ive had a odd phone crash i cannot recover the phone from its esentialy a brick now. it turns on and functions sort of but the home page is missing just a blank black screen is there and only the notifacations bar and lock screen works. has anyone ever tryed to flash a velocity rom onto a flipside? if so does everytihng work right afterwards?

Don't know what a velocity rom is, but sounds like you either uninstalled your launcher or it is corrupt. Are you rooted? That's the only way I know that you could have uninstalled it. Here's what you can do to recover regardless. Go to play market from your computer, sign in with your assosiated account to the device and find a home launcher you like. I've used launcher pro and go launcher ex on the flipside. Send your choice to your phone. Then when you unlock the phone, press the home key and you should be given the choice to use the new launcher. Should fix, but you'll have to do some customizing.
it was rooted however i dont think it is now because i tryed to do the master reset when it first happened. will this still work without being rooted?

Should still work. Doesn't hurt to try.

Not without being able to access the home screen. If you can't remember the google account associated with the phone, sounds like only option is to reflash with the stock sbf. You will lose all data on the phone but not the sd card. The files needed are in the development section.
i did it. i did another master reset resetup the emails form the beginning still had issues messed with the phone got the voice commands to open and told it to open the market by voice command and downloaded it from the phone. its working again now.

Awesome. Glad it worked out. Forgot about voice search cuz I never use it. Any idea how you lost your default launcher?
im not entirely sure how the original got corrupt or missing i unlocked it to make a text on the 26th and it just dident load the home. but its working just as good as it always has now.
well its been a few days the phone works great thogh im not entirely liking the new buttons on the bottom. does anyone know where to get the original motorola flipside home launcher?

Ok, i have an elf. of the phone variety.
No funny hats or curly shoes with bells on.
On the third panel of the HTC today screen,
the app launcher, it will no longer add anything.
I can click on the plus icon, and it will show me
a selecion of programs to add, but after clicking
"select" or "ok" it still wont show the item in

Hmmmm....never heard of that one. Did you make any changes to the phone recently? Install something, flash a new ROM? Have you tried soft resetting the phone? Also try to disable the HTC home plug in and then try to re-enable.
well, i did capture one a couple of years ago, but some rights organisation said it was politically incorrect for me to keep it, so i had to let it go.
anyway.
ive not changed the rom in any way. ive only just got it a couple of days ago.
but ill now try disabling it and enabling it again. see if it helps.

If you havn't got HTC Home Customizer = get this and install on your device.
Not only can you customize the HTC Home plugin to make it prettier you can also add your app shortcuts through HHC and see if they will add that way.

well, thats a prety fantastic program. Ive finally been able to get rid of that weather tab that i never use.
Sadly, whenever I try to add anything to the app launcher through the htc home customizer, it throws an error and closes.

sounds like something got really messed up on your device, probably a registtry change or another app is causing conflict.
Did you get this device brand new?
Have you installed anything recently? If so Try uninstalling it and see if it is working properly now?
Have you been playing around with changing registry settings? If so, try changing things back to the way they were originally.
Maybe if you got the device used, someone else had made these changes.
A hard reset will reset the device back to factory settings and may solve your problem. Unfortunately, you will loose everything you have put on your device, apps, contacts, any customization. You may want to look into backing up some of your data before performing the hard reset. Once hard reset is completed, you can add your custom apps again and start customizing again. No big deal really if you have not done much with your device yet. I have had to do it twice on my device - Just time consuming since I had a lot of customizing already done and had to redo it. Now I know to back up my data before doing a hard reset.

Need help !!!! HD2 changed wmm password?
I have microsoft my phone enabled and everything, but.... as it is my wi-fi and cell radios are disabled....
Before i went to take a shower, i soft resetted my phone using BsB Tweaks, and when i got back from the shower i tried typing in my password... said it was incorrect, and i flipped. but before that i let someone use my phone for like couple seconds, told him my password to the wmm screen, nothing more.. It was working fine with my old password for about the rest of the day.. after letting my friend use it
And now it just seems like it changed the pass itsself, I know how absurd this may sound, but I'm speaking the truth. I just have customized the phone soo far, that i Really do not want to hard reset.
Can the t-mobile employees help reset the password? or Am i just left with that choice.
EDIT: I think i might just go to the t-mobile store and exchange my phone.. 3G was slow anyways, the speaker sounded broken, and the hardware keys are very loose.
EDIT: I can't even type in my password anymore, when i type in the pass, and click unlock nothing happens/

I happened to me too, i did a hard reset. the last thing I remember is to install a cab for sms without manilla. i rebooted and i was able to enter my pass but the ui was the normal windows ui to enter the password, the i reseted the phone again and the normal manila password came but i couldn't enter the password, after several times entering the unlock button didnt even do anything.
Now if i install something big in the phone.. i disable the password , reboot then enable the password.
T-Mobile HD2
This seems to be a bug in the tmobile stock rom, maybe others? It's happened to me before too using the stock tmobile rom. Theres a thread about this over on forums.t-mobile.com as well
The last thing I installed before it happened to me was the flash fix installer to enable flash in Opera.

Use a hard reset. Hold you volumn buttom up and down together then press power buttom the same time. It will reset to the original manufacture.

Its a pretty common bug. No fix, just dont use a password. You can download apps from the Market for protecting your phone with a password. I guess it has something to do with the Microsoft registry, last I read anyway.
If you backed up your phone on your PC then its no biggie. Hard reset, re synce your phone. If you didnt, well... let this be a lesson. I learned the hard way. Always backup your phone.

I already had my contacts backed up, but had over 50 programs installed, and it will be a big pain installing all of them all over again.
As an owner of 20 HD2's (corp. account), I can tell you this has happened to 4 of our phones. It was almost a deal breaker. I can also tell you that TMO/HTC have aknowleged the issue and are working on a fix for it. (This comes from upper ups at TMO)
We HAVE to have Lock PIN's enabled, as we are a law firm and such.
For the record, it has nothing to do with anything you've installed, BsB or otherwise. All of our phones, except mine, are running stock ROMs (2.13) and Radio. No one here has the want or desire for 'frilly' things like CHT or BsB. The 4 phones that have "lost" or "forgotten" the PIN code were all stock.
Our interim solution, is to have everyone use MS MyPhone for backup purposes. Note that this does NOT back up anything on your SD card. Pull the SD card out before you wipe it, and you will not lose anything there. Can't speak for apps installed there, as I'm sure there are needed reg entries on the phone that will need to be recreated. That's a guess tho.
Short answer, if it's forgotten your PIN, you're screwed as far as avoiding a wipe.

I was super eager to test the full flash but i can barely get to the websites themselves without the browser closing suddenly. I updated the firmware, profile, prl, and everything. the phone was never rooted.
I'm about to do a hard reset but I figured i should check what you guys had to say first.

Hard reset is the only thing that has helped so far. Just do it, it will make the system work better anyway.
Will a hard reset effect firmware/froyo.
I had the same issues with the camera. Reset all folders permission to read and write.

No, a hard reset basically wipes your data and cache(?) partitions. All apps and data are deleted. This will return you to just your normal firmware, without any customizations. Then you can reinstall apps. I think that's the main problem, some apps aren't dealing with the upgrade too well, and as a result, you get some weird errors. It won't change any versions of your software though.

And if we re-install apps, does the settings/info saved on them return or would we have to change those as well? I'm getting ready to do a hard reset too and I spent alot of time with these apps and I was worried about losing info/settings..

Search "how to hard reset the HTC EVO". It can either be done through the settings menu or you can physically do it using the power and volume rocker.
My dad was having similar issues. And said that going into settings while in the browser and changing enable plugins from "always on" to "on demand" helps
Also the person using launcher pro go into the launcher pro settings or preferabces and all the way on the bottom you can backup your settings/homescreen.

It will return back to sense. It will be like a brand new phone. Before you hard reset backup your launcher pro settings and homescreen. Hard reset if my internet fix didn't work. Reinstall all apps and launcherpro and then restore launcher pro settings and homescreens.

No you can remove Adobe flash and reinstall it.. worked flawless for myself.

I hate to ask this sounding like a noob, but I'm at work and can't do much research, but what would be the best way to backup all those files? Just with the USB drive or is there a backup app I can download, etc.
Nevermind, I figured out how to backup Launcher Pro, but how about apps still?

It should still be in the market, got it earlier for latest CM Nightly.
Yeah I don't see it either. I found Flash 10.1 beta on Appbrain, but it won't sync with my phone. I uninstalled and removed flash and my browser is still crashing.
Here is the APK. I had to uninstall it using titanium backup. was easier than going the ADB rm way

I had the same problem. Some are saying it's because of installing the half ass full flash version on 2.1 that came out a month ago.
I downloaded and reinstalled the apk and then it worked...for about 6 hours and then the browser starting crashing again.
The next time i uninstalled and then installed the flash 10.1 again, so far, so good.
When I get home I'm gonna try that and hope it works before I do a hard reset.
Nothing worked so I finally decided on the hard reset. I think one should do it anyway to get the best out of the update. Everything works fine now, glad to see that it remembers the apps I had already paid for. The whole thing seems to run smoother than ever, (I hated the baggy scrolling.) Southparkstudios works now, the entire video section of the new York times works now as well. Embedded YouTube videos work on Facebook they play without me having to leave the page/browser.
****ONE ISSUE***
Text fields act strange. I can't type status updates into the full Facebook site anymore, nothing happens when I tap the text field. That blows big time I hate using the Facebook apps I want the full site to work fully.
Similarly, I was never able to type into the text fields on the gmail full site. Now I can a little bit although Tue browser seems uber confused about whether it wants to deal with the text field or not. Any ideas why text fields (
Rich text fields) are such an issue?
I was hoping that yahoo games would work, especially yahoo pool but still no go.
I just got my Evo on Saturday and have experienced a problem that I cant seem to fix.
Basically what happens is my home button stops functioning. Instead of taking me back to my default screen, the screen will just flash. So I have to use the back arrow now.
I have launcherpro and beautiful widgets installed, but I dont know if either of these would cause the issue.
Ive had to reboot my phone several times before its fixed, then it will randomly happen again.
Has anyone experienced this? Please help. This is so frustrating and annoying.

Dude the same thing was happening to me. When u try to press the home button it would jus flicker back and forth between screens or something like that. And the only way I got rid of it buddy was rooting and flashing a new Rom, because the sense Rom has sum sort of bug in it. That's a guaranteed fix.

No, I don't mean clear defaults. I mean flashing to a custom built Rom. That's the only way that problem will stop. I only know this because when I first got my Evo I had the same problem. I thought it was something I was going to have to deal with but I noticed the problem was gone sum time after me rooting my phone. This was not planned, it was just knowledge from experience. Yes there is a one click method for your phone called unrevoked3. You will jus need a few things. To install on ur computer. Check out this link and follow the instructions very carefully. http://www.jonamerica.com/technology/howto-root-the-htc-droid-incredible/ if u seem to get stuck which u probably will, jus let me know and I can TRY to help. It shouldn't be a hard or long process but if u don't have any experience then it might take a little while. I have been updated to android ten and now the lock screen will revert back to the lock screen every time you put in the pin even if its correct. I seen the pixel is having the problem also. Ive tried to change to a password instead of the in and it wont let me change it because it asks for the pin to change it and does the same thing and if you twice it crashes settings app. I went to turn oem unlock bootloader in case it turned off and couldn't get back in and it wont even let me turn oem unlock on because it ask for a pin and then does the same thing then setting app crashes. Is anyone experiencing this and what is the work around?
Not a real solution, but it appears you can add a new user and still use the phone while you wait for a real fix from Google/Essential.

So I had been on Android 10 since it came out everything worked fine until yesterday was trying to put in my pin, and it would do what I explained. I didn't think anything of it until I seen the article about the pixel and then I knew it was the same bug. This almost has to be a server side change because my phone was fine until yesterday. I tried everything I could find to fix it and it will not let you change the user on essential. Ultimately I did reset in recovery because the phone isn't functional after this bug hits.

Any chance that your phone automatically did an OTA update just before having this problem? There's a small hotfix that just released.

Which hotfix? Released when? Any info on it? Essential website doesn't have any new builds/updates. Update check in Settings also doesn't find anything...

My phone didnt update same build as I have had. It just happened I didnt do anything out of the ordinary and once you reboot after it hits the phone is pretty much unusable until you factory reset from recovery.

You can get into the settings with that method but it wont let you do anything from the setting that would be useful. I seen where on pixel you can change users and use the phone but this option wouldnt work on the essential for me.
You can try deleting /lockscreen.db in data/system/lockscreen.db
That will delete your current lock screen password but won't touch anything else. Just go in twrp and mount system and go to advanced/file manager and navigate to said file and swipe to delete.
Probably not very much help but just an idea...
