bottom four buttons flash on and off
Also like Simms said, you also get Voodoo colors which make the screen colors much much better then stock.
I personally don't overclock because like you said the phone is already so damn fast =)

I do not overclock my CPU. I don't get any noticeable benefit from it (other than increased Quadrant scores). I tend the opposite way.... I'd rather reduce power for longer battery life, so I undervolt.
Voodoo is worth flashing a custom kernel for, in my opinion. Keep in mind you do not have to root to flash a custom kernel. You only have to unlock the bootloader with one simple command.
I know what you mean about not wanting to even root. I only rooted so I could take screenshots with Shoot Me app. But I use the stock Rom and probably always will

well, since the bootloader is unlocked, why doesn't root?! =oP
in my opinion, the bad thing in flashing things is because it is addictive, you can't stop anymore. I lived fine with stock for two months, and now i can't stay a week without flash something.
as a matter of fact, you can have voodoo sound in stock kernel, just use the pay app, and if you own a slcd version (like me), you won't need voodoo colors. So the missing and must have is BLN and that was the first reason i root this thing! =o)
and btw, for me, the device is fast enought and i really like to finish the day with my phone still alive, so i don't oc it! =o)

This is truth. No LED does drain the battery quite a bit if you aren't able to dismiss a notification right away. That really hurt me a few times which is why after a few weeks I switched to BLN and haven't looked back.

For my Phone i've never been able to handle 1.4 ever. I run mine at 1.3 and have no issues. Going to 1.4 makes my phone lock up. Every phone is different it seems.
For the record I'm running CM7 7.0.3 and Netarchy BFS 1.3.4.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
I was running Netarchy 1.3.0.2 BFS a few weeks ago. Without doing anything fancy, I could overclock to 1,4 using setCPU and it ran smoothly. I9023, GRI40 and CM7.
But, that kernel version doesn't support BLN so I had to upgrade and I chose the Netarchy 1.3.0.12 CFS and I have to admit (I just tested), I get lock-ups and reboots using 1,4 now.
Many people say it's device related, but I'm convinced the kernel has a lot to do with it as well. I don't know if BFS is the reason or not, it never ran stable on my device (even on stock speeds) and I'm much more satisfied with CFS's stability, but I think that's personal as well

1.4 my phone just locks up.
1.2 and 1.3 are about the same for me: random reboots several times a day, with minimal if any noticeable improvement in performance in day to day activities.

I recently tried overclocking. I found that my phone can barely handle 1.2Ghz. Forget 1.4Ghz. I tried 1.1Ghz and it seemed stable enough but I didn't see any real world benefit from it. Right now I've settled on netarchy 1.3.4 bfs and cyanogen nightlies running at stock clock 1Ghz. Phone is stable, responsive, battery life seems good and voodoo sound is great.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
Trying overclocking now. Phone seems to handle even 1.4 pretty decently. Not noticing any problems. 3393 on Quadrant, nice and peppy. I don't know if the draw on batter life is really worth it. I'll probably drop back down to 1.2 max 400 min. That seems to be a sweet spot.
Running OpenSoju 0.2.6 with the included netarchy kernel.
