This may be a noob question but I'm in the market to buy a phone for t-mobile, currently looking at buying a used HD2 off CL.... Correct me if i'm wrong but android does not run 100% natively on the hd2 since it needs windows mobile 6.5 to run off of using Haret (does android run off the SD card?? I'm looking to use android as the main OS on the phone. I ready many problems but still not sure if its practical for daily use. I also saw the dual booting of android on the HD2 with windows mobile but it seems to still use Haret. Is it at all possible to remove windows mobile completely and flash it with android?
Let me know what you think,
Thanks!
NAND boot (booting without having winmo) is not yet available, but is expected soon.
So currently you still have to run it from Haret, but lemme tell you running Haret from SD on my HD2 currently is so fast/smooth/stable that I have no problems with it, and it runs better than a stock Vibrant or Evo or any other phone IMO.
Plus if you just get that itch for winmo you can load up your favorite ROM, it's a pretty awesome phone, I say go for it.
Hey thanks for the information. What rom are you using which you have everything working?
My suggestion would be to wait and get the Desire HD. The ROM for it is by far my favorite, but it still doesn't support the HD2 camera, which means I don't have camera capabilities in Android. It's a nuisance. Plus, boot times are RIDICULOUSLY slow. Fast into WinMo, but forever into Android.

I use Android as the main OS. If you load a custom WM ROM you can get ones that have apps already built in for auto-rebooting into Android.
I find my booting from WM to Android to be acceptable, but then I did come from an HTC Hero.
I am currently using:
[Everyday Builds][latest linux_on_wince_htc][PPP] CM6.1+ 11152010 v4 and the only problem I have is that mobile data will sometimes freeze, but if I go into airplane mode and then back out it is fine again. I am sure it will be worked out in time. I am actually shocked with how much Android development and research is going into Android on the HD2.
Welcome aboard.

Hi All,
I found some strange difference when i flash a different WinMo and then the functionality of Android. For me all the strange problems of people with Android can maybe licked to the version of WinMO they use.
Here my configuration of my Kaiser Phone:
R: 1.71.09.01
G: 25.75.40.02
D: 3.34.00.00 eMo
WinMo Solace 3.1
Android ION Donut 1.6 with latest Basefiles
Everything work perfect exept the known GPS/BT problem.
WiFi, Data, Phone, SMS, mms, Email, Sync etc is working.
Have try my SD Card with a friends Kaiser, he is useing a dutch WinMo and get lot of errors...
Cheers
A) This could very well happen if some hardware is initialized to a state where the Linux kernel then gets confused. I really, really doubt it though simply because different device drivers in the Dutch build would be pointless.
so I'm guessing it's
B) Try moving / removing your data.img and letting your friend's phone make a new one.
I have hd2 with 2.10 radio and i tried almost every android rom in xda-dev forum but i just cant get this thing working. every rom except froyostone returned with error, but froyostone reboots the phone. anyone having this problem?
none of the developers sad it will work ....go to q&a area i am sure you will find a answer there
Closest you'll get is USB tethering for the moment using a couple of apps in the market place.
Search 'thethering' and you'll get all the information you need.
Everyone seems to have forgotten the beauty of our special super-phone: we have 2 different os's!
Close down Android, boot up trusty ol' WinMo 6.5.x , fire up that perfectly fine WiFi router, wax nostalgic for a while, and when you have satisfied your need for a hot spot... wait for it... run clrcad and HaRET.
Bam! Best of both worlds until we have an Android fix. Just my .02.

yeah i agree, use WinMo for Wifi hotspots!
Just for everyones info, there is a nice Android subforum inthe HD2 section.
I have been using this Android build (1.5b, too many issues with 1.6b):

Here is a link to the "Android development site" (HD2):

And here is a link to the "Android development general question" site (HD2):

Hope this all helps a bit, or make it easier to find.
Thank you!

Good morning guys, I'm a newbie with using Android Roms, but I've been really impressed with running Android the setup in my signature. That being said, in my area, when my T-Mobile data connection is disabled, the device freezes and the battery must be pulled. If I disable cell data, and only use wireless, then the phone works really well. The really nice thing about using the Android Roms so far is that they are stored on a storage card, so you can easily get back to Windows mobile if you want to. Good luck!

Ok, so they do work with tmobile then? Is that what you're trying to say?
Ok, I wasn't clear with my previous post. If I have T-Mobile data enabled and wireless enabled as well, when I lose my work or home wireless connection, and the phone tries to reconnect to t-mobile data, the phone freezes hard. So, I have t-mobile data disabled, and I've been using wireless exclusively. I hope to work through resolving the issue in the coming week.

I'm running the lastest Nexus one android using Cookies Energy Rom for the windows side. also updated the radio to the 2.12 all is good so far no robot voice no freezes. the best one yet
All the android roms are safe to use as far as I know, they all reside on the sd card and are not flashed to the phone. f there is a problem with one (lock ups etc) the battery then can be removed, reinserted, and the phone repoted into windws. Radio 2.12.50.02_2 is recomended, which can be downloaded in the radio section (first post). (T-Mobie USA HD2 ROM Development).
I been using one for 4 days now and like it!! info in sig
hellllppppppp
I have the core cell rom on my hd2 and installed the desire version of android, everything seems to work fine but i cannot hear any phone calls and callers cannot hear me, any fix for this?
Hi , can you please point me to the radio and nexsus one build links. I'm a newbie so I can't figure out which rom to use,.
I feel a little better after seeing that nexsus one build is running without any problem.

I am not an android expert, but from what i undrstand the correct radio to se for android is 2.12.50.... Look uder the radio thread to download it.
My favorite android builds so far are here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=736545
I like htc sense.
There also seems to be an issue with the newest roms (build 3.14) and the issue that the voice in the calls sound robotic.
I am sure it all will get resolved soon.
I have 3.14 radio installed and have no issues with robotic voice as long as I run clrcad or whatever it is just waiting on nand. There are great Rome out there just have to test the waters for yourself. All suk battery life compared to WM

Hello everyone, I hope I'm posting this in the right location so here goes. I came across a VERY good android Rom. Just follow the instructions from the site and you'll be one happy camper.

Enjoy.. this one FINALLY works
whats up guys, so ive read a few sites that explain how to install android onto the hd2. i flashed one with no problems and it works flawlessly then i tried doing my cousins phone and his is messing up, contacts wont save and its locking up every once in a while.
So here is my question alot of the threads i was reading had conflicting information. So they are both flashed with hardspl already what is the lightest and most stable winmo to lay android over top of. Also what do you guys suggest for the best android rom to run over winmo and would a bootloader make the phone more stable. So i know what to do but i want to know from you experienced vets as to what is the most stable winmo that will run android great and what android rom to run for minimal problems. Ive read hundreds of pages on roms and such but everything is always outdated by time i get to it..
So what is working great for you guys. Sense is preferred on android and winmo will pretty much never be ran so no sense would be lighter im sure. Thanks for all the help in advance.
Also one more thing, as both phones are currently running android when they both try to connect to the same wifi router niether one will recieve data until one of the hd2 disconnects from the router. Also confused with that as my evo never loses internet when connected to the same router. For your info the router is a 2wire att dsl gateway. im thinking it could be a problem with the router but that shouldnt be a problem, so maybe the android rom i am using is not using its real mac to identify itself with the router and is causing problems. The wifi is encrypted with wep encryption.
a) You did NOT flash Android, you simply booted into android via your SD card.
b) Android does NOT run on top of windows, When you run haret it kicks windows mobile from ram and boots into Android kernel. Windows is not running at all.
c) Do not ask "what is best" questions they are silly and annoy everybody.
Stop been lazy and read, do some research and learn something, If you dont you end up with problems like your cousins phone.

A is correct, at least until NAND is done and stable.
Just to expand on B, the only thing I get out of different WinMo ROM's is speed of boot. Disable Sense if your WinMo ROM has it so when it boots to WinMo and kicks off haret, it kicks up faster.
C, yeah, I have to agree, you ask 1000 people about 100 ROMs and and somehow, you will end up with 1000 different answers.
Another thing to try is to backup your SD Card and format the SD Card (yeah, I know Dev's say it's not needed anymore, but why not?). Make sure it's a Class 6 or higher (DEFINITELY NOT a Class 2 and some reports show Class 4 work, but I try and stick with Class 6).

When running Android, the reported MAC address of your wifi card is not the actual MAC address, but one that can be changed.
Because of this, lots of builds have the same MAC address, and therefore you'll have this problem when connecting to the same wireless router. (If you're both running the same build then you'll definitely have this problem.)
Do a search - you can set the MAC address in the startup.txt file, but I can't remember what the actual text should read. It's been discussed in the forums before now, so it's there somewhere.
Or instead of being a jerk you can offer help and support or skip the thread entirely lol. Saves us all time.
Anyway, there are alot of ROMS out that cater to specific tastes. Me, I love Sense so that's my preference. Right now though I'm running a stock ROM from tytung that is running smooth as butter. No lags and data drops are almost non existent. But I know ill be running a new Rom within a few hours.
I'd suggest testing the builds on a week trial run or shorter. Try one out for a few days to get a feel for it and see if it has issues you don't want to deal with.
As far as WinMo, that doesn't really matter. I have a GTX full ROM running, I just don't use it except when restarting lol.

Hello, i used to own a htc hd2 untl it was stollen, and now i miss it so damn much i'm gonna get another. I was unaware of it's incredible capabilitys though until recently. When i get my new one it will be the T9193 build. Living in Australia, i need this to access the next g network to get the reception where i work. I have two questions,
if i boot Android or Windows phone 7 on it, will it just receive ordinary reception or will their be no change to reception?
Also how well do android and wp7 run? are they run as well as they do on their native devices. (i have seen clips on youtube, but they all just show how great they are, and don't actually discuss negatives)
I have used both Android and WP7 on my HD2, and I still prefer Android. Just basicly you can do more with it and there is more apps and games for it.
My only problem I encountered so far is with WP7 that you need an activation key for it by microsoft(25 digit code, there are sticky's on the forum how to get these) and that the marketplace isn't open for my country.
On android I never really had a problem, worked great and easy.
I'm still running on WP7 as I want to try more stuff on it(unlocking and all, didn't get to that yet).
About the reception, I dont know. I always just boot it up and connect to the 3g when it is available.
