I'd like to have someone develop an app that helps people shop. Here is my idea.
You go shopping. Pick up an item (Example: box of cereal). Use the phone to scan the UPC bar. The APP then searches the web or specific manuf. to see if there is a coupon for the product. If there is it shows you the actual coupon.
If you decide to buy it then you place the item in your physical shopping cart and use a check mark on your app to let the program know that you will buy it. Then you move on to more shopping.
When you are ready to check out, the cashier scans the product and the user selects the product on the cell. You hand the cell to the cashier and they scan the phone screen.
The program can keep track of commonly used products or even have a wish list so that when there is a sale or coupon ready for that specifit item then the consumer can buy it.
What do you all think? Can this be done?
Please contact me if you have any questions.
thanks
Google shopper does most of this

Does anyone know if there is a program for the tp2 that will allow you to create digital version of membership cards with bar codes the stores offer. My buddy has one for his i-phone but I am not having any luck finding one for winmo6.
If someone wants to know of what I am talking about there is a website mycardstar.com. any help greatly appreciated.
Those cards are retarded. I prefer not to reward stupid retailers for bad behavior.

Every time a cashier asks me if I have a "reward" card or whatever they happen to call them, I want to reach over the counter and throttle them. I clutter my wallet with these cards and sift through/drag out the correct one on demand, and my "reward" is lots of junk mail delivered directly to my house.
Yay. Let's do this some more!

here's the app you're looking for: http://www.koushikdutta.com/search/label/Bar Code
however you should know (as your iPhone friend probably knows but may not admit) that the reflective nature of the screens on our phones make these difficult to work. If you have a screen protector that may work. I've tried it on my Fuze without a screen protector and it's simply too reflective. Good luck!

Don't get mad at the cashier for doing their job. Most places that have those reward cards REQUIRE the cashier to ask for the stupid cards, and most those cashiers DON'T want to ask but they'll get in trouble if they don't.
But really, if all it takes is a few cards to make you want to choke someone, perhaps you have some deeper issues that need sorting.

And besides that your an idiot if you would rather pay a higher price than play the game of the rewards card. Who goes to the grocery store and pays full price for something when just for having a card they give you a discount?
My grocery cards arent even tied to my name and address.
On that note, I am going to check out the link seems pretty handy if you ask me......
great program too
This is going to come in handy!!
thank you for the link to the program and so far so good. I have entered about 7 of my rewards cards and the bar code is dead on. Next will be to use it later today and I will post how well the scanner reads it.
any luck with the scanner? I never got it to work even though the appearance was right (because of glare).

thats why you fill out the paperwork with your phone number. instead of having to carry around the card(s), your reward card number is the phone number you used when filling out the paperwork. should be pretty easy to memorize your phone number.

you took the word right out of my mouth =)
yes i do agree that all the cards take up lots of room in the wallet and being as minimal as i am i mean i dont even carry coins at all.
its funny that the larger corporations dont practice this i mean if our local super markets here in hawaii not to mention the pet shop here are smart enough to tie your reward card to your telephone number i mean come on it cant be that hard!
this program is a good idea but the only thing i have noticed it that a lot of these rewards cards are switching to the mag strips =(
we all just need to get on the europe/asia train where cell phones can pay for things like bus fair, convenience store runs and even vending machines
anywho thanks for the link gonna load this up and give it a try =)
Title says it all, I have to leave for school on Monday and I haven't preordered one. Since I'm not authorized user I don't think i can purchase one with out that user present.
So if anyone found a store that will sell it early to them, and lives on li or near, that would be great.
Just ask the account owner to add you as an authorized user (can do this online) so that you can buy the phone on Tuesday. Then after you pick it up, they can remove you.

Thanks for the reply. That is one option I'm looking into, but the user might be a little reluctant to put me on.
Ahh yes the reluctant user. He must think you're the president of the itty bitty titty committe

So, I just got a nice email from HTC telling me that "because I'm an early HTC enthusiast" I get a free HTC case and free shipping when preordering and entering the code provided in the email. Problem is, I already preordered the phone along with the flip case. Has anyone else gotten this email? Also, what would be the chances that HTC refunds me the case and shipping costs if I call them? I already called them once as my order required me to do so.
Thanks
You should always try. And if they adamantly won't let you, I suppose someone lurking the forums might love you forever for 'giving' them a free case and free shipping.
Call and say you forgot about the code and please apply it now.

who\what number to call ?
I got the same offer emailed to me 1 minute after I pre-ordered. Let me know what you find out. I'm wondering if I need to call them to get my free shipping and case or if they'll just figure it out, because the offer email was clearly generated by the pre-order.
The code works with orders from HTC which letstalk is handling. So if you pre-ordered from your carrier than no go for the promo.

I just called the number that was on the confirmation email. After a 10 minute hold I was told that they have had a lot of calls for this issue and are trying to figure out how to get the case in without cancelling as the hold for the full amount is already on the card. They are manually noting down orders and once Corporate tells them how to add to order they will modify and you will get an email confirming the change in order.

Well, after being on hold for 25 minutes, I was told I need to cancel my order and place a new one using the coupon code. I decided not to as I don't want to risk losing my preorder that has already gone through.

Yeah, same. I probably wouldn't use the case anyways. I like my phones naked. I might call them after I've received the phone if the case doesn't show up with it.
I emailed HTC about the fact that I had already placed my order before HTC sent out the promotion for the free case and got a response that basically said HTC Doesn't make the cases and I should contact my carrier... *sigh*
Dear
Thanks for contacting HTC Technical Support Center!
I am glad to know you are closer to get your HTC One! Getting the case would be a great way of taking care of your device. I will be more than happy to help you with this matter.
HTC does not manufacture or sell any aftermarket components, accessories, or batteries for our devices. They are manufactured and distributed by third party companies for use with HTC devices. They are sold either by the carrier that has the specific device or from a third party official reseller of HTC branded products and accessories.
My advise right now is to contact your carrier about this great promotion, they will let you know if it is possible (or not) to apply the coupon to the pre-order you made earlier today.
I look forward to providing you with any additional assistance if required.
Thanks for your continuous support of our products and services, Chris. Should you require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us through http://www.htc.com/us/support/email-support or call us at +1-866-449-8358 from 8 am to 1am, 7 days a week.
Thank you for being a member of our HTC community and I wish you a good day!

I have an extra code from HTC if someone needs it... PM me, first come, first served!
Edit: GONE
If anyone else has an extra free case coupon code they don't need I would love to have it
Thanks!
I open my email and it says "All promo codes have been claimed." HTC fails again.
If anybody wants a coupon code to pre-order via shopamerica.htc.com and will use it, please send me a PM. I won't be buying from the HTC store, so I have no need for mine.
EDIT: Taken!
Called back to apply the code. Rep said they couldn't but offered to waive the overnight shipping charge. Works for me. Have a code unused if someone wants it, PM me.

Had to cancel and re order to get the case so ended up changing from 64 to 32 GB.
Also, after placing your order make sure you click on check the order status link as soon as the confirmation email comes in. Mine showed that I had to call in for the order to proceed and this only showed after clicking on the link. Email did not mention nor a follow up email was sent to indicate customer contact is needed to proceed.
Anyone called in to get the standard shipping fee waved? My checkout won't wave the feed but gave me the free case.

I did. I had selected 2 day shipping because my code didn't supply free shipping. After 45 minutes on hold I confirmed my order and mentioned that the code didn't work for shipping. Ended up getting overnight shipping for free.

My shopping cart page shows charges for the case and the shipping? Is that how it looked to you and then when you actually checked-out the case turned out to be free, or should I already be seeing the charges removed at this point?
EDIT: So it seems I am guilty of not searching and I clearly need more coffee this morning. This was already posted well before I found out about it. Feel free to disregard.
So, don't hold me to this, I don't know what the restrictions are. But it looks like if you fill in your name and details (including your serial number), HTC will send you a $25 Play Store code. It claims that it's only valid if you purchased or activated between June 14th and July 15th, but who knows?
I just did mine, it says 2-4 weeks to validate serial. I figure why not, what do I have to lose.
Link is here, be sure to click "Already bought? Redeem now." Near the bottom.

Doh.
Egg on face.
Hi Guys,
I have created a new app, Re:Adore, currently it has a limited release in the UK - still sorting out localization for other countries.
The app is for users to find local items of clothes (potentially anything) that people want to sell on or give away for free.
The app has GPS to sort local items, in-app payments using Stripe and from my research cheaper to use than similar methods like eBay etc.
Any suggestions on improvement (bearing in mind it's an early release), getting reviews or cheap marketing - as I am a student my budget it limited? Already doing twitter and facebook promotion, but difficult to get traction and emailed some review sites, but most are now looking for money to definitely do it.
Website: re-adore.com
App: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Cillian.readore_
and APK attached.
Thanks,
Cillian
