Something interesting I noticed. - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Forgive me if this has been discussed already but I haven't really found anything relating to it when I did a search.
I had started my wifi router when I was using my winmo, then I booted to android. I was at work and my friend noticed that my winmo wifi network was showing up on his phone even though I had been in android for the entire morning. He could even connect.
I had been having freezing problems and high battery drain problems so I thought maybe this could be something that is causing the problems. So as of right now I disable all my wireless communications within winmo before I start my android and things actually seem to run better. I don't know if this is just a fluke or what but I will know more in the morning, as my android almost never fails to freeze when I leave it in standby overnight.
What are your thoughts? Is this common practice to disable these things or is this something new?
Thanks.

Forgot to say I am using Kumars premium 2.10 ROM I think? and Froyostone sense V2.

maybe disabling connections in winmo helps with heavy battery drain, but i can't imagine that it helps with freezes, since they seem to be related to the g-sensor.
or do you have freezes that require a reboot?!

I still have freezes occasionally even with the G-sensor disabled with g-script. I get the SOD with NO button lights.

what radio rom do you have? some people report that another radio rom fixed the sod's.

I disable my WiFi in Windows Mobile first.
You may be interested that I found a post suggesting the use of an app called "Lite Setting Profiles" to disable the WiFi when your screen turns off. This, along with having the G-Sensor disabled (SetCPU and Autokiller running as described in various places), seems to have solved my freezes and SoD.
In fact I'm currently testing with my G-Sensor enabled again to see if I can get away with it running as well.

Now that I think about it, yes, I do also see the WinMo version along side Andriod.
But... Even when I was just on WinMo by itself, I would see the Wifi in my laptop's list, even if I had WiFi on the phone turned off. I couldn't connect, but it always did show, so I've been used to it and haven't thought of it once I tried out Android.

I have 2.10.50 radio
Still getting SOD in fact it's getting really bad now. If my screen sleeps for more than 5 minutes I get the SOD.

Here is my 2 cents on your wifi router story.
I doubt that wifi was still running on your windows ROM as windows is killed when android starts.
What I've noticed in the past is when I connect to the wifi router on my phone using my laptop, it remembers the connection for later. In fact, I've had times when my phone is off and my laptop still shows the phone router as available. I haven't tried connecting to it when its not actually available but my guess is that in your friend's case, he would not have been able to browse. His phone probably just showed as connected to your wifi router but did he try browsing something using that connection?

No he killed the connection before he tried to browse anything. My question is though how is the wifi router signal even being seen, i killed windows at home and when I got to work he saw it. That's my main question.
Also I changed my radio to 2.12
maybe that will help some.

I had SOD with almost every build till I switched to the 2.12 radio and have not had one SOD since then.

I hope that's the case with mine. So far so good, but if im using it regularly it never seemed to SOD, but if i left it overnight it always SOD without fail.

I had an odd thing happen as well. I had some wifi connection issues in Android and rebooted and turned wifi on in WM and then booted android. Once android was up I had a slow blinking Green LED..which I never get any LED lights on in Android.

Palringo Connection Stability Issue

Hello all,
Recently started encountering a strange problem four days ago with Palringo on my HTC HD2, UK T-Mobile.
I am having strouble staying connected to Palringo via G/3G/HSDPA on this handset despite having a rock solid connection beforehand. When connected up to my PC or a works PC (where it uses the PC's internet connection) I am faced with this same disconnecting issue.
I tried various troubleshooting ideas before resetting my phone to factory defaults, installing only Palringo and connecting up that way but to no avail. The connection to Palringo was still dropping despite my phones internet connection being totally stable.
YouTube, websurfing and other online activities do not seem to be affected, only Palringo.
I cannot detect any sort of pattern to the disconnects as they seem to appear frequently, whether I have the handset active constantly, lock the screen or keep Palringo's window at the front. It seems to be more prevailant when I lock the screen and come back 10-20 seconds later but this is not always the case.
Palringo servers seem to be okay too or at least reporting no faults on their forum. Am I looking at an awkward and complex problem?
At my wits end right now with it. Not sure where to turn to next for a solution.
HTC HD2
T-Mobile UK
ROM: 1.48 Unbranded
My phone has currently just been hard reset and has Palringo installed. No other programs, tweaks or fixes have been installed.
Palringo 2.3.0 svn-33287 (Premium User)

yes, the reconnect pending issue, i remember...
i don't know which if not all the following solved the problem for me:
- i use palringo beta
- i use radio 2.10 but i also remember it working with some other versions as well
- i use artemis roms
oh, your rom is so old... u sould at least try to upgrade to stock 1.66

I do not have a 'reconnect pending' issue. Palringo connects, logs me in and then disconnects... it then reconnects without any problems and the cycle repeats endlessly.

You inadvertently might have helped.
I flashed the 1.66 official non-branded ROM and Palringo seems to be okay. Will have to wait until tomorrow to give it it's proper test but preliminary results seem positive.

I had no issues for months (as mentioned in my first post) then suddenly it gave me hassle.
Flashed up to an unbranded 1.66 ROM and the problem seems to be solved. No idea why the issue started.
Tested it this morning whilst travelling to and from an appointment, flashing the ROM to 1.66 has not helped.
Does anyone else have any suggestions?
a new radio perhaps...
you must have 2.07.51.22_2 now but you could also try 2.09.51.03 or 2.10.50.19_2

Not a big fan of having to change the radio though. Any other reason why I would have such problems with just 1 single program?
Bump - This issue is giving me a headache.
sorry I can't help you, because I have a similar problem. Palringo stays connected even thought reconnects all the time. When leaving a conversation open and not writing for an hour, it's full of status update (disconnected -> logged in).
But the thing that really really annoys me is how much it drains my battery. Having Palringo running (power saving mode is a joke, it changes nothing!) drains my battery 100% faster. While my phone lasts 2 days, with palringo it lasts a day. That's the main reason I'm not letting palringo run all the time anymore.

Strange issue isn't it? Palringo forums are like pulling teeth and I can't go back to Beejive.
Re: your battery drain, I don't have it really. I play music for ~2 hours per day and have Palringo on + connected (when it connected and stayed connected) for ~8-10 hours and still end up with battery. That includes use of Palringo throughout the day though heavy use would drain the battery much quicker.

I found someone on the Palringo website with the sameissue.
To resolve it, it seems they just created a new Palringo account and it worked fine after that. As a Premium User, I am very hesitant to do such a thing but it might work for you!

[SOLUTION] Data Freezes with mattc EvoLeo v1.0.1 + michyprima r1 Kernel[10.05.2010]

Was getting several data freezes every day (5 to 7 every day). I installed a free app from the Android Market called DATA ON DEMAND which is supposed to switch your data from 3G to 2G in order to conserve battery when phone is idle in sleep mode (screen off). This app did not work on my device. It would kill the data completely after phone was put to sleep and data nor voice would restore unless the phone was restarted. Needless to say, I uninstalled the app and rebooted my phone and strangely, my phone has not dropped data even ONCE in 5 DAYS. I have tested this on 3 other HD2's and all followed the same pattern. I have only tested them for the last 3 days though. My exact setup as far as OS's is:
Windows Mobile Rom: Omega v14 WWE XT CHT
Radio: 2.14.50.04
Android Rom: mattcevoleo1.0.1
Kernel: [email protected] (r1)
Please post if this works for you if you decide to try it. I am curious. That was probably the only real downside to my daily HD2/Android usage.
When you say data freeze, do you mean the issue with the up data arrow getting stuck?.
my build too i am using mattc 1.8 with sense and when data is on the arrow stops and i lose data happen to me 5 time a day

Same here, I've also noticed the phone uses a lot more battery power when the data connection is on. Maybe its linked?
Thanks to the OP for the possible solution.

yes, that is what I am refering to. sometimes both arrows would get stuck.
Since updating to hastrian 7.1 I don't see any improvements to my battery life and data like everyone is taking about is still a problem, if some one could correct this it would be three best setup ever
It not solve my data connexion problem, i have installed the apps, set it to AUTO, reboot, delete the apps, and now everything is same than before i install the apps... nothing better...
using the Mdeejay eVo Sense v. 1.0 Warm|3.29.651.5|[kernel: hastarin R7.1] release with the libhtc_ril_wrapper.zip updated (9/28)
Ill try this on my 1.8 and my evo 1.0.1, will report back

I concur. Thats why I was wondering how long had he used that set up before downloading the app. I have almost the same exact set up and my data connectivity has been excellent (this is without downloading that app)
I can confirm this has worked for me, after updating my kernel to hastarin 7.1
i started having data disconnections, then this came along
thanks for sharing
My attempt ...
Until now, any build that uses PPP would not work without at least one flaw in the data connection every half hour or less... Terrible...
I then decided to try a combination of the tips that I've been reading in the forum.
First, I edited the build.prop in system folder and changed the last two lines in the file, the primary and secondary DSN. I used Namebench, a free program to find the indication of which DNSuse for my region (I live in northern Brazil). I run the Namebench on my laptop and copied the two recommended DNS addresses.
Then followed another tip, and using the *#*#4636#*#*, changed the network configuration for GSM auto.
And finally, in the phone settings, I changed from GSM/WCDMA auto to GSM only...
It's five hours straight without any disconnection !!!!!! It is true that the connection is slower because of GSM, but it is steady and reliable!
My next step will be to change this last parameter for WCDMA Only and just see what happens
Sorry about my English, hope you can understand!

+1. Had freq. dropouts when on 2.09 radio, 2.10 caused the entire radio to dropout and 2.11 was fairly stable but still freq. dropout. 2.14 was been the most stable radio for me so far, only 2-3 dropouts max per day.
Of course, the early radio dropouts could've been caused by the older buggy ril wrapper library, so I might revert back just to experiment around a bit more.
Using Mdeejay Evo Sense 2.4.2 I Managed to resolve my data drops... at least in the last 24 hours.
I still haven't gotten one freeze on any of the 3 phones I'm testing since I did this. maybe I'm lucky...

With GSM only, no drops at all!!!!
When I changed to WCDMA only, overall it's more stable than before, but I had a few drops last night and this mornig...
So, for me, I'm switching back to GSM only. I do prefer a more slower connection but with no drops !!!
I'm using 2.14 radio, with FroyoStoneSense v3.1 (Darkstone) !

Best way to reduce data connection drops?

Hello people,
I'm new to the hd2. I'm running chuckyrom lite with shubcraft 2.0 with hastarin's 8.2 kernel and I THINK my radio is 2.15.50.14... But I'm not sure. (how do I check?)
I lose my data connection every minute or so, pretty much crippling the usage of this device.
So far my searching has turned up methods that don't work (toggling airplane mode, etc)
Is there a more stable build I can be using? Or anyway I can reduce the connection drops?
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I also have a similar problem. I have a completely stock WinMobile HD2 with the latest 2.15.50.14 also and I'm running DarkStone v3. This is my first Android ROM on the HD2. I've had it for about a week now.
I've ran my N1 for about a year now. I still have it and I'm just playing with the HD2 for now. I get the same drops as you where my service will just stop. A lot of the time my phone still show's full bars for reception. I think I'll set CM settings to give me a readout instead of the bars to see when I loose signal.
Very often when I do YouTube, or enter the Market, or the browser it will lag and get no connection for 30 seconds or more sometimes. Then start working, and occasionally I have to toggle Airplane Mode. But I'd love to be able to get a smooth and stable use out of it.

58mAh battery drain on Gingerbread

Hi Guys,
I have been using gingerbread build's for some time. I notice battery drain sometimes battery drain suddenly spikes to 58mAh for sometime (without Wifi or BT)..for around 10-15mins and then comes back to normal after 10-20mins(<10mAh). I experienced this issue first in MDJ Cm7 2.6 build..I thought that time must be build specific..so I switched to Desire HD build which was free of this issue...however I don't like sense anymore, so moved back to typhoon's CM7 build. But again I encountered the same issue. I changed the kernel to gauner's kernel, since the desire HD build I was using was using this kernel and free of the issue, but again it surfaced back.
Now I switched to pongster's hyperdroid build. This build has a very low power drain...most of the time its < 4mah on this build...Also I haven't installed any widgets (except for current widget) and have still the stock ADW launcher (to rule out the possibility of this bug caused by any s/w)...but again the drain jumped to 58mAh .Is it just me or other gingerbread users face this drain also randomly. could it be due to SD card, I am using ext4 data partition.

Hmmm ok...I don't think its an install issue..i always do a task 29 before switching builds from different devs..and follow the CWM settings as recommended by the dev....rest the builds are running so smoothly especially pongsters without any FC's or such...
BTW why are using AT&T...t-mob is cheaper and faster(3g)
It happens to me too sometimes. What I do is disable wifi and gps wait two minutes and battery drain on standby becames 5mA again. When I enable both again, it stays on 5mA. Don't know what's causing it, but I have it too.
I have this Problem if I use Livewallpapers.
Now i use normal Wallpapers and it is gone.
edit: 5-8 mA with normal Wallpaper
Well for me, it turned out to be the sync indeed as XsceneXhippieX mentioned.
I turned off all sync just for the heck of it and the problem hasn't come back for last 2 days...I enabled Background Sync (not auto sync) and problem resurfaced within few hours...so i'm pretty sure..Its the sync which is causing this Guess I need to go back to Sense ROM now...
And BTW i'm not using live wallpapers..
Also one more interesting fact...phone conusmes more battery on 2G networks than on 3G. I forced to phone to use 2G network and idle power drain was >5mAh all the time...while on 3g its 2-5mAh mostly...
58 mah on Ginger is usually the GPS. Turn it on then off again, somehow if you use it or any app use it, even if the app closes the GPS chip doesnt turn off.
Just turn it off using the widget or in settings.
If that doesnt fix it, make sure Bluetooth is off. it consumes 58-59 mah, even if it is not connected, its a known issue on Ginger. Bluetooth never goes to sleep, gotta turn it off manually.
Hope it helps!.

Thanks for the help, but I'm sure its due to sync...I turned off the sync and for last 3 days there hasn't been a single occurrence of 60mAh drain.
gonna try turning off sync cause ive been having this issue.
just tried second gingerbread rom and it began immediately,
and this is with data, wifi, bt, gps all off.
hopefully sync does it
turning background data off didnt help.. still getting 70 to 80 drain.
and playing music in standby had me up to 110 which is higher than usual too

its a spike, other weird thing is since i got on gingerbread, currentwidget has sucked at getting a continuous read. it has big gaps in the log.

Yes currentwidget don't give a continuous read for me too...but its the same behavior in froyo based sense build also...
Anyway, are you using any widgets installed which sync? Disable them and see, though i'll advice to disable all widgets (not only ones which sync) and see
score mobile and stock weather i have. but if i turned off background data and autosync they shouldnt be able to do anything i thought?
il give it a try
and currentwidget always did minute by minute for me in froyo. on sense at least i cant remember the last time i used a stock build

Well I had fancy widget installed in which I had set weather to be updated always (irrespective of background data option) once a day and only on Wi-Fi..yet it still caused 58mAh drain....try disabling them for a while and see...
just deleted score mobile and deactivated weather.
after a few minutes turned it on. 85ma...
You can change the kernel to see if it helps...try Gauner's or RAFPIGNA
or better switch to froyo build...i'm switching myself..there's not much use to smartphone if you turn off syncs anyway
yeah i guess back to froyo. whats the best stock one? def dont want sense anymore.
and has anyone made an app or something to do the awesome shutoff animation from 2.3?

Any UK DZ users running CM7?

Are there any UK Desire Z owners out there who are successfully running Cyanogenmod 7? I'm running v7.0.3 and it keeps rebooting spontaneously.
???
I have ran CM7 with no problems other as an issue (actually a "feature") with wifi not working with the screen off,
You could try nightlys if you are set on CM7, in fact I think there is a new stable version coming out soon.
Do you overclock?
I have the Canadian version and in the US (if that helps) and have ran Cyanogen 7.0.3, 7.1.0 RC1 and all the nightlies without reboots..
You should try re-downloading and re-flashing to see if that fixes your problem.
I'm currently trying Virtuous G-Lite to see if it helps. So far so good after 7 hours (i.e. no reboots).
I've also noticed that I can now get access to data roaming services (I'm away in Portugal). With CM7 I was unable to access the local GPRS service. Does this maybe suggest a compatibility issue between CM7 any my radio?
May I ask which radio version you are running bombadier?

Aye 04.12 its the latest i think, its in my sig .30 seems to be a good un, try unity its a cool sense rom if u are into that sort of thing,
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
I've been using MIUI for the last 2 days, and Virtuous G-Lite for a day before that, and have had no recurrence of the rebooting problems that I had with CM7. I guess there was a compatibility problem with CM7 and the DZ

Menu > Settings > Wireless & Networks > Wi-Fi Settings > Menu > Advanced > Wi-Fi sleep policy > "Never".
Fixed!

You probably just had a bad flash. There are thousands of people in the UK using CM7 on their DZ

Sure you don't have any other settings that would contradict that? That's the only system wide setting to make Wi-Fi stay on when the screen is off. Are you using a different kernel than stock by chance?

Interesting. Seen some complaints in the Nightly thread but I personally have never had the issue.
Definitely not kernel/setting related, a fresh flash of any flavour of CM 7,broken out of the box, which is a shame as I really like it.
When you say you have never had the issue,is that because you have never tried to stream anything with the screen off ?or that that wifi sleep policy actually works?

My Wi-Fi sleep policy works fine. My battery status page shows my Wi-Fi is on 100% of the time, even when the phone isn't awake and the screen is off.

Yeah but does it actually stay on? A good way to test is to try streaming internet radio,I am still connected but after a couple of minutes playback becomes choppy, phone still claims to be connected.

Ok then I am at a lose to explain this then, could you run a logcat when you are streaming and send it to me? Would like to see how your output differs to mine.
Downclocking.

The Fact That The Radio Continues To Play Means You're Still Connected.
The "Choppiness" Will Be Due To The CPU Down-clocking While The Screen Is Off.
I'm A UK User Running CM7 And All Is Well. WiFi Sleep Policy Is Set To Never And I Always Receive E-Mail Notifications On My Phone Before My PC Notices So It Does Work! I'm Running One Of The Newest Nightly Builds.
Try Running SetCPU And Setting Up A Screen Off Profile To Up The Clock-speed Above Standard As It Goes Very Low When The Screen Is Off.
This Will Impact Your Battery Life But If You Find The Minimum Frequency Required To Eliminate The Choppy Playback You Can Live With It.

Just to clarify my problem once more, doing anything over wifi with screen on is fine, streaming, uploading to dropbox, etc but after a couple of minutes with the screen off my transfer rate crashes, the wifi is going onto a power save as I am still connected(wifi connected icon still there), CM7 is the only ROM that I have this problem with,I use Unity and with screen off there are no problems, dont see how underclocking affects this as on Unity my screen off clock is 245Mz. I know you use the example of email notification, have you tried uploading files with screen off or streaming?
If that works then could you please send me a copy of your logcat to compare to my output?
I tried it no problems. But i prefer htc sense with android 2.2.
If ive was to choose a different rom apart from sense stock roms then it has to be miui.
Its fast and ui is superb.
