Hello all, Im new to the X coming for an N1. I wanted to try a new Rom but im am not sure how to get back to stock if I needed.
Steps I have taken so far. Rooted and Installed Clockwork Recovery.
Now what? Do i just make a nandroid backup?
Is it best to use ROM Manager or just installed of the SD card using Clockwork Recovery.
Thanks Mike
you can follow the instructions at www.rootzwiki.com for using the SBF 2.2 to return to stock.

Hey everyone! Glad to join the community!
Anyways, I have a T-Mobile 32B Magic, with Cyanogen's Recovery 1.4 and CyanogenMod 4.2.12.2
I am debating going back to stock HTC ION Rom (I don't need any of the T-Mobile crap, MyFaves etc.)
I have a backup .img of the recovery that came loaded on the phone if that is needed.
Am I correct to assume that simply booting into recovery and flashing the "signed-google-ion-img" will revert me back to 1.6 stock? I know I'll lose root and everything.
I'm loving Cyanogen, but I'm curious as if there is a way back.
Thanks to anyone who can help me.
Check the link on my sign
OK, sounds easy enough, but can I skip the SPL and fastbooting part and use the hacked recovery I already have on my MT3G? Like just copy the zip to sd, do a wipe and flash?
Hi Guys,
I'm a little new to all this so please bear with me..
Just rooted my MT4g and want to make a nandroid backup before i do anything. However i see that i need to use CWM to flash a custom recovery image in order to make the backup.
Is there anyway to reverse that recovery image back to stock? Incase i need to revert the phone completely back to stock...
Thanks.
Sorry, i think i found it!
I'm guessing this is it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843289
Please close this thread if that's it.. sorry for spamming.
If you completed the root process then you already have CwM recovery. Just use Rom Manager to make a backup. If you have to revert back to stock the process will reinstall the stock recovery img for you.

Hmm okay. I did successfully root the device and I was following this write up to backup the phone using nandroid which says i need to flash a custom recovery ROM.
I just tried to backup current ROM and it gives me a message saying i must flash CwM recovery first and gives me an option to install it. But i'm guessing it's possible to restore that from the link in my second post?
You can use clockwork to restore your factory rom, but if you want to revert your recovery back to stock you will need to fastboot flash the stock recovery back on. This is assuming you have first flashed the stock rom which will leave you without clockwork rom manager installed. There's a few unroot guides that will help you if you need to send your phone back to tmo. I would suggest becoming familiar with ADB and Fastboot. That knowledge will give you more options in a pinch.
Swyped on my rooted MyTouch4G
Thanks much!
Yes i am doing a lot of reading right now, but wanted to make sure all the files i needed were out there for the MT4G already. Looks like the factory recovery is out there and it can be flashed back so i'm not to worried.

Yes all the files are out there that you would need to pretty much do whatever needed. Check out the links in my sig for some good things.

There's your problem.
ClockworkMod Recovery 3.0.0.5 is for Gingerbread-based (Android 2.3) ROMs. Evil 4G is a Froyo-based (Android 2.2) ROM. These different versions of Android use incompatible filesystems.
How to recover:
1. Download CyanogenMod 7, a Gingerbread-based ROM, to your PC. Choose the newest release candidate (RC2) or the most recently Nightly build.
2. Boot into CWM Recovery, select "mounts and storage" and make your SD card mountable via USB.
3. Copy the CM7 .zip file to your SD card.
4. Install the .zip after a full wipe / factory reset
5. If you want to stay with CM7, also download the Google Applications (Gapps) .zip to your PC, copy to your SD card and and install it after you complete the install of CM7.
6. Boot CM7.
7. If you want to install Evil 4G, run Rom Manager and have it flash CWM Recovery 2.5.1.2, then reboot into Recovery, full wipe / factory reset, and install Evil as previously planned.
Thanks Ill get on it....
So could I just get CM7 on there then get an older version of clockwork to use the backup I made for the Mytouch rom I had before?
Or is the backup I made pretty much lost because Im using Clockwork V3?

Your backup was made with an incompatible version of CWM Recovery. It may not be usable. That said, some people have reported in the some of the many many threads on this subject that they have been able to restore a Froyo backup made with V3, while running V2. Your results might match theirs. The steps I show above let you stop at CM7 or continue on to Evil 4G, and do not include restoring your Stock ROM.

this gets you running with the 2 versions of recovery, one for froyo, one for gingerbread. whichever backup you want to restore, just use the matching recovery so your old backup is fine
I neglected to mention CWMR 3.0.0.6, that camrs73 just posted about, with a link to its main thread. This is a custom version of CWM Recovery built by option94 that supports both Froyo and Gingerbread filesystems. In order to install it, you need to have a functioning Android system first. You can install it =after= you get CM7 or Evil 4G up and running.
Ok thank God lol
Thanks for the Input guys Ill flash CM7 then download that Clock work and let you know how it went.
* Update im running Cm7 and getting CW installed.

From here if you install 3.0.0.6 Clockwork recovery image (link in my signature) you can flash between 2.2 and 2.3 ROMS w/o any problems.
Yes!!! Im saved!!!
Thanks jggimi ,camrs73 and of coarse neidlinger for your clockwork mod!!
One more question...can I have more than one backup saved on Clockwork?
you can have as many as storage space allows and flash whichever one you feel like at the time (with the appropriate recovery of course)
I need to make a warranty exchange, but if I send my phone in, and they see its rooted, Im going to get an out of warranty fee.
Its not letting me recover to my back up. Im completely lost as to what to do. I need to make it look like Ive never rooted my phone at all
You don't really expect to get much help with so little information, do you? What recovery and ROM do you have installed? How are you trying to go back to stock, a nandroid backup?
Sorry. Guess thats kind of important. lol
Recovery: 3.0.0.5
themed ice glacier 1.1.4
And form what the person who rooted my phone told me, that I now cant get a hold of, I just install from backup that he had originally made, when he flashed the rom. Sorry. I know Im a noob. Been extremely busy to actually learn. Go figure the guy whos been helping me, hasnt been answering his phone
CWM 3.0.0.5 can only flash Gingerbread ROMs, and the stock image you're trying to restore is a Froyo ROM. All you need to do is switch to CWM 3.0.0.6 and you can successfully revert back to stock.
1. Go here to install this CWM version, which will allow you to flash 3.0.0.6 and older CWM, which you need to go back to stock nandroid restore (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944681).
2. Go here for how to restore stock nandroid (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845756). Make sure you flash older CWM recovery when restoring stock nandroid. After restoring, you can follow thread and instructions to turn S-on again.

You do not need to use any recovery other than 3.0.0.6 to restore the stock nandroid image.
Awesome. Thanks man. Time to go bleed magenta. Hahaha

I recently rooted my phone and want to install a custom rom. I bought bandroidx's recovery app and hope to install his custom rom. unfortunately im a bit of a noob and don't know how to use the app properly. Can any one provide some more detailed instructions for this process than what is posted with bandroidx's release thread.
Thanks in advance.
Download the ROM zip to your sdcard, then open the app and bootstrap recovery, then reboot into recovery and clear cache and dalvik cache (in advanced) and then choose to install zip from sdcard and select the rom zip you downloaded earlier. :O
Thanks heydabop
Also if i needed to flash back to my old rom how should i back up my current stock froyo?

I'd do a backup with titanium backup, and then also backup in recovery by going to backup and restore.

You can also flash the "SBF" file using RSDLite, that takes you back to a 100% stock configuration.
Not sure about the custom ROM, but bandroidx's Bravo Overclock is very sweet!!
Thanks everyone I appreciate it!
