App Launcher Not Adding Apps

Ok, i have an elf. of the phone variety.
No funny hats or curly shoes with bells on.
On the third panel of the HTC today screen,
the app launcher, it will no longer add anything.
I can click on the plus icon, and it will show me
a selecion of programs to add, but after clicking
"select" or "ok" it still wont show the item in
the launcher.
Anyone else had this problem?
More importantly, has anyone got a solution?
(and i have searched the forum. found nothing)

Hmmmm....never heard of that one. Did you make any changes to the phone recently? Install something, flash a new ROM? Have you tried soft resetting the phone? Also try to disable the HTC home plug in and then try to re-enable.

well, i did capture one a couple of years ago, but some rights organisation said it was politically incorrect for me to keep it, so i had to let it go.
anyway.
ive not changed the rom in any way. ive only just got it a couple of days ago.
but ill now try disabling it and enabling it again. see if it helps.

ok, nope, turning the htc home off and on again didnt work
and i didnt really keep anything and pretend it was an elf.
my previous comment didnt come out sounding sarcastic enough.
any other ideas?

If you havn't got HTC Home Customizer = get this and install on your device.
Not only can you customize the HTC Home plugin to make it prettier you can also add your app shortcuts through HHC and see if they will add that way.

well, thats a prety fantastic program. Ive finally been able to get rid of that weather tab that i never use.
Sadly, whenever I try to add anything to the app launcher through the htc home customizer, it throws an error and closes.

Just played with it some more and got it working ok.
i was making a silly mistake with the HHC.

sounds like something got really messed up on your device, probably a registtry change or another app is causing conflict.
Did you get this device brand new?
Have you installed anything recently? If so Try uninstalling it and see if it is working properly now?
Have you been playing around with changing registry settings? If so, try changing things back to the way they were originally.
Maybe if you got the device used, someone else had made these changes.
A hard reset will reset the device back to factory settings and may solve your problem. Unfortunately, you will loose everything you have put on your device, apps, contacts, any customization. You may want to look into backing up some of your data before performing the hard reset. Once hard reset is completed, you can add your custom apps again and start customizing again. No big deal really if you have not done much with your device yet. I have had to do it twice on my device - Just time consuming since I had a lot of customizing already done and had to redo it. Now I know to back up my data before doing a hard reset.

Lost multitasking?

So recently I've lost the ability to multitask, specifically in the way I could jump around from open app to open app and have them still be open as opposed to "restoring" their last state.
It's really annoying and feels alot like an iPhone. If I'm surfing a website or two and go to the text messaging program it's a black screen as if the program had just opened for the first time.
Then if I go back to my browser, all my tabs will "restore" back which is essentially like reloading them all from scratch whereas before I could jump back forth to between the programs and pick right back from where I was without waiting for some "restoring" nonsense.
Does anyone know how to fix this? I've tried different settings in autokiller but that didnt help either

So are you using a task killer? Try uninstalling it, soft reset, and try it.

I was going to say try a more lenient AutoKiller setting but if that's not cutting it, I don't know what would

I guess I could uninstall autokiller but I never used it until this problem started happening so idk what good it'd do. But I suppose it is worth a try!

Flashing worked, well I changed roms anyway but I'm sure reflashing would have worked too!
Now I get to enjoy Froyo

[Q] Picture Mail

I have a problem. Whenever someone sends me a picture mail i receive the message but the picture does not come up. the only thing there is a button that says download and you click on it and it says downloading but nothing happens. Any thoughts on what i should do?

So I'm guessin your running one of the Cyanogen or AOSP roms. I've found these just don't do picturemail all that well. I can get static pics but no animated gifs on these roms. I've never had a problem on any of the Sense roms (Not sure about Sense hd).
If your having issues on a stock Sense build, this may be a phone problem.

yeah its cyanogen. i dont even see the static picture. do u know a good sense rom to get? i would love to try one that is good.

fresh evo 3.5 is pretty good. i just switched from that to cm because i want to used a bt keyboard and wii remote on my phone.
fresh is pretty quick.

I get the same problem with Myn's Warm. I think it may be a phone issue.

basically the only fix i have found for now is when you get the download button, open a task killer and kill the "messages" and "message uploader" processes then go back into the message and hit download and it will come up. From what I can tell it is for sure a sprint issue. I have had the problem before i even rooted and its continued no matter which rom i use or which wimax/radios either.

OP, are you running handcent? i have the same "problem" but i thought it was just a setting in handcent.

I have the same issue, of course my cell phone provider told me to do a hard reset, I can send picture messages, but can't recieve them.

I get this sometimes too. Usually dropping to 3g will fix it. If that doesn't work, a reboot will do. It tends to happen when I've gone a long time without rebooting.

LauncherPro always hanged in 2.2

I tried different leak rom before,
and right now I am using official froyo
Every time after starting up the system, or after mounting the SD card,
when the media scanning is finished, launcherpro is not responding and hanging.
Anyone got the same thing?
I dont want to send email to the author if this is an only issue of me

I think another update is coming soon for lp. I sometimes get a lockup and fc in 2.1 with lp

Same thing happens to me. I am running official Rogers Froto on my AT&T Captivate. I tried looking in the logs for something, but I couldn't find anything. Send a emails to the developer.

Yea I've tried like 20 roms.always locks up and force closes after reboot. Sometime it sits for like 5 mins before the fc message pops up. I have the plus version and running Axura 2.2.7.1 Voodoo.contacted tech support about it and he said that its my rom.can't be. tried 20 different Roms.pisses me off.

I have had this happen a couple of times as well. However, I have noticed that it only happens when I try to start opening things or moving between home screens before the media scanning has finished. If I let it do its thing, then it doesn't seem to hang ever. Still kind of annoying, and I don't know if that is the case with you all as well, but that seems to be what causes it on mine.

Nope because I always wait till the media scanner is done.but it still locks up and a fc message pops up.even let it sit for like 20 mins before but was still stuck until it errored out and fc again.they need to fix the dam bug.I even got the plus version.

LP runs fine for me, but I'm having a problem having it stick as the default launcher. Whenever I use Titanium Backup or long-press the home button, I'll get the prompt asking me which home application. There are a couple of other apps that result in the same problem, but I can't think of them off the top of my head. I've tried using Home Switcher to see if that fixes it, but no luck. I have the same problem with ADW EX.

This is happening to me as well.

If it locks up, try repeatedly hitting home, usually will give me a prompt to wait or fc. I never get this issue on my galaxy tab and it's running 2.2

Looks like there is enough evidence to show them launcher pro has some kind of problem in vibrant 2.2

This happens to me as well. Hold the hime button then go to task manager and kill lp.

When lp acts funny for me I hit the power button then unlock it and that usually works for me.

LauncherPro has worked great on my device with 2.2 (Nero V5) the only time I seem to notice anything is when the media scan is finishing its thing and there are to many apps running at start up in the background. I use advance task killer to kill the apps that do not need to be running and I never seem to have the problem again until I reboot. It doesn't seem to me to be a LauncherPro issue, media scan seems to bring the device to its knees until it is finished. Once my device is running smooth I never seem to have that issue again only after I reboot my device.
Love my Vibrant and LauncherPro Plus is far better then all the other Launchers I have tried (in my humble opinion) but each of us have different needs I guess. I actually use almost everyone of the widgets and can not wait for the update coming when the gmail widget will be added to the Launcher.

Yes this is what i do everytime after starting up...
But still so annoying and the should fix it.

So just to update on the topic I downloaded Launcher Pro again today and everything works well. No hanging after reboot and no other problem from what I've seen. You guys may want to give it a try.

I was using Nero5 and got the same problem FC alot in LauncherPro. I couldn't save the LP settings though. What seemed to fix it is removing LP and reinstall it. After that, things seem to work better and less FC with LP.
I'm using stock Froyo now with fresh LP install from the market, no FC so far. So I would say it's not LP always hanged in 2.2...but something is stuck or got carried over from previous installation/ROM. Just try remove it and reinstall LP again from Market, it should work better - at least for me, it did.

Same thing happens to mu phone on adw ex... when i turn my phone off and turn it back on, the screen goea blank, i can only see the notification bar scanning, but would hang on black screen then shuts off by itself.. that's with stock ka7.. now im on ka6 kies version and my phone is fine...
or maybe the cause was the lock screen? I used the pin code lock screen.. it could be it? Now im on ka6 official and with pattern lock screen, it seems fine... and i domt wanna try and use any other lock screen besides the pattern one. Ive done countless reflash because o this issue.. so no more flashing, lol.. but i could be wrong though, it could be something else that's causinrit, just speculating..

The only time I've experienced a FC of any kind on LPP, is when I had Colorize running with it. They don't play nice together. Other than that, it's been 100% stable for me with any rom.

velocity on flipside?

ive had a odd phone crash i cannot recover the phone from its esentialy a brick now. it turns on and functions sort of but the home page is missing just a blank black screen is there and only the notifacations bar and lock screen works. has anyone ever tryed to flash a velocity rom onto a flipside? if so does everytihng work right afterwards?

Don't know what a velocity rom is, but sounds like you either uninstalled your launcher or it is corrupt. Are you rooted? That's the only way I know that you could have uninstalled it. Here's what you can do to recover regardless. Go to play market from your computer, sign in with your assosiated account to the device and find a home launcher you like. I've used launcher pro and go launcher ex on the flipside. Send your choice to your phone. Then when you unlock the phone, press the home key and you should be given the choice to use the new launcher. Should fix, but you'll have to do some customizing.

it was rooted however i dont think it is now because i tryed to do the master reset when it first happened. will this still work without being rooted?

Should still work. Doesn't hurt to try.
You can use this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582 to root again. Just did it on mine and worked perfect. Credit to DooMLord.

well unfortunetly i cannot remember the account i made with the phone so i dont tihnk the file is getting to the phone. is there another way to get the launcher into the phone?

Not without being able to access the home screen. If you can't remember the google account associated with the phone, sounds like only option is to reflash with the stock sbf. You will lose all data on the phone but not the sd card. The files needed are in the development section.

i did it. i did another master reset resetup the emails form the beginning still had issues messed with the phone got the voice commands to open and told it to open the market by voice command and downloaded it from the phone. its working again now.

Awesome. Glad it worked out. Forgot about voice search cuz I never use it. Any idea how you lost your default launcher?

im not entirely sure how the original got corrupt or missing i unlocked it to make a text on the 26th and it just dident load the home. but its working just as good as it always has now.

well its been a few days the phone works great thogh im not entirely liking the new buttons on the bottom. does anyone know where to get the original motorola flipside home launcher?

it worked perfectly. i just needed to download a home switcher to get it to switch over. thnak you for your great helpfull info.
