Go back to Stock on Hero - Hero, G2 Touch General

I just purchased a HERO 6262 GSM on ebay and looks like it is already rooted and is running FirmwareVerison: Villain5.2, Baseband version:63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18, but I want to go back to stock HTC rom. I've installed HTC Sync and downloaded two different RUU's and try to install but it fails. I've tried RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_1.76.405.6_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver and RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_1.76.405.1_R3_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver.
It acts like it is going to install the rom, but it fails. In the RUU I get error 140: Bootloader version error. What am I doing wrong? Or which Stock rom should I install.....please help. I would also like the ability to root again and go to Villain down the road.
Much thanks and all help is appreciated!

Nevermind.....I just downloaded and installed RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.5_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver without any problems. So I guess I must use this one from now on to go back to stock version. How about how to reinstall Villain 5.2? Much thanks.

Well you haven't done yourself any favours, putting an official, non-rooted ROM on, then wanting to re-root it later.
Goldcard for you methinks.

Lol
You should have read more before you messed with the phone...
You should have done android backup first.
Now
I think you have to.. root.. then load the new ROM.

why would you buy a rooted phone, just to throw some stock firmware on there to want to root it again?
*Facepalm*

Because I wanted to make sure the phone was all good and not screwed up by the previous owner......looks like I gotta use the goldcard method to root it. However, which ROM do you guys recommend?

with the ruu 2.73.405.5 you can use flashrec-20090815.apk and flash recovery image without goldcard

Seconded. That's actually the RUU I used, to downgrade to, via a gold card. So at least the OP has saved themselves the hassle of that.

HBOOT 1.49.0200 and 2.1 RUU

I just recently rooted my phone with the new methods and also did the bootloader mod as well. My question is what would happen if I flashed the stock RUU of the latest OTA on my phone that has the 1.49.0200 S=OFF bootloader and Amon_RA's recovery installed? I know it would un root the phone but would the custom recovery and engineering bootloader be intact still? Basically what I want to do is have a stock ROM with superuser support. Thats it. OTA notifications would still show up but I would just ignore them. I'm guessing if the recovery and bootloader were not touched by the RUU I would just flash my overclocking-kernel-v3 and EngTools to root though recovery.
Thanks in advanced. You guys are great. Keep up the great work. You have my full support.
If you want a stock ROM with SU just get plain jane. Or install SU by putting the .apk on the phone.
Why not use a rom like Ivan's or Plain Jane?

I have this obsession with having things as close to stock as possible. I would just prefer the "stock" way even with the apps like Amazon MP3 and other stuff still installed. I also just wanted to know what are some limitations of the engineering bootloader like if I did upgrade to a new official OTA in the future.

If you flashed the current RUU it wouldn't mess with hboot so you would be able to flash a recovery and add root to the rom.
And if the update thats coming doesn't mess with hboot you should be able to add root to it later, but we don't know if it will mess with hboot.
It would be very easy to simply keep everything the same in the OTA rom and just add su
also im pretty sure u cant use the RUU if you have the bootloader 1.49.200 because the bootloader on the RUU is 1.49.000 so its lower it wont go.

I'd suggest you actually take a look at the ROMs suggested. They might surprise you how "stock" they are.
I rooted my phone back when I had HBOOT 1.47, and it brought me to 1.49.200 for root, and I flashed the RUU and it brought me back down to 1.49.000.

Downgrade Problem!

I have searched and searched, tried every method, but I am offically stuck (I think) - I'm prepping a rooted Eris for return - i had previously been able to flash the 2.1 RUU to return to stock, but it now will not work - I guess somewhere along the lines of rooting/ROM flashing my bootloader has changed (it is now v1.49.000) - I can't get any RUU to work (get ERROR in RUU interface) - I have also tried flashing a P00IMG through HBOOT, but it also errors out (something is older than something else - forgot exactly) - I have tried flashing new HBOOT/Recovery Image through ADB per a JCASE post, but that will not work either - I've gotten older ROM's loaded that will allow for new OTA updates, but they ultimately will not work (signature issues i believe) -
So the question is, is there a method that will get me back to 2.1 "stock" & get rid of Amon Ra recovery?
Again, I have searched and tried every method I could find - I have updated my SDK - help anyone?
Ive seen people just send in rooted ones without any problem, so I dont know if they'll check. But if your worried, i would just flash a 2.1 rom that looks like the stock, cause i dont think they'll know the difference.
Do you have a Nandroid backup from when you first rooted?

Unfortunately I don't have it - you wanna loan me yours?
I'm only kind of kidding....
download unzipme.zip which jcase removed on xda from here http://androidmobileos.com/?p=14928 Inside theres dowgrade rom that you flash through custom recovery (which ever one you use). After that you just follow the instructions (adb parts). Works very well. If you will have any issues with adb part as far as flashing back to stock recovery and hboot than check your hboot version and make sure its s-off. If its not you can get it s-off with batery pull trick.
i had an issue like this where the ruu would say that my phone was disconnected and told me to connect it to the computer,i was on a froyo rom,i flashed a 2.1 rom and the ruu worked, just an fyi just incase this might help if you want to return to stock 2.1,once you run the ruu and sync with google you wiil receive the july update also.

[Q] Downgraded bootloader for CM6, need to restore for nandroid

All,
I was running Fresh 3.2 on my evo, rooted via unrevoked3. I wanted to try CM6 which required downgrading the bootloader to .76. Decided to go back to Fresh but I can't do a nandroid restore. I wound up having to go stock and running unrevoked again, bootloader now reads .79 but nandroid still won't restore. I'm thinking I need .93 but not sure.
Any help/thoughts?
Yeah you need to upgrade your bootloader back to the previous version then all will be well.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Any idea where I can find/download the later revision bootloader? I see .76 all over XDA and the web, don't see later versions for download.
i had the same problem last week. you did the right thing, but apparently didn't use the most recent stock RUU. once you reflash that, it should update your bootloader to 0.93. you can then re-root and restore.
I just downgraded my bootloader for cm also. My question is can you flash any other rom without updating the bootloader? Say I wanna flash a fresh rom. Would that work?

What was your original bootloader? 0.93? I believe there was no need to downgrade your bootloader for CM 6.1. I had sort of the same issue and this link helped me, I hope it helps you.

Well dang didn't kno that cm6 wasn't hboot specific. I just went off what he had in his guide. So with that pc36img I just flash in hboot and that will change my hboot to the .96? Will I have to flash a different rom right of way? Also are any other roms specific on what hboot u have? I don't mind setting up my phone again. That's the fun of it. Lol thanks tho for the link and helpfull info.

Yes, put the PC36IMG.zip in the root of your SD card and then just boot into the Bootloader. Accept update and you are good to go. So far on my end, I have flashed many many ROMs and did not have to load a different HBOOT. Good Luck.

Help with unrooting

first, yes i know how to search!
i've found out that when you want to unroot your phone you have to do it using ruu's.
how do i know wich Ruu i should use?
when i install the Ruu, is it just like installing a new rom using clockwork?
and when i've installed the Ruu how do i uninstall clockwork and all the other things that comes with the root?
i am currently using the standard 2.1 update 1 rom for wildfire (original rom)
if you plan not to do rooting and flashing anymore, just update to 2.2. Everything will get original, but you will lose the opportunity to root it again. Otherwise, flash a kinda of unroot image, which comes with unrevoked, i didn't hear about it anyway. Try yourself.
To install the RUU, Download it (It will be an EXE File), install HTC Sync on your PC, Connect your device, and, run it. You will lose Clockworkmod and all root associated apps and priveleges when you unroot it.
First check that you can root your phone.
If you already have Froyo installed on your phone then you will have the new Hboot.
If can root use the old unbranded Eclair Ruu from shipped rom's.
It's in the guide (turkeys guide i think) stickyd at the top of the page.
I also want to go back to using stock ROMs. Froyo actually. The only reason I rooted was to gain app2sd facility which was not there in Eclair.
Now that Froyo is out for wildfire spare me the unstable ROMs. I will go for the Stock one.
I have the RUU for my mobile. But When I run it from PC, I get cannot upgrade your phone. I understand this is because I am having a custom recovery (Mine is ClockworkRecovery).
Now can anyone tell how I can get the stock Froyo ?
Do I need to get the stock recovery back ? Is there a bypass for this ?
Or is there a .zip file intead of RUU.exe files for Stock Froyo ?

[Q] Need to unroot froyo 2.2

I have looked and looked but probably not in the right places... I have a rooted Evo 4G with froyo 2.2. I used unrevoked forever and know how to get the s-on back... I just would like to update the phone to the newest update and root it again. Is it still necessary to get s-on back then load the original ruu rom? I would think I just need to remove the unrevoked then update. The phone works I just want newer firmware on it... My apologies if I did not look for my response properly, but all I see is a reload the IMG file... I dont want to set back to factory... just wanted to post this question. Thank You

There is absolutely no reason to unroot. All you have to do is flash a custom stock ROM based on the newest firmware. A whole bunch are available for flashing in the Development forum.
It is much easier to leave the phone S-OFF and then either flash a rooted stock ROM or run a stock RUU. Then all you would need to do to obtain full root again (with stock ROM) would be to install a custom recovery and then flash a superuser.zip file, rather than turning the phone back S-ON and then going through a potentially complicated procedure just to reroot and possibly turn the phone back S-OFF.
Thank You guys sounds like a custom rom is the way to go... it would get rid of that IQAgent also... I'll look around for a nice looking rooted rom.
