[Q] Picture Mail - EVO 4G General

I have a problem. Whenever someone sends me a picture mail i receive the message but the picture does not come up. the only thing there is a button that says download and you click on it and it says downloading but nothing happens. Any thoughts on what i should do?

So I'm guessin your running one of the Cyanogen or AOSP roms. I've found these just don't do picturemail all that well. I can get static pics but no animated gifs on these roms. I've never had a problem on any of the Sense roms (Not sure about Sense hd).
If your having issues on a stock Sense build, this may be a phone problem.

yeah its cyanogen. i dont even see the static picture. do u know a good sense rom to get? i would love to try one that is good.
Thanks,

fresh evo 3.5 is pretty good. i just switched from that to cm because i want to used a bt keyboard and wii remote on my phone.
fresh is pretty quick.
i think you will like it

I get the same problem with Myn's Warm. I think it may be a phone issue.

I have the same problem and made a thread if you want to check it out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10197958
basically the only fix i have found for now is when you get the download button, open a task killer and kill the "messages" and "message uploader" processes then go back into the message and hit download and it will come up. From what I can tell it is for sure a sprint issue. I have had the problem before i even rooted and its continued no matter which rom i use or which wimax/radios either.

OP, are you running handcent? i have the same "problem" but i thought it was just a setting in handcent.

I have the same issue, of course my cell phone provider told me to do a hard reset, I can send picture messages, but can't recieve them.

I get this sometimes too. Usually dropping to 3g will fix it. If that doesn't work, a reboot will do. It tends to happen when I've gone a long time without rebooting.

I"ve had the problem on different phonies, different ROMS, different MODS> Sprint says there's a ticket out the MMS problem.... for what it's worth

HTC Messaging Lag - Progress...

Ok, so I installed the HTC Messaging fix, not sure if that did this or whether it did it before, but here goes...
I know this may be discussed else where, but this is progress on the issue at least and hopefully this might spark a few ideas rather than people just advising "it doesn't work, HTC sux"
** I think this does fix the lag, in a round about way **
Ok, bare with me on this...
I installed the update and it fixed nothing for me, I'm mainly having issues with the lag on messaging.
I noticed in Task Manager (installed Dutty's) that the Messaging app is called "Start" which is when I load messages from HTC Sense UI. Loading this way, still got the lag.
If I disable HTC Sense UI and load messages, its instant. Yes the messages still load down the side but I can now tap and create a new message while this is loading. SPOT ON, FIXED!
Ok, now in Task Manager I notice this is called "HTC Messaging", not "Start", so I'm thinking, cool, its reset the messaging app and sorted it out. So I enable HTC Sense UI again and back to same problem, this loads "Start".
So.... I first installed the hotfix with Sense UI enabled, which didn't resolve the problem unless Sense UI wasn't on.
I've tried installing again with Sense UI disabled, but I have the same issue.
So yes, the problem is fixed in a way, but it is Sense UI that seems to be loading this "Start" messaging app.
Can someone else try this to confirm? Or can some really clever person fix what I've started...?
Edit -- It happens all the time now, I disable HTC Sense UI and the Messaging program changes its name when loaded. WTF? Come on guys, let me know if you have the same issues.
Wow. 51 views and not 1 person has posted back to say whether turning their HTC Sense UI off has resolved this problem.
Come on!!!
It did...
It does solve the problem... Plus it makes a full charge last aprox. 40% longer, oh yeah and also generally speeds up everything on the phone.
I've written this to HTC but who knows if they listen. It has also been posted a couple of times in this forum.

Has it, my bad, haven't seen it anywhere and read through a massive chunk. Ah well, as long as people are aware

so many roms, which one? SMS specific

i know there are tons and tons of ROMs to try, but i dont really have the time and patience to try every single ROM to find what i need, which is quite simple/basic really. i'm still running a stock ROM that my TMOUS HD2 came with, but the SMS is laaaaaaaaaaggggggy as can be. almost makes me want to return my phone. it's kind of laggy switching between conversations and stuff like that, but the major issue i have with it is when i get an incoming text, my whole phone freezes. sometimes up to 10 seconds. and if i'm talking to more than one person at once, it gets SO frustrating and i want to break the phone into pieces lol
so basically, i'm just curious as to if anyone knows of a specific ROM (or ROMs) that significantly speed up the SMS issue. i've searched a few, but none that got SMS specific. most just say faster and more reliable. so now i'm deciding to post a thread for one. the only thing i have on my phone currently is cookies home tab. along with a few other minor cabs (like the middle unlock slider)
i'm ok about trying a few out, i just cant go down the long list of ROMs flashing for days. so any help would be greatly appreciated
and also, sometimes the whole SMS app will act up and i will get a text, and it will say the exact same message that i just sent, just looks like it's from the other person. so i have to delete the whole conversation to be able to text again. and at other times i will send a text, and i think they get the message, but it never shows up in the conversation. again, delete the convo and restart the phone. it's quite irritating.
i should also mention i want to keep the conversation setup, and i do use swype (i think i read somewhere that swype wasnt compatible with that particular ROM)
If your phone is freezing that long then there is another issue at hand. Try formatting your SDCard. I experienced freezing once early on and formatting the SDCard fixed it for me.
As for a ROM to use, this question is asked at least once a week and no one can answer it for you but yourself. If you don't have the patience to try different ROMS then you really should read abit more on the forum before making a decision.
Energy ROMS work very good for me for what it's worth.
yeah i have a few i am going to try, but i thought maybe someone was experiencing a similar issue that they fixed. would save me some trouble heheh.

[Q] Flashed Froyo on MT3G 1.2; a couple of concerns

I finally took the plunge and rooted/loaded a new ROM on my wife's phone. Everything went smoothly and I figured that the best/easiest choice for a new ROM would be the CyanogenMod ROM 6.0 that just came out.
Since I loaded the new ROM, I've noticed a few things that I hope someone can help me fix.
First, one of the main reasons that I wanted to load the ROM is so I could get rid of that Amazon Mp3 app. The Froyo ROM I installed still had it
Also, I've noticed that when I try and rotate the screen, it takes several seconds (some times close to a minute) to actually rotate. This mainly happens right when I unlock the phone.
My wife says that the option to have separate tones play when an e-mail comes in vs an SMS has gone away. I haven't played with it, so IDK about this. She just wants to know if the message received was an email or a text.
There were some other things, but I don't remember what they were, so if I remember I'll post. But those are the big ones. If there is anything I can do to fix them, let me know please! Also, if there is a better, smoother, faster ROM for MT3G 1.2 than the CYGN 6.0, I wouldn't be opposed to reflashing.
Thank you for any help!

Let's start off by moving this to General.
The best way to remove a system app (Yes, Amazon MP3 is considered a system app) is by installing Titanium Backup and using that app to remove any system app that you don't want installed. I used it recently to remove Street View (Street.apk) and I was able to install the newest version from Market after a reboot.
There should be no reason why it would take any more than a couple of seconds to rotate your home screen. How many widgets and shortcuts do you have? Try locking the Launcher app to memory. That may help.
SMS notification:
SMS app, Settings, check Notifications, Notification Settings, Select Ringtone
Gmail notification:
Gmail, Settings, check Email notifications, Select ringtone
Email notification:
Email, Settings, check Email notifications, Select ringtone
Thank you! Sorry for posting in wrong forum. I debated General and Android... should have gone General!
As per the homescreen, I believe she only has 2 widgets: Analog Clock and some task killer widget. IDK if the task killer widget is the root of the problem, but I will have her remove it and see if that fixes it. I also don't know how to check if it is using a lot of system resources. Is there some kind of Taskmgr app that will tell me if that app is a resource hog?
Thank you for your response!
That Task Killer Widget. Oh My, that is one resource hogger. I tried it on my Tilt with Froyo ... it hogged up badly . I gave up, and got me a new myTouch 3G 1.2 off ebay.
Ok, I got the sound thing all working (really easy. Should have looked b4 I asked) But the rotation is still really slow
I was given a Droid to help develop a mobile application recently, and even though it has similar specs to the MT3G, and the same OS version, there is not lag in the screen rotation. I've installed most of the same apps on the Droid and still there is no lag.
Is there something else that could be causing the lag? Any thoughts?
Thanks
Have you uninstalled task killer yet? they actually do way more harm than good.
Froyo on Mt3g 1.2?
Correct me if I'm wrong, please, but I thought the only Froyo images for MT3g 1.2 were buggy at best and didn't support wifi or camera, among other things.
A guy I work with just put Froyo on his G1 and says it works faster than Eclair. I want in on that action!
As a MT3G user, I've found that the 6.0 Rom from CY is horrible with a Mytouch sadly. It's the rom not agree'ing with the Mytouch that is the problem, not the phone.
I'd suggest the 6.1 RC1 Mod from Cy, or this linked Rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814142
I've had no problem with the linked rom working for me. I had some minor issues with the RC1 not recieving all my texts, though honestly I upgraded my radio at the same time as changing over to the new Rom, so I'm not sure if it was the ROM or the Radio.

ROM 3.14

I read in another forum that the official release will be another week or so due to some tweaking they want to do to the ROM.
I don't know if this is accurate or not (and I do not have alink to the forum where I read this...I read too many forums), but I think I may wait for the official release.

when 2.13 was leaked it was exactly the same as the one that was released. I'm guessing this will be the same deal. Doesn't hurt to wait though.
3.14 is amazingly stable in my opinion...loads faster than 2.13 to boot!
I didn't wait.
I've been pleasantly surprised by how stable it's been. I've had maybe one or two freezes since the install and that was on day one. Since then it's been rock solid. Even the HTC messaging has been lag free.
It will be some time before I think about switching back to custom ROMs. Although I do miss all those nice features that nrgz has in his builds...
I'll probably install the official release if they've made any tweaks.
I love reading this and am not a patient man, but on the tmo forum (I finally figured out where I read it) they note puling it back for a few more tweaks.
probably bs, but who knows.
I know I should just dicer in with a link from here as I did last time, but I just did a fresh wipe and reinstall a few weeks back due to exchange server policy enforcement and subsequent lock out and thought maybe to wait...just in case.
thanks for the kind responses though!
There is a major flaw. my head phones do not work with this rom. i tested it twice and then had to go back to retail to confirm that my head phone did not become defective. im sure they will review and fix this issue. the speed is the same i can confirm. it needs some more tweaks none the less.
3.14 has been working fine so far. However, my lock screen picture is now stretched. It's driving me insane!!
Has anyone else had this problem? Could it be happening because of something other than the new rom update?
Does anyone know how to adjust lock screen pictures? I can't seem to find any options.
How do you install the .exe file?
What .exe file? The ROM itself? You connect your phone via USB to your computer, let it sync, then run the .exe from your computer to install the ROM on your phone. Read the stickies for exact instructions.

maybe something was wrong apart from the rom, because both stock and my custom roms worked fine... i listen to audi via headphones twice a day every single day... and my headphones work
the rom is a little faster and there are new GUI designs
when i used it as a custom rom, i had no issues. but the moment i used xmoo version of 3.14 i would always get the same issue. i connect head phones and i dont hear anyone talking via phone calls. also for some reason, they are always on speaker phone even if the option is not enable.
can you please link me the version of rom you are using?

God what a huge improvement everything is. I unplugged it from power last night around midnight and left it next to my bed while I slept. With WiFi on. It's now 10 hours later, I've toyed with it for about an hour, and the battery is at 90%.
Unfortunately, HTC Messaging + Swype doesn't appear to be a lot better. Maybe a little, in terms of the initial lag when replying to a msg. Also, when a new msg comes in and you hit the message tab, the thumbnail isn't always the current msg.
Emails look a TON different. Much smaller text = YAY!
Knucklehead noobie here... Where do I get the updated ROM from? Thanks.
Does flashing a new ROM delete all your text messages and stuff?
ranestari, yes it does.
However, just sign up for the Microsoft MyPhone thing (free, and if you already have a live account, you're good to go.) The MyPhone app is in your start menu.
It will back up (sync) all of your texts and pics to their online space, only accessible by you (http://myphone.microsoft.com)
When you flash the rom, just launch the MyPhone app again, log in etc... and it will sync all your texts back to your phone.
There are third party sync options out there, but I've never seen the point.
After flashing 3.14 to my HTC HD2, Microsoft My Phone no longer can synchronize with my computer. It just gets stuck at Authenticating User.
Anybody else have this problem?
Microsoft MyPhone doesn't sync with your computer. It syncs to the cloud (internet). Just put in your live, msn, hotmail or whatever account you configured it with before you flashed, and it should resync.

Can you elaborate on this? My main frustration with the current rom is the stupid HTC messaging client with swype. I absolutely despise this thing and I tried disabling it and going back to the old windows messaging but that didn't go too well (unread counter never resets.. OMFG so frustrating!). My only hope is that they fix this crap in the new rom.
Is the lag when loading texts still ridiculous? Is it at least somewhat better? Why haven't they figured this out, this is just pure crazy in my opinion. A company of that magnitude can't figure out how to fix one of the most basic applications in the phone. this is absurd.
I personally HATE Swype and disable it evertime I flash to a new ROM or come in contact with someone thats got an HD2 with it enabled, but what I can say is that while HTC Messageing in the new ROM is "faster" its also just as slow. What I mean is that (for me anyways) it no longer lags when I get a new text, but its just as slow to load a thread if it has any ammount of messages in it. Personally I don't find HTC Messageing to be all that bad if you just delete your threads every now and then, but thats just me.

[Q] Rare bug on FR008

I always sync my favorite contacts with Facebook but since sometimes my phone contacts don't have a picture that fits well on the contact avatar of the phone or they're not alone in the picture- I like to use a picture that I added myself on the phone. I've realized that everytime FB syncs with the phone my contacts picture automatically changes to the new picture on FB and I have to go back to the personal picture myself. Has anyone else experienced this same "bug" ? It never happened to me with Liberated Eclair

Suggestion: Since we have 2 kernel options for FR008, I would make a nandroid backup of your current ROM/kernel and then flash the other kernel and see if you still have the issue. If you didn't experience the issue on Liberated Eclair, then maybe Liberated Froyo with the HTC Hong Kong kernel may not have the issue. Just a thought?

I forgot to mention that I'm running FR008 with the HK kernel. What are you running? Have you had this problem before?
I don't think its a bug. It was also present on the stock A&T 2.1 rom that came with the phone.
I think HTC just made it so if you choose to sync fb contacts it will automatically select the newest pictures available. Sadly, I never found a way to bypass it (so I just switched to CM6).

I running the HK kernel, too, however, I don't allow FB to sync contacts because this is a company phone and I use the company's Exchange Server to store and sync my contacts.
For me it's an intermittent issue. For some contacts the override stays indefinitely, for some a few days, and for one person it reverts to the FB pic with every synch. I have no idea what logic HTC uses to determine which pic to show.

Really? I used 2.1 for like 3 months since I got my phone and I never dealed with this issue. Now on FR008 it's so annoying, some of my contacts switches pictures everyday and I have to constantly revert my phone contacts to the desired picture. Maybe it's not a bug and it's a function causing this, I just wish I knew which one

yes, i did read the thread. no one seems to have any other information or solutions, so i'd say switch back or deal with it.
