Hello all, Im new to the X coming for an N1. I wanted to try a new Rom but im am not sure how to get back to stock if I needed.
Steps I have taken so far. Rooted and Installed Clockwork Recovery.
Now what? Do i just make a nandroid backup?
Is it best to use ROM Manager or just installed of the SD card using Clockwork Recovery.
Thanks Mike
you can follow the instructions at www.rootzwiki.com for using the SBF 2.2 to return to stock.
I'm just starting to read up on how to root and flash my phone and also how to go back to stock if necessary. If you haven't rooted your phone yet, is there any method to fully backup the phone so that returning to stock is easier?
Thanks!
Use the backup function in the recovery or use an app like MyBackUpPro full version.
Questions should go in the questions section.
Backup option in recovery for sure. This backs up your whole phone state. Apps, settings, icons...everything. For an extra safety measure you can use something like Titanium Backup to backup apps and system settings. This is good for switching roms.
you can use the backup from ROM Manager and if you really need to you can always follow the unroot procedure and that gets you back to the out of the box feel
Thank guys. Sorry for posting in the wrong forum, I thought ROM/flashing questions belonged here...
To backup from recovery or ROM manager you need to first flash over the stock recovery image with ClockworkMod Recovery, correct? I was wondering if there's any full backup that will also backup the recovery image prior to doing this, for an easy return to fully stock phone. I'm guessing the answer is no. Correct?
Thanks!

Once you have rooted the phone, and turned s=off you can flash Clockwork Recovery image to do back ups.
IF you are needed to go to a 100% stock fashion for what ever reason. you can do that. All you need to do is download the PD15IMG which can be found in the development section. Store it to the SDcard and boot the phone into boot-loader. That will replace EVERYTHING and put it back to a 100% factory spec. and no they cannot tell it's been rooted once the PD15IMG has been flashed.
Thanks for the info. That about covers it.
Hey guys,
I want to try out custom ROM's but not sure if I'm going to like them or not... If I don't like it can I return my phone 100% back to stock gingerbread 2.3.3 and receive OTA updates etc ?
Of course you can.
People switch roms all the time.
Some even have an addiction, to be honest...

If you are rooted at 2.3.3 you can install clockworkmod recovery which is available through rom manager and with it you make a backup of the stock rom
With that backup you can restore it whenever you want to
Make sure you wipe all your data, cache and dalvik cache before flash a custom rom

Yup, if you're rooted, you can use Clockwork to make a backup of your current ROM, which will preserve a snapshot of your phone exactly as it is now (with user settings, apps, SMS messages, everything).
Restore a stock rom from a back up made by Clockwork doesnt unroot and S-ON.
It will only restore stock ROM. To unroot and S-ON, there will be another effort

I'm in a similar situation with the OP. I'm with stock 2.3.3 and I want to try new ROMs. The problem is that, from what I have read, in order to root and unlock I first have to downgrade. Is there a way to temproot now so that I can install clockworkmod recovery and keep a snapshot before I downgrade?
When I bought this HTC G2 it was already rooted and running CyanogenMod 6. something. I updated it to 7.0.3 a while back. I was wondering if I could go back to Tmobile Gingerbread and still keep my phone unlocked so I could take the Tmobile updates without loosing all my files, apps, messages and phone numbers. I never had the original Tmobile rom backup on the card when I got the phone so don't know where to start.

Nevermind, I found it here . But it should be added in the instructions to "chmod 755" su and busybox, not just fixsu.sh.
after the OTA update to 2.3.4 my rooted droid 2 boots into ClockworkMod Recovery 2.5.0.8.
From what I'v read it isn't possible to to restore my phone to 2.3.3. So I'd like to remove clockwork mod recovery so it boots normally. Currently I have to choose "reboot system now" from recovery, when I do a cold restart, then the phone boots normally.
So far I'v only wiped my user data, but thought i'd better check what would be the best course of action. Don't want to brick my phone.
Sorry if it's a noob question.
Don't think about downgrading to 2.3.3 you'll be bricked and have to install 2.3.4 and lose cwm and root

Yeah saw the posts (of people trying to downgrade). I'm thinking of selling it, but need to remove the clockwork recovery. Any ideas on how to get it off of there?
Use the 2.3.4 SBF as mentioned above.

if your not worried about losing root, SBF use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1662091
if you just want to fix cwm, read Proper Use Droid 2/X Bootstrapper
the logwrapper or hijack is the problem,
also read Droid Wiki: SBF, Recovery, CWM info
Hey folks. Newish to the root scene (original Droid, then a 2 year break) and just need some help making back-ups.
I rooted the lazy way (Nexus 4 toolkit) and installed the CWM touch recovery. I installed ROM manager, made a back-up in there, but I cannot delete it and ROM manager isn't my favorite, so I uninstalled. It also never seemed to "really" make a back-up. Kinda weird.
I used the Toolkit backup method and that worked fine. Saved a copy on my desktop and on the device.
Manually updated to 4.2.1 today in CWM recovery. Deleted my old back-up after the process to free up space on the phone. Now I am trying to just use CWM recovery to make my back-up. Problem is similar to ROM manager....says it made a back-up, but not actual back-up found in CWM Backup folder. Weird.
Now I am waiting for the Nexus 4 Toolkit to be updated to make sure my back-up is safe and sound.
Mealwhile....what the heck am I doing wrong!
