Forgive me if this has been discussed already but I haven't really found anything relating to it when I did a search.
I had started my wifi router when I was using my winmo, then I booted to android. I was at work and my friend noticed that my winmo wifi network was showing up on his phone even though I had been in android for the entire morning. He could even connect.
I had been having freezing problems and high battery drain problems so I thought maybe this could be something that is causing the problems. So as of right now I disable all my wireless communications within winmo before I start my android and things actually seem to run better. I don't know if this is just a fluke or what but I will know more in the morning, as my android almost never fails to freeze when I leave it in standby overnight.
What are your thoughts? Is this common practice to disable these things or is this something new?
Thanks.
Forgot to say I am using Kumars premium 2.10 ROM I think? and Froyostone sense V2.
maybe disabling connections in winmo helps with heavy battery drain, but i can't imagine that it helps with freezes, since they seem to be related to the g-sensor.
or do you have freezes that require a reboot?!

I still have freezes occasionally even with the G-sensor disabled with g-script. I get the SOD with NO button lights.
what radio rom do you have? some people report that another radio rom fixed the sod's.

I disable my WiFi in Windows Mobile first.
You may be interested that I found a post suggesting the use of an app called "Lite Setting Profiles" to disable the WiFi when your screen turns off. This, along with having the G-Sensor disabled (SetCPU and Autokiller running as described in various places), seems to have solved my freezes and SoD.
In fact I'm currently testing with my G-Sensor enabled again to see if I can get away with it running as well.
Now that I think about it, yes, I do also see the WinMo version along side Andriod.
But... Even when I was just on WinMo by itself, I would see the Wifi in my laptop's list, even if I had WiFi on the phone turned off. I couldn't connect, but it always did show, so I've been used to it and haven't thought of it once I tried out Android.

I have 2.10.50 radio
Still getting SOD in fact it's getting really bad now. If my screen sleeps for more than 5 minutes I get the SOD.
Here is my 2 cents on your wifi router story.
I doubt that wifi was still running on your windows ROM as windows is killed when android starts.
What I've noticed in the past is when I connect to the wifi router on my phone using my laptop, it remembers the connection for later. In fact, I've had times when my phone is off and my laptop still shows the phone router as available. I haven't tried connecting to it when its not actually available but my guess is that in your friend's case, he would not have been able to browse. His phone probably just showed as connected to your wifi router but did he try browsing something using that connection?
No he killed the connection before he tried to browse anything. My question is though how is the wifi router signal even being seen, i killed windows at home and when I got to work he saw it. That's my main question.
Also I changed my radio to 2.12
maybe that will help some.
I had SOD with almost every build till I switched to the 2.12 radio and have not had one SOD since then.

I hope that's the case with mine. So far so good, but if im using it regularly it never seemed to SOD, but if i left it overnight it always SOD without fail.
I had an odd thing happen as well. I had some wifi connection issues in Android and rebooted and turned wifi on in WM and then booted android. Once android was up I had a slow blinking Green LED..which I never get any LED lights on in Android.
Was getting several data freezes every day (5 to 7 every day). I installed a free app from the Android Market called DATA ON DEMAND which is supposed to switch your data from 3G to 2G in order to conserve battery when phone is idle in sleep mode (screen off). This app did not work on my device. It would kill the data completely after phone was put to sleep and data nor voice would restore unless the phone was restarted. Needless to say, I uninstalled the app and rebooted my phone and strangely, my phone has not dropped data even ONCE in 5 DAYS. I have tested this on 3 other HD2's and all followed the same pattern. I have only tested them for the last 3 days though. My exact setup as far as OS's is:
Windows Mobile Rom: Omega v14 WWE XT CHT
Radio: 2.14.50.04
Android Rom: mattcevoleo1.0.1
Kernel: [email protected] (r1)
Please post if this works for you if you decide to try it. I am curious. That was probably the only real downside to my daily HD2/Android usage.
When you say data freeze, do you mean the issue with the up data arrow getting stuck?.
my build too i am using mattc 1.8 with sense and when data is on the arrow stops and i lose data happen to me 5 time a day

Same here, I've also noticed the phone uses a lot more battery power when the data connection is on. Maybe its linked?
Thanks to the OP for the possible solution.

yes, that is what I am refering to. sometimes both arrows would get stuck.
Since updating to hastrian 7.1 I don't see any improvements to my battery life and data like everyone is taking about is still a problem, if some one could correct this it would be three best setup ever
It not solve my data connexion problem, i have installed the apps, set it to AUTO, reboot, delete the apps, and now everything is same than before i install the apps... nothing better...
using the Mdeejay eVo Sense v. 1.0 Warm|3.29.651.5|[kernel: hastarin R7.1] release with the libhtc_ril_wrapper.zip updated (9/28)
Ill try this on my 1.8 and my evo 1.0.1, will report back

How long were you running michy's r1 kernal before you installed that app? Reason I asked is because installing michy's r1 kernal and rebooting is what solved my data issue.
*minus the winmo rom i have the same exact set up as you

Solutions?
Any new solutions to this item, I attempted the above fix and didn't quite fix it. I have a good feeling this fix has a lot to do with the rom/radio combination.

I concur. Thats why I was wondering how long had he used that set up before downloading the app. I have almost the same exact set up and my data connectivity has been excellent (this is without downloading that app)
I can confirm this has worked for me, after updating my kernel to hastarin 7.1
i started having data disconnections, then this came along
thanks for sharing
My attempt ...
Until now, any build that uses PPP would not work without at least one flaw in the data connection every half hour or less... Terrible...
I then decided to try a combination of the tips that I've been reading in the forum.
First, I edited the build.prop in system folder and changed the last two lines in the file, the primary and secondary DSN. I used Namebench, a free program to find the indication of which DNSuse for my region (I live in northern Brazil). I run the Namebench on my laptop and copied the two recommended DNS addresses.
Then followed another tip, and using the *#*#4636#*#*, changed the network configuration for GSM auto.
And finally, in the phone settings, I changed from GSM/WCDMA auto to GSM only...
It's five hours straight without any disconnection !!!!!! It is true that the connection is slower because of GSM, but it is steady and reliable!
My next step will be to change this last parameter for WCDMA Only and just see what happens
Sorry about my English, hope you can understand!

+1. Had freq. dropouts when on 2.09 radio, 2.10 caused the entire radio to dropout and 2.11 was fairly stable but still freq. dropout. 2.14 was been the most stable radio for me so far, only 2-3 dropouts max per day.
Of course, the early radio dropouts could've been caused by the older buggy ril wrapper library, so I might revert back just to experiment around a bit more.
Using Mdeejay Evo Sense 2.4.2 I Managed to resolve my data drops... at least in the last 24 hours.
I still haven't gotten one freeze on any of the 3 phones I'm testing since I did this. maybe I'm lucky...

Ok. Just to give a feed back...
With GSM only, no drops at all!!!!
When I changed to WCDMA only, overall it's more stable than before, but I had a few drops last night and this mornig...
So, for me, I'm switching back to GSM only. I do prefer a more slower connection but with no drops !!!
I'm using 2.14 radio, with FroyoStoneSense v3.1 (Darkstone) !
Hello people,
I'm new to the hd2. I'm running chuckyrom lite with shubcraft 2.0 with hastarin's 8.2 kernel and I THINK my radio is 2.15.50.14... But I'm not sure. (how do I check?)
I lose my data connection every minute or so, pretty much crippling the usage of this device.
So far my searching has turned up methods that don't work (toggling airplane mode, etc)
Is there a more stable build I can be using? Or anyway I can reduce the connection drops?
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I also have a similar problem. I have a completely stock WinMobile HD2 with the latest 2.15.50.14 also and I'm running DarkStone v3. This is my first Android ROM on the HD2. I've had it for about a week now.
I've ran my N1 for about a year now. I still have it and I'm just playing with the HD2 for now. I get the same drops as you where my service will just stop. A lot of the time my phone still show's full bars for reception. I think I'll set CM settings to give me a readout instead of the bars to see when I loose signal.
Very often when I do YouTube, or enter the Market, or the browser it will lag and get no connection for 30 seconds or more sometimes. Then start working, and occasionally I have to toggle Airplane Mode. But I'd love to be able to get a smooth and stable use out of it.

it drains battery a bit though?
battery drain is already bad enough tho
All - Am at the verge of giving up on android today. Went out on a little trip today and was depending completely on google maps for navigation. Had the following issues:
1) GPS locking took too long despite having the phone exposed to clear skies
2) Data connection getting disrupted abruptly - I need to reboot the phone / or switch in and out of the airplane mode to get the connection going again
3) Experiencing data corruption / missing files on the data card! I lost almost all of the 30+ pics I took today. There are some random files showing up in LOST.DIR - I'm going to try recovering data from it if possible?
Any thoughts, hints and leads would be very useful - going back to winmo 6.5 is like jumping from the frying pan into the fire .
I'm running the darkstone froyo build on the 3.14 stock ROM - did not install HSPL.
I'll be pulling an all nighter to search thru the forums today - in the interim, any help would be much appreciated.
thanks.
this may be obvious but: try other builds, radios, etc.
1. Several fixes available. Run QuickGPS in WinMo about once every week before you boot into Android, lock time should improve drastically. Search for gps.conf and libgps on this forum, they can be tweaked too if QuickGPS doesn't to the trick.
2. Check if you can convert your build, which is probably PPP, to RMNET. RMNET is slower, but more stable, it shouldn't have any data drops. There are fixes for PPP too, but none of them are 100% reliable already. Change to an RMNET build if yours cannot be converted (easily).
3. No idea, never heard of this before. Might be a corruption on your sd card too, try reformatting it.
From the very first day I got my hand on my HD2, I decided to go cLK. I liked the cleaner interface, and the no go-go-go of Magldr. Ok. Lemme list out the reasons I liked cLK:
Instant start into booting of ROM without the initial linux type screen
Saving a second or so of boot time by bypassing that screen
Support for ROM manager, and being able to directly boot into recovery with the phone on
Charging while phone off feature
So I stayed with cLK for months and months, while I experienced the one drawback of the software - it uses PPP for 3G data versus Rmnet for Magldr. I have used every single ROM flavor out there with cLK - CM builds, Pyramid, MIUI, Runny, Sense.. With every rom I would get data drop outs at least 12 times a day. I'm not kidding. If I let the phone sleep for an hour and wake it up, the data connection would be gone. I would have to retoggle the data connection to "wake" up the connection. Once reconnected, it would work fine, but it would die again. This happened whether I had one bar of signal, or 5.
I had read that PPP is less stable. So finally in frustration I decided to give Magldr a go. Same phone. Same rom. Same town. I have not had ONE data drop out since I went to Magldr. Its ridiculous how stable it is.
That, ladies and gentlemen, is pretty much the winning argument for me. For my phone, there is no freakin way I'm going back to cLK.
Wow. I think you may be on to something.
i have used magldr from beginning, i've never had data problems till now. sometimes i think to pass to clk. but after your information i've abandoned this idea thanks
I've tried MAGLDR the moment it came out. Stayed with it for about 3 months [about two months androiding, and one month WP7].
But after that, I went over to cLK .. and it's been over 8 months and I'm liking it. I barely use data connection (I'm usually on WiFi @ home) and when outside I use data for a few hours or so, maybe that's why it wasn't disconnecting for me (I've never had a drop, not even once).
I'd say the following:
Only use MAGLDR if you:
*Use Windows Phone.
*Use Data connection a lot, I MEAN REALLY MUCH !
CLK here since begining (6 months ago). No problem with data connection at all!
Probably it is operator dependent ( Bulgaria/ M-tel )

That might very well be true. Here in the US on T-Mobile.
Like I said, with the same phone, same ROM and same town I have had zero problems with Mag. And I use my data a lot. Not for streaming video or anything like that. But a lot of email, web browsing, weather apps, etc. Most of which need the data connection to stay active with the phone sleeping.
This thread makes me sad. I need the features of cLK (charge while off, reboot to recovery) but the data drops are pretty annoying. I've been running cLK so long now I forgot data drops arent the norm, and this thread has brought it all back!
...But I'm still not gonna switch

Hahahahaha.. this makes me laugh!! I had the exact same attitude. I was never gonna switch! But I remember the moment of epiphany clearly. I was driving. I was expecting an important email. I turned on the phone. There it was - a dead data connection. So I had to do the data on/off toggle, and my email came in. 20 minutes late. I thought that's it. I've had it with this stupid PPP crap. Time to make a change.
Come on over! The water is mighty fine.
my guess is it operator dependent, since my carrier uses all ip network (3g hspa+) i have no such issue
IF CLK is setup properly and has the correct libs and the wrapper file, with a correctly modded build.prop file I find it to be really stable. I suggest trying sbryan12144's rom Sensation with CLK. Thanks for the tip! As some have pointed out, it might also be operator dependent. T-Mobile might just suck in the US! I find it hard to believe though that one of the six or seven different rom flavors I tried out wouldn't do a good cLK implementation.
Still, this is good to keep in mind.
I am using ACA rom cLK version, and I've never had data drops.
Maybe it is because I am using Juice Defender, which I let manage my data on/off, so that might be something to help you guys.
Really, no data drops, never.
maybe all clk users should have Data Connections Checker installed. it constantly makes sure that cell data is active even when the device is sleeping. if data gets dropped it does an auto toggle to bring it up

But wouldn't an app like this that's always running cause more battery drain? It might be negligible. But that's the first thing that comes to mind. Its hard enough already to go an entire day with my phone.
great info
Thats interesting, any other downparts with CLK?
I started almost a year ago with MAGLDR and never had any major issue. I found annoying sometimes that my phone couldn't charge while off but no big deal, you just get chargers everywhere.
I switched to cLK as a recommendation from the devs of HyperDroid 3.0 and I was also curious to try it from reading it. I've had data drops from day one and on, switched roms hoping that one would magically work better (thanks to updated ril wrapper and such) but no dice. I still would get a dozen of drops a day...
I have reverted back to MAGLDR and had no problem since
I wish we could have RMNET on cLK, that would be cool but until then I'll stick to MAGLDR
too be honest ive never had data drops with clk.....maybe weird.
i do love magdlr though, but clk makes it feel a little more native when loading. by passing the linux screen and all
Ive been using clk since it's release and I have not experienced ANY problems with data
works perfectly for me
I'm the opposite. I used magldr before clk was released. I hated magldr. Its clunky to me. I've never noticed data drops with clk. Sometimes I've had data problems with certain roms but nothing I can blame on clk. As for the connection types, ppp is more stable on the ics builds.
CLK 1.5 supports rmnet and ppp so even if your right about data drops it should no longer be an issue.
For nand android clk is the clear option.
For windows or dual booting magldr is what you need.
