[Q] Backup Wildfire with shipped rom - Wildfire General

Hello. I need to make a backup for my Wildfire with its shipped ROM. I tried to do it by the usual way:
Shut down
Volume down + Power
Recovery..
And when I selected recovery an image with the phone with a red "!".
The question is: Can I create a backup of my phone (including OS) without unrevoked tool or other root tools?
Thanks

AFAIK it is not possible to create a backup without a custom recovery, so root is needed.
Can you not get hold of a HTC RUU you can install if/when you need to revert to stock?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App

I installed Wildpuzzle ROM and GPS did not work. So I got my ROM from shipped-roms.com/shipped/Buzz/
Now I need to be safe with my phone's operating system. I have the installer of the shipped ROM but I am asking if its possible to make a backup on my SD card without root tools.

Once rooted your warrenty will be gone.
I myself used RUU to get rid of a buggy phone yesterday. Used Unrevoked to root and use Custom Roms and that can cause your phone to not boot when you charge it when it is off.
So back to default ROM without root. Hopefully that will restore my warrenty also?

Go back to Stock on Hero

I just purchased a HERO 6262 GSM on ebay and looks like it is already rooted and is running FirmwareVerison: Villain5.2, Baseband version:63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18, but I want to go back to stock HTC rom. I've installed HTC Sync and downloaded two different RUU's and try to install but it fails. I've tried RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_1.76.405.6_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver and RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_1.76.405.1_R3_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver.
It acts like it is going to install the rom, but it fails. In the RUU I get error 140: Bootloader version error. What am I doing wrong? Or which Stock rom should I install.....please help. I would also like the ability to root again and go to Villain down the road.
Much thanks and all help is appreciated!
Nevermind.....I just downloaded and installed RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.5_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver without any problems. So I guess I must use this one from now on to go back to stock version. How about how to reinstall Villain 5.2? Much thanks.
Well you haven't done yourself any favours, putting an official, non-rooted ROM on, then wanting to re-root it later.
Goldcard for you methinks.
Lol
You should have read more before you messed with the phone...
You should have done android backup first.
Now
I think you have to.. root.. then load the new ROM.

why would you buy a rooted phone, just to throw some stock firmware on there to want to root it again?
*Facepalm*
Because I wanted to make sure the phone was all good and not screwed up by the previous owner......looks like I gotta use the goldcard method to root it. However, which ROM do you guys recommend?
with the ruu 2.73.405.5 you can use flashrec-20090815.apk and flash recovery image without goldcard

Seconded. That's actually the RUU I used, to downgrade to, via a gold card. So at least the OP has saved themselves the hassle of that.

Not able to root my DHD

Guys -
i am newbie in these rooting stuffs, i tried to root my DHD, but now stuck in the very first step...
I installed VISIOnary+ in DHD and set USB debuggin ON.
checked "set system r/w after root" and selected temproot now.
it says rooting your device and after 2min, only black screen..nothing happens.
I waited for 10min, but the same black screen.
So, rebooted and everything was normal(as a un-rooted device).
any help what wrong i did or how to rectify this problem.
Thanks
Satya
Hi,
you need to downgrade to 1.32 before to gain root.

Place on SD Card and use recovery or ROM Manager to install ROM.
Wipe data (factory wipe) before each ROM.
I have flashed the custom Rom, but the volume seems to be muted. The other person in the call s not able to hear me. Neither does the voice recorder picks up any sound. S there any setting to turn on?

Perform a Task 29 then simply flash a stock WinMo rom viz SD card method...this resets back to stock WinMo and SPL (removes HSPL as well)..
Flash the correct stock rom, if you're using a t-mo HD2, flash a t-mo rom, and so on and so forth.
I cant get task29 to work, says it needs htc sync which i have!
When I try to install the stockrom (from HTC Site, renaming it LEOIMG.nbh) using bootloader it does not work either.
I get the coloured screen and it keeps saying serial and doing nothing!
What to do now?
Well, task 29 worked, however I could not install my stock rom using the sd card method, just installed it via bootloader connected with usb and it worked.
However, for my insuarance to be effective I also need a stock spl, where can I get that?

Noob Qustions about Rooting

I'm new at this so i got all these noob qustions
First my DHD have built 2.42 with Arabic Regional Support ?
so
Do i need A Gold card ?
How do i know if my phone is S-Off or Not ??
What the best way to S-Off , Radio S-Off or Eng S-Off ?
When i downgrade will i loss my stock ROM ?
or i'll lose it at S-Off or rooting ?
Can i backup my stock ROM before i start rooting?
Rooting can mean radio off or/and eng off. Refer to desire HD development for rooting. Different build requires different ways to root.
Gold card, you will need one if your downgrading a branded phone. Branded phone includes any network locked phones and also unlocked phones. Even if you buy your phone out right from somewhere, there's still a big chance that it was locked previously. You will know when it says incorrect CID when your downgrade in bootloader.
Either radio or eng off allows you to flash any custom ROM, for beginners its recommended to have radio as its easier, while enthusiast have eng off, but most of the time, both. However to flash a radio, the recommended way is to have both off
The question about backing up your current ROM. After you root, go download a recovery app namely ROM manager which lets you back up your current ROM, meaning you can restore your stock ROM anytime you want. Hope that clears up a bit.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
You only need a goldcard if your dhd is network branded.
If you havent done anything to it yet it will have S-on
All the information you need is in the first post of this thread Link
If you downgrade it you will get a clean stock rom, losing all the data you havent backed up eg contacts, apps, app data. Anything on your sd card will be unaffected and you can use mybackup (30 Day Trial/Full Version/Root Version) to backup you data (but not app data because you dont have root).
Root your phone and use the root version (also free) to restore the backup. It restores with one click but the non-root versions need you to confirm each app installation.
First i'd like to thank u for ur reply , its very helpful
So i got this facts now, Correct me if i'm wrong
1- The best is to have both Radio and Eng S-off
2- I only need Gold Card if get incorrect CID
3- Downgrade , S-off and Rooting , wont replace my Stock ROM and i can back it up
Using ROM manager
4- I can backup my Info Using mybackup
Is this information correct ?

That is correct. But if you have to choose between eng off or radio off, radio off is a better choice because it's more permanent. You can still remove it whenever you want

i think downgrading does replace your stock rom, just with another stock rom. but it'll be like a brand new phone out of the box after you downgrade, everything will be wiped.
i did the downgrade using the link posted above, and i didn't realise it would do that. I thought i could downgrade, root, back up, flash rom, restore. turns out i should've backed up before downgrade.

after you have downgraded, you could always do an OTA update. so essentially its still the stock ROM that your phone came with.

If your radio off, no, you don't have to root again. Radio off is one of the most permanent thing you can do to your phone. However you can still radio off anytime you want.
However, if your only eng off, you might have to, depending on what version of bootloader you upgraded to.

Comments on your steps.
1. i havent actually personally tried mybackup. but you do realise restoring apps and data from your stock to a custom ROM is different than restoring it onto a stock RUU, simply because custom ROMs might run slightly different. but by all means, try it. i am sure thats not enough to break your phone. you might have to redownload some of the apps tho.
another interesting thing to add is, gmail syncs your contact your email. after a fresh flash, all you have to do is resync. it doesnt give back your msges tho.
3. format your sdcard to fat32. this is important because larger sd cards default format cant be read by bootloader.
6. rooting can be divided into 2 types, eng-off and radio-off. what your doing here is an eng off procedure. skip step 9 all together.
7. make sure you radio off since you will be updating to OTA. some OTA breaks eng off, but radio off would still remain.
10. you might have to eng off (radio off would remain) again if you do an OTA update. i suggest moving step 6 after step 11
keep us posted on your status. good luck.

10. oops, sorry my bad, i meant move it after 10. but it doesnt matter really, since you have radio off (the permanent one), you can even backup stock ROM before you try to eng off. remember, radio off is also one kind of rooting and its 'permanent'

i'v found a much much simpler guide here
it's mostly automated and very organized
what do u think ?
Looks good. But I can't personally vouch for it since i never use his frevo toolkit before. But from what I can guess it's just automated script to run adb commands. So it should be safe. I say go ahead and enjoy rooting and flashing and tweaking and so on.

Honeyfire is an experimental rom, so I wouldn't even try it. However, its quite easy to get back to a stock configuration..even if you haven't backed up. First, download a safe-flash zip of a froyo ruu. Then go into CWM. Do a wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache too. Then flash the safe-flash zip. Then you'd be back to stock.

if i can correct your words..
u didnt root your phone with revolutionary.. honestly the "rooting" is very close to hoax..
if u used revolutionary u got full S-OFF (Security-Off) and new recorvery system (Revolutionary ClockworkMod Recovery 4.0.1.4)
S-OFF gives u opportunity to:
Flash new OS
Flash new radio
Disable SIM lock
"Rooting" is on turn when u have installed OS and u need to gain root permissions.. thats all..
back to your problem...
and lets start with a question..
did u backup your original OS ? if yes.. coming back is easy..
if no (thats smart)... u will always depend on some downloaded file.........
(suppose that u have access only to one same phone)
...but this all is just about the sources
because.... WHAT DO U REALLY WANT ?
do u want to stay S-OFF with ClockworkMod Recovery but with original OS ?
or u want to S-ON with that Stock Recovery thing and with original OS ?
Edit:
btw if this

Try to download RUU WWE(world wide english), and install it.
You will stay S-OFF, but if you are S-off with revolutinary try this:

Easy to do all that things so you won't have problems(I hope).
